23 Years Old. Looking for tips on low priced stocks with high potential for growth. Posted: 06 Dec 2017 08:39 AM PST I am 23 years old and make $40k a year for now. My portfolio is currently around $14k. 50% of my portfolio is $ATVI and the rest is a mixture of $AAPL, $GNTX, $BAC, $MRO, $MPC, $STBX, $CSCO, and $BDSI (lost a lot of money on this one cause my cousin "Had a feeling"). I am looking to invest about $500 a month and am looking to be a little more aggressive. Need some tips on which stocks I should target/keep on eye on for dips. I have about $2000 cash that is ready to be invested. Some stocks I am currently watching are $AMD, $SNAP, and $PHM. Thanks in advanced for any help! [link] [comments] |
Why am I wrong to be so bullish on tech? Posted: 06 Dec 2017 08:07 AM PST My portfolio is very tech heavy. Most of you here would probably advise me to diversify, but I'm personally not convinced that's a good strategy for me. Here's why: Tech companies are growing fast and there doesn't seem to be much reason to believe that trend won't continue. Major tech companies like Google, Facebook and Amazon continuously outperform the market. Although (as this last week has shown) there is more risk and volatility associated with not diversifying into other industries, in the long-term it seems likely tech will continue to outperform the market. I'm young, and I'm not planning to withdraw my money any time soon. It doesn't matter to me if I'm down 20% in a month or a year so long as my long-term gains are good. I am not betting on any single company or stock. Even if one of my stocks goes to 0, I would be fine and it's extremely unlikely the sector as a whole will go to 0. An additional reason why I question diversification is because it tends to require investing in companies and industries primarily for the purpose of diversification. Peter Thiel has spoke a bit about this, why invest in 100 companies you kinda like when you can put it all in the 3 or 4 you think really have a good chance? Finally, I do own stocks in other industries and I will continue to invest in stocks from other industries if I like them enough. But diversification isn't a factor to me. Why is this a flawed strategy? [link] [comments] |

Posted: 06 Dec 2017 07:14 AM PST Picked up DPW at around $3.60 a share, anyone have any idea how high this will go, seeing that DPW has never done something like this before. [link] [comments] |

Are defense stocks the best choice right now Posted: 05 Dec 2017 07:55 PM PST The past few weeks have given me a heart attack, between tech stocks dropping, the CVS AET deal and tax reform. Even stocks like V that seemed consistent have been a let down lately. Then there's defense stocks like $BA, $LMT, $RTN, $NOC. They are resilient through the years, and prob the only sector that benefits from geoglobal politics and fear mongering with North Korea / Russia. My opinion is as tensions keep tight around the world, these stocks will keep increasing in value and are great plays over the next year. On top of that, they don't seem to be over hyped by the media for manipulation purposes like all the tech and financial stocks. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 06 Dec 2017 10:58 AM PST If every sale has to have a buyer and a seller, why do they show when more people are buying stocks as a green bar and when more are selling stocks as a red bar? Wouldn't the amount of sellers equal the amount of buyers of the transactions? I understand that not all the sales might be going through and the supply and demand behind it, just wondering why it shows it red and green. Thanks in advance [link] [comments] |
Canada's first ULCC (Ultra-Low-Cost-Carrier) Thoughts? JET. Posted: 06 Dec 2017 10:56 AM PST Anyone taking a look at Canada's first ULCC, kicker JET? (Ultra-Low-Cost-Carrier) I think it has tons of potential at just .33/share(CAD) with an intrinsic value of $3.03/share(CAD). With RyanAir sitting at nearly $30.50/share, could this have some serious potential? [link] [comments] |
Why does my s&p 500 fund not match gains for s&p 500? Posted: 06 Dec 2017 12:30 PM PST I have an s&p 500 fund $SGRSX. My fund for the day lost .37% as of now but the s&p 500 is up .10%. Whats the reason for this? [link] [comments] |
[Question] Non-GAAP net income Posted: 06 Dec 2017 11:19 AM PST I understand what a Non-GAAP Earnings Report is, and how that differs from a GAAP Earnings Report. However, I am confused as to what a company means when they state they want to ''deliver non-GAAP net income''. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 06 Dec 2017 11:17 AM PST The tech selloff over the past week has called my attention to the fact that I am not diversified enough. Problem is, I still feel like my holdings are reasonably priced, especially after the selloff, so I don't really want to get rid of any of them yet. So which of my holdings, if any, should I cut bait on? AAPL, MU, AMAT, KEM I'm also holding JD and BABA, but I'm looking at holding those long term. Thanks. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 06 Dec 2017 10:55 AM PST Buy-writes or covered calls are useful strategies for investors seeking to generate income by selling Call Options against either existing or concurrently opened long stock positions. A covered call strategy is typically employed by writing Call Options for a given expiration against an already existing equity holding. Buy-Writes typically involve simultaneously opening a long position in an equity and selling a call option on that long position with a specific strike price and expiration. Selling a call results in the collection of a premium on the option, and an obligation to surrender the underlying equity if the option is called by the purchaser. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 06 Dec 2017 02:00 PM PST They are a sales force for health care sector. Most of the health care, pharma companies are jumping into the veeva bandwagon. Earning is good but the damn stock fluctuates a lot. What do you guys think about it? [link] [comments] |
How do earning impact stock price? Posted: 06 Dec 2017 01:57 PM PST More specifically, I have some money in FNKO. Last night, they managed to top their expected EPS by 143%, which translated into... a 7% decline today? What is up with this? I would have expected at least some type of climb, even if only for the day. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 06 Dec 2017 01:44 PM PST Hey everyone. Looking for some help/advice from my fellow Canadians/traders in this sub. I am looking into getting a good app with real time quotes and a good scanner to help pick out the top movers to up my trading game. So far the best ones I've come across are: -Stocks to trade by Tim Sykes (hella expensive @ $180USD/month but probably worth it?) -Think or swim by TD Ameritrade (which I heard is great if your American trading only American tickers) -Then what I'm seeing for Canadians on the TD canada website is an advanced dashboard which looks to be similar to the think or swim by TD Ameritrade. So if anyone could help give any insight to any of the three apps above mentioned that would be much appreciated! [link] [comments] |

Thinking of selling AIG at a loss Posted: 06 Dec 2017 08:31 AM PST Long story short, I bought AIG when it was tumbling down ($3,000) before the reverse stock split. My shares are worth ($800) now and I've been wanting to sell. The issue is that on Ally (I used TradeKing at the time of purchase), it is showing me a pure gain of $800. When I sell, will I get a statement telling me the $2,200 that I've lost? [link] [comments] |
