Thoughts on possible Amazon acquisition of Target?

    Posted: 02 Jan 2018 10:41 AM PST

Hey guys, I've been reading some news articles about talks of Amazon acquiring some, if not all, of Target because they like their retail setup and believe target could be a good partner for their retail ventures.

What do you guys think this will do for the value of Target? They're already up ~3.5% on the day but that's just anticipation. Also, when they acquired Whole Foods, they did a total buyout and purchased all of the shares back from owners. Do you guys think this total buyout a possibility if this acquisition comes to fruition?

Note: I'm not investing in anything, I'm an economics major who's just interested in how the market works.

Petroplex Savings Association shares worth anything?

    Posted: 02 Jan 2018 09:57 AM PST

I've recently found 10 shares each in my name and my deceased father's name as I was cleaning out old documents. From Google it looks like Petroplex Savings Association was ultimately merged/bought by Citibank. Are these worth anything? Any ideas on how to track down their worth and how to cash them in? I asked this in /r/personalfinance and they recommended I post here too.

Received portfolio that hasn't been updated in years. Need to reorganize. Should I sell and wait or buy?

    Posted: 02 Jan 2018 10:43 AM PST

Looking for some advice. Pretty much, I got control of a portfolio that hasn't been updated in years. Some good, some bad. My goal is to sell some of the stocks that I don't like, and buy ones that I do. Is it a bad time to buy because the market is high? Should I sell, hold the cash, and then buy at a better/later time? I am looking for general opinions on if I should reorganize the portfolio now or wait until a dip and buy back in then.

I'm 25 if that helps with a time frame, but may be using some of the funds for education in the next 5 years.

    Short ratio and squeeze

    Posted: 02 Jan 2018 10:14 AM PST

What's considered a good stock candidate for a short squeeze? At what number on short ratio? For example, I was looking at 2 stocks. First one has short ratio of 7.17 and 13.71% of float. Second stock has short ratio of 32.06 and 23.03% of float. Which of these two will likely have a short squeeze?

I'm up 250% on weed stocks

The HMMJ is up 11% today. If you haven't invested in weed stocks, you should do some DD on it.

HVST, QCC, ISOL, IMH, WEED, ACB, APH, N, MPX, GHL, GHG to name a few.

If it's too risky for you. You might consider adding 5% to 10% to your portfolio and allocate accordingly.

    Question about sell orders.

    Posted: 02 Jan 2018 07:31 AM PST

I had put an order for sale for a certain stock i owned this morning at .42 cents (19051 shares). My mother put the same stock for sale at .42 cents (15000 shares) after I had put my order in. Now her order completely filled whereas mine is still only partially filled (51 shares filled). How does the market determine whos shares are sold first? I was always under the impression that whoever put the order in first had priority over the later orders, but apparently im way off. Could someone explain how this works? Please and Thank you.

I am a high school student looking to get started! I really want to buy my first share on the stock market, but I don't know which company to buy it in. Do you guys have any recommendations? I am currently doing a stock simulation and here (https://imgur.com/a/F5D7z) are some of the results I have been able to produce. I want to get started at a young age since I seek a career in business.

Edit: I was looking at SBUX

Thanks in advance for any recommendations!

    Question for Experienced Traders

    Posted: 01 Jan 2018 06:11 PM PST

Hello, I was hoping someone could answer a couple quick questions:

I use Merrill Edge as a broker and always have, since it is very convenient to use through BoA and I don't seem to pay any fees for buying stocks. Why is ME never mentioned as a broker/why don't people like it? I see people saying they have to pay fees (albeit very low) for stocks through other brokers, so isn't that a huge perk from ME? I'm very open to switching over to RH or something if it's substantially better.

Secondly, this may a flaw only with ME, but do you HAVE to only use a limit order to buy low-security (i.e. penny) stocks? This is annoying because I'm trying to purchase TRTC before the market opens, but I can't buy at the market value, as I am assuming this stock is going to shoot up. Is there a way to snag it now, if I put in a limit above it would likely just shoot up past it like it has for me in the past.

Thanks for the help, trying to get more knowledgeable about everything.

Wall St seems to think this stock is fairly priced or undervalued due to its explosive growth. Anyone here agree with this opinion or can justify this level of optimism?

    TOL DD

    Posted: 02 Jan 2018 08:21 AM PST

Toll Brothers is a midcap residential construction company. I like them for a few reasons:

    • Low P/E and forward P/E compared to sector. P/E is 15.10 and forward P/E is 12.07 vs 25.87 and 20.43 sector average respectively.
    • Sales and EPS growth. EPS is up 74.7% quarter of quarter, year over year. Sales up 9.3 percent.
    • Debt to equity ration under 1.
    • Bullish chart pattern. Maintaining trendline support in an upward channel.

Anecdotally, in my area, they're putting up new developments left and right. Their homes are gorgeous and in-demand.

Any thoughts? I know it's a scary time to put money in the housing market, but I think this company can maintain it's growth over the next 2-5 years.

Macro Outlook: Huge Q1 2018 Update

    Posted: 02 Jan 2018 12:02 PM PST

Barring some supply-side shock to the economy, it's likely that the business cycle in the US persists for at least another two years. Low interest rates and quantitative easing (QE) in the EU combined with improving private consumption is likely to help support the economy through the end of the decade.

As a whole, most developed economies are working around their expected capacities, recession risks are low, and central banks are either in full ZIRP/QE mode (ECB, BOJ) or just removing liquidity from the system and raising short-term borrowing rates (Fed).

The Phillips curve relationship that dictated past economic cycles has weakened as technology and globalization impact labor markets. Typically, as labor scarcity increases, workers can bargain for higher wages, with the extra wage costs passed off by corporations as higher prices, inducing inflation (i.e., monetary demand in excess of product and service output).

Author runs through a variety of different sectors, countries, currencies, and asset classes as it pertains to the general outlook and his personal thoughts on each.

[This is a long long read, but make sure you have the overall idea]
