    Papers on Chinese credit risk

    Posted: 02 Jan 2018 04:50 PM PST

Does anyone have any papers that they found particularly interesting about a possible Chinese credit bubble/ banking crisis? I just read a paper from Crescat Capital (Kevin Smith) and would love to read more about it.

    Let's discuss Cattle Futures

    Posted: 02 Jan 2018 05:23 PM PST

Hey guys, I had a few questions on future contracts as investments if anyone could help clear up my understanding.

Let's say my thesis is that US Cattle is currently trading at a discount to what I believe it will be worth in June.

To make this type of trade would I simply go on CME and purchase the longest dated contracts (April) and then sell them if they appreciated in price before the expiration? I certainly wouldnt be able to take collection on the live stock so the concept seems a bit abstract as an outsider to futures.

Is the high/low limit setting a cap on my gains or loss or is this something entirely different?

Is the volume the max amount of contracts currently available, meaning for april the largest investment you could make is ~$16,750 (144 volume at last price of $116)

I apologize if these questions are a bit redundant but I appreciate any detail on how these type of trades work for non-farmers

    Calling all Healthcare Investors

    Posted: 02 Jan 2018 09:41 AM PST

I'm currently working on researching the Healthcare industry and gradually making it my circle of competence. After digging through Google I've picked up a few books and articles, however I have some scepticism about them as there aren't many reviews about these and they seem outdated. To make matters worse, there isn't generally a great deal of relevant information on the web.

I would be eternally grateful if some of you experienced individuals could recommend some works/books/sources of information about Healthcare/Biotech/Pharma investing that helped you in your understanding and work in the industry.

Alternatively, if you rather prefer I pm you, please let me know, as I'd be more than happy to talk. It would be most interesting to learn about your experience.

Thank you in advance and apologies to all who find this irrelevant.

credit card spending levels during a recession?

    Posted: 02 Jan 2018 11:23 AM PST

Does anyone have data or recommendations on where to get data on how much credit card spending drops during a recession? I'm not talking about balances outstanding (i.e. debt/how much isn't paid off at any moment), but rather, just dollar value of transactions. How much is actually spent on credit cards, that is (regardless of whether the blanches are paid off monthly or not).

Is the best proxy going to be looking at Visa or MasterCard's financials during the 2006-2011 time period?

    Valuation of Private Company (Startup)

    Posted: 02 Jan 2018 12:04 PM PST

How do you value a private company with no access to financials? Do you use precedent transactions? Or do you have to use qualitative factors such as market size, characteristics, competitive advantages etc. All I know is they received $2M through a seed round & $14M through a series A 6 months later.
