It's my 36th birthday, and today I should've become a digital nomad. Posted: 04 Mar 2022 06:46 PM PST For 15 years, I've been doing business (primarily) online. I've experienced many failures but also many wins. I've often felt invincible, but also, there were moments when I've felt broken. I always analyze everything to get the most of it, and now I want to share some of my findings. It looked like a long hike, where successes were energy bars, while failures and mental fatigue were added weight to the backpack. The energy bars will take you only this far, but eventually, your backpack will be too heavy to carry. I've launched over 50 projects in my unhealthy race to grow, learn, be better. And I'd like to share a summary of what I've learned so far. There is a limit. There is a limit to how much you can take, digest, survive. You can feel those limits and break through them. This creates a false assumption that you can increase those limits. To some extent, this is true. I semi-believed that. I knew that there was a ceiling I'd hit somewhere down the road and that it'd be ugly. But then again, there was always a bit more work to be done, one more milestone to achieve. In the last 15 years, I've got 4 professions - each to expert level. 15 or even 10 years ago, I would be delighted and proud to hear that. But now? Well, it's cool, and I'll never complain about the job offers, but the weight of this achievement - well, it might not be worth it, really. Happiness is simplicity, and it isn't easy to be simple when you see and understand too much. This might sound like some bragging, but actually, it's a serious issue, and I know many business owners will relate to it. Knowledge is usually not associated with happiness. I remember talking with this taxi driver about the two kids he had. One, he said, was a successful business person - making great money, continually improving. The second was a seller at the market. "Guess who was happy? The second one, because she can enjoy the moment. She appreciates little successes. And money, well that can be a problem, but nothing major." To remain sane, you need a hobby. As a guy with experience in getting hit hard by reality, let me give you this advice: Small things that give you happiness - they are not silly - they are connectors with the inner self, relief points for you. If you like to listen and observe birds, maybe consider getting a pair of binoculars and giving yourself once every two weeks a few hours off so that you can go to the ornithological park? The calmness will help you to relax and reassess! Do you have too much explosive energy in yourself? Have you tried shooting with a bow? It's relaxing and explosive at the same time! And here I am. Today I'm becoming a digital nomad. I had tickets for today to leave for Tenerife, but because of my responsibility as a Polish, as a husband, I want to stay put for a moment to assess the situation. It's surreal, but then again, nothing is certain recently. Leaving your country that borders the warzone is complicated - you need to be ready for the worse these days. But hey - it's my birthday today - my wish is to pretend like I left today, not in a few weeks :) I love that I can work with customers that I treat like friends. My one-person company is working in a very specific niche - marketing management for tech founders. I like it (since I am a marketer and developer - I can connect both worlds), improving businesses and seeing them grow is a unique feeling. Assessing, reviewing, improving - well, that's my thing. No, no links to my service here :) Just sharing my thoughts. Rambling of birthday guy ;) So my summary of the last 15 years? You are invincible. Until you aren't. You are weak. Until you aren't. You are useless. Until you aren't. You are happy. Until you aren't. Know your limits, know your needs, know yourself. Do business, get money, but also get hobbies, get to know yourself. And most importantly - know when to quit. Don't lose yourself in a spiral of self-induced pain. If you cannot understand why you've exploded or haven't said anything when someone else exploded, how can you run a viable and growing business? Find out who you are. Don't be afraid to try to understand your actions. Good fortune to all of you. Thank you for reading this. It means a lot to me. Have a great weekend! [link] [comments] |
Posted: 05 Mar 2022 03:23 AM PST Hi, I'm thinking of making a tool that evaluates your online store for how good it is and how likely it is to produce a sale, and give suggestions for improvement. So I wanted to know what the best practices are for online stores, that my tool would check against. [link] [comments] |
I have an idea to make sleeping arrangements better for couples. Hear me out… Posted: 04 Mar 2022 11:18 PM PST Ngl. This system does technically exist. I'm not the first. But I WILL be the first to make it better and bring it to the western, western world. Here's my competition Two words: Expandable Bedding. Like I said, it does technically exist. But execution means more than just an idea, right? Also, I know I can improve on it. Right now the only sleep system that exists to combat "cover hogs" is a simple duvet cover that allows sleeping partners to separate the duvet/comforter. Meh. That's a start. Not the end-all. What about the top sheet though? How does a couple only separate the the comforter and not the top sheet and still find comfort? The answer is magnets…and a little ingenuity. The answer is always fucking magnets. Am I right, or am I right?! So, the comforter 100% disconnects, for "making the bed" reasons. BUT, the top sheet e x p a n d s. It allows for heat/snuggle inclusion and still allows for one partner to roll up like a little burrito without affecting the other person's sleep. I have preliminary designs and someone who's working on sewing them. Thoughts? [link] [comments] |
How to keep a social feed clean? Posted: 04 Mar 2022 10:35 PM PST I'm busy building a social network for a niche. The users will be able to upload images/videos (like insta/fb) related to that niche. The biggest question for me is: how to avoid weirdos to upload adult/toxic content? How do other platforms do that? Do they have an algorithm which filters out unwanted stuff or are there 24/7 humans working. Or am I missing an option? [link] [comments] |
Can someone help me find direction with my Instagram influencer base. Posted: 05 Mar 2022 02:11 AM PST Hey everyone! I currently run a food page on instagram that garners over 20000 views monthly. Key demographics are middle age woman in the United states. Originally my plan was to market my logo and other graphic design arts through amazon merch. Got denied twice so far. Phase two is suppose to be some food niche affiliate marketing for beer money or free merch. But so far no one has reached out to me. Phase 3 is affiliate marketing for more beer money: if anyone's in my niche what affiliate program worked best for you? I'm looking for affordable products that can help my follow base, but I'm not sure how to vet companies. Phase 4: cookbook sales Phase 5: blog Phase 6: packaging and shipping my nuts to the world. TLDR If you were in my shoes with a food follow base of 3500 people, 350 likes on average, and 20,000 views monthly how would you go about monetizing? How could I get companies to notice my brand? Best automations group you know? Posted: 04 Mar 2022 10:14 PM PST I'm a professional COO / Integrator. My main thing is processes… I love them! And I'm pretty good with the people too. My company is basically an assembly line that makes custom assembly lines. I understand the processes and flow them out, and then systemize it. I'm looking to upgrade by partnering with a master Automator. Someone who can take a very clearly mapped process, and turn it into an as automated of system as possible. Thanks for the referral in advance! [link] [comments] |
How to build a business off of my Journalism? Posted: 05 Mar 2022 12:57 AM PST So I like to write Op-Ed pieces specifically on politics and Ancient Near East Studies/Biblical Criticism and have posted on Medium but it gets very little attention. What should I be doing to build this into a business? How do I actually get a follower base? What should I be doing with other social media? [link] [comments] |
Has anyone sold a product (or business) idea to a company? Posted: 05 Mar 2022 12:50 AM PST I am currently developing a consumer electronics product with 2 friends. It's fun and all, but to actually run a business around it requires a lot of capital, so we are considering to partner or sell to a bigger tech-company. Has anyone ever done that? How did it go? Here's our idea: https://touchboard.tech/ [link] [comments] |
Success without cutting edges? Posted: 05 Mar 2022 12:23 AM PST I wanted to run by a comment my mother made and that shocked me a bit. She stated that to be really successful you can't abide by the rules, you have to break the law and be smart enough not to be caught. [link] [comments] |
How does startup funding work for non-natives? Posted: 04 Mar 2022 11:48 PM PST For those who are familiar with the startup process / have worked in a startup before, got funding for your startup / know how things work, please follow along. Given someone has a startup idea, can you walk me through the process of getting funds in terms of:

Do you guys feel like your business isn't legit? Posted: 04 Mar 2022 05:29 PM PST I'm in the early stages of building my first successful business. I've gone from prototyping my first product, to making a working model. I've created a rock solid and profitable business plan. I have begun building a website, (it's now minimally functional). And I am in the beginning stages of marketing, outreach, and advertising. I have not had any sales yet. At this point I don't feel like I'm not a real business. Is this something that every new business feels at the beginning? Is it a fake it until you make it sort of situation? And how long until that feeling goes away? [link] [comments] |
thoughts on .shop or .store (& .blog) extension domains? Posted: 04 Mar 2022 11:07 PM PST launching a new brand... includes ecommerce, blog, and heavy emphasis on social media presence. social media has already developed a pretty large following, but have yet to launch the store or blog. maybe the blog becomes profitable, maybe not. it is mostly to supplement the ecommerce and drive traffic. so my thought is, for the first year or so, to launch 2 different sites... the ecommerce as a .shop and the blog as a .blog. and once the brand becomes profitable, in a year or so, to merge the 2 by splurging on the .com, and in the mean time use the several thousand dollars that .com would cost me and put it into marketing... but i know that .com's are still, at this time, mostly the way to go. so... what are your thoughts on a .shop or .store extension for my ecommerce domain? Competing against my own factory Posted: 04 Mar 2022 09:34 PM PST I've been in the e-commerce space for about 3 years now and done well with 2 online companies. Little over 9 million in revenue to date. My suppliers are in the US and they happen to be my biggest competitors. I'm in the middle of building a new website for a product that I know can sell really well. MY GOAL of this new product / business is to buy directly from the Chinese factory so that we could have a product right-off-the-shelf ready to go that can have our own logo and customization on it so we can be more exclusive with it unlike our other products we've been selling through our existing websites. I've found a Chinese factory that meets our needs and price point. After doing all my homework, I've discovered this product that the factory produces just recently hit the US market under a different brand/logo than what the factory advertises. I've tried asking the rep at the factory who this company is and he just kept saying it's some private Chinese guy in the US. Turns out the address of this company is the same address as the factory 🤣 so basically this is the factory's private label and we'd be competing directly against them while importing from them at the same time. We know we'd still make a good penny picking up the crumbs of this deal, but we wouldn't really have any difference now other than a different logo which defeats our original purpose to have our own unique brand/product exclusiveness. *We've never imported *We advertise fully in-house and have no doubt of being able to sell **Have warehouse space So my question is should we just think small minded and go after a most likely short lived strategy thats probably unscalable and order the existing factory's brand that's already in US warehouses? OR go at this a different way? Any input would be great! Thanks in advance! [link] [comments] |

I keep skipping ideas because I’m searching for the perfect one Posted: 04 Mar 2022 03:58 PM PST How do I stop this? Webinar Share – My top tips on starting a beauty brand Posted: 04 Mar 2022 07:28 PM PST Hey fellow Entrepreneurs! To all the beauty brand entrepreneurs on this thread, this post is for you: Earlier this past week I had the opportunity to sit down with the amazing J.Bannister Branding to talk about how I brought my brand Wuli Grooming to life and share some very important lessons I've learned along the way that other Entrepreneurs can apply on their own journeys. The clip is attached below for anyone interested. It's a bit lengthy but there's lots of insight there whether you're still in the thinking and planning phase or just getting started with your brand. If you have any questions as always, feel free to DM me or leave comments on this thread! Much love to you all. [link] [comments] |
Is a business partnership possible with wildly different capital? Advice wanted. Posted: 04 Mar 2022 06:42 PM PST Me and a friend (who already owns a very successful business) have talked about opening a business together. I get the feeling that to him it would be more of a hobby, and a home base to promote his other business (which is totally fine), but to me it would be everything and what I would need to make my living off of it 100%. Originally he said he would match whatever capital I could bring. Without selling my house, which I own outright I could probably produce $70,000 in capital without a loan. He's now offered to put up $900,000 if we want to go bigger than our original idea. How can I be a 50% partner in a business when the starting capital is wildly different? Does one partner go into debt to the other partner? That worries me. This is an industry that I know a lot about, more than my friend, and he thinks I'm in a unique spot with my knowledge and ability to promote, and turn extra side income, but, the capital difference is still vast. I very much want to get out of my current job and I'm willing to make a leap, but… yea I come from a family that had a very successful business in my grandparents era, but they didn't teach my parents or me anything about running a business. So I've seen the benefits, but don't really know how to go about it. We would need a large physical space, and a lot of equipment. My friend could possibly buy the building and I could buy the equipment, and not have debt, but then again, I don't know where that positions me in ownership %. Sorry for so many questions. Looking for a duo partner - ECommerce Posted: 04 Mar 2022 05:29 PM PST Hey all, hope everyone is doing well. Bit different from your average post Was wonderinf if anyone is keen to start a store, i didnt realise you had to be 18 to own a shopify store and parents arent keen so why not see if anyone is keen in starting one as a duo. Im 17, i will put more effort than anything into making a successful business as it is a dream. If anyone is interested just shoot a comment or a message works either way. Im open to doing video call or anything to get to know anyone, as it can be a little bit dodgy trusting someone my age but i promise i will put as much effort in as the other person. Got a solid idea too💪 Cheers, Josh 😁 [link] [comments] |
