Where do I️ start on a stock analysis report?

    Posted: 09 Jan 2018 04:50 AM PST

I've been looking around this sub and others for examples of stock analysis reports. I'm trying to write a basic one to further my understanding of fundamental and technical analysis/how to go about writing one. There are so many different ways and things to analyze in a stock, it's overwhelming trying to begin. I've seen examples including more fundamental than technical, and vice versa. What do I️ include in a report and how do I️ format it? I️ think I️ may just be looking for pdfs and links to some simple few-paged ones if anyone has any. Thank you!

    SPY at this current moment

    Posted: 09 Jan 2018 09:13 AM PST

I've been holding SPY because I acknowledge that I'm too much of a beginner to put together a meaningful portfolio.

Last week, I ended up selling at 271.80, because at the time, the stock jumped 2% or so in a small amount of time. On average, SPY gains 2% monthly, so to me, it was a signal to sell and wait for the stock to move horizontal or down a bit.

But it hasn't stopped climbing! I even searched through daily gains. It's pretty rare for it to be positive this many days in a row. Moreover, the eyeball test tells me it's plain overvalued.

My conundrum is: how do I reenter safely? I'm thinking I should wait until it comes back to earth.

What’s the possibility of GoPro being bought out?

    Posted: 09 Jan 2018 08:12 AM PST

With a forecasted Q4 revenue to fall by 37%, price cuts on the Hero 6, abandoning the drone market and cutting 250 jobs and the COO and SVP resigning, is there any light at the end of the tunnel for the company to survive without an acquisition at this point? Are there any companies that could benefit from GoPros brand name value?

TDAmeritrade or Fidelity. ThinkOrSwim vs Active Trader Pro

    Posted: 09 Jan 2018 08:59 AM PST

Hello, I have been trying to get my TDAmeritrade account. However, as a foreign, this process has become quite cumbersome. Therefore, I was considering opening it in Fidelity, were it appears to be an easier procedure. For me, the most important variables to consider are:

    1. the trading platform (especially number of technical indicators),
    2. fees (because lower fees allows me to do more trading since my starting account will not be considerably large),
    3. service.

¿Do you think ToS is considerably better than ATP? ¿What has been your personal experience with any both?

    Today's data missing for JHMI

    Posted: 09 Jan 2018 08:52 AM PST

Some day I will stop saying "I'm new", but it is not this day.

I'm new. Can anyone tell me why JHMI isn't posting any numbers for today. It is a big question mark in my portfolio. Is this sort of thing common?

Just sold NFLX for tiny profit after buying a week ago.. Bad or good move?

    Posted: 09 Jan 2018 07:50 AM PST

So I bought NFLX a week ago and just sold it for a very small profit, I can't quite place my finger on it but I just didn't get a good feeling holding on to it through earnings, and the sentiment doesn't seem quite positive and I don't know, just got bad vibes overall..

Did I do the right thing? It just seems like NFLX was so overbought and it would have to have a mind blowing earnings announcement to go higher. Thoughts?

How much capitol is too little?

    Posted: 09 Jan 2018 01:37 PM PST

Hey everyone, absolute clueless idiot here. Last week I opened up an RH account and put in $50 to get my feet wet with trading stocks, the market in general, looking at graphs, etc. So far its been insanely fun and rewarding (managing a return on my investments I've picked on gut feeling). However I feel like playing around with only 50$ is giving me limited exposure. Do you think it would be worthwhile to put in more capitol? This money is 100% liquid and I wouldnt be upset if I managed to lose it all. I want to begin learning how to do stock analysis etc instead of just picking companies I know of and trust in. However, I currently can only buy maybe a few stocks at the most. Thanks for any input!

    Also I'm holding $AMD, $GME, and a tiny company called $TMQ

Stock rise fueled by QE, low interest rates, and Central Banks buying equities?

    Posted: 09 Jan 2018 01:15 PM PST

This is a DISCUSSION! Please know moreover, that this isn't a conspiracy theory. It's information available readily online, that Central Bank balance sheets have increased substantially in the last 10 years (ECB, Japanese CB, SNB, and Fed), and that interest rates are super low (common knowledge), and that SOME (not all) central banks are buying equities. Off the top of my head, ECB, Japan, and SNB buy equities.

The reason for this is supposedly to act as a diversification tool for central banks who are overexposed to government debt, but lets not get into politics or speculation.

What I want to discuss is whether the stock market rise can be attributed to these central bank factors as much as (if not more than) the growth of global economies. Moreover, how long do you think this behavior will continue? Technically indefinitely as central banks can "print" money, but can they really keep doing this in a practical manner?

P.S For what it's worth, I think that the rise in global equities IS mostly due to central banks except for 2017, when economies actually were undergoing great growth and corporates were posting great earnings.

Why is the stock chart for ETrade different then YahooFinanace?

    Posted: 09 Jan 2018 09:19 AM PST

ETrade has TWMJF at 33.25 right now and YahooFinanace has it at 30.76.

I was trying to buy some at 30.9 but my trade didn't go through because I was buying with ETrade but looking at the YF chart. The odd thing is that the price is going in opposite directions! One is dropping the other rising. It's like looking at two completely different stocks. I know its the same stock because they are both Canopy Growth Corp.

    Hydrogen stocks?

    Posted: 09 Jan 2018 01:01 PM PST

I've been looking into hydrogen stocks lately, my main interest is BLDP. Anyone have any experience with the stock, or have any other hydrogen related stocks you see potential in. It would be a very long hold, but I think hydrogen is the future. Agree, disagree? Thanks reddit!

    Thoughts on IBM?

    Posted: 09 Jan 2018 12:24 PM PST

At the start of the year, I thought it is a great value stock (when it is ~158), but having to wait for the fund transfer into my trading account, I feel that I have missed the boat.

Now at ~164 I feel that I am not getting a bargain out of it, and should just explore other options in my watchlist.

What are your thoughts on this stock? Do you think 164 is still undervalued? (or do you even think it was undervalued in the first place when it was at 158?)

    Thoughts on TREE?

    Posted: 09 Jan 2018 11:59 AM PST

I recently started getting into stocks (about three months) and I'm heavy into tech (NVDA and SQ). I'm trying to add stocks in other areas like finance. I could invest in a safer stock like V, or can take a risk. I haven't been able to find much about TREE which is surprising with the stocks growth over the last year. Wondering what everyone thinks about it.

$MDXG Biotech firm that specializes in human amniotic tissue.

    Posted: 09 Jan 2018 11:56 AM PST

This stock has gone under some serious threat lately. It has had an illegal short selling fiasco, settlements with employees, and a decrease from its 52 week high of around 17. Its at $14.8 right now after improving on Q4 estimates, along with improving revenues by 32%.

Any thoughts here? I think it will return to 52 week high levels at 17 easily and could go higher.

Taxes if unemployed but filing jointly

    Posted: 09 Jan 2018 08:01 AM PST

If I am a stay-at-home mom playing around with stocks and sell within a year of purchasing the stocks I understand those would be taxed as short-term capital gains. If I were working I understand it would be at whatever tax bracket I would be filing as. But since I don't have any income does it just go off of my husband's income because we're filing jointly?
