You guys were right about being an auto claims adjuster…

    Posted: 19 Jan 2022 06:44 PM PST

I posted on here about 4 months ago because I got offered a job as an auto claims adjuster. Many people commented about being yelled at, insulted, the heavy and difficult to manage workload, and much more. I ended up taking the job with all of this in mind cause I needed a job since I was laid off my previous one. Let me tell you, you guys were ABSOLUTELY correct.

I'm only about 4 months into the job and I can't see myself doing this for much longer than a year. I've worked a bunch of jobs throughout my life and never been talked to the way I have been at this job. People are brutal despite the fact that it's my job to help them. The workload adds up so fast and so many claims just hang in the middle ground because you're waiting on people to call you back or a report to come in. You end up kicking it down the road only to add it to the pile for another day.

I'm keeping the post short, I could go on and on, but I'll keep at it this. I'm trying my hardest to get into ARBI which I hear is way less daunting. Eventually I want to get into underwriting.

Vehicle won't be fixed for more than a year

    Posted: 20 Jan 2022 06:53 AM PST

We've got a bit of an odd but likely not unique situation..

In Oct 2021, we discovered that some kind of rodent had made a nest under the hood of our vehicle (new 2020 Ford Escape Titanium Hybrid, purchased in Feb 2021). Fortunately, we discovered before there was engine damage, but this rodent also chewed a bunch of wiring. Insurance was called and they took it to a mechanic (not the dealer) of their choice to be fixed. The problem will be covered less a $500 deductible.

Now fast forward several months, and (due to the pandemic?), the part that needs to be replaced (the wiring harness), is not being manufactured at all apparently. Insurance did provide a rental but advised us we had up to a maximum of $5000 in rental coverage, so we returned it now as we are working from home primarily and don't need a 2nd car. Today they called and informed us that they have news on when the part will be available - within a timeframe of 2 months to 1 YEAR!

The insurance person was very nice on the phone and said they were going to look into other options to help get it driveable sooner (how? I don't know), and/or extend our rental coverage longer.

Just looking to know if anybody has had a similar experience - ie car repairs taking a very extended time, and if there is anything else we can do here? Is it likely our insurance policy has any clauses for this type of situation?

    We are in Ontario, Canada.

I rear ended someone, I don’t have insurance / Texas

    Posted: 20 Jan 2022 06:47 AM PST

Okay, so no lectures please. Stupid stupid stupid mistake I made. This morning I rear ended a woman after picking up my dog from the vet. My first ever car accident It was stop and go traffic going down a slick hill in the rain and I just tapped the back of her GMC Acadia. I guess you could call it a fender bender, made a small golf ball dent in her tailgate and cracked a plastic trim piece. She wasn't injured, nor was I.

Police made a report & gave me an incident number and told me all I could do was wait. Does her insurance cover the damages and then I pay her insurance the cost of repair?

    What's likely to happen?

Advice Needed: Customer Needs Replacement Cost Estimate

    Posted: 20 Jan 2022 06:11 AM PST

A colleague has a customer who had flood damage to their property. Their claim was subsequently denied through their property carrier and they did not carry flood insurance. They are applying for government aid and were told they need to provide a replacement cost estimate. They plan on completing the work themselves but need to provide an estimate from either a contractor or an adjuster. The property carrier did not visit the property to provide an estimate.

Anyone have recommendations on how to obtain an estimate?

I mentioned contacting local construction and water mitigation companies to see if they would provide one on a fee basis but was hoping someone had a better suggestion. They haven't had any luck getting a contractor out to even take a look. This is in the PA/DE area.

Liberty Mutual Interview for "Senior Auto Claims Adjuster"?

    Posted: 20 Jan 2022 05:26 AM PST

    Hello,

I have been contacted by a recruiter with LM for a Senior Auto Claims Adjuster role. The role lists Las Vegas, NV as the primary location with Liberty Lake, WA (Spokane) as the secondary location. I am in Spokane.

I have a phone interview scheduled in a couple of days, but am wondering if anyone here can help me out with what to expect in regards to the phone interview? How much of the phone interview will be STAR type questions, versus something else? The recruiter mentioned they are desperate for people for this particular role, here in the Liberty Lake/Spokane office (they didn't use the word desperate, but that was essentially what she said, only with much more tact, lol).

Also, what makes a "senior" auto claims adjuster role at LM? Does anyone work for LM that could help give me some tips/pointers on what this role might entail, how I can best prepare for the phone interview, etc?

Here is al ink to the job posting: https://jobs.libertymutualgroup.com/job/14724444/senior-auto-claims-adjuster-las-vegas-nv/

    TIA! :)

How exactly does cobra insurance work?

    Posted: 20 Jan 2022 05:15 AM PST

I plan on having a surgery which is partially covered by my insurance (which is tied to my employment). I am considering taking a leave from my work in order to focus on the mentioned surgery. So I had some questions about that process:

Is the coverage exactly the same? Do I have to worry about an expense that was previously covered changing?

Are my deductibles and out of pocket maximum on the same cycle? If say I leave right before a new cycle starts, will I need to worry anything regarding that?

Is there a way to preemptively sign up for cobra if I know I am leaving? Ideally, I'd deal with the transition and all relevant paperwork before I have my surgery.

    Advice needed!

    Posted: 20 Jan 2022 05:15 AM PST

Hello all, I was in a car accident which wasn't my fault on December 1st of 2021. Right when I finally got my case number a few days later I contacted her insurance company to get going on a payout. Well I haven't heard back at all from her insurance despite calling multiple times and leaving voicemails. Got put on hold once and then had to hang up because of work. I also tried getting a different adjuster but that didn't work. What do I do? I need the money. Thanks for any info given!

Currently working as a CAT IA and love the work but the work/life balance is almost non-existent. Is there an insurance adjuster path that has more flexible hours/days? I don't mind 60+ hrs some weeks but I need a little time to myself now and then.

Disability Claim Denied, What to Change for the Appeal (NC, USA)

    Posted: 19 Jan 2022 03:33 PM PST

Flaired health insurance as disability isn't listed as an option. Location: NC, USA

    Hey folks,

I experienced a few months of severe depression and anxiety last year that lead to my taking of a short term disability claim with my insurance (provided through my employer). I returned to work a few months later and am now happily employed elsewhere.

I learned that my claim had been denied over the phone, but I have not received the denial letter they say was sent out two weeks ago. The insurance phone rep mentioned that the notes my healthcare provider gave them didn't provide enough evidence to support a claim; would the denial letter have any additional information that would be helpful in filing an appeal?

My plan for the appeal is to provide documentation from my GP that would show the massive weight loss I experienced. While this was a symptom of my depression, I do not know if it would matter to my insurer. If the notes my psychiatrist provided were insufficient, is there any other potential evidence to back my claim I might be missing?

Lastly, as for the appeal notice itself, does anyone have any recommendations as far as tone and content? I will factually lay out my additional documented evidence, but am uncertain if I should include anecdotal evidence like changes to my hygiene habits. If I should include anecdotal evidence, would you recommend I continue the use of simple formal language or is a more personal appeal appropriate?

I appreciate your taking the time to read through all of this and look forward to any replies.

A driver destroyed my parked car and their insurance has been giving the runaround for weeks - what do I do?

    Posted: 19 Jan 2022 09:47 AM PST

I only have liability insurance (AAA), so when I called my insurance they said they couldn't help whatsoever.

The other cars insurance (Farmers) said they accept responsibility but not much else, and have left my car in paid city street parking, leaking oil, both axles snapped in half. It's only a matter of time until parking tickets and a $600 tow to impound occurs. I've missed days of work and have to get rides to work from friends.

I feel like Farmers is ignoring me as a bullying tactic before lowballing some settlement, hoping I'm exhausted. I don't know what to do.

Home owners insurance for older home

    Posted: 19 Jan 2022 05:34 PM PST

    Hi all

Wife and I have a home built in 1860 with a stone foundation, around 3300 sq ft. Pipes, electrical, drywall are all updated with in the last 15 years.

All the quotes we have received are $2k plus for home owners, even bundled with our vehicles.

House price was $240k in 2018 but replacement cost are all $600-700k in the quotes. We've never filed any claims or anything. Credit 700+

Is this fairly typically for an older home and should I just suck it up or keep looking?

    Thanks!

How does pet health insurance actually work?

    Posted: 19 Jan 2022 07:02 PM PST

For context, I have Healthy Paws pet health insurance.

When I first got my dog, I thought that pet health insurance was functionally like human health insurance. That technically everything should get submitted (eg my prescriptions always get covered at least somewhat by insurance). So I had been submitting her vet's visits which were way under the deductible. Not expecting them to be covered or anything, but just in case the yearly expenses ended up hitting the deductible.

Then I dealt with a fire and learned that most insurance doesn't work that way, and that filing claims (eg for things like mold) not only increases your monthly payment, but that after repeated claims it can get you dropped from your insurance completely. Essentially, you should be avoiding claims like the plague.

My dog is going to need a surgery and I'm wondering the best way to proceed here. It does cost but it's well within my emergency funds to cover. Would it be a stupid move to claim it and should I just eat up the cost so that I'm not dropped in case something much bigger and more expensive comes up? Or is it normal to claim it like it would be human health insurance?

    Thanks!

    What does “pending” mean?

    Posted: 19 Jan 2022 06:18 PM PST

I am a Michigan resident who recently got an auto policy through Auto Owners Ins. I logged into the online portal for Auto Owners and it says in my options for the policies I have "Pending Personal Automobile." I just want to know what "pending" means. My bill has been paid, and the policy is currently effective so I don't know what's pending.

Is dental insurance with adult ortho that hard to find?

    Posted: 19 Jan 2022 09:35 PM PST

    Note: Self Employed

Searched through many quote engines/blogs such as eHealth and Investopedia, all of which claimed certain plans covered ortho. However, upon pulling up the plans on their homesites, I found ortho coverage would be for children only. This happened for Aetna, BCBS, and pretty much everyone.

Only found Cigna Dental 1500 for $40/mo that pays for $1K of Orthodontia after 6 months waiting (NJ).

Is this the only option I have?

Totaled my car while waiting for previous accident payout

    Posted: 19 Jan 2022 08:12 PM PST

Howdy friends, hoping y'all can help me out here.

I was rear ended in a hit and run. Person who hit me came clean when the police showed up at their house and their insurance was going to pay for my bumper repairs. Got a quote from a body shop, sent it to their claims department and got told I should be good to take my car in and that their insurance would pay me. Still waiting on that money to come along.

HOWEVER. Weather got real shitty on my drive home yesterday. When I was faced with smacking into another car or trying to slow my new snow sled on the shoulder of the freeway, I went for the latter. Unfortunately came to a stop around a sturdy sapling. Airbags deployed, front end is fifty shades of fucked up, back bumper is smashed. Hasn't been seen by an adjuster because they can't pull it out of the snow yet. She's 100% totaled.

What should I do in regards to the previous claim? Obviously won't need to take my car to get the bumper fixed. I could certainly use the 1700 bones from that claim to put towards my next car. But I'm unsure of the legality of that.

    Any help is greatly appreciated!

Got Hit and Run-ed and Need Advice

    Posted: 19 Jan 2022 08:01 PM PST

    Hi,

Got rear-ended hit and run on the highway and desperately need some insurance advice. Have gotten the initial incident report from my insurance company and they are telling me I can proceed to fix the car with my own insurance with a $1000 deductible.

What I want to know is whether I should pursue the claim with the opposing party, since he is 100% at fault. I have acquired the car owner's information and insurance policy number, but he is saying that he "forgot" to pay for his insurance at the start of the month and it may be expired. The owner of the car is also claiming that he was not the one driving, and his car was coincidentally stolen the morning of the accident, and he just did not have time to file a police report for the stolen vehicle.

At this point, I don't have uninsured motorist coverage and although I did file a claim through his policy number, I am unsure whether I can successfully complete my claim through his insurance. My two choices are either

    1) Fix my car with my own insurance asap, pay $1000 deductible and try to claim that back from his insurance later. More importantly I am worried going through my insurance will up my future premium costs and leave an accident claim on my record even though I was not at fault.

    2) Wait for the claim on his insurance to go through, which will take 2 weeks approx, since it will hinge on speed of the police report and Geico's efficiency. Live without a car for a bit longer in hopes that his insurance may come through.

How bad is it to go with scenario 1, will I be getting my premium raised if I go through my own insurance? Is it likely that I can get reimbursed through his insurance at all since car owner "claims" he is not even the driver, and may end up being someone that cannot pay up anyways? Any and all advice is much appreciated, it's been an absolute nightmare dealing with a potentially uninsured hit-and-run.

Okay to share full insurance coverage details with broker?

    Posted: 19 Jan 2022 07:39 PM PST

My All State homeowner, umbrella, and auto policies are up for renewal and I reached out to a local insurance broker to shop quotes. This broker has almost 200 positive Yelp reviews and certainly seem reputable and one of their quotes looks very intriguing to me. However, I want to be sure that my coverages meet or exceed my current one and would like to save my coverage details for each of the three policies to PDF and send to the agent for comparison. These documents will have my policy numbers and all the various All State coverages and I'm wondering if this would be safe to do. Any advice?

Other vehicles insurance says my dashcam footage doesn’t matter and I’m at fault. Other driver caused $4000 in bumper repairs and my insurance says I’m not at fault.

    Posted: 19 Jan 2022 03:46 PM PST

I was turning left and after this accident, all she kept yelling was she had the right of way while the vehicle was stopped. Her insurance agent said she doesn't even have to look at the dashcam footage because any vehicle entering an intersection assumes risk. Does this mean I can just crash in people turning in front of me when I'm stopped?

    USAA CORRUPTION/FRAUD

    Posted: 19 Jan 2022 07:26 PM PST

I was rear ended on i580 near Pleasanton (CA) on thanksgiving day, and propelled into the car in front of me, totaling my 2004 Honda Odyssey. (Person in front of me slammed on their brakes, I slammed on mine and came to a complete stop a few feet behind them, car behind me slammed into my car which caused a chain reaction) My partner and dog were in the car and none of us were seriously injured. The person driving the other car behind me admitted fault to: me, the police officer on scene, my insurance adjuster and his own insurance, USAA.

USAA called me to set up a time to tow my car to their inspection station, where it was declared a total loss. I received a settlement offer from USAA in the amount of $5,227.53. I wanted to make sure that I could find a comparable car to replace mine for the amount they were offering, (the used car market in CA right now is insane) so I did not immediately accept the offer. When I did attempt to settle a couple weeks later, I was not able to get into the portal, and after about an hour of calling to tech support, was told to wait for a call back from a tech specialist who would help me access the portal to settle. While waiting for this call, I instead received a call from the USAA adjuster telling me that they were rescinding the settlement because they think that there is conflicting information on the police report. Though the report is confusing, it clearly states at the bottom under "CAUSE" that the person who rear ended me, USAA's insured, was responsible for the accident. Although this is the final statement on the report and is corroborated by the person who hit me, USAA insists that I must have hit the car in front of me before being rear-ended. When I ask for a reason behind this decision, they now claim that the damages on my car are "physically impossible" for my statement to be true, even though USAA's employees inspected the damages BEFORE the settlement was offered in the first place, which invalidates that explanation.

USAA has told me many times that the settlement offer I received and everything leading up to it on their end was a "big mistake made by inexperienced employees," but the staff inspecting my car's damages that came to this "physically impossible" conclusion are the same that came to the conclusion before that it was a total loss at the fault of USAAs driver. It really seems like the inspectors are just paid to agree with whatever the adjuster is saying at any given moment. The adjuster also told me that this happened because I waited too long to settle, and that if I had settled sooner than they "would have had to take" my settlement "as a loss." This feels so manipulative. The fact of the matter is that my car was stopped multiple feet behind the car in front of me when I was crashed into. The guy who hit me recalls seeing my car stopped, not seeing me crash into anyone, before his car hit mine. I even called him to update him on this, and he called USAA for me and admitted fault to them AGAIN.

I have called: probably 15 lawyers at this point, my insurance (progressive), many employees at USAA (including a manager), have requested a new adjuster (denied), legal aid centers(unable to help), and the insurance of the other person involved, and nobody has any real advice to help me. I feel so hopeless. I am a low income person living in the most expensive area in the country and $5,000 is a lot of money to me, but to USAA it is literal pocket change. They are literally listening to everyone except those of us physically involved in the accident. How are we required by law to pay these companies so much every year and when we actually need their help they do everything in their power to screw us over?

Anyone dealt with something similar or anybody working in insurance know of some loophole to help me in this situation? No lawyers are willing to help because there were no injuries. Not sure what I can do from here. Thanks for reading.

What is the value of Uninsured Motorist Insurance if I have decent medical coverage, and if valuable, how much should I have? (FL)

    Posted: 19 Jan 2022 01:27 PM PST

FL - Uninsured Motorist is not required. Everything I have read suggests that UM is about paying medical bills, loss of wages, and pain/suffering for the driver / passengers when the other drive is at-fault and does not have enough (or any) coverage.

So carrying too little UM would only get the medical insurance off the hook for medical bills, right? I would have to carry enough UM so that after the medical bills were covered, loss of wages and pain/suffering would kick in. Even in that case, how is pain/suffering determined? Hopefully not by the insurance company that has to pay out.

It makes me think that the only way UM is valuable to me is to carry a lot, but $250K/$500K non-stacked is running me about $800/year for two cars. Am I better off letting my medical, STD, LTD, and ADD through my employer cover me instead of UM?

Please let me know what I am off on here, as I am not an insurance expert. Thank you kindly.

I am currently debating my options of whether I should go into insurance , such as become an underwriter, in the excess & surplus lines for a large carrier. Or if I should become a risk analyst, with the hope of one day becoming a Risk manage?

Any experiences to share? Any advice?

I was always decent at math, and statistics. I'm not sure which route to take.

Not sure if this is the right sub , but I figured many people will have experience in the field and have debated this same Topic.

Vehicle Accident While in Dealership Posession

My partners insurance does not cover them for driving outside the United States, which we promptly sought to rectify by changing providers. During this process, the vehicle went in for some work at the dealership and was the middle car in a double rear ender while the dealership had it on a road test. What avenues do you recommend, if any, should we take in pursuit of this?
