Travellers insurance is asking for visa status to process claim

    Posted: 02 Feb 2018 04:15 AM PST

Another car hit my friends car from behind two days ago. Police decided it was the other driver's fault. Now the at fault party's insurance (Travellers) is asking for my friend's visa status to reimburse repair and the passenger's health expenses. Is this normal procedure?

    Property Inventory/Proof of Ownership

    Posted: 02 Feb 2018 12:52 AM PST

I recently had a pipe rupture in my rental home, flooding the lower level. In addition to some furniture, I had clothing wrecked as well. I completed an inventory of my damaged property and was asked to provide proof of ownership, but I'm unsure how. For much of the items, they were purchased 2-4 years ago, and have been with me through multiple moves. I just don't have any receipts anymore. Would pictures be good enough for this? Also, since it was a sewer line that ruptured, the cleanup crew disposed of a lot of the clothing and bedding/linens, how would I provide proof of ownership for that stuff?

I have contacted my insurance and left a voicemail asking, but I thought maybe you guys would have some ideas.

Why do I need prior authorization if I'm going to an approved clinic for my flu shot?

    Posted: 01 Feb 2018 05:48 PM PST

(In California) So the web site says just walk in to an approved clinic and it's covered. I show up to the "CVS Minute Clinic" and they say it's covered and I don't pay anything and get the shot. Some time later, I'm getting a letter from United saying they rejected the $45 payment and now I'm on the hook. An appeal was denied. That makes no sense, do they want me to get the flu? What should I do?

Check in lieu of Repair (Alberta, Canada)

    Posted: 01 Feb 2018 10:23 PM PST

    Hey Reddit,

I was in an automobile collision but not at fault.

My car's market asking prices range from $2,000 to up to $5,500 .

Estimation done this morning and it was $4,000.

I wonder when next week the adjuster get back to me, if I can 1) ask for a cheque in lieu of repairing; 2) did I commit any fraud/collusion for asking? and 3) how would the insurance company react? Would they start low balling me?

My worry is that the insurance co. refuse to write off my car because the highest seller is asking $5500, and pay $4k to the body shop; then when I ask for a cheque they turn and say $2000.

[Reinsurance] Applied for actuarial position, being redirected towards Strategic Advisory or Broking.

Can anyone give a quick ELI5 about how these departments apply to reinsurance? I expect to get some info from them directly, but for now I just heard the news from my recruiter and would like to get a head start to feed my curiosity.

    Thanks!

Car wreck not being covered because it was an "Ice Event"

    Posted: 01 Feb 2018 01:12 PM PST

I was in a wreck January 2nd where a red truck in front of me started to change lanes, and immediately started spinning out. It spun around all three lanes multiple times, and I collided with the back of it. Two other vehicles wrecked behind me(did not hit me), as everyone had to slam their brakes for this guy. To make things worse the driver of the red truck sped off immediately. Apparently he stopped "somewhere down the road" and waited for help for over an hour until leaving... Wether he did or not, it still makes no sense that his initial reaction would be to speed off. He might have realized that his bumper and liscense plate had fallen off, and that's why he stopped instead of trying to get away. We ended up using it to find him.

Anyways, Allstate is his insurance, I have Nationwide, and as of now Nationwide is waiting on Allstate to deal with it. I just got off the phone, and Allstate is telling me that it is probably going to get written off because it was an "Ice Event". The guy was driving recklessly, spun around all three lanes, could've easily seriously injured me or someone else, and they're going to write this off as an "Ice event" and move on? Seriously? Whats the point of insurance? At least pay for the damages, my car was totaled and I lost a job. Multiple cars wrecked because of his wreckless driving. He spun around because he sped up to change lanes, he should've been driving more carefully in the conditions(which honestly were not that bad.)

They told me they're waiting on a police report. Its been 30 days... The cops did not seem to give half a shit when they were helping us, even saying "Yall are going to have to deal with this yourselves, we're to busy today."... So whens this police report coming and whats it even going to say? This is BS.

    Worth it going into claims?

    Posted: 01 Feb 2018 09:55 AM PST

I have a customer service and non profit background, but I am realizing that I while I live fairly comfortably and make ends meet, I'm not making "having a kid and a house" money. I'm also burned out at my company and don't feel like I have any opportunities for growth.

I love working under pressure and am highly detailed and quick on my feet. I have professional office experience. I would enjoy flexibility with my schedule if possible, even if it's just flexibility within my set hours (can take lunch and breaks when I want).

I have a phone interview coming up soon with Travelers as an Inside Auto Claim Trainee. Is the money worth it, or is it soul sucking and should I run away? I appreciate any insight :)

Car windshield damaged after being towed to be repaired.

    Posted: 01 Feb 2018 08:18 PM PST

So basically I was involved in an accident in Nov 2017. I was trying to merge onto a highway and a guy in a jeep rear-ended my 2013 Honda Accord Sport. Anyway, we exchanged information and I filed a report with the police. I drove my car home, but when I opened the trunk to get stuff out of it I couldn't close the trunk anymore and decided that it'd be best if a tow truck picked it up to take it to the repair shop. I coordinated with the guy's insurance company (which is USAA btw) to get the car towed to the repair shop. The car did not have a crack in the windshield when it left. After 3 weeks of being in the repair shop, I finally picked up the car with a crack in the windshield. I told the guy at the repair shop and he said it was brought here like that. He then told me it was probably the tow company because they tow it to a tow yard before they bring it to the shop. I called USAA and they directed me to the tow company's insurance to get the windshield replaced. I finally got in touch with the company only to be told my claim was denied "because the towing equipment was nowhere near the windshield" and "the damage wasn't noticed until 3 weeks after the tow." It's so unfair and I resent the fact that they said it wasn't noticed for 3 weeks. How would I notice it if it wasn't in my possession? I don't even have the money to get it fixed now on my own. I'm at a loss as to what to do. I need them to pay this claim. Any advice is appreciated!

Car has been in body shop for over a week, insurance not responding

    Posted: 01 Feb 2018 01:26 PM PST

My car has been sitting in the body shop for over a week now. 12 days and counting. The reason it's sitting there is because the insurance does not pick up their phone or respond to my emails or the emails/phone calls from the the body shop. Body shop is calling because they found more damages and are awaiting approval.

The insurance also is not approving a car rental for me for more than a day (due to their 1st estimation). Which yes makes sense if it was to only take a day, but I'm without a car right now because their lack of action.

    What options do I have?

Fiancée owns home, do I need renters insurance?

    Posted: 01 Feb 2018 07:33 AM PST

Moved in with my GF last year when she bought a house, now fiancée, and I rolled over my renters insurance for the time being. However now we're engaged so I'm wondering if I really still need it. It's only $100 so it's not a bank breaking issue, but I also don't want to spend the $100 if it's not needed.

Is there a way for my step dad to insure my car but I pay it myself?

    Posted: 01 Feb 2018 06:30 PM PST

So I live I'm Maryland and I'm getting ready to purchase my first car. However I keep getting insanely high insurance quotes, 500-600 a month!! I did find one quote for 215$ a month but I can't afford that. My step dad lives in Alabama with the rest of my family and obviously since he's an older adult his insurance would cost much less. Is there a way to put his name on the insurance for my car and I pay it instead of him? Any advice would be much appreciated.

Comprehensive insurance in a tort state, can I make a claim even though I'm at fault?

    Posted: 01 Feb 2018 10:32 AM PST

I misjudged a fence post. Now I have a healthy scrape on the truck. I live in Nevada. I have comprehensive insurance with a deductible of $250.

if I try to file a claim, because I'm at fault means I'm paying out of pocket?
