    traders: who does your taxes?

    Posted: 25 Feb 2018 04:14 PM PST

i'm in and out of like 200 stocks over the course of the year, because of this, my accountant charges me a fortune -- he also raises his price $100 every year and i'm thinking it's time to dump this guy.

i don't know if i should trust H&R Block or a place like that, and I'm def not confident enough to do it all on my own with turbo tax or something.

    what do you guys do?

    UPS Dip

    Posted: 26 Feb 2018 06:05 AM PST

I'm considering buying the dip, do your DD and tell me what you think. Here are my thoughts:

A correction was definitely expected after amazon announced their plans for last-mile delivery. But, from what I found, Amazon deliveries make up between 5-10 percent of UPS revenues. Therefore, the 25 percent drop in UPS since mid January seems a bit harsh.

With e-commerce on the rise, there will continue be a growing demand for logistic companies.

Also, UPS has been making great strides towards electrifying their fleet. They just announced they will be partnering with Workhorse Group, and sampling 50 electric vans. Tesla has also announced that they will be partnering with UPS to provide them with electric semi trucks. With electric vehicles becoming the cheaper alternative to gas and diesel, these partnerships could be the beginning of something great, and really improve UPS's bottom line.

I'm curious to see how Amazon goes about obtaining an electric fleet. Workhorse is a small company, and will have their hands full with the UPS partnership. I cannot imagine Elon partnering with Bezos, but that's just a gut feeling, and would love to hear everyone's thoughts on that.

Will UPS continue to dip? Or is it ready to pop? Let me know what you guys think.

Edit: I have positions in workhorse group and Tesla. I also decided to buy UPS earlier today.

    Stock Valuation Methods

    Posted: 26 Feb 2018 05:42 AM PST

I am a current Undergraduate University student, studying finance (along with accounting). Having learnt the various methods used to calculate the value of stocks I thought I would create an article talking about the different types of methods, one of the reason's I chose to write this article was because I don't see many people talk about how they value a stock, so I thought I would delve into myself.

    Link to the article

If there is anything wrong or you have a critique of something in the article please feel free to let me know! I'm still learning more and more each passing day, Also what methods/ways do you guys value a stock?

Was the last crash engineered to within a prediction of 0.03%? Bank of America Merrill Lynch predicted the peak and correction point of the last market crash within 0.03%

    Posted: 26 Feb 2018 01:37 PM PST

I found this crazy that Bank of America Merrill Lynch predicted "capitulation" for the bull market in 2018, with the S&P 500 peaking at 2,863. This was made back in November of 2017. It turns out that the correction would happen within 0.03% of their top and bottom call 3 months later. The top was called within 0.03% of the actual top and the predication of hitting the 200 day average for the bottom was within 0.01%.

If that does not sound like a engineered correction how could they predict it so accurately? Has there ever been a correction documented and carried out with that type of accuracy before?

Bank of America Merrill Lynch top: 2863

Actual top of S&P before correction: 2872

    Difference ~0.03%

Bank of America Merrill Lynch bottom: 2535 (200 day moving average)

Actual bottom of S&P before correction: 2532.69

    Difference ~0.01%

Article posted about the BOA indicator.

    $ROBT - New A.I. & Robotics ETF

    Posted: 25 Feb 2018 08:06 PM PST

I feel very optimistic about A.I.'s future and it seems like this new $ROBT ETF has exposure to the industry that $BOTZ just doesn't. One thing that worries me about $ROBT is that 68% of its holdings are in I.T. (I am willing to overlook the risk considering I.T.'s future looks bright). $BOTZ has gotten me fat returns cough NVDA cough and I plan on holding it for a while. Planning to hold a 50/50 position between $BOTZ and $ROBT which will add up to about 15% of my portfolio. (Risk tolerance: Medium-high) Thoughts?

    Expense Ratios $BOTZ - 0.68% $ROBT - 0.65%

Disclaimer: Currently hold a position in $BOTZ

    My two cents on $NTLA $EDIT $CRSP

    Posted: 26 Feb 2018 01:24 PM PST

    • Biotech startups
    • Their stock prices are soaring recently
    • They are based on the same technology: CRISPR-Cas9 for genome editing.
    • Two of the three can be tied to the scientists who pioneered the technology. It is believed that in the next 5-10 years, a Nobel Prize will be accredited to this technology.
    • The technology has huge potentials (from treating genetic diseases to stop human aging making human immortal). But don't expect to see any big products or application anytime soon.

tldr: buy and hold for long.

    FIT Q4 today after close

    Posted: 26 Feb 2018 06:51 AM PST

I don't know what's going to happen with FIT today after close, but I still like them long at the current price. Curious of others thoughts.

Reason I like them is everyone compares them to GoPro - "one hit wonder" "fad product" etc... but honestly how many people do you know who really have a use for an "action cam" (especially considering the quality of video you can get from a cell phone you're already carrying)?

Now how many people have use for some type of biometric tracking? Maybe you'd say not many, but I can envision a world where nearly everyone benefits from it. What's more important than your health? For me it mostly comes from a notion that wearable tech could end up do things for us that we can't even envision now. It starts with fitness freaks, and there was a bubble of wearable sales to them a couple years ago. But FIT continues to dump a ton into R&D, I see patents filed and issued every month, and personally think we're just scratching the surface with heart rate, sleep tracking, and glucose monitoring.

That said, I don't think Q4 '17 tells us much about that long term potential aside from how financially healthy they are to survive through the next few years while working toward these future breakthroughs.

Safest stocks to invest in - besides the obvious

    Posted: 25 Feb 2018 06:50 PM PST

So for the past couple of years, I've been mostly investing and trading penny stocks. I'm looking to get into the more expensive stocks right now.

I'm looking to invest about $200 every week / paycheck.

What are some of the safer stocks to invest in that will grow slower over time - besides the obvious ones like Apple, Microsoft, and Facebook?

    Thanks in advance.

Buying a holding vs buying firm

    Posted: 26 Feb 2018 08:55 AM PST

Hey guys, what would be the main advantage of buying a holding company instead of the firm itself? For example: Liberty TripAdvisor vs TripAdvisor. I guess price differences are important and leverage also comes in play, but are there any other main differences?

Best way to determine what ETF to buy?

    Posted: 26 Feb 2018 09:35 AM PST

First of all, I understand that we never know what will happen in the future with any stock!

Now since that's out of the way. Is there any way to determine the chances of an ETF's future growth? Can you base this off past performance for a good estimate? I'm specifically talking about something like SPY, SPYG, SPYV, SPYD, SPYX.

In short, I'm trying to determine the best one of these to buy. I wanted to create a small table comparing these with calculating projected growth and dividend.

    Geely (GELYF/GELYY)

    Posted: 26 Feb 2018 07:51 AM PST

Up 7% today on the news of the Mercedes Benz purchase. So they now own half of Lotus, All of Volvo, 10% of Mercedes Benz, London Black Cab and others

I think the reason I push Geely so much to investors (not short term traders) is because of the push the Chinese government has for gas vehicles to be off the road by 2025. The Chinese are finally starting to realize they need to adapt to their environment more and I have a hard time believing Geely WON'T be front and center in that evolution for China

I do alot of day trading and mid term holds so I'm not sure how good this investment was. I've made a bit of money, but realistically

How much would this stock go up in a year? I feel like I could put this money elsewhere

    Opening a position in $JD

    Posted: 25 Feb 2018 06:47 PM PST

I've been following my watch list of stocks pretty closely for a while now without buying and I'm most close to opening a position in JD.com. The e-commerce sector in China is really intriguing right now.

$JD is scheduled for an earnings report this week. They've had tremendous growth over the last year but have still yet to post a positive net income... Which usually causes a sell off after their ER.

I'm looking to go long with 200 or so shares so entry point really isn't a huge deal here... Just wanted to get some opinions. I'm thinking of waiting until ER but sure would hate for this to be the one where they go green. Could be a missed boat in the making!
