    Starting out in Insurance Insurance

    Starting out in Insurance Insurance

    Starting out in Insurance

    Posted: 25 Feb 2022 06:38 AM PST

Insurance was one of my main goals upon leaving university and majoring in economics. Managing risk always seemed interesting to me. That being said I applied to Chubb and other places and was rejected. Finally months after graduation, I applied to a different insurance company that I won't name at the moment, and was hired as a Claims Advocate.

The starting salary is a bit over 70k. Obviously I'm ecstatic, but I did have plans to attend law school after this summer which may be on hold. Is insurance a good field for a career, and what books can I read to learn the lingo before I start the job?

    Auto Liability Adjusters -Pending Size

    Posted: 25 Feb 2022 06:10 AM PST

Just curious what y'all pending sizes looking like. This was inspired by those adjusters who have a manageable pending to the point it allows them to call me weekly despite the expectations I set from the word JUMP.

Full disclosure I work for the Lizard and I have 300-350 on the regular. ( No Capping please I'm just trying to gauge where the industry is at and trust I get some of us are more efficient than others and handle one state vs several I handle 7 states)

    Life Insurance Denial Question

    Posted: 25 Feb 2022 01:02 PM PST

I got out of the military last year in July and applied with a half dozen different life insurance companies. Received one acceptance, at a horrible ungodly rate, and quite a few denials. The last denial took months and month to finally come in, but when it did, the agent actually explained the denial reason. He stated that because of my PTSD, the company is hesitant to accept liability until I have been stable for a year and to wait and try again in the future. I was in a rush, at work, and didn't ask a lot of questions. Now that I am thinking back, I am very confused.

Yes I got out in July, and transferred my medical care to the VA. Looking back at the denial, they are basing things off the VA "diagnosing" me in July when I left the service. The fact is that I got that diagnosis nearly a decade ago, but transferred care from the military to the VA last year. Is this something I can go back with? I totally understand any insurance companies hesitancy to cover a newly diagnosed PTSD applicant. But it's been 9 years for me, no meds, counseling needed in the last 8 years, just living the life with an existing diagnosis. Can I go back and ask them to relook at things because the dates are incorrect?

21F in Dallas, cheapest full coverage insurance?

    Posted: 25 Feb 2022 12:54 PM PST

I was trying to wait but something changed in my circumstances and I must get off my parents insurance immediately. I pay them monthly currently.

I'm looking for the cheapest full coverage insurance for a 21f who lives in Dallas County. I know my rates will stay high, since I live in DFW and commute across the county.

    I have a 2012 Highlander Hybrid.

Other Driver Lied to Insurance/Police Report and Later Evidence Shows They Were Lying. Recourse?

    Posted: 25 Feb 2022 12:42 PM PST

Was in a he said-he said with another driver, they kept saying it was not their fault both on the police report on the scene and their insurance. Later I was able to obtain video evidence showing them at fault and their insurance put 100% of the blame on them.

    1. Is there any recourse for them lying?
    2. They have a limit and it may not cover all damages/rental fees etc. despite them being 100% at fault. There was a mix-up on my insurance about my coverage, so my insurance won't cover the difference either. Any options to have the guilty party pay the full amount of repairs for an accident their insurance said they were 100% at fault for?

Ontario Canada Brokers: best way to complete all required RIBO hours for the year.

    Posted: 25 Feb 2022 08:53 AM PST

I have a few hours but I don't think I'm connected with enough carriers to be able to be aware of all the offerings for RIBO accredited hours available to me. What's the best way to stay on top of what company is offering what course for a RIBO credit. Any input is appreciated.

Should I retain my own lawyer?

    Posted: 25 Feb 2022 12:01 PM PST

    Hello,

I was in a minor car accident over a year ago. Minor damage, no visible injuries at the time. The other party filed suit alleging bodily injury. My insurance policy settled one of the claims, but the other party isn't backing off their demand for the other person. My insurance company told me the other lawyer is demanding $70k and my coverage is for $1`00/$300K.

Should I retain my own lawyer to deal with my insurance company? They appear to be rolling the dice even though the demand is within my limits.

Accidentally payed car repair supplement out of pocket

    Posted: 25 Feb 2022 11:57 AM PST

This is the first time I ever had to file a claim with my insurance and the whole process is still very new to me. I was involved in a minor fender bender in late December and filed a claim the same day. The driver was also on the same insurance and there was no police report filed or anything. I used my insurance's photo estimate app and got an estimate for around $1,000. I took the estimate to a repair shop and they put me on their books. My insurance issued me a $1,000 electronic payment on 1/3, which I was supposed to pay to the repair shop upon completion. They set me up with a rental car and I dropped off my vehicle for repairs on 1/17. The shop told me it would take about 1 week although it turned out to be almost 6 weeks.

This is where I screwed up. Yesterday (2/24) the shop called me to let me know that my car was finally ready and they just needed payment. There was some hidden damage and the total cost of repair ended up being around $2,500 (1,500 more than the estimate). I tried to get in touch with my claim rep but couldn't reach him and their main number just put me through to his voicemail. I read my last email correspondence with my rep which was on 12/29 and they had indicated that "You will pay the shop directly once the repairs are complete. If there is any balance after we will review and pay them too." I misinterpreted that to mean that I was supposed to pay the full balance before submitting the overage to my insurance. I didn't realize that the supplement needed to be processed and negotiated through my insurance first. Apparently the repair shop reached out to my insurance several times yesterday but the repair rep/claim adjuster is out of the office until next week. I had already dropped of my rental and was now stuck at the repair shop. I kind of freaked out and ended up paying the entire balance of $2,500 (the $1,000 I had been sitting on for almost two months plus the $1,500 supplement). Today my claim representative told me he didn't have any further information and that a repair rep would be reaching out to me shortly.

Is there anything I can do at this point or did I completely screw myself over? My claim rep made it sound like there's still a chance I can be reimbursed for some of the expenses but I really have no idea. There was definitely some lack of communication between my insurance, the repair shop, and myself but ultimately I'm the idiot for not knowing how this whole process works to begin with.

    Liberty mutual renters insurance?

    Posted: 25 Feb 2022 11:35 AM PST

I'm 19 and have liberty mutual auto insurance that cost $270 A month. The issue is that there was a fee of $1600 that I didn't know about as an upfront cost. So I was wondering if anyone has liberty mutuL renters insurance and knows if there's up front costs.

    Insurance premium audit "processing rules"

    Posted: 25 Feb 2022 10:46 AM PST

I'm trying to learn more about insurance premium audits (possibly interested in becoming an auditor) and need some clarification, if anyone here has any perspective to share.

Although I'm positive that this is not the case (at all!), from my naive, outsider's perspective, it seems that a premium audit consists of:

    1. the collection of financial data (from P&L statements, tax returns, income statements, etc.); and then
    2. the organization of that data into a final audit report

But I'm sure there is more to it than just collecting data and adding it to a report! I'm sure there are state/federal/local laws and rules (maybe carrier-specific?) that the auditor has to know to apply or calculate during the production of an audit report.

For instance, maybe (as an auditor) you need to record the number of employees under a certain labor code were employed during a given policy period, and then punch that number into an equation of some kind, and then put the output of that equation on the final audit report.

So which is it? Is an "audit" just collecting data and plugging it into a PDF template (the report)? Or are there rules/laws/etc. that get applied to this collected data that affect the final submitted report?

And if so, is there a website, an online PDF, or some other resource I could turn to for beginning to understand these rules?

    StateFarm rejecting to necessary fix

    Posted: 25 Feb 2022 10:46 AM PST

Looking for input. Almost a year ago a person insured through State Farm drove his ball receiver into my wife's parked car. Filed the claim and web status shows nothing else that I need to do, claim assigned to a team, somebody from that team will contact me. After seeing the same status for almost a year I decided to call them, then they finally processed the claim. Here is where thing gone worse. Body shop told me that bumper cover need to be replaced but SF denied blending paint to adjacent panel and denied replacing the clear bra. Body shop said that from their track record State Farm has never budge on their decision for denials. Should I lawyer up?

Would specialty electric scooter insurance count as history of insurance?

    Posted: 25 Feb 2022 10:29 AM PST

Recently went carless and got non-owner's insurance so when I do get a car my rates won't be affected by a lapse in coverage. If I can find somewhere that offers electric scooter insurance, can that operate as an instance of having insurance in place of the non-owner's insurance?

How many days past due date until cancellation of progressive auto insurance?

    Posted: 25 Feb 2022 10:27 AM PST

Sold a car that’s just sitting in the driveway now. They’re not picking it up for 2 weeks. Wife and I are purchasing a new car and new policy with the new car and the other car. Question: should I drop coverage and activate the new policy before taking delivery of the new car?

    Posted: 25 Feb 2022 10:19 AM PST

Some details: other car and driveway car are in separate policy's. One under my wife and one under me. This will be the first joint policy. I'm trying to avoid a lapse but don't want to over pay.

Got a traffic ticket, if I do defensive driving first, then later pay ticket...

    Posted: 25 Feb 2022 09:33 AM PST

I got a fairly substantial ticket last night. Was driving too fast, thinking I was still in a 55 mph zone where I'd be traveling ~15 over (still speeding, just not nearly as bad) but it had dropped down to 40, making me ~30 over.

The ticket will be a 6 pointer. I currently have zero. The officer could have taken me to jail for reckless driving but the ticket is only for speeding - he let me off (thank God).

I don't plan to fight it. I don't think I have much of a case. He had backup very near, who could possibly verify. I may still consult a lawyer on my options. I also don't qualify for deferral, because years ago I had a HTV (habitual traffic violator) judgment and this county doesn't allow those with that (ever) to do deferral.

I plan to take defensive-driving online to get a 4 point reduction/credit: I am curious if—if I do this first, weeks ahead of paying the ticket, if the BMV will ever show anything above 2 points to insurance, or however it reports it, if my insurance rates will reflect 6, or 2 points...

Hi, so I just got my licence (19 male) I had bought a car recently (2011 base model vw golf) I’m pricing around for insurance and I’m shocked at the prices.

    Posted: 24 Feb 2022 02:02 PM PST

My lowest quote was $427 for absolute base insurance, this is with driving school and winter tire discounts and my dad owns a trucking company and has used Morrison for over 20 years for it that I supposedly got discounts because of. I live in a small town roughly 50 minutes from Toronto. My sister pays 85 for the same car just 3 years older. How can they justify $427? Seems crazy to me.

    State Farm vs. Cincinnati Financial

    Posted: 25 Feb 2022 07:53 AM PST

I wanted to see if anyone has any views on State Farm insurance vs Cincinnati Financial. I'm purchasing a condo and my insurance offer through State Farm (where I currently have auto insurance) for Condo, Auto and an umbrella is $4,360/year. For fairly similar coverage at Cincinnati, they have offered me $4,991/year. I hear Cincinnati generally has a better claims process.

Is going with higher priced Cincinnati better to potentially have a better claims experience with them in the event of a loss?

    Is $302 a month with a $2500 deductible a good plan?

    Posted: 25 Feb 2022 07:25 AM PST

So my job has just started offering health plans. And I was excited, until I found out how much it was. I've never had health insurance before. So don't really know what's going on. There was 3 plans offered. That one being the most expensive one. But the only one where the deductible isn't like 33% of my yearly salary. Is this worth it?

    Travel Health Insurance

    Posted: 25 Feb 2022 02:40 AM PST

    Hi Everyone,

I will spend 2 months and a half in the US - I come from Germany where I have a private insurance that will be valid in the US, but I don't want to pay for my bills and I would like to buy a travel health insurance as well - to be sure that I don't have any problems. Any suggestions of good (and maybe affordable) ones.

    Thank you

    Not at fault, no insurance!

    Posted: 25 Feb 2022 12:45 AM PST

My parked car (I'm by Vermont and was not in or operating the vehicle at the time of the accident) was rear ended by another driver. The damage isnt too extensive on my car, just got part of my rear bumper cover scraped, a flat tire, and my trunk dented a little. The other driver is fine but her car is possibly totaled. Police came and took a report and she is most definitely at fault, my car was safely and legally parked. My insurance is lapsed, how difficult will it be for me to get repairs covered by her insurance? Would me pursuing a third party claim run the ⠀risk of facing legal consequences for not having insurance?

Just found out yesterday that I owe my doctor $1400?

    Posted: 24 Feb 2022 07:27 PM PST

I have adhd and I see a psychiatrist for it. I did a lot of research to find someone in network (BCBS NJ Horizon). This doctor is in my network. I triple checked. I've had 20 appointments or so over the last 2 years. The copay has always been $30, as per the specialist copay. That's what we've been doing the last 2 years.

Yesterday right before our phone appointment, my doctor tells me that he was very confused as he was contacted by my insurance or their subcontractor. Allegedly this entire time my payment has been $100 and even though it has never been communicated to me I owed an extra $70 each visit, neither by the insurance company, their contractor, or my physician, I still owe $1400+ in backpack. What the fuck?

I didn't get so much as a letter. I checked and made sure and verified with my doctor that he's in network. I'm so fucking confused. I don't have $1400 to spare. I work 40 hr a week and as a lab tech and I make $17/hr. I save almost all of my money and I still can't afford shit. I'm panicking. I'm 24 and between this and student loans it feels like my life is over.

Adjuster asking to bring their own roofer to assess roof damage

    Posted: 24 Feb 2022 01:02 PM PST

Unfortunately during one of the big snow storms these last few months I had multiple large ice dams build up on my roof and cause leaking inside 5 different places in my house.

We had a pretty large amount of damage due to the leaks and a lot of spots in my house are still currently opened up. Some of these spots still leak when rain falls hard and/or snow melts off the roof in the subsequent weeks.

My adjuster has been fairly combative throughout this experience. Ranging from trying to tell me each of the 5 different leaks should be 5 different claims (despite being the result of the same storm) to telling me I really shouldn't bring a roofer out.

Obviously if this adjuster is telling me not to bring a roofer out, that's exactly what I did. In his report he noted that the roof was damaged from multiple ice dams and because of the multiple locations requiring fixed, the overall age of the roof (15-18yrs) and because the roof sections are "tied together" I would need a new roof and gave me a quote.

I sent the quote to the adjuster and have never gotten a faster response from her after she has dragged her feet on just about every other issue. She wants to bring out her own roofer now to assess the damage.

I think in order to get the roof repairs/replacement that seem necessary I must let the insurance roofer inspect my roof I get that. I just know it's going to be a foregone conclusion that this roofer will not see eye to eye with the one I brought out and my adjuster will not deem it necessary.

Meanwhile the interior of my house is opened up all over the place and I won't be repairing those until the roof stops leaking. I'm worried about a prolonged fight with my adjuster when all I want is my roof fixed such that I'm not dealing with these issues again in the future.

In sum adjuster and the insurance roofer are asking to come out next week. How should I work with this situation such that I get the best result (roof fixed)? Any advice is much appreciated!!

Health Insurance and how to look at it

    Posted: 24 Feb 2022 09:56 PM PST

As a Company Manager for decades, we were down to just my family (2 adults, 2 adult children)

Keep in mind all of this is POST Obamacare!

We were paying 2200/mo for health insurance for the 4 of us, 7 years ago it was 1500.

anyway, company had gone thru several things, lost a major customer, and then comes Covid, so we decided that the end of last year was finally a good time to get out from under the expenses.

    ---------------------------------

Here is where it gets interesting.

Health Insurance was 2200/mo, wife has RX's that add up to 1400+ a month. We had a 7K deductible, so for the first 6 months of the year it was 2200+1400- about 150 PER MONTH (so 3550/month out of pocket)

and for the first 6 months out of the year, that 150/mo was all the insurance paid for the RX load. (until we met the crazy deductible)

THEN, insurance paid the 1400 except for the 100 difference.

    ----------------------------------------------

ANYWAY, had been sweating the expenses if we closed the doors, and decided to cancel the insurance totally for now.

thought I would be paying 1250/mo for the RX without any insurace.

had the pharmacy try several discount codes (think goodrx)

and here, for Feb. the RX cost went from 1250 (plus my insurance cost) to 315.00

ALL because of a discount code.

I am very happy for that, however

    ------

If the powers that be can make a monthly RX fall 80+% by using a discount code, then like everything else, it is all a sham, why would I need to make those crazy insurance payments if I could have simply snapped my fingers and produced a discount code?????
