Posted: 31 Jan 2018 08:01 PM PST Hi! I'm looking to make a career change to the insurance industry. I'm very interested in a position with risk control for commercial casualty and I was wondering if anyone would take a look at my resume and offer some advice? Thanks! [link] [comments] |
Moving from MD to NH 32 weeks pregnant Posted: 31 Jan 2018 11:35 PM PST I'm currently on Maryland state health. I'm 28 weeks pregnant. We're moving to New Hampshire in 3-4 weeks. How do I handle switching from one state health to the other seamlessly so I can keep up with my prenatal appointments? [link] [comments] |
Term Life Insurance and Weight Loss Posted: 01 Feb 2018 02:58 AM PST I think this is a dumb question, but I'll try anyway. I'm expecting my first baby in May, and one of the items on my to do list is to get (term) life insurance for me and my husband - we have probably needed it before (own home, two incomes), but I know with a kid it's universally recommended. My question is my weight. I've always been obese, lost weight a few years ago getting down to "just" overweight, backslid up to obese, and now I'm back where I started. I know this puts me into a higher risk group and will affect rates/coverage. My plan is to lose weight after baby (I know everyone says this), finally getting down to a healthy weigt for the first time in my life. My question is, if I am able to do this, can I adjust an existing life insurance policy based on a potentially changed risk factor? Or does it not matter because having ever been overweight will have an impact, or for some period after? I'm guessing I shouldn't wait, but should I get a shorter term policy and get a new one after losing weight? [link] [comments] |
Oral surgeon never billed my insurance Posted: 31 Jan 2018 10:54 PM PST I had some dental work done about a year ago (can't remember the exact dates). I paid $650 out of pocket to the oral surgeon the day of the procedure, the rest was to be covered by my insurance. I never heard anything else about it until today when I received the explanation of benefits from my insurance company. It shows a patient balance of $1230 and it's coded saying the claim wasn't filed within 6 months as required by my dental plan. I haven't heard anything from the oral surgeon yet, but I can only imagine a bill for $1230 is coming soon. If and when the bill does come, what are my options? It was an in network provider. Does car rental reimbursement provide rental out of state. Posted: 01 Feb 2018 12:56 AM PST My car got hit by hit and run driver and need to be repaired. Normally my insurance covers the rental car. But i am going away soon for a week to another state. Can I get my rental reimbursement for out of state rental if my car is in the shop the same week? [link] [comments] |
Posted: 31 Jan 2018 11:04 AM PST I currently have Erie insurance for condo and auto through an agent in my home town. I have not had to use it, but my parents have used theirs and haven't had any issues. My rates drastically increase every year (nearly doubled in the two years I've used Erie), so I am shopping around for better rates. For the coverage I have now, condo insurance seems to be pretty standard throughout, but for auto I've found progressive and Geico are both much more competitive for the same Auto coverage. I am paying around $511 per 6 months through Erie, Geico would only cost me $391 for this coverage, and Progressive is only $251. Does anyone have experience with any of these companies, looking for any feedback. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 31 Jan 2018 08:45 AM PST I've run into a big problem with our private health insurance. My daughter lives with cystic fibrosis and as a result needs a lot of medications. Our family has a private health insurance coverage through my husbands job, but for my daughter we have medicaid as backup insurance since the cost of her care is enormous even after insurance. Medicaid covers 100% of her medical costs after the primary insurance pays their portion. Recently, she was prescribed a medication that had to be filled through a specialty pharmacy and when I went to fill it through the specialty division of our current pharmacy, our primary insurance told us we had to use their in house specialty pharmacy. I know this is typical and honestly I didn't care as long as we got the meds. When they called to get my info to send the Rx they asked for a payment method for the very large copay and I told them that they could bill the remainder to medicaid. Long story short, they won't and or can't bill medicaid due to not having an agreement with them. The big problem is now they are still saying we have no choice but to use their pharmacy and pay the very high copays. They will not let me fill the Rx through another pharmacy even though any other pharmacy would let us use both insurances and our out of pocket cost would be nothing. Its not so much of a concern now since my daughter is only on one specialty medication but in the next year or so she could be on half a dozen or so and our out of pocket cost could get into the thousands every month which we simply cannot afford. Can they really do this? Deny us the ability to use all of the coverage I have for my daughter? All of the people that treat/advocate for my daughter at Children Hospital of Colorado seem to think they can't do this but no one knows specifics. Do I have any foothold to compel our private insurance to provide us with path to use my daughters medicaid when filling specialty Rx's. [link] [comments] |
Hit a jaywalker. He ran away. My car was damaged but I didnt realize until I got home. Posted: 31 Jan 2018 09:39 PM PST This happened tonight in Oakland, CA. I was driving through the city, 2 lanes with another car beside me, about 20mph. All of a sudden a young man appears in front of me. He sprinted across the road, making it past the other car, but did not see me and wasnt able to make it. I slam on the brakes and stop just as I hit him and he ended up leaned down on the hood of my car(didnt seem like a hard hit). He quickly hopped up and ran off without giving me time to even ask if he was o.k. The other cars went around me and kept driving. It happened so fast and he ran so quickly that I didnt think about damage and just went on my way. I got home and saw extensive scratches on my hood from his left hand sliding(like he was holding keys or something), and a big dent from his right hand with chipped paint. My question is, will I have trouble getting my insurance to pay for the damage under these circumstances? I didnt stop and take pictures at the scene, no police report, no witnesses. Its a 3 year old car and I have full coverage. What should I do? [link] [comments] |
The other party refused to give me his insurance information after hitting my parked car Posted: 31 Jan 2018 10:50 AM PST My car got hit while parked and the other party leave his contact information on the windshield. I contact him on the other day and he said he doesn't want to report it to his insurance company. I went to 2 body shop and ask for a quote for repairing, however he thinks it's too expensive and refuse to pay for it. We tried to negotiate to find the best solution, however we can't make any compromise. That's why I report it to a third party (insurance agent) and let them decide the repairing fee. I asked for his insurance information and he refused to give me too. After 1 week, I am tired of negotiating with him, I reported it to my insurance company, and they said they couldn't contact the other party. What can I do now? (I only got his name, E-mail and phone number and the school he goes to) (I tried to file a police report but the police said "since the other party left his contact information, it's a civil matter. They can't do anything about it") [link] [comments] |
Posted: 31 Jan 2018 12:32 PM PST I am in the process of getting a few quotes from different companies and independent providers. One thing I have seen is a "Water Backup" cost. The way it was described to me by an agent was if a toilet overflowed, bathtub overflowed, and there was damage, this is what it is for. There were options of different amounts in the quote, of 10k, 25k and 50k. I opted for 50k. Here is my reasoning: I made a claim about 3 yrs ago that was in this scenario. A tub overflowed due to overflow valve failure, and I had to get two floors of floors replaced, all my things moved out, etc etc etc. The total cost was $28k. However, in my current policy with my current insurer it does not show this as an additional coverage. It seems to be looped into the coverage. Is this normal? What is "water backup"? Do I need to up it to the highest level? If I set it at $10k and then my toilet overflows (I have children) and its another 28k of damage, what happens? Thanks in advance! [link] [comments] |
Auto Insurance Jumped for No Reason Posted: 31 Jan 2018 08:59 PM PST My SO and I have our auto insurance bundled together for a multi-car discount through USAA. Today I found out that our insurance premium is going to skyrocket on Feb 9th. We were paying $899/6 mo for two cars, and now our renewal price is $1375/6 mo. Nothing happened. We didn't move, we didn't get new cars, we're both 28, we've never been in an accident, and we both have cars that are 10 years old. I was on the phone with a couple of representatives today, and though they agreed that the increase is egregious, they also said that those are simply their rates now. Is this normal? Are there any strategies you have when looking for new providers, or do you have any referrals? I really like USAA, and I hate to leave them, but this new premium is just too expensive. Posted: 31 Jan 2018 08:27 PM PST I've noticed some high bills from my usual office visits this year and on the BCBS website, it says my policy has been cancelled (since 1-01-2018). I've contacted BCBS and they said that I need to reach out to the marketplace as it's been cancelled through them. I go back and forth with different people on these calls and found that they all were having issues with my status as an independent. In 2016 I turned 26 and had to apply as independent from my dad. I've had health insurance all throughout 2017 under my own subscriber name. Now that it's 2018 I've tried to re-enroll in the same plan back in Nov 2017. The marketplace rep mentioned that even while entering my phone number, address and even my SSN, it's pulling up my dad's name and I can't even open my own application. He said my name was not pulled out apart from my dad's insurance this whole time even though I was independent as I file my own taxes. I'm not sure what this means exactly, but I had to call my dad and make sure I was separated from the household account. I've talked this over with a pharmtech and she says that my insurance should have updated this change automatically a looong time ago and that it's their fault this is even an issue. They're saying this isn't considered a loss of coverage because I applied through the marketplace beforehand and that I don't have a valid case for the special enrollment period. Do I handle this through the insurance company or the marketplace (they keep telling me to call the other,)? Were they really supposed to have taken me off my dad's plan automatically once I became independent? I'm seriously feeling like this is a 'tough luck, pay the penalty and try again next year' situation, but I don't know how to go about this. [link] [comments] |
Do I need renters insurance if I specifically am not listed on home owners policy and mortgage? Posted: 31 Jan 2018 08:13 PM PST I live with my significant other, who owns the house and is the one on the mortgage and the home owners policy. We are not married or anything of the sort. We split all the living expenses 50/50 (which is probably irrelevant). In short, should I be getting my own renters insurance as I essentially renting, or would I/myself be covered under the home owners? Renters insurance is dirt cheap, so if I need it, it's definitely no big deal. Edit: Grammar [link] [comments] |
Posted: 31 Jan 2018 03:09 PM PST The at-fault driver sent my insurance company a policy demand letter. My insurance company is persuading me to accept 10% fault and accept the demand. I am okay with this, though I believe the other diver was 100% at fault. However, I would like to know what the effect of this would be on my recovery when I send my own demand letter. Would my recovery be reduced by 10%? Please advice. Thank you. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 31 Jan 2018 05:54 PM PST Hello everyone, TD;LR: I would like to know if there was some sort of payment protection or business insurance policy to protect contractors from nonpaying customers. Background A while back my uncle was laid off and began working as a contractor to make ends meet. He was doing fine until he took on a job from a shady individual. Long story short, the person who hired him was himself a contractor who pulled off a subcontractor con. He hired all subcontractors and didn't pay any of them. Then made off with the money and skipped town. My uncle put in about 30k out of pocket and did most of the work until he caught on to what was going on. My uncle is now in serious debt and fighting in court with the other subcontractors. However, this is going to be a long battle and he no longer has any credit lines or money left to fund any other jobs. In an effort to prevent this from happening again on other jobs, is there an insurance product that could be used to cover these situations? [link] [comments] |
No Fault Insurance and Dash Cameras Posted: 31 Jan 2018 02:06 PM PST Hello! I have a general question about the nonsense that is no fault insurance. Say I live in a state like Michigan and some idiot rear ends me while I'm stopped at a stop light, or some other idiot runs a red light and T-bones me. Let's also say that one person who hit me about a month ago (POS deadbeat) ended up persuading me to buy a dash camera. If I submit video evidence of the other party being clearly in the wrong, is there any chance of me recovering my deductible, rental car costs, and diminished value? [link] [comments] |
Will (legal) medical cannabis change my 20 year term life insurance rate? Posted: 31 Jan 2018 05:42 PM PST I am a 48 years old Californian, fit, 5'10"/155#, walk about 20 miles a week, work out, and use medical cannabis at the recommendation of my MD to help me sleep. Will a positive cannabis test at my physical change my monthly rate? I am almost surely being insured by Prudential, and the policy will be for (likely) $1.5 million, 20 years term. Thanks in advance, and fyi I have stopped smoking/vaping for now just in case. I was told by a friend at Farmer's that they don't care about cannabis if you admit to using, but if you lie and test dirty they will give you a tobacco user's rate. Love to hear your thoughts on that as well. If I stay in the preferred rate they said to expect about $234 a month. Any advice is appreciated! [link] [comments] |
Rental car from the other insurance? Posted: 31 Jan 2018 10:01 AM PST Hey /r/insurance last night I was in an accident and it was not my fault and the other guy was issued the ticket and accepted blame. I just dropped my car off at the mechanics this morning and it was deemed non drivable immediately after dropping it off. I have already informed my insurance company in Colorado and have full coverage just not rental car coverage. I am 22 so I am unsure how to ask the other insurance to cover a rental car for me since I will be unable to drive mine in tell it is repaired. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 31 Jan 2018 05:27 PM PST Car Insurance- Florida- I lent my car to a "friend" John who then lent it to a minor Tim that got in a wreck and fled the scene. Insurers deemed the vehicle a total loss. I was financing the car so I had full coverage as state requires. My Insurance company is saying they can't conclude the investigation until they receive a statement from the minor and the other alleged passenger in the vehicle at the time of the crash. Tim's parents are psycho. Have threatened to shoot me if I show up to their house and every time I call they just scream conspiracies at me about my claim. All I want them to do is let Tim make a statement. Tim's parents apparently told my insurers that John had RENTED the car to Tim and that is how Tim came into possession of my vehicle. My car's safety feature called the emergency services after the crash and police found it abandoned smashed into a tree. I found out about it all when I came back in town a few days later. I had John make a statement with he police and he showed evidence that Tim was attempting to run off with the vehicle but failed. The police were of no help because my car was the only property damaged during the crash so it's my problem they chuckled. Had the vehicle damaged city property or hit someone, then they would be able to do something about it. I'm worried my insurance won't pay out my collision claim because the parents are unstable, give conflicting stories or flat out deny to speak to the insurers doing the investigation. I have no relation to any of these people and I have never met Tim. The insurer hinted to me on the phone that it was my responsibility if I lent my car out to an irresponsible person. Do I have a chance of getting coverage for the collision? Will I be out of luck and have to pursue other civil legal actions? What are my options and expectations? [link] [comments] |
What car insurance do I need to look for? Posted: 31 Jan 2018 01:09 PM PST I am a college student who has never directly had car insurance, I have always just paid my parents for what my cost was to the family car insurance. Our family has always had pretty expensive insurance because all of us have a car, 6 cars total, and a couple of my brothers have not been the safest drivers. I will be buying a 2005 Accord, in full, in the next month or so and using that as my "daily driver". I paid off my current vehicle, a 2000 GMC truck, in 2014 and have every intention to keep it, just because I don't need it as a down payment, and it's always good to have a truck for the utility of it. I only plan on driving the truck periodically to keep it from sitting for too long and whenever I need it to haul stuff on the weekends. I want to know what type of insurance I need that will keep costs as low as possible, while still being the appropriate coverage. I have NO IDEA what to look for and what to watch out for! Would it be better to buy the Accord under my own name and get insurance for just it, or also take the truck from under my parents and get insurance for both under my name, or put them both under my parents name and just keep paying for my portion of the insurance? How to get multiple auto insurance quotes? Posted: 31 Jan 2018 10:30 AM PST Is there an efficient way to get quotes from multiple companies? The one-by-one method seems like it will take forever and result in lots of spam. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 31 Jan 2018 09:10 AM PST So I received my medi cal benefits recently. But I also start a new job next week. Benefits for this new job do not kick in for 90 days. Can I just stay on my medi cal plan till the benefits kick in or is that not kosher? What should I do? [link] [comments] |
Obtaining car rental reimbursement ( Other party found at fault after 3 months ) Posted: 31 Jan 2018 08:52 AM PST So I was hit by a car doing an improper multi-lane change and went through my insurance until the matter was settled by our insurance companies. It took them a few months but the other party was found at fault and I was reimbursed my deductible but not my rental fee portion ( I have a have to pay 20% ). I tried to go through the other party's insurance to get this and after 3 weeks I get this: The subrogation demands sent by your insurance company have been reviewed. There were modifications made on the rental amount requested by your insurance company. Comparable rental is owed in Pennsylvania. 17 days are reasonable based on 38.4 estimate labor hours. Reasonable days were calculated based on 8 repair days, 3 non drive, 1 supplement, 1 additional, and 4 weekend days. 17 days at $37.04 per day (including taxes) totaling $629.63 any other rental is not covered. This payment has already been issued to your insurance company. Of course the total rental in the end was a bit higher ( closer to $1,000, ~$for me ). I am assuming that there is no way for me to get the $200 reimbursed? Thanks [link] [comments] |
