Pro Tip: Improve your mood by turning your phone or computer to grayscale so you can't see the red. Posted: 06 Feb 2018 05:48 AM PST I've found that in times like these it helps a lot to stay on top of your emotions, particularly depression from thinking about all of the money you've lost. All of the monitoring apps riddled with red is a big trigger for this. I've noticed a significant improvement in my mood towards the downturn from simply turning my devices to grayscale. It also wards off the urge to give up and sell everything. Almost any device can be set to grayscale, typically through the accessibility options. I recommend trying it out for a few days, if it really annoys you, then turn it back. This also makes devices less addictive, now that they are lacking all of the pretty colors. It can help take your phone off of your mind, keeping your eyes on the screen less, which I'm sure most of us would benefit from. [link] [comments] |

If you were looking into BRK.B Posted: 06 Feb 2018 10:39 AM PST Now is the time to get in. Oversold Wells Fargo news, buffet age fears, recent volatility. BRK has a 10% stake in WF but that only represents .037% of their assets. They have more, diversified, financials in BAC, GS, BK, SYF, USB and V, MC, AXP which we all love. They have some consumer defensive holdings WMT, COST, KO and airlines which are on the up. And that's without mentioning their operating subsidiaries. And the biggest thing for me is they are sitting on $100B in cash. If anyone can make money in a downturn, it's BRK. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 05 Feb 2018 10:42 PM PST Its crazy how when times are fine I hear people say "I'm not going to time the market because i know i cant." yet today as a read through Reditt, I see a lot of "I'm going to wait for this thing to bottom out" or "im waiting for the dust to settle"... People you can't predict when the declines will stop, it is very challenging even for people in the industry. Instead continue to dollar cost average, take 10% of your paycheck and invest every month. Be happy that prices are down around 7.00%, if they go even lower, so be it. Trying to time the bottom of the market is just as, if not more difficult then trying to time the top. [link] [comments] |
What happened at 11:20-11:30AM this morning? Posted: 06 Feb 2018 11:40 AM PST There's a single, massive spike in volume in that time frame that occurred in pretty much every equity that I've been looking at today. What happened? For example: BAC @11:22, AMD @11:26, SPY @11:22, BA @11:22; all show enormous spikes in volume in their respective timeframes. [link] [comments] |
Looking forwards America massive structural investment... $CAT or $AMT... or... Posted: 06 Feb 2018 09:52 AM PST So... $SHOP stumbled on the Stoploss. I thought about buying it again expecting prices to skyrocket on the 15th after earnings report. But than I thought again and wonder if it's better to invest on something more "solid". So after listening to the news about Trump 1.5t structure investment I am seriously considering buying or $CAT or $AMT. Any thoughts that could help make out my mind? [link] [comments] |
Posted: 06 Feb 2018 09:28 AM PST Amd and Intel had a great q4 ER. I'm assuming nvda will too. How do you think the market will react to nvda er with the current sell off? ER is Feb 8th. [link] [comments] |
TD Ameritrade DOWN on Market Open Posted: 06 Feb 2018 07:11 AM PST Cant log in my TD ameritrade? Anyone else having this issue? [link] [comments] |
Posted: 06 Feb 2018 12:48 PM PST If you trade with ameritrade I'd def recommend giving them a call to inquire about some free trades in exchange for the service outage .. they should be happy to accommodate :) -source: am ameritrade user and called ameritrade to inquire about some free trades in exchange for service outage [link] [comments] |
Anyone having problems placing trades? Posted: 06 Feb 2018 06:38 AM PST I am on Fidelity and it must be overwhelmed because I can't even see my balance. Are you having problems trading? edit: it appears to be completely broken now. [link] [comments] |
Welp, went all in on the dip, maxed out margin today. Its either profit or margin call! Posted: 06 Feb 2018 12:23 PM PST Invested $5300 a month ago, today I used $5300 on margin and went all in for total amount invested $10,600. Last night I made a post saying I was going to sell it all because the futures being down a grand scared me. But I slept on it and came to the conclusion that all my investing years I have always played it too conservative and played not to lose instead of playing to win and always sold at the hint of trouble, I realized I never made money doing this and simply went the opposite route and bought more! So I pulled a 180, slid all my chips to the center of the table and used my full margin to buy in today and did some dollar cost averaging on stocks I bought a month ago. Dont worry, I bought solid, blue chip companies, some with good dividends to offset the margin interest . My portfolio now consists of NFLX, AMZN, GOOGL, FB, PYPL, NVDA, MSFT, INTC and AAPL. All tech baby! I told myself that I am doing this for the long term (5-10 years) and I will not sell a single share, so either A. I'm going to profit or B. I will get margin called because that's the only way I'm selling. [link] [comments] |
XIV, SVXY Halted, News Pending Posted: 06 Feb 2018 04:03 AM PST https://www.zerohedge.com/news/2018-02-06/xiv-svxy-halted-news-pending "With every trader suddenly focused on the vol-ETF complex after last night's collapse in the NAV of the most popular inverse VIX ETF - the Credit Suisse-created VelocityShares XIV - which plunged over 80% effectively triggering a "termination event", this morning it appears that the worst is indeed coming, with both the VelocityShares Daily Inverse VIX Short-Term ETN (XIV) and the ProShares Short VIX Short-Term Futures ETF (SVXY) suspended by the Nasdaq and NYSE Arca, respectively, on pending news." Lessons from an inexperienced VIX trade Posted: 06 Feb 2018 07:07 AM PST Yesterday at the open I bought about a 5% position on the TVIX and some puts on the SPY. By the close I thought, "Wow, how smart am I?" My position had more than doubled by the close. This morning, 20 mins into the open it is back to where I bought it... Fuck me. Also the VIX vastly outperformed the TVIX yesterday, my smartass being certain that a 2X leveraged ETN would out perform the regular VIX ETF(N) [link] [comments] |

Time like this help me realize that I should always take profit Posted: 05 Feb 2018 10:46 PM PST From time to time when there is a rally, be it entering a new year or upcoming ERs, my holdings would start going up more and more. My stomach and brain begin to say sell and hold because it's going up and up. You will never see the old price again. Well, time like this make me realize that always take profit because there are plenty of stocks out there. If not, keep holding cash because your stocks will go back down and you can re-buy it. I was on the edge of breaking even but then shit happened and now almost lost it back again. (haven't sold, though). [link] [comments] |
Posted: 06 Feb 2018 08:53 AM PST I thought good things were in store for BSTI when I bought shares a few months ago after an announcement of a deal with Alibaba, but it has done nothing but go down.. 29% down since I bought it. Does anyone see any potential in this one? It's a little tricky to feel out chinese stocks, and I'm not sure if I should cut my losses now or see where it goes. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 06 Feb 2018 04:49 AM PST Hello everyone. I've been with Degiro for the last couple of months and it hasn't been exactly great. It's definitely a good beginner broker though, so it has basically done its job. Now I'm looking for a broker that's more professional. By professional I mean: - real time quotes - fast order execution - support (it took 2 e-mails and a phone call to resolve a simple issue I had) - decent PC and mobile platform - transparent fee structure - offers a wide variety of stocks, options, futures, forex pairs, bonds So far TD Ameritrade seems like the best candidate. I'd appreciate your feedback on your brokers, good and bad experiences with TD or anything else. [link] [comments] |
$V vs $MSFT - Which is the better pick? Posted: 05 Feb 2018 08:20 PM PST As the correction/dip/whatever you want call it continues, I'm looking to get into some stocks I've been eyeing for awhile. Going to put money into both MSFT and V, but trying to figure out which to invest more into and what you all think is the company with better potential (both near-term and long-term). Interested to see what everyone thinks as there's quite a bit of love for both here. [link] [comments] |
