How to filter investment ideas (more) swiftly Posted: 07 Jan 2018 02:29 PM PST I am still in the process of filtering investment ideas and IMO it just takes me too long. Do you simply look at ratios or what is your process in saying goodbye to potential investments sooner than later? How long does it take you to filter an idea? Appreciate any practical advice from investors [link] [comments] |
Canadians, where do you get your data from? Posted: 07 Jan 2018 01:49 PM PST I'm trying to do a DCF on a Canadian company and I'm currently at the bit where I need to come up with a Beta. I'm using the 'bottom up beta' approach as taught in Aswath Damodaran's class. His method involves finding lots of betas for companies in the same business and taking the average. The problem is that when I check these companies through my RBC direct investing portal they're wildly different from what I find on tmxmoney. The Morningstar reports available to me through RBC sometimes don't even have a Beta, but then they do on tmxmoney. I'm not about to shell out for a Bloomberg terminal, and it's also not really feasible to run a regression on ten companies. I found a cool, cheaper Bloomberg alternative called Money.net that gives you two weeks free, but it only lists the OTC counterparts of the stocks and not the TSX listings. Most of those don't show a beta either. So, what do you guys use and where should I go to get reliable information? [link] [comments] |
