I want to hear YOUR opinions on accountants! Posted: 31 Jan 2018 03:37 PM PST I'm looking to hear from the small business owners of this subreddit what they like and don't like about their current accountants. What type of services do you use? If you don't use one, why? To be clear I am not going to sell you anything, I am a young accountant myself and I am trying to poll business owners to see where I can differentiate myself from the pack. Thanks in advance! Posted: 31 Jan 2018 05:08 PM PST My sister has been in touch with a guy who has asked her to invest in his restaurant business. He wants to open a burrito restaurant and has ~800,000$ in cash. He's asking my sister for $18,000. In return he says he will give her 2.5% of his monthly net income once the business starts making money. His other partners are his own cousins. He also mentioned that his sister, who lives in California, is dying and later in the year he will go to California for a few months to be with her. This seems like a scam to me. But my sister seems to be convinced that's an amazing opportunity. What do you guys think? Edit: Thank you all. I made these exact same comments to my sister who did not believe me. I'll show her this thread. [link] [comments] |
Price of baby cot bedding set, need idea about US/UK/Europe market Posted: 01 Feb 2018 01:57 AM PST Me and my wife makes and sell custom made baby cot bedding set. We are doing this locally only but now I was thinking to sell them online to US/UK/Europe. But I don't have any idea about price of these items there. Can you please take a look at the album and give me some estimate of how much these items cost there? A set may contain: 4 sided bumper But it also varies a little and sometime a set may contain: 1 carry bag I don't have any idea about US market so just wanted to take an advice. [link] [comments] |
Do you offer employee benefits? Are benefits no longer important to employees? Posted: 31 Jan 2018 10:32 AM PST Do you offer employee benefits? Are benefits no longer important to employees? I am the director of a computer services / IT firm in NJ with about 10 employees. The owner and myself both were horrified by how poorly competitors can treat employees in our industry, so we were determined to be different.
We worked really hard to be able to offer:
We really tried to offer an excellent benefits package so our employees could have long term fulfilling careers with us, but it seems like most current/future/past employees just don't care about our benefits. Almost all of our employees started as entry level and we were really excited to offer a benefits package for them. It is pretty disappointing that they don't share in our excitement. For example: Only one person has used their health savings account to date. Some employees opted not to participate in our 401K, others opted to contribute less than 5%. Only one employee uses the gym membership reimbursement. Employees have asked for additional paid vacation time and said we did not offer enough. We have had employees leave for other jobs that offered a little bit more hourly pay, but no benefits. Candidates for new positions do not seem interested in hearing about our benefits. Candidates have opted to stay at their contractor positions rather than take a full time job with us.
Are we just out of touch and have not realized that benefits are no longer important to employees in 2018? Even though we personally value offering employees benefits, are we just wasting our time and money on this?

What gives you the biggest headache as a project based business? Posted: 31 Jan 2018 08:04 AM PST |
Not feeling engaged at work... why? Posted: 31 Jan 2018 01:49 PM PST Only 32% of US employees are engaged in their work. What causes such low levels? In your experience, what has made a job fulfilling for you, or what has hindered you from being engaged in your work? Is it lack of benefits at work? Not feeling valued by your boss/coworkers? Doing work that doesn't align with your skill set? [link] [comments] |
If you own a service business that goes to a customers home, how do you advertise? Posted: 31 Jan 2018 12:59 PM PST We're currently using google my places listings only and it's been good so far but we want to diversify and expand. We're wondering what other people have been using with some success? [link] [comments] |
Factories & Manufacturing My Product. Where To Begin? Posted: 31 Jan 2018 01:32 PM PST Just finishing the prototype phase for a 9v motorized device with metal innards and plastic shell, about 6" tall, 4" wide, 3" deep....now we need to present the prototype to some factories and get them to make their own prototypes for us to approve pre-production. I have no clue where to begin with this. From what I have read, it's best to go with factories that have a great reputation for not fucking over their clients (ie; sending out your product directly to your competition, showing you a great pre-production prototype then mass producing something completely different or of less quality). So, what are some resources on this? Willing to travel to Asia. I am actually going to Vietnam in a month if there are opportunities there, otherwise China is fine. [link] [comments] |
Automate your work for better efficiency. Posted: 31 Jan 2018 11:10 PM PST We at https://qdonow.com have automated our CRM as well as other essential work using zapier. This way we have saved a lot of time. We have also shared https://goo.gl/fZztZ8 the zaps that we are using to automate our blog and digital presence. Now I'm wondering what are the other possible Zapier zaps which can make my blogging life more simpler through automation? and would love to get some feedback on this topic. [link] [comments] |

Posted: 31 Jan 2018 07:57 PM PST Hi, I currently own and operate a security service business. There is a wingstop for sale near me. I've gone over the books and it mismanaged with absentee owners. I'm thinking about purchasing it and attempting to turn it around. Sales are 25% of what they should be currently. Just looking for any advice or tips. My current business only requires about 15 hours a week to operate after hiring a manager. [link] [comments] |
Service Business - Should I keep track of Client Purchases in Xero (Accounting) Posted: 31 Jan 2018 07:55 PM PST Hi Everyone, I'm doing the books for my wife's cosmetic tattooing business and I'm just wondering if I should bother trying to keep track in Xero of what each payment is related to, or just lump it all under "Sales". She receives payments from 3 different sources; Cash, Eftpos and Stripe (online bookings). When I'm reconciling it would be possible to create a "Receive Money" transaction for each client and then reconcile or part reconcile it against lump sums that come from Cash or eftpos deposits. I'm just wondering if it is worth the extra admin hassle? We keep track of who has paid in our booking software separately, so that part isn't a concern. We're in Australia if that's relevant. What do you think? Thanks in advance. [link] [comments] |
Need help to determine how to go about billing a 3rd party for implied / accidental consulting work Posted: 31 Jan 2018 12:05 PM PST Hello! This is basically my first reddit post ever so go easy on me if i'm not doing it correctly. I own a small technical Managed Service Provider, installing and maintaining telecom and IT infrastructures for small and medium businesses. This issue has cropped up a few times and I am looking for some advice on how to deal with it. We are in the process of doing a large scale project for a customer, we have been interacting with a local ISP and installing our routing equipment to the ISP provided fiber optic MPLS network. The ISP is also a customer of ours in a different context, but in this case we are working for our customer and not the ISP. Due to internal programming issues on the ISP's part, we have spent upwards of 10 hours troubleshooting their programming and infrastructure to get some complicated network routing working properly. Throughout this entire experience, the ISP has denied any error or responsibility for the issue until the end, at which point they determined they did in fact have problems with their service and corrected those problems. We have spent those 10 hours working with the equipment vendor and the ISP to prove that the problems were due to the ISP and not our equipment or our programming. Since those 10+ hours were spent out of the scope of the actual project we were doing for our customer, and we essentially determined the problem was the result of the ISP not doing their job correctly, those 10 hours of troubleshooting time are wasted and unpaid. Is it reasonable (and how do I) approach the ISP to say "Hey, we spent 10 hours troubleshooting your solution, effectively acting as outside consultants on your behalf to fix your problems. Please pay us accordingly!" This is not the first time that this situation has occurred with this particular ISP, and we do have a good working relationship with them and they are also a customer of ours. What should I do to prevent myself from eating 10 hours of consulting time? [link] [comments] |
Micro-Business Owner To-be has Two Questions as Small as his Business... Posted: 31 Jan 2018 07:07 PM PST Thanks in advance for any guidance on the birthing process for a small business. The gauntlet of paperwork has been vexing, to say the least. Anyhow, I wanted to know the following:
Thank you again for your help! It's duly appreciated! [link] [comments] |
No distributions shared, do I still have to fill out a K-1? (Tax filing for LLC partnership) Posted: 31 Jan 2018 06:28 PM PST Hi tax experts! I just started an LLC partnership with a friend and we started selling our product (party card game) last November. We've purchased about 1000 copies from a supplier and have sold about 200. To fund our business, we each deposited some money in our business checking account to pay for the 1000 copies. All of our revenue from the 200 units was deposited in the same business checking account. We do not plan to "pay ourselves" for a couple years because we want to invest back into the business (we have corporate jobs so don't worry, we're not searching dumpsters for food at this point, yet). Since we are not transferring any money to our personal checking accounts and therefore not earning income, do we still need to fill out a K-1 and report income? Thanks! [link] [comments] |
I bought a van, what can I do with it? Posted: 31 Jan 2018 05:35 PM PST I got a Chevrolet Express 2500 and I plan to use it to make money. I've bought and sold vehicles on my own for years, and this is one of them. I figure while I have it, I could put it to work. What sorts of things can I do for little risk, money and certification? Google tells me about courier services, small time moving, advertising on the side and so on. Is there anything in front of my eyes that I'm missing? [link] [comments] |
Does anyone own commercial property in the US? Posted: 31 Jan 2018 03:37 PM PST We are on track to make our last commercial (small business) loan payment in the next 6 months. I have heard in the past that we'll need to have some form of debt to keep taxes from eating up all the profits. Is this true? Do we or should we be looking to purchase something else for the business or with in the business? A company vehicle? or a smaller equity loan for new equipment? I am super excited because we've been paying upwards of $3k a month for the last decade and to know that this $3k a month is no longer going towards the property. I am still concerned that we need a plan for that extra capital that this loan pay off will create. Thanks in advance! [link] [comments] |

Posted: 31 Jan 2018 02:44 PM PST Has anyone ever bought an electrical enclosure directly from a manufacturer? We are currently using an enclosure made by dse hibox and we buy it through Allied Electronics where it's branded as a Bud enclosure. We use it to house a control that we sell. The prices on these enclosures are all too high. I'm wondering if I can order enough, can I order directly from the manufacturer. I know similar companies have done similar things but I cannot find any info on Hibox. I have contacted them but have not yet received a reply. Hopefully I do soon though. Thanks for any info. Email Verification Tool for Google Sheets Posted: 31 Jan 2018 11:25 AM PST As a founder, i do both marketing and sales in my company. And number one tool i always start with is a blank Google Sheet with add-ons that can supercharge it. There are a few companies that let you find email addresses related to a domain, like Hunter and Clearbit. But i was looking for email address verification tool for my team. So we can search email addresses manually and verify them in a few clicks. We spent a week building such a tool and today it was approved by Google. Let me introduce you Email Verification Tool, a Google Sheet add-on. It currently provides real-time bulk lookups — up to 20 at a time). Here is a quick guide on how to use it:
Would like to get any feedback on how to make it more useful. [link] [comments] |
