Middle to low performing sales people, how much do you make and how has your career panned out? Posted: 26 Feb 2022 03:41 PM PST I see a lot of threads and posts on here about individuals who are consistently at the top of their organizations. I'd like to hear from those who are average to low performers, the guys who don't really try or maybe just have unrealistic quotas to hit. Genuinely, how many of you have been able to make a career in sales making a decent living with minimal effort? This isn't a jab at anyone, I just know that it's not possible for everyone here to be top 3 at their org and making 300k a year so I want to hear from the other-side. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 26 Feb 2022 11:50 AM PST Got into tech sales recently. Took a significant pay cut to start as a SDR. Worked in several corporate roles but never considered sales as a career until recently. Always doubted myself to sell software. Or anything for that matter. This was my first ramp month. Hit my target Friday afternoon. Not a lot of people around me understand the satisfaction this brings after doubting yourself for so many years and finally being able to achieve it once you're in it and just go for it! I have no clue how next month will be but I'm going to keep working hard. Have a couple of mentors who have reminded me to always keep this win in mind as the road ahead may not be always so kind! Not gonna lie, teared up a little when I hit that goal. Happy tears obviously. Thanks to everyone here for the ongoing advice. You may not realize how many you're helping out there and I appreciate all of you! [link] [comments] |
OutBound SaaS call with Head of Architecture for Africa Posted: 27 Feb 2022 06:34 AM PST This will give me an opening to the CIO, where I will loop in my AE with. They are a major Enterprise Consultancy Firm. Sourced my prospect from and MSA Outbound sequence and got a call set up from last week. They are unaware of our Masters Service agreement with have with North Europe and NAMER and are just exploring at the moment. This call goes ahead tomorrow morning and want to float this out here with you fine folks beforehand. BDR for the moment but very close to AE transition next Q. We provide Work Management Solutions. How to introduce my boss to prospects? Boss, colleague, job title...? Posted: 27 Feb 2022 12:11 AM PST I'm always a bit puzzled about what's the best way to introduce my boss in calls with prospects? I work for a small company and act both as BDR/SDR and sometimes as AE. When I get meetings with high-value targets, my boss usually joins the demo with me to help introduce our service. If I already have some rapport with the prospect and feel comfortable to be more informal, I usually just say he's my "boss" but if it's a very formal call I'll maybe say his job title "director" or simply refer him as my colleague. I really like being honest/transparent with my prospects so I prefer to say the truth, that he's my boss, but at the same time I think it's important to not let them think I'm not the right guy to be speaking with or whatever (I'm not senior enough). How are you measuring email success Posted: 26 Feb 2022 10:20 PM PST I've spent the best part of the last year honing my cold/warm emailing and now getting between 20-40% (B2B). I'm planning on sharing it in a separate post in a few days. In the meantime I'm curious as to how you guys measure success in e-mailing? Specifically what KPIs do you track (open, clicks etc). And how often are you tracking and changing to adjust? And then finally, what're you changing? Subject? Content? Sender address? Thanks! [link] [comments] |
Posted: 26 Feb 2022 11:53 AM PST I've been a BDR at my company (series b startup) for about 7 months now. When I interviewed, I was told by my now manager that they're looking at an 8-10 month BDR to AE tenure, and he's been confirming this since then, saying that I can expect AE around May. I asked him if it would make sense for me to start the convo with sales managers now, and he thought it was a great idea, so I reached out to one of them and set up a meeting to discuss, especially since they have a few openings right now. A week or so after we talked, the VP of sales messaged my manager and told him to tell me that I basically shouldn't be wasting his managers' time, and that the discussion shouldn't even start until the 10-12 month mark. This is way off of what was set as an expectation. The BDR team is pretty small, and there hasn't even been a BDR moved to AE yet (the rep with longest tenure has been "transitioning" for the past three months without an offer) but isn't it odd that the expectations are so misaligned? At this rate I'm prob looking at AE in ~1.5 years, nearly double the original expectation. Is it even worth sticking it out or should I try to jump to AE anywhere else? I've been the top performer pretty consistently so a Sr BDR move would be easy, not sure if I'd be able to swing AE though [link] [comments] |
I just got promoted from internal sales to field sales and need to buy a car quick. Posted: 27 Feb 2022 04:24 AM PST With the large pay increase and $475 car allowance plus miles reimburse, I'm looking for a new/used car in a hurry. What car identities with your brand and is also functional for your line of work? I currently have a Honda CR-V for transporting the kids and will be saying good riddance to the vw jetta [link] [comments] |
How would you handle objections to these questions? Posted: 26 Feb 2022 07:50 AM PST I know there's alot of posts on here about objection handling, but alot of it applies to cold calling and emails. My objections are going to be face to face with warm prospects(homeowners) that seeked us out or were advised too because they would need our solution (HVAC) soon. 1) What is your budget? Alot of people say they don't know what it would cost and that's why I'm there. If I give a range from 7-30k, they usually say "30k!! Holy smokes! I don't want to spend that!" How do I politely work it down in a way that they will give me a solid number, or at least a range I could work with? 2) if you chose to opt for monthly investment how much would you be comfortable with? Most investments fall between 80-120 a month, how reasonable is it to wiggle this out of someone who may just flat out refuse to give a monthly investment number? 3) when would you like to move forward? "I'm not purchasing today" "I'm just getting pricing for six months from now" "I don't know" My default response would be, what will be different six months from now for you? And gauge based off their response what I should do next. If they say they'll have more money saved, at this point I should mention monthly investment I think right? 4) if I can provide a solution that resolves your pain points and fits your budget, can I ask for your business today? "I'm getting other quotes" whatre you looking for in these other quotes? "I don't want to move forward today" what'll be different if you wait? 5) "Just give me a price" what's a polite way to tell people if I just gave a price then they wouldn't find the value in our solution? I had my sales managers and team mates hammer me the other day on objections and it's easily my weakest point. Like 1/10 weak. I need all the help I can get. Right now I'm flowcharting objections and responses to try and ready my mind for when I get hit with them, because I freeze up and stammer currently instead of smoothly churning out a response. Any help would be greatly appreciated. [link] [comments] |

Is Relationship Management a sales role? Posted: 27 Feb 2022 01:47 AM PST Love this sub, and it's given me the insights to achieve some great numbers… but I've always been in a relationship manager role. I want to hear from real sales people about their take on this role. [link] [comments] |

Posted: 26 Feb 2022 04:13 PM PST I know PIP isn't new. However, I have conflicted feelings about it. Does it actually help reps hit quota? Those of you who have been on it, does it actually motivate you to work harder or does it have the opposite effect? Do you get extra support from leadership when you are on PIP? [link] [comments] |
Need 2 more meetings Monday to hit Feb quota Posted: 26 Feb 2022 10:52 AM PST In order to hit quota for feb i need to book 2 more meetings. Should i fire off some emails this weekend? Not sure if its an effective approach / frowned upon. Thanks [link] [comments] |
Am I getting a fair shake here? Enterprise AE job offer at startup. Posted: 26 Feb 2022 02:02 PM PST Hey all, been a longtime lurker but never joined as I never envisioned myself in a sales role. Go figure. Here's what's up: I have an offer for an Enterprise AE position with a venture-stage (Pre-A) tech company in MCOL Canada. I'm 21 and graduating in two months. Offer is 75k base + 10k performance + ~25k in options. This is their first AE position so there really isn't an OTE framework set up - for that matter no commission framework either. Does anyone have any experience with the evolution of AE roles at startups/VC-stage companies? Am I getting a decent deal here? I'm having a hard time finding comparables given that the position and my experience are a bit unique. How would I go about finding comparable salaries to see if I'm over/under market value? I'm truly new to this field. I appreciate any insight at all! [link] [comments] |
Got offered a way better job in this market after I just started with another company Posted: 26 Feb 2022 09:36 PM PST What would you do? Would you feel bad that you just started with this company and is leaving now? Or would you let them know TC offered and see if they would consider matching before walking? [link] [comments] |
Making the switch from BDR to Inside Sales, what kind of headset for zoom meetings? Posted: 26 Feb 2022 01:52 PM PST Field is specifically cybersecurity and small business, I'll be doing my first real account manager position that requires me to actually run sales meetigns about products. Good news, I actually have a 500+ budget for office equipment beyond my computer so I can get whatever I want basically. Bad news, I have no idea what good etiquette would be. Not having a headset and just using my internal speaker array seems like a bad idea. Feedback and they are way more difficult to hear. A gaming style large headset clearly offers the best comfort and sound quality, but likely wouldn't look professional. It would be my preference, but I don't want to look like a kid or not professional enough. I can shoot the difference with a more "work" style headset, but I'm not sure how well that would fly either. Whats a good recommendation? Headest or not headset and if headset what type? My position has relatively little outbound calling so thats not really a relevant concern, this is mostly for meetings. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 26 Feb 2022 12:38 PM PST Sorry for the long post. I Started a new commissions base job selling window furnishings in November 2021 and through out the interview process I wasn't told that the commissions were paid after installation of the blinds. When I told them my current job at the time I got paid fortnightly they said it's the same. Only after I quit my job and went in to sign the contract I notice it stated commissions are paid weekly but only once jobs are fully installed. I questioned the office manager at the time that I wasn't told that prior and that if I can expect to see commissions in 3-4 weeks as that's the usual time frame and she relied back yes there abouts. At around the 8 week mark into this job and me questioning why it's taking so long they offered to pay me a retainer that had to be paid back once I get my commissions. (I had to beg for money) Well it's now 4 months later still no commissions only the minimal retainer that has to be paid back from my imaginary commissions that I earned ! They owe me around 25k and in the meantime I've spent around 18k of my own savings as this is a commission only role. Since I started I have seen really bad reviews and the company was actually running under a different name prior to me starting and they didn't mention it to me until I brought it up. I continue to get abused by customers complaining their blinds aren't installed or installer hasn't turned up and they paid up in full. So this company gets paid in full from the customer but won't pay me my commissions once I get the deposit. I want to leave but worried I won't see that 25k they owe me. I think they're using the retainer to pay me so they avoid paying a huge lump of commission and are letting it drag on hoping I'm content because I'm getting paid still. (Even though i have to pay it back) They keep promising me it's coming but it feels like I'm being fooled as they keep dragging this on without paying me my commission.! [link] [comments] |
Posted: 26 Feb 2022 03:01 PM PST I received 2 offers for 2 different industries. One in finance the other in Tech sales. Finance job is a Client services coordinator that is a combination of client servicing and some, if any, sales. 75k base, no out of pocket on health/dental/vision. 401+ match and annual bonus potential (around 10k or so). Traveling involved with meeting clients around state. Going to conventions. Small company (around 100 employees). No reviews as company is small however seem family like… say they take care of their employees… Tech sales job is for a payroll HCM company as an account executive…very large…73k salary but uncapped commission. Will be given book of business… good benefits and 401k. Vesting with match after 2 years… claimed ote is around 140-150k… nervous about culture of this company though given Glassdoor reviews. Potentially given overworked book of business I'm having a hard time deciding… I've been in sales with banking for around 5 years. So option 1 makes sense with my background. Just nervous about upward mobility and potentially career pivoting if things don't work out. They say there is growth potential but it is a small company. Option 2 seems like more potential and the experience in tech sales would be good…. However… looks like there is high turnover in payroll hcm… nervous of failure 25 with all of my career in banking [link] [comments] |
SDRs, how much training are you given? Posted: 26 Feb 2022 02:29 PM PST First time working as an SDR. Curious what kind of training others have gone through. Are you often coached/trained? Did you go through many courses before getting to work? Were you simply thrown to the wolves and expected to do your dials and hit quota? I myself had about a week of training about the company, product, some prospecting and objections overview. After a couple days of listening to calls, it was go time. [link] [comments] |
Target doubled, pay decreased, no accelerator - I don’t feel good Posted: 26 Feb 2022 02:23 PM PST Im an SDR in SaaS. As the title says, our target got doubled while our new comp plan got restructured in a way in which I will make 500$ less each month with a 25$ accelerator for each new Opportunity. Coming from my old comp plan I will make 1000-1500$ less each month while having to deal with a target that got doubled. Has anyone experienced this? Edit: I feel so discouraged and cheated on. They really don't seem to care about us. I really want to make this my career but I'm really close to just quitting. But I'm scared it's as bad at other companies. My morale has never been as low. Posted: 26 Feb 2022 01:45 PM PST This community is awesome and helped me land my first interview as an SDR next week!!! I have had a couple previous conversations with recruiters at other orgs prior this, and I think I have a decent idea of what I might be asked. However, if anyone has a curveball question, I'd be happy to hear it for preparation. My big question for those already in the game is, what do you recommend or wish you'd have asked in your interview. Things I'm considering: Sales cycle? Size? training? % of reps making quota? Ramp up time? Is it appropriate to ask some of these as interjections/follow-ups to their questions. Also, is there anything I shouldn't ask (or research in advance) to avoid sounding naive? Thanks in advance! [link] [comments] |
Is being an AE that much better then a SDR/BDR? Posted: 25 Feb 2022 04:34 PM PST Obviously in terms of money it is. But how about stress/work load? I have the chance after 3 months of being an SDR to move into an AE role (somehow) but the grind and stress of SDR has left a sour taste. I'm glued to my desk all day, and work long hours. With AE you have a higher responsibility so I would just assume it's worse for stress/hours. Hopefully y'all can shed some light to a rookie SaaS'er [link] [comments] |
Posted: 26 Feb 2022 04:42 PM PST Hey everyone, just wanted to know did the company pay you a Stipend for working from home? And if they provided any kind of allowance for doing so? Also, are the quotas shared or is it individually? [link] [comments] |
Freight broker vs Mortgage Banker Posted: 26 Feb 2022 11:19 AM PST Hello r/Sales, I am looking to get some advice on an upcoming career choice. I am currently expecting two job offers: one with CH Robinson, one of the largest third party logistics companies, and the other is with Rocket Mortgage In Freight, looks like it's $50k base with 10% potential bonus per month ($5k bonus). With Rocket Mortgage, the pay is substantially lower at the base level but it sounds like this meat grinder could definitely produce some gold. I have past experience in retail sales and education as an enrollment advisor (not legally allowed to be called sales lol. 80-120 calls a day trying to convince people to go to school).
