Tried to get into left lane, not enough room

I sustained some heavy damage, something I'll be getting fixed later tomorrow, we've traded information, police came but no citation or report was given, we've filed claims etc. Considering this is my first accident, what will happen next? What will the insurance companies do? There was previous damage to his bumper before.

My car was deemed a total loss today due to an engine fire. I have gap insurance as well, and honestly I'm just confused about how this whole thing works

    Posted: 30 Jan 2018 01:41 PM PST

Long story short, the engine on my 2014 Dodge Dart randomly caught on fire last week and was engulfed in flames. The adjuster deemed it a total loss yesterday, and my insurance company called today with a figure of $9,000. I still owe $12,000 on the car and have a $500 deductible, and I have gap insurance as well. I'm just lost on what happens next. Will I have to pay anything on my remaining car loan or does gap take care of that? Or do I get to use the full $9,000 on buying a new car? Insurance just confuses the hell out of me, sorry for the noob question.

    USAA total loss retention question

    Posted: 30 Jan 2018 06:21 PM PST

So I got into a fender bender with someone who admitted fault. Their insurance (USAA) deemed my vehicle a total loss. Its all cosmetic damage that I dont really care about so I want to keep the vehicle. A representative still wants me to sign the seller part of my title and send it to them. Is this normal? Im calling back tomorrow before I do it to be safe but I would just like other opinions.

Got into a minor fendor bender. 2 weeks later, the other party is hiring a lawyer for for bodily injury. What gives

    Posted: 30 Jan 2018 09:52 AM PST

2 weeks ago, I got into a minor accident with another car. It was my fault. Anyways, the damage didn't look like much to the other car, and I offered to initially pay out of pocket if the costs were not high. 2 days later, their tune completely changed, apparently, now they had axel damage, windows don't work anymore, and a rental car etc etc and cost of repairs was above $4k.

I decided not to play that game and talked to my insurance, which promptly had their car inspected and paid out $1 for their repairs. Today I find out they are hiring lawyers for bodily injury, which I smell as complete BS. I do have sufficient coverage for most items, but I am curious as to what's the best way to navigate this?

    Driving without insurance...Parking lot?

    Posted: 30 Jan 2018 08:58 PM PST

    Hi everyone,

I am currently back in the states (California) visiting family and would like to learn how to drive a manual transmission vehicle while I am here. However, I do not have car insurance anymore since I moved. I do still have my license. I will be asking a friend with a manual car to teach me in a parking lot - is this ok?

Also, if anyone happens to know, is there a way to get temporary car insurance while I am here for like a month?

    Thanks :)

    CCC One touch for tablets

    Posted: 30 Jan 2018 08:49 PM PST

Has CCC given this the ability to lock an estimate, create a supplement, or condition and run a valuation? It's been a few years since I tried it and at the time none of these features were available.

Open enrollment vs Qualifying life event

    Posted: 30 Jan 2018 08:11 PM PST

This is in AZ if that matters. My HR at work is giving me info that just seems wrong. I am getting married 3 days before our open enrollment closes, but they said that they cant add anyone to the insurance without a certified copy of the marriage license. HR then said that the marriage does not trigger a special enrollment period because the change will happen during open enrollment.

The issue is that I was told when we picked up the license that certified copies would not be available for at least a week after the courthouse received the license back. So there is no way to get a copy in time.

I sent an email asking how to get out of that trap, but was told that I would be able to add her during the next open enrollment, a YEAR later. This just doesn't seem to pass the sniff test

I a insured driver am at fault for hitting a insured car but driver isn't on the insurance

    Posted: 30 Jan 2018 07:59 PM PST

This just happened less than a hour ago within Chicago, IL. I rear ended her car coming from a lot onto a street where she was making a left turn. We traded info and cars had less than 1k of damage. I notice after the incident that the driver's name isn't on the insurance. Though I will claim fault because I am. What is likely to happen?

How do I find insurance right for me in Louisiana without a job that offers it?

Insurance company refuses to pay for treatment, instead offers damaging and cheap alternative advice?

    Posted: 30 Jan 2018 12:10 PM PST

So my mom had a cyst and was operated on to get it removed. Long story short and simple, she has a growth and she now needs treatment.

So shes on my step dads insurance plan which he gets from his work. Usually when this has happend in the past they put her on monthly injections which cost about $75 each, they stated the treatment and the insurance company refused to pay up, giving no details saying the claim was rejected. Well after jumping through hoops and a massive amount of paperwork, they finally gave us an alternative treatment. Its a tablet which you take 3 times a day for 6 months and a known side affect is bone weakening. Yup, they're throwing pills down her throat and giving her Osteogenesis because its cheaper.

My question is can they do this? Are there steps that can be taken in a situation like this? Would this even be worth fighting for? Should we take the treatment or go for an alternative? I have absolutely no clue where to go from here.

    Car Accident, who’s at fault?

    Posted: 30 Jan 2018 05:57 PM PST

I was driving down a one lane street with a median, going about 30mph. A large truck pulls out of nowhere from a right side street, trying to go across the small median to turn left. I wasn't able to brake in time and t-boned him.

Some witnesses claim he blew past a stop sign on the side street, but they were homeless and left when the police arrived. He claims that he was trying to make a "wide uturn" and that I was right behind him and knew what he was doing. But I wasn't anywhere near his car! I had been at a red light a block beforehand and was the first car in line. Also, I wouldn't have been able to hit him dead center if he was turning left. I'm worried because the police wouldn't confirm fault on either side because only my front right bumper/hood was damaged. I don't know why that happened, maybe because I swerved a little? The car was leaking fluid and had to be towed because it wouldn't drive. I'm really worried about the cost of repair.

    Was I at fault here??

Geico is telling me to open a claim under my own policy

    Posted: 30 Jan 2018 05:27 PM PST

    Hello guys,

A few days ago I was involved in a multiple vehicle crash. I was waiting in a red light when CAR 1 came and hit CAR 2 behind me causing them to then hit me.

The adjuster of CAR 1 has already claimed responsibility and CAR 1 also received a ticket by the police officer.

CAR 2 was deemed total loss.

The problem is that apparently CAR 1's insurance, GEICO which is the same as mine, says that his policy only covers $10,000. They estimate that CAR 2 will be paid around $7,000 excluding the daily rentals and everything else, totaling over $9,000 and leaving me in the blank.

The adjuster handling CAR 1's insurance suggested that I go through my own policy, something I don't want to do since they can't guarantee that my premium will go up.

What do you guys recommend I do? Why is it that CAR 2 is getting most of the money and leaving me with no coverage?

Comprehensive insurance on a parked car.

    Posted: 30 Jan 2018 04:48 PM PST

To my understanding comprehensive covers most instances when your car is parked and you have no control over the vehicle. I have comprehensive but not full coverage. So my question is does it cover a car hitting yours while it's parked and they run off?

Do I keep my Dental insurance if I leave my job?

    Posted: 30 Jan 2018 04:40 PM PST

Hello everyone! I started a new job around a year ago and think it's about time to move on (I graduated!).

I'm looking for a new position but am worried about losing my dental insurance (in case my new job doesn't have it).

So would I lose it? I'd be willing to continue making my monthly payments but I don't know if that will even be an option.

Can anyone offer insight? It's Delta Dental PPO and I'm in California.

Thank you very much for any and all insight you can offer. I'm grateful for any help you guys can give.

CCC market report question - condition adjustment

    Posted: 30 Jan 2018 12:09 PM PST

Is it standard to have each comp vehicle have a dollar amount taken off for "condition adjustment". I was given a report by USAA that says my condition of my vehicle is in good or very good condition among the components but at the bottom of each comp is a adjustment of -1280 for "condition". Is that a normal fee that most people are adjusted for? Insurance says its a fee they can charge to adjust my vehicle so that it's showroom ready. I think that's a bogus charge as it's 20% of the value!

NJ - no points moving violation rate increase?

    Posted: 30 Jan 2018 03:03 PM PST

Hello, I was pulled over for a 2 point ticket that can be plead down to a no point higher fine ticket in NJ, 39:4–97.2

Driving in an unsafe manner (points only for third or subsequent offense within five years of most recent 39:4-97.2 conviction)

However, this is still a moving violation. Will I get the same insurance rate increase if I take the Unsafe Driving plea as the 2 point ticket?

This would be my second time pleading to the Unsafe Driving ticket.

I have not yet taken the NJ driving safely class which removes 2 points from your license.

My insurance is allstate. Thank you.

Bought my SO a car in her name, can I insure it under my policy?

    Posted: 30 Jan 2018 07:46 AM PST

Edit: It looks like her car is listed with her as a registered owner, so past me was more on top of it than I thought. I think I'm good.

I have car insurance through Geico. I bought my long time SO a car worth around 3300 and we titled it in her name alone. I added it to my existing policy with my car. She's always been an insured driver on my car, and I've added both of us as drivers on the "new" car. Are we covered correctly? We have a decent amount of liability and full coverage on both cars with a 750 deductible. I pay around $150/mo.

I'm mostly worried about having the car in her name, but on my insurance. The internet indicates "maybe." One of the criteria is whether I would be financially impacted by the loss of the vehicle. I would be, since we are a household, and I am the primary/sole bread winner.

    I'm 27, she's 25, and we live in Nebraska.

    Thanks!

If i had a car accident and nobody else was involved (only my vehicle was damaged), do I still need to report this to my auto insurance if I'm not making a claim?

    Posted: 30 Jan 2018 09:07 AM PST

Drove my car into an off-ramp railing on Saturday :( Beat up the side of my car and also put a nice hole my bumper. Repairs are in the ballpark of $1000-1400, thinking I won't make an insurance claim because I don't want my premium to go up - worried it won't be worth it. This is my first car ever and I've only had it (and the insurance) for 3 months. I spoke to a police officer that day and he said I didn't have to file a police report.

Do i still need to report this incident to my insurance company?

When it comes time to renew my insurance and the form asks me if I've been in an accident or not, what do I say? Is it yes, or only yes if I made a claim?

Bonus question: about 2 weeks ago my car got hit by another car and the driver drove off, I filed a police report for that one the same night. Some scratches on my bumper - but that will get taken care of with the repairs done for the situation above since I need a whole new bumper anyway. Does this case need to be reported to insurance?

Thanks. I have no idea what I'm doing.

Question about aging out of parents' insurance - complicated situation.

    Posted: 30 Jan 2018 12:31 PM PST

I am turning 26 in March so I am losing insurance coverage at the end of that month. I currently have a full time job which provides health insurance (however, it is a religious employer that won't cover a medication I'm on).

But, I am also a graduate student and am planning to leave this job in May to spend June-August finishing up my last classes and my thesis. During this time I will have no job. I have a full-time job waiting for me upon graduation that will supply insurance.

My current plan is to go through the Marketplace to purchase a plan when I age out in March. I understand that I won't be eligible for any tax relief or discount because I have the option for employer insurance but am not taking it. Does that change when I leave my job in May? I want to avoid enrolling in my employer insurance for two months and then having to use a Marketplace plan. I'm an admin making little money in a high cost area so using COBRA or my school insurance is too expensive.

Any advice anyone might have is helpful!

(Canada) Third Party Insurance Writing Off Vehicle - Request for Re-evaluation?

    Posted: 30 Jan 2018 12:29 PM PST

Hey folks - first time posting on this subreddit and looking for some advice!

I was recently involved in a vehicle collision where the third party driver ran into my vehicle. The insurance companies have both determined that the third party was as fault.

Very recently, they have assessed my vehicle and determined that the write off price was approximately $1300 CAD.

Now my car was an older car, a 'winter beater'. That being said though, it ran great - while it had 260K km on it, the engine had life for another 75-80K in it.

$1300 CAD does not buy me a vehicle that will be as reliable as the one that I had - am I able to contest the evaluation of the third-party insurance or ask for more?

Why is Husband's car insurance so high?

    Posted: 30 Jan 2018 12:12 PM PST

I'm trying to figure out why my husband has such a high insurance payment each month. He's 27 years old, never had a ticket or an accident, doesn't drive a super nice or expensive car, yet his insurance payment is almost 400 dollars a month. In contrast to me, a 30 year old female with multiple tickets, wrecks, even a dui 10 years ago and mine is 100 a month. It just doesn't make sense to me. Theres got to be a missing piece we are not getting. If that's just how it is, what can we do to make it go lower?

(USA) - Filing a collision claim 43 days after comprehensive claim?...what effects can I expect on my policy?

    Posted: 30 Jan 2018 11:56 AM PST

    Hi guys,

Using a throwaway for obvious reasons but today my car slid into a small rocky ditch. I have insurance from Progressive. Deductible for Comprehensive and Collision is 500 bucks.

It was able to be pulled out and driven away but the front bumper is pulled away from the rest of the car a bit where the ends meet the fenders/inner wheel wells, there's scuffs to it, the steering wheel shakes slightly when not held and going straight, the underside rail where you'd jack it up is scraped free of undercoat, etc.

I went to a body shop to try and get a estimate and they wanted 800 bucks minimum to replace the bumper but added that if they find more hidden damage the total would ramp up. :/

43 days ago I filed a comprehensive claim after a deer hit my left fender and doors. I just got my car back from the insurance center Jan 4th.

If I file a claim for this, will my rates go up? Will I get kicked off of my insurance and forced onto high-risk stuff?

I do have both large and small accident forgiveness but I assume that my previous claim used this up?

Can I have TWO different types of health insurance?

    Posted: 30 Jan 2018 11:37 AM PST

I recently moved away from home, but before I did, I renewed my Medicaid insurance (UHC). 3 months later, I got a new job, and insurance coverage through my new job starts in a few days.

Will I automatically lose my Medicaid coverage upon getting accepted for a new insurance? I'm not actually sure how long this job will last, and I've only been working 6-hour weeks. So I'm also not making good money. But, using my Medicaid, I've also been going through some tests to figure out what's been causing some health issues, and they are still ongoing.

I just want to be able to keep my options open with insurance, and make sure I don't lose my ability to care for myself so suddenly. Will I lose it? Or will I be able to stay on it until the next renewal period?

    Thank you in advance.
