Too many of you have never experienced a stock market crash, and it shows. Posted: 01 Jan 2022 07:34 PM PST I recently published my portfolio for 2022, and caught some grief for having 27% of my money allocated for cash, cash equivalents, and bonds. Heck, I'm 58, so that was pretty appropriate. But something occurred to me, I am willing to bet many of you barely remember 2008, probably don't remember 2000-2002, and weren't even alive for 1987. If you are insisting on a 100% all-equity portfolio, feel free. But, the question is whether you have a plan when the market takes a 50% toilet dump? What will you do? Did you reserve some cash to respond? Do you have any rebalancing options? Never judge a crusty veteran, when you have never fought a war. [link] [comments] |
If you had 10k right now, what would you do with it? Posted: 01 Jan 2022 04:47 PM PST If you had no stocks, a car note under 8k, and lived with your parents…because this is my situation. I want my own place soon but can't necessarily afford to live on my own but I have a good career im working towards at least. Edit: ok seriously, no more coke and hooker comments [link] [comments] |
Which 1 stock would you buy and hold for the rest of your life? Posted: 01 Jan 2022 06:15 PM PST Warren Buffett has talked about the concept of a "punchcard". Imagine you have a punchcard and it has 20 spots. These 20 spots represent the only 20 companies that you are allowed to buy for your entire lifetime. I think about the punchcard a lot and love the concept, as it makes me think deeply about whether or not I would use 1 of my 20 "punches" on a given company that I am analyzing. On this topic, what is the #1 company that you would feel confident "punching" on your card and holding for the rest of your life? Mine is Amazon. With AMD’s planned $35b acquisition of XLNX in q1 of 2022 is it worth the buy? Posted: 01 Jan 2022 09:40 PM PST Doing research for expanding my portfolio and fell into researching AMD and their planned acquisition that was delayed to sometime this quarter and wanted to see if it would be worth investing in now before it takes place and seeing if it rises. Thoughts on Synchrony Financial ($SYF) Posted: 01 Jan 2022 09:01 PM PST Curious on people's thought's on Synchrony (SYF). It seems cheap, trading at a PE of 6.5x. They announced a $1b share buyback, on top of an existing $1.5b buyback. So that means they will have bought back 10% of their stock in the next 6 months. At their recent investor day, they also gave the target of double digit EPS growth. They have also partnered with PayPal, and have launched a BNPL product. Buffet previously owned it, so presumably the management team must be top notch It seems like a company with good prospects and financials, so why is it trading at a discount? [link] [comments] |
Posted: 01 Jan 2022 06:03 PM PST I don't mind paying if it's good…Fidelity has the best in the game as far as I'm concerned. I was regularly finding runners of the day a week or two before the general public got wind. Unfortunately they closed my account for cussing out their chat bot but that's another post. Anyone have a good app for stock screening? I do short term swings and will scalp the occasional squeeze, but that's it. [link] [comments] |
Do I have to max out my Roth ever year? Posted: 01 Jan 2022 03:43 PM PST I think the common advice that everyone has when it comes to investing in general is to max out your roth and 401K as the main priority before thinking about anything else. But I'm not sure if it's the best advice for my scenario. I'm expected to go into medical school within the next few years and know I'll have to end up taking a loan. Instead of putting the money I make from my part time in my Roth and not having access to it until I'm 55+, shouldn't I be looking to pool that money in a taxable or just in a savings account so that in 4-5 years I have access to it to pay down my student loans? I don't make enough where 6K a year is an insignificant amount of money to me. [link] [comments] |
$ATER - Why am I still bullish? Posted: 01 Jan 2022 06:06 PM PST ATER suffered financially due to their debt and lower than anticipated cash as they needed to use their cash to pay exorbitant export fees which are now 4 to 5 times lower than what they used to be in Q2'2021. Aterian told its investors in Nov 2021 that Amazon's ocean freight service helped it "secure very competitive shipping rates" for products that are expected to generate half of its expected sales in the next year. Amazon and merchants like Aterian have a shared goal: Making sure that there are enough products on virtual shelves for us to buy. Amazon has the money and the heft to arm-twist ocean cargo companies so its merchants can send their products at an affordable price. Aterian is benefiting from this, and they have sorted their debt - check the Annual Net Operating Cash Flow from the below: https://www.wsj.com/market-data/quotes/ATER/financials I'm personally very bullish with ATER and have high expectations in terms of EPS Q4'2021 in March (next ER). Omicron seems to be less critical than previous covid strains so current risk outlook for economic destabilisation is lower than it was before. Less likely to affect fees, warehousing and product logistics. What makes you doubt a positive outlook? It's current stock performance makes you doubt whether this play is a good one? I don't blame you for that, that's what the HF wants us to feel - shorts are beating the crap out of that stock, despite big whales buying small to medium batches of shares. Many investors have become bag holder back in September, as HFs managed to kill the squeeze opportunity by stopping the run up from $3 to $18 by short ladder attacks, increase of short position, negative media coverage and of course darkpool shorts (which are being investigated by SEC after Yaniv (ATER CEO) funded an investigation via a third party legal firm (still ongoing). $3.11 is the bottom (historically) and it was All Time Low when the outlook for ATER was a lot less promising. So current price (below $4.50) is a great entry point. ATER is a growth stock and also a potential squeeze play. Finally, you should know that SI is 32% currently. Have faith - but do your own DD. Thanks for reading. [link] [comments] |
How do stockbrokers buy stocks? Posted: 01 Jan 2022 09:17 PM PST Do they buy them directly from the company? or from the exchange? if so, how do they access the exchange? Take for example NYSE, is there an api made by NYSE? if not, how do brokers send off their trades to them? [link] [comments] |
Posted: 02 Jan 2022 12:06 AM PST Hello fellas! I am in Canada and in my early twenties and am thinking of investing about $1000 in the stock market. I was wondering what kind of taxes am I looking at if I do buy some stocks? Do you pay taxes even if you only own the stock and aren't selling it? Does this also change how much tax return I get at the end of the year? Any help is deeply appreciated! [link] [comments] |
Posted: 01 Jan 2022 04:06 PM PST Hi guys. 20M, Recently I dipped my toe in the pond so to speak when it comes to stocks and such. Obviously I've got a considerable amount of learning to do. I'm lurked around this thread for quite awhile and have been able to pick up on a lot of basic things. I'm currently using an app called Wealthsimple trade as I was recommended that app due to its straightforward preface and what not. Though I was just wondering, what other brokerages are out there and which ones you guys use. Any thoughts about wealthsimple as well for those that might be using it or have used it in the past. I'm currently using TFSA and have invested about 5000 into Tesla, Shift Technologies, RBC, and NVIDIA and I plan to hold for now and kind of learn what to expect. Anyways gladly appreciate it!
