Does Medicaid cover you until you have to reapply? Insurance

Does Medicaid cover you until you have to reapply? Insurance

Does Medicaid cover you until you have to reapply?

    Posted: 08 Jan 2018 04:17 AM PST

I live in PA, and just moved to full-time employment; however, my insurance doesn't kick in until 90 days, which will be late February. My question is, does it immediately terminate when you're above the income guidelines, or does it keep on until you have to reapply/work insurance kicks in? I can't find this info anywhere.

Just found out my employer-subsidized life insurance only covers fairly sudden deaths - question(s) about other options

    Posted: 08 Jan 2018 12:25 AM PST

While enrolling in annual employer benefits this year, I found out the life insurance I get via my employer terminates as soon as I'm no longer employed, which would be 31 days after getting sick/disabled. So if I did get sick or in an accident that resulted in my death 32 or more days later, I'd have no life insurance.

My question is, what are my options for types of life insurance that I can get that are more reliable. Right now I'm a fairly healthy mid-30's male, I'd like to "lock-in" some kind of policy that would cover me if, say, I get diagnosed with cancer 5 years from now, and then die from it 3 years after that. So some kind of policy that can't be canceled due to new medical conditions, and that they also can't raise the rates due to those conditions, which is really the same thing as canceling it.

Does anything like that exist? Thanks!

If it matters, I'm in NC, USA, and the insurance would go 100% to my wife.

Questions about how insurance does things post accident as the alleged at fault.

    Posted: 07 Jan 2018 03:31 PM PST

I've had State Farm for probably 3-4 years now. I got into an accident February 2016. The other party also has State Farm. I moved recently and my insurance rates went up 30% due to the move. I went to an independent insurance agent to see if I could get a better deal. My policy renews in October and April, the case setted mid August. Both of us had State Farm so State Farm was paying no matter who was at fault. I asked my attorney if I was considered at fault for insurance purposes and he said he didnt know. My most recent policy renewal from October has the good driving discount intact. The independent agent asked if I was at fault. I still dont know, but she said there is a claim against me in whatever system they used. As of now my good driver discount is intact which goes against the claim. An agent I spoke to at the office who wrote my policy said I was found at fault in March 2016. When I asked why all she said was "You hit a pedestrian" with no further details giving the impression that pedestrians are always innocent and under no obligation to follow any laws. The incident occured when I was turning left a pedestrian was forward and left of my vehicle. The road was one lane each way with a right turn lane in the center. He was roughly on the line between the center lane and the lane furthest from me with traffic going from right to left. The A pillar was blocking him from my view until I was right on top of him and couldnt stop. My car rolled over one of his feet an then he attempted to walk away immediately. (Sometimes I wish I had let him go as I feel like maybe State Farm would have denied his claim for being an idiot and walking away after allegedly getting run over. My ticket was dismissed in court due to lack of witnesses. Incident report says I was stopped at stop sign and pedestrian was in the road illegally. This leaves me with many questions: If I was found at fault, why was I never notified? If I was at fault as of March 2016, why didnt my rates go up any time in the last 2 years? Lastly, is there anyway to find out how State Farm came to this decision? It doesnt make any sense to me. At least now I know my insurance will only go up for 1-3 years depending on company, because this dragged on so long.

Total Loss and PIP auto insurance question

    Posted: 07 Jan 2018 11:37 PM PST

So on Christmas Eve, I lost control of my moms car and the car resulted in a total loss. Nobody else was involved in the accident besides myself. Airbags deployed and I was hospitalized with a broken nose being the only injury. All the medical expenses went under the car insurance but now I seem to find myself in an issue. Here's a break down of everything

The car: registered under my mother's name, car insurance covers both my parents.

Myself: Currently living in a basement apartment, my license has my mailing address which is my parents house. Insurance thinks I live with my parents because of this and will refuse to cover any medical expenses and the total loss due to the fact that my name was not under the policy as a household member. (Although I'm not)

The only thing I have is a few rent receipts, I don't get anything delivered to where I live since it's a very shady place with very shady tenants. Every time I enter an address it's my parents house since it's in a quiet area and they can hold things for me since I fly out of state for work sometimes as well. That being said, NOTHING is under my living address, I also move frequently so it was best to keep everything under a steady address.

I currently don't have health insurance either. I'm in the middle of a job transition and this is the last month of my probation period before I get to enroll for my employers insurance.

From my understanding, being a permissive driver, they would cover the total loss as well as my medical expenses but only up to the state legal limit (NJ).

I haven't called or dealt with the insurance because I'm afraid as to how this will go. I'm sure the medical expenses are within the tens of thousands of $ which I can't afford and $6000 is also owed on the car as well. How Can I go about getting all of this resolved in the best way possible?

    Thanks in advanced!

    $9k Dermatology Ointment Claim

    Posted: 07 Jan 2018 09:38 AM PST

I just found a completed insurance claim for a cream my dermatologist prescribed that was billed for +$9,000 and will cost me $1,600. This was supposed to be mailed to me, and I've yet to receive it.

I absolutely do not want this medicine, and I wasn't told of the costs up front. I'm not sure if it requires signature delivery; am I able to refuse delivery if it does? If it does deliver without my signature, am I able to return it? Do I have any options?

Dumb question about employer life insurance

    Posted: 07 Jan 2018 06:34 PM PST

A good lifelong friend of mine put me down as the beneficiary on his employer-provided life insurance. He has no family, children, significant others, and is a bit of a shut-in.

However, he does have a wife he hasn't seen in 20 years in another state. They're both just ... bad at adulting.

If he died, would that insurance go to her?

    Disclaimers:

    1) He's my friend, not my child. I can't make him get his divorce taken care of. You can make fun of him if you want, but don't bother trying to shame me about it. I've pointed out to him how dumb it is, financially. Otherwise, not my circus, not my monkeys.

    2) I have a good household income and my own retirement funds. I'm ambivalent at best about the policy. I'm just intellectually curious if someone can even designate a non-spouse as a beneficiary if they're legally married.

Does my Aflac policy cover paternity leave?

    Posted: 07 Jan 2018 09:58 PM PST

Hello all, My girlfriend and I are expecting our first child any day now. (For clarification: We are not married, but we are living in the same house).

I work for the State Government and we don't pay into the State Disability Program (we don't even get the option to), so I am not eligible for the State Disability program for any part of my lost wages while I'm on paternity leave after the child is born.

However, I do have a "Short Term Disability Policy", "Hospital Confinement Indemnity Policy", and "Accident Policy" from Aflac. (I'm the only person on the policy... my girlfriend is not on it, or any of my other policies as she has her own insurance and everything else through her employer).

I'm reading through all my paperwork on the above policies and I really don't understand any of it. I do see something that a newborn defendant child is covered under the policy at birth and up to 30 days after birth, then you have to have them added as a dependent to the policy. I've tried reaching out to my Aflac representative but can't get a hold of her.

I know there's most likely nothing under the "Accident Policy" that will cover this. But is there anything under the "Short Term Disability Policy" or the "Hospital Confinement Indemnity Policy" that will?

[NJ] My employer has been taking money for health insurance, but my plan has been terminated for 5 months. What should I do?

    Posted: 07 Jan 2018 09:55 AM PST

I started a new job in June and I enrolled for health insurance in July. I've received paper work and a health insurance card for my new insurance. I found out my health insurance was terminated at the end of July, but I've still been paying for it with each pay check. My coworker who is also insured through the employer also had her health insurance terminated the same day. I let my manager know when I knew (last month) and the manager talked to the owner (it's a small company), but it's been ignored.

I plan to speak to the owner about this when I see him this week. I want to see if I can have my plan canceled, be reimbursed the thousand dollars I put into health insurance that I am not receiving and be re-enrolled for this new year. I believe they might try to reinstate my insurance back to July, but at this point I don't have any health bills, and I'd rather have my money back.

I would just like to know what my options are and how I should handle this. I work for an apartment complex in New Jersey.

CA Car Insurance: My Car is Totalled, but a Gap in Coverage Will Raise My Rates

    Posted: 07 Jan 2018 04:12 PM PST

My car was totalled in an accident that was deemed my fault. (My car was T-boned on the driver's side by a speeding driver in a residential area but I had a stop sign and he didn't.) I currently have no car, and I don't know when I will be able to afford another one, although I might be able to get one in the next few months. I'm told that if I cancel my policy, my future rates will double (on top on what they will already rise to due to the accident). I live alone, and don't have anyone I can ask to be added to their policy. So now I am panicking and wondering if there is anything I can do to mitigate the situation. My current insurance provider, E-Surance, said I could stay with them and pay a $50/month fee for up to three months for a policy that covers me for liability while driving a car I don't own.

I am trying to figure out if that would be worth it, in terms of what it would save me on future rates. Any advice? Thank you so much.

Collision advise - pay out of pocket or go through insurance...?

    Posted: 07 Jan 2018 05:03 PM PST

Kind of a noob at this stuff, could use some help. Just got in a fender bender the other day, my car took the brunt of the damage. Got a couple estimates - $3500 at the dealership and a couple body shops quoted at $1900 and $2000. My deductible is $500. It's a 2015 Subaru Impreza so nothing super fancy or complicated about the repairs.

My question is, do I use the body shop and pay out of pocket or do I go through insurance at the dealer? For a bit of background, this is my 2nd at fault accident in the last couple months (my insurance is already paying for the repairs on the other vehicles - a busted up bumper in one and a couple scratches in the other). Also my third at-fault accident within the last 3 years. I also have 3-4 tickets in the past few years (1 speeding, a couple improper turns, and an "improper lane usage" associated with one of the accidents).

Does it make more sense to pay out of pocket or go through insurance? I'm not super wealthy or anything but I can afford the repairs out of liquid savings.

    Home Inventory App/Software

    Posted: 07 Jan 2018 08:08 AM PST

Does anyone have a recommendation for a good home inventory app/software? Looking around the web, it seems that the top Google results are all pretty old. The one web based solution, HomeZada, is both slow and seems a whole home management solution that's overkill for simple inventory needs.

I'd like to do an inventory because I realize I'm accumulating a lot of stuff and would like to keep track of it in the event of a claim event, and to judge if my contents coverage is adequate.

    Auto insurance policy question

    Posted: 07 Jan 2018 02:37 PM PST

I have an auto policy with State Farm and so did my husband prior to our marriage. When we got married, I tried to get our policies combined in order to save money so we're not paying for 2 policies. I was told I had to transfer his current policy from Agent A's office to Agent B's office (Agent B is the closest to us). After spending a month dealing with this, we finally got his policy to Agent B. I'm told that they "dont combine policies" but that I would qualify for more discounts such as multi vehicles, etc. I just called and the premiums on my vehicle have gone up and my husband's premiums are the same. Basically we would still be paying for two policies, is this right? I feel like I'm being swindled.
