    Phantom accident? Insurance

    Phantom accident? Insurance

    Phantom accident?

    Posted: 27 Feb 2018 02:50 PM PST

I'm using Metromile to get a quote on insurance, and I noticed it says that I have 2 at-fault accidents on file. One in 2013 (yep) and one in 2014 (??????). I've only ever been in one accident.

I ran my driver's record from the DMV and neither accident show up from the DMV report. But I'm really concerned because I don't know what this accident could even possibly be, or why I would be at fault for an accident I wasn't involved in.

The only thing I can think is that I sold my jeep a few months before that date. Maybe it got into an accident? However, it's not on my insurance or record, and I reported that it was sold in Jan 2014.

Thoughts? I'm in California - license plates stay with the vehicle.

    Question for LDU adjusters

    Posted: 27 Feb 2018 06:26 PM PST

Did you find the job, or did the job find you?

I'm an assistant manager in retail. Earlier this week, a customer in my store gave me their contact info and said to get in touch if I ever wanted a new job. I was told it's because of my customer service.

I've been doing research on the job (it's intimidating and appealing!) but the high turnover rate has me wondering if they actively try to recruit people in that manner.

    [NJ] Medicaid Question

    Posted: 27 Feb 2018 06:10 PM PST

My Mom has a mass under her right eye. She has gone to her regular physician and ENT. Both of whom could not diagnose what it was. Multiple MRI's have since ensued. The ENT does not want to touch the mass because it is touching her eye muscle and if something were to go wrong she could go blind in that eye. He referred her to an Otolaryngologist (step up from an ENT) in NYC who is apparently one of if not the best in this field.

Her insurance: AmeriHealth IHC Silver EPO HSA

She had to enroll on her own this year because she doesn't work full time and my father passed away 2 years ago so she got kicked off his company Cobra plan. She cant go out of network and cant go out of state.

I am in the process of looking into Otolaryngologists who practice in New Jersey. In the interim is there anything I can do to get her better insurance? Her income is low, making her eligible for Medicaid. I was thinking if I applied her for Medicaid and showed her bank statements and investment portfolio statements it would disqualify her because she has money. Then I could either get her a discount on her current insurance (almost $900 a month) or possibly make a change.

Any and all advice is greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance.

[PA] Putting a car on my insurance only to drive it home?

    Posted: 27 Feb 2018 07:46 PM PST

In a couple days I'm going to be picking up another car. I want to wait a couple weeks until the weather warms up and snow is done for good to drive the car, but I still need to drive ~5 hours to get the car home.

Is it possible to insure the car only for the ride but then take it off after it's home and been garaged?

[PA] Can I prevent my insurance from sending info about specific treatments to my house?

    Posted: 27 Feb 2018 09:52 AM PST

I am 24 years old and am under my parents insurance still due to their policy being better and cheaper than my own employer. I also still live at home. When I see specialist, billing related documents or overviews get sent home, and because they pertain to the insurance they pay for, my mother opens them even when addressed to me (that's a different issue for a different subreddit).

I've recently started seeing a psychiatrist and am beginning to take medication I do not want my mother to know about. My doctor told me I could call my insurance company and ask that they do not send documentation to my home. I attempted to do so but the insurance woman on the phone seemed pretty confused by my request and fixated on me wanted to change my address (which I didn't want anyway) and stated that in order to do anything like that I would need to contact my mom's employers HR department to do so.

My question is, is it even possible for insurance companies not to send these sort of documents? Is it a "it depends" sort of case? In the state of Pennsylvania with Aetna insurance. Any advice is appreciated, thank you.

[WA] Why does the EOB from my employer-sponsored group health plan indicate I'm required to carry Medicare Part B?

    Posted: 27 Feb 2018 07:19 PM PST

I am a medicare eligible person on the basis of disability (I am under age 65). I completely a worker retraining program and re-entered the workforce in August 2015 and am currently within my "grace period" to assess whether I am still considered a disabled person.

A timeline of events: August 2015: Started working for Employer 1, dropped Part B effective July 2015 because became eligible for coverage under my employer (cheaper premium). Part A still in Effect.

July 2016: Left Employer 1 and began working for Employer 2, coverage under employer 2 is subject to a 90 probationary period, remained "uninsured" (No Part B, but Part A still in effect) for approximately 90 days

October 2016: Employer 2 health insurance kicks in

December 2016: Employer 2 lays me off

January 2017: become employed part-time at employer 3 and employer 4, due to part time status am not eligible for health insurance, re-enrolled in Part B.

August 2017: accepted full time position with employer 4, medical coverage subject to 90 day probationary period

October 2017: Coverage under employer 4 begins, discontinued Part B effective Sept. 2017

I spent approximately 10 days in the hospital in November 2017 related to my disability. My insurance keeps requesting proof of additional coverage, which I have provided several times, and many of the claims are still pending. Those that have been processed state "Subscriber is eligible for Medicare but failed to enroll. We estimate benefits, patient is liable for remainder."

Can someone explain this to me? Why would I be required to carry Part B (and pay the premium, I do not qualify for reduced premiums or extra assistance) in addition to the coverage to my employer?

I have of course reached out to HR, a department of one, who has put me in touch with a Health Advocate, but I have been having trouble reaching her. Does anyone know what this could be?

Using my roommate's car insured by his parents

    Posted: 27 Feb 2018 02:14 PM PST

    Hi everyone,

So I've never driven before (I'm an int'l student in the US), and it turns out that skill would actually really come in handy! I have to ask my boyfriend (also my roommate) to drive me anywhere, and it's really annoying.

He has a car that belongs to his dad, and also insured by his family. I have a temporary permit from the BMV of Ohio. So essentially I just need more practice (I also signed up for a driving workshop), and then I'll probably be ready to take my exam.

The only problem is that my boyfriend's dad is paranoid about me driving the car and the insurance, claiming that "the insurance will skyrocket," and that "they'll have an accident history" and because of that I'm "absolutely not allowed to touch the car."

Is there anyway around this? Is he right? If he happened to let my borrow the car, what would be the insurance... situation? If I get into an accident while driving the car, who would be responsible?

Thanks a lot for the advice.

Other insurance accepted fault for car accident. My car was brand new and purchased in July of 2017. Do i have to get recycled parts on my car?

    Posted: 27 Feb 2018 07:38 AM PST

    Florida

The at-fault insurance company has admitted fault and is willing to pay for the damages to my car. Problem is there are parts that they are wanting to put on that are recycled. The car is a 2017 model and was purchased in the summer of 2017. They are saying the only way they can place OEM parts on my car is if the recycled parts do not fit or if there is something wrong. Can anybody provide me with any advice? Or should i take the recycled parts and just file a suit for loss in value?

Will my mom find out about using insurance for medicine?

    Posted: 27 Feb 2018 11:33 AM PST

I am a 25-year-old graduate student still under my mom's medical insurance. I am currently seeing a therapist for depression, which my mom knows. The therapist told me to see a doctor and explain my depression symptoms so that I can get prescribed medication.

My mom is very anti-depression medication, but I thought about going to the doctor. I worry that she will find out I went and knew that they prescribed me medication that I am taking. I know I'm an adult and yadda yadda, but I can't afford insurance just yet, and I'd like to stay in her plan until I graduate next year.

Will my mom find out about the doctor's visit and the prescription?

Coverage for 2 birth control methods: Paragard + Implant | Paragard after sterilization

    Posted: 27 Feb 2018 10:00 PM PST

As in the title. Looking to see if multiple birth control methods can be covered concurrently.

I'm currently not on birth control, but if I wanted to use the Paragard IUD and the implant at the same time, would they both be covered? (Obviously, using three methods (these two plus condoms) for increased effectiveness)

Also, I know someone who had the Essure sterilization procedure three years ago and wants to get a copper IUD (Paragard) for backup (Essure is not 100% effective). Since there's no medical reason for the Paragard, would that be covered?

    TX - looking for advice

    Posted: 27 Feb 2018 03:08 PM PST

Have a truck that currently do not use too often so it was removed from the insurance policy. Every now and then I want to use the truck when it's required but cannot because it has no insurance. Is there a company that would give decent prices for a vehicle that would be moved once or twice a month?

On another note, father has a car on which he has a car note so all the coverages are needed. It is currently in need of some repairs so he decided not to drive it as often. Same question as above.

    We live in Texas.

    Thanks!

Will insurance cover long term PT or massage?

    Posted: 27 Feb 2018 02:39 PM PST

My boyfriend had his thyroid out two years ago and sees a massage therapist for chronic pain from scar tissue. When he first got it out, his insurance paid for him to go to physical therapy, but not for very long. He's managed it with frequent massage, but the relief they give him isn't lasting as long and he needs them more frequently which is eating into his finances. His doctor just gave him another script for PT but I'm worried it's just going to be a temporary fix to what's looking like a lifelong problem. Any advice on ways insurance could help offset the cost?

Confused re: rates, long after accident.

    Posted: 27 Feb 2018 01:57 PM PST

I got in accident February 2016. Pedestrian not at a crosswalk walked into my vehicle, tire rolled over his foot and his arm broke the glass in my side mirror. He promptly put his shoe back on and attempted to walk away. I called police- and asked him to stay. (He did stay after 2-3 more attempts to leave). Both of us have the same insurance company.

The case settled August 31, 2017. My policy renews April and October. I just got my 5th policy renewal and my rates have not gone up. I still have my accident free discount.

I went to an independent agent in January when I moved and she quoted me with and without the accident- as we couldnt be sure what state farm would do after the accident settled. Her accident free policies were cheaper. Today I went back and she told me all of her polices are more expensive.

Why are some insurance companies charging me for an accident if State Farm says I'm accident free? When I spoke to State Farm they said I'd lose my good drivers discount and get a 10% surcharge raising my rate another 25%. That hasnt happened with this 6 month renewal. I'm so confused. Anybody have a clue? My local agent seems clueless.

    rental car insurance

    Posted: 27 Feb 2018 07:28 PM PST

i (rental car) got into a collision with another car at a parking lot. i only have collision damage coverage for the rental. i know i might be liable for the third party (another car). is the third party obligated to allow my shop to do an inspection/estimate? the third party has already done an estimate and it seems to be very high for the minor collision (touch) we had.

First car accident. Looking for advice in regards to what I need to do.

    Posted: 27 Feb 2018 10:27 AM PST

    In Massachusetts.

Got into a car accident this morning. Sat at T-intersection. Looked left, right, but didn't look left again to check for cars before turning in left. Collision to the my side. Side airbags deployed.

Damage to the other driver's car front. Driver side tire and door got damaged on my side.

EMS and police came. Didn't seem to be any physical harm to either of us. Police gave me a citation for failing to heed stop sign with report number to pass to insurance.

Both cars got towed to a nearby towing company.

Exchanged license plate numbers and license numbers. Called insurance company and followed their instructions for claims. An auto body shop was contacted and I think they need to do an appraisal or something.

Anything I should or shouldn't do now? I don't know the proper procedure for any of this or what's the best way to handle these situations.

Losing health coverage, can I get put on my husband's insurance mid-year?

    Posted: 27 Feb 2018 07:06 PM PST

My husband and I work at the same company and have full coverage health insurance through Kaiser, but we're on separate accounts. I'm taking a medical program in July, and will have to be unemployed until I finish school. The problem is that I am required to have medical insurance to take the program.

Can I get put on my husband's insurance in the middle of the year? Or am I screwed? Can I pay out of pocket to keep my Kaiser insurance, at least until I finish the program in September? I know nothing about insurance, and I don't even know who to ask for help.

How can I reduce my annual insurance prices?

    Posted: 27 Feb 2018 02:55 PM PST

    Hi all,

To skip the bullshit in 2016 my license was suspended whilst I was on my provisional license for speeding. Apart from that I've had a clean driving record, never involved in a crash etc

I'm 21 years old and insurance is very expensive now, I've learnt my lesson.

Is there any useful tips to possibly reduce the price of my annual car insurance? (apart from the old don't speed next time jokes)

    COBRA insurance age limits? [Florida]

    Posted: 27 Feb 2018 01:19 PM PST

On January 26th, I received a letter from my fathers employer that I have been expired from the policy on December 31st (my father retired) and gave options to elect COBRA coverage within 60 days. It gave COBRA options for Medical, Dental and Vision, all listed separately with different costs for each three. I elected to sign up and paid the premiums for only Dental and Vision.

I have been chasing down my policy information since I paid the premiums, and have finally been told today that the letter should have only offered medical coverage, as I am 27 years old and the employers dental and vision plans only cover up to age 26.

I checked with the government marketplace and it looks like I have 4 days left since the expiration of my last policy to choose a plan. I also would have to select a health plan in order to get a dental plan from the marketplace, but I am only looking for a dental plan right now. I thought I was covered now, have major dental work upcoming next week, so I'm panicking and don't know what to do.

Does the employer's explanation sound possible? Why didn't they kick me from the policy when I turned 27 earlier in the year? I am trying to decide if I need to fight the employer for COBRA coverage or find other coverage elsewhere.

If all else fails, is it possible to find a dental insurance plan that doesn't have a waiting period for major services, and all within 4 days before I will have been not covered for too long? I'm in the middle of dental work right now and this has really put a wrench in things. Please help!

Scheduled Personal Property - To Claim or Not to Claim

    Posted: 27 Feb 2018 11:16 AM PST

After 12 years wifey lost her engagement ring, well actually the diamond fell out. It was a tension setting and we knew it was a possibility so we took out separate scheduled personal property insurance in addition to our Allstate homeowners policy to cover it. The lost diamond will be covered but we don't know if it is worth it to file a claim. There's no deductable but if a claim is filed will the premium increase? Redditors, have any of you been in this situation? What did you do? If you filed a claim did you end up paying more in the long run?

Car insurance companies that still do 3 year surcharges for accidents?

    Posted: 27 Feb 2018 11:40 AM PST

I had an at-fault-accident in March of 2015. My renewal is coming up on 4/1/2018. So far, it looks like Liberty Mutual (current carrier), Progressive and AAA go back 5 years.

I don't mind wasting a stamp to mail an app to those companies that don't let me quote any other way (looking at you, Geico). I live in MI, so I'll take what I can get.

    NY State - P&C Pre-Licensing Requirements

    Posted: 27 Feb 2018 08:55 AM PST

    Hi all,

Previously I was a broker in Australia. I moved to NYC last year and worked as a risk and insurance manager for a company here in NYC. Unfortunately, poor financial results means my position is being consolidated and I am being laid off. I'm looking at going back into broking and will need my P&C license.

Does the 90-hour pre-licensing requirement have to be completed in class or can it be done online (preferred for me)?

    Cheers!

    Renter's insurance theft claim

    Posted: 27 Feb 2018 08:15 AM PST

My car was stolen from the outside of my apartment. Was eventually found but everything inside was stolen and the car had some damage. I filed a police report and the police found no signs of forced break in. Renter's insurance is denying the claim saying they need proof of forced break in to compensate me. Do I have any options or am I out of luck? I have no idea how the thieves turned my Jeep on without the key
