As the title says, its a building with a bathroom and everything and is ready to be used as a salon. The previous owner used it under the radar but I refuse to base her income on other people looking the other way. How can I find out how to make this legit? Im in Alabama.

Thoughts on working for the competition

    Posted: 08 Dec 2017 05:41 PM PST

Ive been working with my current employer for a while now. I plan on working with him longer. He's a small business owner himself. He owns the shop we currently both work at, Plus has other ventures as well.

I enjoy working for him, and I'm learning lots from him, both business practice and skills to use in my future endeavors.

At some point, I'd like to start my own business, and it's likely he and I would be in competition with each other. And as it stands, I'd likely start my business part-time, while still working for him.

Should I talk to him before? As a professional curtesy, I would consider letting him know before I start my business. And I would make it a point to not conduct my business when I'm on the clock with him, or on his property.

Has anyone else started a business this way? Or have you had an employee turn into a competitor in the same market?

I have to fire someone today

    Posted: 08 Dec 2017 07:39 AM PST

I'm legitimately terrified. I've never had to do this before. I've taken advice from all of the business owners I know. I'm fully prepared, but I'm still scared. Happening in a matter of minutes. I just had to get this out there.

    Software to print scannable SKU's?

    Posted: 08 Dec 2017 06:49 PM PST

I have spreadsheets which store inventory from my business with generated SKU's.

I am looking for software which can accept a column of SKU's and print them for me. I have a printer and labels for this, I just need the software which can generate and print the labels.

The more functionality the software provides the better.

    Does anyone have any suggestions?

Disclaimer: I am looking for free software only. Not looking to apply for any sort of monthly subscription service.

(X-post from smallbusinessowner) Finally Successful! I want to buy property now; one expansion property parceled out, one for my wife and I, and income properties (eventually). Should I start an investment LLC before I buy my first property? Long but interesting...

    Posted: 09 Dec 2017 01:37 AM PST

SoCal business owner here. There is a piece of land for sale way below market value two properties away from my current "successful" agriculture business. We are an S-Corp. When i say successful I mean our 2017 profits are double 2016's, and total sales are double that of 2015 with the same costs all three years. 2016 profits were 60% higher than 2015; and I have one full year of operating costs sitting in the bank. Basically my 2017 profit is $1M USD with $480k total costs. $1.51M total revenue. We are an S- Corp. I could buy the expansion property with cash, put a permanent mobile home on it and make $200k easy should i choose to "flip" the property. I don't want to do that though. My parents are getting older and I want them to live there for as long as they need to. Property prices in the area are rising because the entire area is booming. The new property is big enough to let my parents live on half and I'd parcel out the other half as expansion area, thereby doubling (almost tripling) my sales with only 50% increase in total costs. Putting a brand new mobile home on a permanent foundation and prepping the property to build the expansion would cost about $200k. Once the property is functional for my business I will be able to increase my revenue to $2-3M USD. I have an agreement with the owners of the property that connects mine and the one I want; they're willing to lease me the back half of their property (about 250-275ft by 100ft for $500 per month so I can connect the two and drive cars/ equipment etc in between. Think of this connecting part as the bottom part of a U-shaped property. I will also be getting about $40-50k per month in royalties for lending out my proprietary technology to a big company outside the US. I get a percentage of their sales from using our methods. I want to buy my wife and I a house next year as well. I personally have great credit and so does my wife, and my company's credit is flawless. With the income I'll be getting from my expansion and the equity from adding a house to property I own outright, the potential of purchasing and renting out more real estate is very intriguing. I'd hire a reputable property management company to handle the renters so I could have passive income all while building real equity. My parents have been through hell from making the wrong decisions in real estate. I've learned from my parents and have made/saved my friends a lot of money by telling them when to buy and when not to. Any property I plan on buying that is not going to be lived in by me or my family will be researched thoroughly before making an offer. My question is: do I start a real estate or investment LLC and buy all of the properties under that business? I could lease the expansion property to my S-Corp from my LLC and basically pay myself. The extra properties down the road will just be a bonus. Sorry for the format. I'm on mobile, and on the toilet. Legs are getting numb. What do you think I should do?

Critique my brothers' burger chain landing page

    Posted: 08 Dec 2017 06:25 PM PST

Hi there ladies and gents, I'm a fan/lurker of this sub.

I won't waste your time, here's a TLDR of the situation:

    *Business: Grilled burger chain/joint

    *Style: Hole-in-wall / stands

    *Branding: rebellious, anti-fastfood establishment

*Marketing strategy: until recently, mostly word of mouth. Now mostly social media

*Market: entry-mid budget comsumers, casual diners

Now would like to know if this website I made for my bro's biz can actually convince people to order food via delivery. Here's the link to the landing page snackshackburgers

    Harsh comments are welcome :)

Capital One Spark Business is discontinuing their mobile app

    Posted: 08 Dec 2017 08:17 AM PST

I recently signed up for Capital One's Spark Business account, mainly to use their remote check deposit feature (via smartphone app).

Since getting the account a few weeks ago, I have never been able to deposit checks with the "Spark Business" iOS app. When I try, I get an error message: "Oops. Something went wrong." There are many one-star reviews in the App Store of others with the same issue.

Today, when I opened the app, I get a message (screenshot below) that says, "the spark mobile app is being discontinued" with a link to their regular online banking website, which has no check deposit function.

So I guess this means Spark Business accounts will no longer support remote check deposit at all?

Does anyone have any insider info if they plan to provide another app—perhaps their regular "Capital One" app will be updated to be able to access Spark Business accounts?

UPDATE: someone in the comments here says that check deposit functionality does exist in the mobile website. 😕 Anyone can confirm, does it work well?

Does anyone have SEDARA Health Care Sharing instead of Marketplace Insurance? How do you like it?

    Posted: 08 Dec 2017 08:12 PM PST

I have been researching different Healthcare plans when I stumbled upon an article about Medi Sharing. Where members (mainly Christians) pay a monthly fee which is pooled and then given out to ill members to pay health care costs.

This led me to Sedara which is for medi sharing for businesses and not affiliated with any religious group. Does anyone use it for yourself and employees? How has the process been?

Business accountancy question regarding startup costs.

    Posted: 08 Dec 2017 02:15 PM PST

Hi all, Hopefully, it's ok to post questions here. I'm a little stuck with start-up costs for a business.

If I'm starting a business and my business start-up costs are £50,000 and I've taken a business loan for the full amount.

My first year I will most likely make a financial loss. But could I write off those start-up costs over the next four years, and if so how does that work?

Do I add them to the income statement each year for say £12,500?

I've tried googling it (honestly) and it's more confusing.

    Any help appreciated.

Does the employee need to send in a new W-4 form when they want to change something?

    Posted: 08 Dec 2017 01:15 PM PST

I was getting everyone's address for the W-2s ready and some want to change dependents and such. I'm not really sure how to change just the dependents. Would I just keep everything else the same except the dependents section? Or best to get them to fill out another W-2?

Payment solution for my website proofs.

    Posted: 08 Dec 2017 12:49 PM PST

We are in the printing business and customers will send us their artwork to print. We set up a proof to make sure it is how they want it or if we added anything that it's how they want it.

Question is does anyone know of a way on that page we can have pre loaded information such as price, shipping and an upgrade option right on that page. We currently have them call in to approve but it would save time and money for customers and us if we can do that.

    Commercial lease questions...

    Posted: 08 Dec 2017 12:26 AM PST

    1) What are the requirements for a lease? What do they check for?

2)say someone has a 40 year credit score history with a high score, but a very low-earning tax return salaries through the year. Would they be able to rent out the place still? Can they make a huge down payment, like 6 months rent, to prove to the landlord they can afford it?

    Also:

    3) Say someone has a 40 year credit history with a stellar record, and they want to rent out a commercial store front. Can another person be the one who signs the lease? Or does it have to be the applying person. For example, can a father rent out a place for his son with no credit history?

Or will the father have to be the one to sign the lease, and then transfer it over to the son

Looking to make some extra money on the weekends....

    Posted: 07 Dec 2017 09:27 PM PST

Not interested in ride share or pizza delivery. Wanting to start my own thing.

What are some unique and fairly easy services I can provide in my local area? I was thinking of something like water softener salt but I'm not sure how I should market it.

Any other things you've done? And how did you market it?
