Posted: 30 Jan 2022 03:39 AM PST My husband was rear-ended at 20mph in California by a guy with Fred Loya insurance. Our car is an old beater and we have liability insurance only, so we've been stuck dealing with Fred Loya ourselves. After two months of delays, our car was deemed a total loss. They admitted fault. They called my husband and told him we could keep the car, and they'd send us $5000, the maximum allowed by the insured's policy. A couple weeks ago they told us the check was in the mail, but lo and behold we still haven't gotten it. I filed a complaint with the state Dept. of Insurance today and saw the offer letter myself for the first time. The offer letter (which is confusing/vague as hell) says the actual market value of our car is $5000, and we're retaining that value. The other option was that they'd come take the car, and we'd get nothing (a $0 payout). I think they lied to my husband on the phone, and we're not due a check. But how can they offer us $0 if they came to take the car? It makes no sense, and of course it's not explained. This company is the scum of the earth. Obviously we'll be upgrading our insurance when we eventually buy a nicer car. But is there anything else we can do, outside taking the driver to small claims court? He doesn't have a pot to piss in so it'd be a waste of time/more money. Thanks! [link] [comments] |
Posted: 30 Jan 2022 05:54 AM PST Our house does not have gas service. I'm planning on installing a pellet stove to supplement the heating for really cold periods. Would this increase homeowner premiums since it is burning things inside? Also, what about landlord's insurance if I use it as a rental? [link] [comments] |

Posted: 29 Jan 2022 01:33 PM PST Hoping someone can give me some advice. We are trying to re-fi our home here in Florida and in the process get some extra money to replace our 24 year old roof. Our insurance rep tells me that they've received notice that our carrier will be dropping us mid-April unless we replace the roof. We aren't sure when the loan will if it does, go thru, but the loan company won't give us the loan unless we show that we can show that we are insured for a year from the time we request the loan. So...We seem to be stuck in a Catch-22...we can't get the loan to replace our roof unless we replace the roof we are trying to get a loan for...and we can't get the loan unless we show we have homeowners insurance for a year...but our insurance is going to expire in 4 months....unless we replace our roof but we can't replace the roof unless we get the loan. Dizzy, yet? Got any brilliant ideas? Thanks! [link] [comments] |
Why doesn't Geico care about fraud committed against them by body shops? Posted: 29 Jan 2022 10:26 AM PST My car was involved in a hit & run and I used my collision and UMPD coverages for the repair at a body shop. My claims adjuster suggested a couple of Geico partner shops to take it to, but I looked them up online and they had poor reviews. Most shops I called also couldn't get the car in for at least a month or two. I found a small shop outside of town that had some good reviews online and they could get it in right away. They took a month to do the repairs, which used up my rental car coverage, and the repairs are very poor. They used the wrong color and their estimate included expensive body panels that they did not replace and other body work they did not do, such as blending. They did not blend anything. I brought this to the attention of my claims adjuster and they were not interested. As far they are concerned their duty is done. They paid the shop, end of story. I got the same response from their supervisor and their supervisor's supervisor. I also reported it to Geico's fraud department and they told me it is my fault because I didn't choose one of their partner shops. Is this typical? The shop could have just painted a big smiley face on my car and they wouldn't care at all. [link] [comments] |
Experience with water leak in condo Posted: 30 Jan 2022 01:36 AM PST Hello, I was wondering if anyone has any experience that they don't mind sharing with dealing with water damage resulting from a leak, and how did home insurance and strata insurance dealt with it? Thank you! [link] [comments] |
Posted: 29 Jan 2022 11:31 PM PST I was driving to my first day of work. I stopped at a red light at a traffic light/ intersection. The light turned green so I proceeded forward like normal. Randomly in the blink of an eye there was a car right in front of mine going horizontally left (he must have ran his light) and so I ended up T boning that person. A few seconds after the crash the person skirted off and left the scene. I called the police and people told me what they could make out of the license plate. I called my insurance and the police. I have liability insurance. They seem to be investing before they get back to me with a resolution but I feel like they're going to come back with bad news and never find the driver. This is bad bc if they don't find him his insurance will not pay for my car.. and what if he doesn't have insurance at all ?? What can I do if they don't find the other driver ? [link] [comments] |
Need Help Getting Off Of Abusive Fathers Insurance Posted: 29 Jan 2022 06:20 PM PST Hey everyone! This is a bit of a tricky/depressing situation so I could really use some help. Long story short I'm 22, grew up with abusive parents and was very poor. I've finally accomplished something with my life and now have a very successful career with a great company. I'm now wanting to swap over to my company's insurance plan but they said I needed documentation to prove my father took me off of his. The problem is I know he took me off in January and I cut off all contact in mid-December. I don't even have my insurance card anymore. I know you might be reading this thinking "Just text him and ask" but trust me, it's that bad. Is there anyway I can convince the insurance company to provide me documentation showing I was off of the account using information like my social security number? We're talking about cigna by the way, any help would be greatly appreciated and thank you for your time! [link] [comments] |
Long Term Disability Insurance Customer Service Posted: 29 Jan 2022 09:51 PM PST Which long term disability insurance companies provide the best customer service and have a low claims denial percentage? Given it's an expensive product I want to make sure that if I file a ltd claim that it'll be accepted. Ameritas and Standard are the cheapest options for me but there's also Guardian, Principal, MetLife, Mass Mutual, etc. I've noticed there are a lot of negative reviews about the Standard but not sure if that's just due to a large market share. Which ones are good and which should I avoid? Thanks for your help on this! [link] [comments] |
Posted: 29 Jan 2022 03:31 PM PST Initially posted in r/StateFarm State: Oregon A SF-insured driver hit my front bumper in a parking lot and stuck around to share information. I am also insured by SF. I own a Porsche and SF estimate wants to repair the bumper. The shop I chose is a Porsche Approved Collision Center. Their estimator said I need a new bumper. The difference is about a thousand dollars. They told me that they would advocate for me to get a new bumper or try to get more hours to do the repair approved to make up some of the difference but that I may be responsible for the balance. Given I was not at fault how will that work since it's SF vs SF and I only want OEM by a certified repair shop? To be completely transparent I did try to get an estimate at another shop where I've had work before and they won't even consider giving me an estimate BECAUSE I have SF and was told they have too difficult a time being paid by SF when other damage is found and it's an awkward conversation to have with the customer when trying to collect. Same shop had similar complaints from other SF customers with domestic vehicles. [link] [comments] |

Is it 100% a requirement to have a current home inspection to get insurance quotes? Posted: 29 Jan 2022 02:35 PM PST My last inspection is about a year old, nothing has changed. My house was build in 1960 but my roof and HVAC is brand new (1 year ish old) and it passed everything. My insurance (Florida) doubled recently and I'm gonna start shopping for new rates, should I just bite the bullet, spend the $500 and get another inspection. Or is not needed? [link] [comments] |
Posted: 29 Jan 2022 08:18 PM PST I wasn't able to make my car insurance payment, and it got cancelled with usaa. The next day, I was in a car accident. The officer didn't investigate and the other driver left the scene. I was under the impression I had no insurance because I was nearly a month behind. I thought it got cancelled the day before. Well, Center point energy filed a claim to my insurance. I received a voicemail saying that there is a case number, and I need to speak with a rep to get the facts /details about fault… and who the assigned rep is…. I am very confused? Would ussa assign someone and make a case number if I was no longer covered?? Is this just formality?? Or would this mean I was in fact covered at that time ? [link] [comments] |
3rd party insurance for truck rental Posted: 29 Jan 2022 07:30 PM PST I'm renting a 15" box truck for a moving trip for a day or 2 from one of the major truck rental companies. I know what they offer for extra insurance. My personal auto insurance doesn't provide coverage for trucks. Just to see what my options are, are there any 3rd party insurance companies that provide cheaper coverage for these day truck rentals? [link] [comments] |
Difference In Accident Insurance & Health Insurance Posted: 29 Jan 2022 07:24 PM PST Seeking clarification on how and where accidental insurance coverage would kick in with health coverage. Does it provide wage compensation? How much does it cover for out of pocket expenses. Any help explaining would be great. [link] [comments] |
It off luck and running out of time on my condo policy Posted: 29 Jan 2022 11:33 AM PST I'll be as clear and concise as I can be. I have been with my current insurance company for 18 years. They are my auto for 18, and home owners on my condo for two, and before the home owners renters policy holder for 8. I have had three claims in the last two years and 1 claim on the renters before that. The renters claim was a break in with damage and theft. The home owners claims were water damage from my upstairs neighbors fridge line falling, a second was water damage from the faucet in my new place failing, and the third was bike theft which I realize now I should not have claimed. I'm being dropped by my current company but cannot get picked up by a new company. I've tried farmers, all state, American family, geico, amica(sp?), Erie, progressive, nation wide, and in running out of gas. I can't imagine the other agencies would care to look at me. So, what are my options so I don't lose my mortgage because I don't have insurance? I'm starting to freak out that I'll lose what I've worked so hard for and I'm getting upset because I'm a good customer who knew my local agent personally (small suburb). I pay my bills on time, direct deposit / paperless, and have a full time job. I feel like I've done my part and I hate that I'm being ignored by companies even though I have to be insured. What more can I do to get insured? Thanks for any thoughtful and helpful replies. [link] [comments] |
Smoke/soot damage claim property Posted: 29 Jan 2022 10:06 AM PST Hi Looking to understand more about how this damage is determined and the decision making process to replace or clean if anyone can help. We had a small fire in our living room but there was massive smoke/soot damage in the entire house. 1) For the home structure part such as hardwood floors, drywall (is minimal we have mostly plaster), wood trim, wood cabinets, where it's hard to get out how is it determined whether to restore such as sand/seal(wood stuff) and drywall (prime/seal) versus replace? 2) For the content part the adjuster already said all of our soft goods and electronics should be replaced. So If insurance wants to replace our contents (we have the replacement policy) they would also pay for a pack out company to come, inventory it, store it, and then throw it away??Doesn't that seem wierd to pay substantial amounts for a pack out company to do this when most of our contents is deemed not salvageable and will be replaced by them? I would think they would want to just have a dump company come and take it away instead? 3) What are my next steps? We had an adjuster out last SAT and a restoration company. As is stands we are just waiting on them. Should we be doing anything else aside from compiling a list of our contents? Thanks! [link] [comments] |
Temp car cover for 26 year old, PLEASE HELP :) Posted: 29 Jan 2022 03:41 PM PST Hi guys I was wondering if anyone could help please. I'm currently living in the UK, 26 years old and want to get insured on a 2001 BMW X5 (V8)… I've been passed for about 7/8 years now… I've tried loads of temp car cover companies, such as Cuvva and Zoom just to name a couple.. but it's always that the car is too old or that I'm too young lol 😅. Can anyone please recommend the best option/company to use as it's getting frustrating now and looks like I won't be able to get insured from anywhere. [link] [comments] |

Posted: 29 Jan 2022 02:11 PM PST So I'm 27(f) and have worked in customer service and as a nursing assistant my whole life while trying my best to figure out what I want to go to college for, or I guess "what I want to be when I grow up". To be honest, nothing is that intriguing to me except something that will help me make enough money, and have the work/life balance for my real passion. My real passion, competitive horse back riding, unfortunately takes you already having money if you want to make it. So I figured if I can make enough to support it I'll be happy. I have heard good things about the income and work/life balance that medical and life insurance sales employees have. If I were to take the leap and get my license would it be worth it? Any advice anyone has would be great. I'm located in KY if that helps. [link] [comments] |
Mom is out of surgery. Wondering if we can get something we bought covered? Posted: 29 Jan 2022 09:58 AM PST Insurance: Aetna POS Choice II (Illinois) Background: My mom had a mass removed from her stomach (it was size of a 7-8 month fetus). She's now home and recovering. Before she came home we bought her an adjustable bed and put it in the living room because she can't walk upstairs. Below is a link to bed frame: Serta Motion iSeries Adjustable Base | Mattress Firm Below is a link to the mattress: Sealy Posturepedic® Hybrid Norman 12" Medium Mattress | Mattress Firm We've also bought her compression boots for blood clots. I'm waiting on the doctor to write the scripts and send them to me. However, my question is -- do you think these would be covered? To my understanding, we needed to use an approved DME provider and device for both. Any insights would be great. FYI -- I have a pretty good understanding of insurance. I work for a third-party billing vendor. However, not in the DME space so you can feel free to use industry-standard knowledge. [link] [comments] |
