Posted: 12 Jan 2022 12:48 PM PST I just started my home bakery business after many friends and family told me for years that I should. I've been getting few sales here and there but not where I would like, but I know I'll get there. Anyways, yesterday I got a message from a lady asking me to do the dessert table for her daughters birthday in May. Paw Patrol themed. Of course I was jumping with joy. Then she said she wanted 6 different desserts and 30 piece for each. So in total 180 treats. And I froze. Mostly because I don't even know what to charge her for it, I've never had an order this big and never though I would honestly. I have no idea where to begin on figuring out a price and could really use some advice! 😩 [link] [comments] |

Countless illegal locations are opening up near me and stealing my business. What do I do? Posted: 12 Jan 2022 05:27 PM PST I have owned a small smoke shop (sells tobacco, vape products, etc) in New York City for over 10+ years now, and the problem of other smoke shop locations opening without a license has never been a problem as they have been shut down after a short while. But ever since the pandemic, other smoke shops have been opening around my location without a license and have been selling all kinds of products that are already banned, such as Flavored E-Cigarettes which were banned last year during the pandemic (July), straight Marijuana which is not legal to sell in NY as of yet, cigarettes from of out state for under $10 which is significantly under the price floor in NYC, and many other illegal substances. And for all of their legal substances, they don't have any licenses from the research I have done. I have tried to contact the people who hand out the licenses to check on these businesses and have even provided the addresses, but nothing happens. Afterwards, it seems like inspections in my store have also increased. I might just be imagining it, but that is what it feels like. When I complain about the nearby stores, the inspectors say they cannot check them out because they are not in the database, and that is because they don't have a license they aren't entered in the database. I have reached out to Consumer Affairs as well in the same way, but to no avail. I have even sent a letter to the congressmen of NY months ago but nothing has changed. I am honestly not sure what to do. Ever since the pandemic, business has slowed to a crawl, and just as it was climbing back up, these locations have opened up and started selling illegal products and other products at prices below the legal limit, making it impossible to complete. I am truly lost. Is there any advice someone can give me? [link] [comments] |
What do you do when a customer doesn’t pay? Posted: 12 Jan 2022 11:39 AM PST I own a mobile service business (think along the lines of plumbing, hvac, etc.) and we expect payment when a job is finished for all customers except for a few long time, loyal commercial customers who we allow 30 days to pay. This worked great for 20 years but since the pandemic started some customers have started saying "oh so and so actually isn't in the office to pay right now." Or "Oh sorry only my accountant can pay that and they aren't here right now." So technicians have been giving them the benefit of the doubt and leaving a signed invoice with the expectation that they will mail a check or call with a card ASAP. Lately numerous customers (from seemingly reputable local businesses like doctors and dentists offices, nursing homes) have just not been paying those invoices at all. Taking all of these customers to small claims court is/ will be a huge hassle. How do you force customers to pay upon completion when the technician is still on site without being overly aggressive and potentially burning a bridge? [link] [comments] |
Any porta-jon business owners out there? Posted: 12 Jan 2022 08:15 PM PST Interested in learning more about this service line. What is the typical charge per unit and cost to empty a truck? [link] [comments] |
Best Website Designs / Agency Recommendations Posted: 13 Jan 2022 01:51 AM PST I own an e-commerce company and I'm looking to upgrade our website. I started looking at freelancers, and while there was certainly some good ones, I just couldn't help but feel like none of them truly "wow'd" me. I wanted the quality of my website to be at the tier of some of the larger brands that are very cool/unique while staying having incredible UX. So I've decided to start looking into high end web design agencies. Generally I'm not a fan of agencies because they add a large markup for services I could just hire a freelancer for, but for a very high end quality website I realize it might be my best option. I started looking up unique website designs and reached out to a few who in turn kindly gave me the name of the agency who made their website. 1) I'd love to collect some more design inspiration -- list below any websites (ecommerce preferred) that've really wow'd you 2) Recommendations for great agency's? Anyone approved for a small business loan? Posted: 12 Jan 2022 05:57 PM PST I apologize in advance if this it too vague. I do not know a lot about starting a business or running one, but I am currently a nurse and feel like I cannot do it any more. Husband and I have around 70k in the bank, and originally were going to do a business for him. He does not put forth the effort. I have done a lot of research and find daycares to be extremely profitable. I am writing a business plan right now for the first step. The sample business plan online I found is only 4 pages long and didn't seem to be good enough to ask for a lot of money. To build a daycare center, we are estimating a cost of 800k with land included. Does it even make sense to ask for that much money? I guess I won't know until I try. Credit score is around 800. Only have house and one vehicle (18k) financed. TLDR; Need 800k business loan. Should I even try [link] [comments] |
Everything is under a magnifying glass Posted: 13 Jan 2022 01:06 AM PST I own a business that supports disabled people, and I have found that if I share something on my personal social media then everyone loves it, they really support what I've said. However, if I were to post the same thing on my company's social media page, suddenly it gets taken completely out of context and turned into something negative. And it's really getting me down. The problem I also face is I can't delete most of the comments otherwise I'll be accused of silencing voices etc which of course I don't want to do. I always comment politely and ask for feedback on a better way to word things etc but they never reply or continue to absolutely roast me. Mostly they just don't reply. Nowadays most posts and content goes through my board of panel members for approval. But even then someone will still take what is said out of context, and the problem is that others read their comments and then assume that what that person said is the context it should be read in and then as you can imagine can sometimes turn ugly. I will add, my business does have a huge amount of support, it's usually only one or two people, but it's enough to distress me and I'm struggling with how to respond and react emotionally. People aren't as likely to say they love something, they just leave a like and share. Looking for advice on how to handle these situations. [link] [comments] |
My experience using different marketing strategies as a new business. Posted: 12 Jan 2022 05:28 PM PST Your mileage may vary for your business but maybe this will help anyone struggling with where to put your marketing dollars for the most exposure. So I've been in business six months in one of the fastest growing regions in the nation (southwest Florida). It's a cleaning business where we do residential and commercial cleaning. As cleaning supplies and equipment isn't too expensive, we've been showing a strong profit and growth since month 2. Facebook and Instagram ads: I ran an awesome promo deal through Facebook and Instagram ads. A deep home clean for $100 for up to 2600 Sq ft home. I saw NO business after running this ad for over a month on both platforms. Nextdoor app: I ran the same ad for over a month on Nextdoor. I got one customer from the is ad and it was the same day it started running. No other return from this. Yelp: Against my better judgment, I paid for yelp services. I bought an ad, paid for the extras where it shows local people searching for your services. I got quite a bit of business from this in the first few months. I also secured a commercial business we clean for everyday and get a great monthly income from now from Yelp. I quit paying for yelp and all my 5 star ratings disappeared. So yelp helped greatly but also are harmful once you stop using them. Personal website: I had a website built and a local seo company help boost it. I see maybe one customer every other week from this. Local Facebook groups: I have seen a ton of business from these groups. The key is to posting at the right times of the day Local chamber of commerce: Haven't seen one ounce of business from this. I haven't had time to go to events on top of that fact that every event you go to charges $15-$100 per event. Local BNI Chapter: This has proven to get tons of repeat business. Every member of my BNI has sent me good customers and some of them have become customers themselves. Joining a bni has already paid for itself 10 times over. So here's how I spent my money and where I have seen business from so far. Maybe this will help anyone else in a similar situation. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 13 Jan 2022 12:51 AM PST I am getting liability insurance but I do dog training, pet sitting and walking. I'm going to pick my clients carefully (No Karen's so to speak) but will forming an LLC protect my personal assets? The business itself won't have a lot of assets anyway outside of a handful of harnesses and training tools. I'm married and don't want my husband to end up with an fallout if someone's dog slips the owners collar and runs off, or someone's home is robbed while I'm doing drop in visits, or a dog I'm at the dog park with get's attacked. I'm getting the highest insurance coverage but I'm still worried about possible fallout. Would it even matter if the customer sued me for say...negligence not the business anyway? So like, what would happen if I had an LLC vs a DBA? [link] [comments] |
Posted: 13 Jan 2022 12:16 AM PST I had a thought the other day about what it would take to start up a small winter de-icing business/project. Mostly because I live on a small estate and the amount of people that leave their engines on for ages rather than scraping or spraying is mad. I guess the idea might look like a local window cleaner… I know working on People's cars might need some insurance. But is there any thing else? Would this be possible? Anyone tried something similar? [link] [comments] |

Is it possible to start a domain selling business as a bootstrapper? Posted: 12 Jan 2022 11:38 PM PST In a flash of thought, I think I've got a good model for a domain business. But currently, I don't have any finance or network. Is it possible to start a domain business as an indie maker? Are there any complexities associated with domain business? Starting an MSSP (Cyber Security) Company. Posted: 12 Jan 2022 11:25 PM PST Hello Reddit, I'm 21 years old I'm currently pursuing a degree in cyber security and computer forensics. I have always been passionate about technology since I was a young kid. I started getting into hacking and playing around with different stuff related to it. So I feel I'm competent enough in this area to start my own Managed Security Service Provider (MSSP). It will be mostly defensive cyber security solutions like Incident Response, Threat Detection, Endpoint Detection & Response, SOC and then your general IT MSP services like configuring network devices, servers, remote support etc. I'm still working on figuring out my niche in terms of what industrys I would like to provide my services to. Ex.) Aerospace, Energy, Industrial etc. I feel I'm close to narrowing it down to who I would like to have as a client. I have a name, logo, domain + website, and am familiar with all the tools I will be using for my clients. -MAIN QUESTION: How should I go about marketing & sales? I'm familiar with social media marketing practices. But sales on the other hand what's a good way to start hunting for my first potential customers? Is it just as simple as me cold calling tons of companies and pitching them my service using a sales strategy like the Straight line selling method (Jordan Belforts method.) I would imagine it would be a few things but is cold calling the most effective? I'm trying to network with other entrepenaurs who may need IT services aswell and use that as a potential avenue for clients. I also understand using technical buzz words to make my product sound sophisticated is not a good way to go about it. And that I should focus on selling it in a way that makes them feel it will be beneficial to there business. Thanks [link] [comments] |
How do I pay for my EIDL loan? Posted: 12 Jan 2022 11:18 PM PST I completely forgot about it since I never got anything regarding payment. I've yet to receive even a statement or link to a dashboard. I've made sure to vet all SBA related emails, but nothing. Edit: spelling [link] [comments] |
Posted: 12 Jan 2022 07:16 PM PST For years I've had difficulty hiring employees. I've eventually found them and been happy to pay them what I do but I suspect the problem is I'm not paying enough. I don't want to pay more than I have to since I've been, for the last 3 years, I have been living pay check to pay check. I want to pay a fair wage though but I would like to know how to determine what this is I'm trying to hire now and it's a pain in the ass like usual. I'm looking for people who can do packaging / manual labor type tasks. It requires no skill and I've had 16 year olds do it before. I suspect part of the issue is it's the kind of job normal people don't search for. People who work at grocery stores / restaurants don't look for packaging jobs. What's a good way to determine what I should be paying for this? And what else should I be doing to get my job in front of the right people ? [link] [comments] |

Faire Wholesale Payment Details/ Routing Number Posted: 12 Jan 2022 10:28 PM PST Hello! I am wondering if there are any small business owners/ makers from Canada having their store on Faire Wholesale? I got accepted and received my first order however it was so overwhelming when I was setting up everything, I left the crucial payment section empty (payment account number and routing number). I still need to accept the order but I couldn't yet since I am an idiot who launched the shop without adding payment details. (its a very small order from which Faire took 25% ugh) I am worried how to get the routing number - their guide says if you are out of US (so Canadian makers like me) will need to register to OFX or other 3rd party websites to get the routing no. Please help me how should I proceed. Any help would be greatly appreciated 🙏 thank you! [link] [comments] |

Which software do you use to generate quotations? Posted: 12 Jan 2022 09:08 PM PST Do you to the nature of my business I need to generate multilingual quotations which I can easily do with Microsoft Word and Excel but the problem is no matter how hard I try, over time the tables, spacing, fonts, etc. all change slowly as quotations are reused by our employees to save on time, copy/paste, make their modifications in text, etc. I am like a broken record having to keep reminding everyone to not change anything, start from a blank template, etc. but I guess it's impossible to perfectly discipline everyone. I tried locking things up with macros but I guess I'm not experienced enough in that to get the results I wanted. I ended up getting a template that was so stiff that I couldn't write up the quotations as I wanted to. I tried exploring some invoice generating web services but they weren't customizable enough for us. Any recommendations? [link] [comments] |
