Auto lease is a total loss, and ACV > Payoff. Posted: 04 Jan 2022 03:52 AM PST I was recently involved in an auto accident and my car was determined to be a total loss. Insurance determined the value of my vehicle to be nearly $15,000 more than the payoff on my BMW lease. I was happy to be informed by the insurance company that they would only issue what is owed to BMW, and any remaining cash would be deposited directly to me. Yeah, that didn't happen. BMW Financial Services told the insurance company that my payoff was exactly in the amount that they determined the value to be, leaving me with a balance of zero on my lease. It also appears they have zero intention of issuing any of that overage to me. I read through my leasing contract and it is ambiguous on whether or not they would keep any overages. But BMW is keen on profiting on other people's misery and losses, apparently. It's an understatement to say that I'm disappointed. Is there any way I could get this overage in my hands? Or do I just accept my bad luck and move on? Now I'm out of a car for an accident that wasn't my fault, get none of that overage cash, AND get to pay double for a comparable lease since this car market is wild. Feeling just wonderful. Had an Upper GI, dr. was in-network, but just received a hospital bill for over $10,000 Posted: 03 Jan 2022 08:24 PM PST Texas-UnitedHealthcare So I had an upper GI done in Nov. 2021. I just got a notification from the UHC app that the hospital used was "out of network". I paid $873.86 before I was even able to be prepped for the procedure. I don't understand how this happened. Why would the doctors (who is in my network) office even let me have surgery there if the hospital is out of network? Wouldn't they or the hospital at the very least have checked to make sure they were in my network? I don't know what I'm supposed to do from here. Can anyone help me by telling me what to do? Call hospital? Appeal through UHC (I see "appeal" button on the claim page)? It says "you may owe $10,681.61", then it says "amount not covered $9,807.85", It says "partially denied". People who owns tesla(s), what are your insurance rates like? Posted: 03 Jan 2022 12:32 PM PST Read some posts on various stating small scratches/bents damage could cost thousands in repairs. So I figured the premiums would be pretty high. [link] [comments] |
Accident claim that doesn't make sense? Posted: 03 Jan 2022 06:28 PM PST Hi everyone, I recently received a voicemail from another insurance company telling me that I've been involved with an accident and they need to contact me. They mentioned the accident happened on the 21st of December but the thing is that I haven't driven my car since the 16th as I am currently visiting family for the holidays. My car is also in our private driveway. Any ideas on what to do next? I also fear it might be a scam but they did provide the insurance information, representative's name, and claim number. Thanks! Looking for tips on my total loss / Owner Retention. Posted: 03 Jan 2022 10:48 PM PST Hello everyone and thanks in advance. My Tesla was deemed totaled after it was hit while parked. Their insurance provided a CCC report and it seems to be about 4-5k less than expected. I took a look at their report and the "comp" had the exact same mileage, which seemed oddly unlikely, but was also from February and over 1,000 miles away from me. With the changes in the market I sent them comps from the dealer website with similar mileage abs I'm waiting to hear back. Is there anything else I should say or do for this? I'm also looking at doing an owner retention. The buy back is about 25k… is this negotiable at all? Thanks! [link] [comments] |
Posted: 03 Jan 2022 04:45 PM PST My dad wants me to get my own insurance because he doesn't want to be liable for my accidents. My parents own a house among other things which they would not want to lose if I get into a bad accident. Could anyone provide any resources for this kind of situation? I am not seeing much online and need to decide whether to get overpriced 250$/month insurance (current insurance under my dad is less than 50$ a month). Edit: I am 21 [link] [comments] |
My entire neighborhood burned to the ground. What does everyone do from here? Posted: 03 Jan 2022 06:43 PM PST My home was destroyed along with many others in the Colorado wildfires last week. The entire neighborhood (around 300 homes) had been built by a developer about 25 years ago. I'm struggling to wrap my head around where we go from here. Does everyone in the neighborhood agree to rebuild their homes? Do they rebuild the same homes? Do some homeowners rebuild and others sell their land and cash out with insurance? I have also heard (from a person working in land development) that it's a possibility the town offers to buy everyone's land and repurposes/redevelops the neighborhood. For anyone who has knowledge/experience with this scenario, what is most likely to happen? Also, if there's another subreddit where this would be more appropriate, please let me know! Is it a difficult process to cancel a life insurance policy with State Farm? New to life insurance Posted: 03 Jan 2022 12:24 PM PST CA I've never had life insurance and I'm too young for life insurance. No kids, some family. Only reason why I'm getting it is for the discount for my auto insurance policy. If I get it, would it be a difficult process to cancel it? [link] [comments] |
General Liability Insurance for a shared garage? Posted: 03 Jan 2022 07:53 PM PST I am signing on to an existing commercial lease for a small shared garage/workspace for fixing and storing (our own)motorcycles. It's not a business, the only income we might be said to make is rent from an additional person who splits the shop but isn't on the lease. The other lease-holders signed the initial contract less than a year ago and I guess they didn't read it because they never got nor knew about the insurance policy - now that we are resigning the landlord has raised the requirement from 1 to 3M so I feel this isn't something to continue to play dumb with. I got some rates on Next though I'm still confused on if I'm going about this correctly given we aren't a business - do I apply as a sole proprietor or is there some other type of policy more applicable in this situation that might apply? Any pointers are much appreciated [link] [comments] |
Do I need to return the money my insurance paid out if I get my stolen items back? Posted: 03 Jan 2022 01:48 PM PST I had some things stolen and my insurance issued a check. I started to replace my items then I found the culprit selling my stuff online and recovered my items. Do I legally have to return the money the insurance payed out? [link] [comments] |
Insurance for a wedding, concerning covid. Posted: 03 Jan 2022 07:41 PM PST Does anyone know of an insurance company that offers weddings insurnace to cover non refundable aspects especially pretaining to covid? Our wedding is in March and with the rise of cases again we're worried about issues where we'd need to just walk away from what we already paid. We asked both about their covid policy and rescheduling. They can reschedule but they're booked solid for over 2 years and their covid policy, in a short description, is you're SOL and must reschedule. Even if the state it's in cuts indoor capacity, they won't refund anything. My current insurance for everything is through State Farm and they only seem to offer insurance for venue damages according to my agent. I'm curious does any where offer a policy that covers canceling due to covid restrictions and sickness of the bride/groom? [link] [comments] |
Worth it to file a claim for fallen tree? Posted: 03 Jan 2022 07:22 PM PST Just had a large tree from our yard fall into the neighbor's yard due to heavy snow. As far as I know, it just crushed our fence and didn't damage anything on the neighbor's property (fell into open grass in their yard). The quote I got from a tree removal company was $795 to remove the fallen tree. My home insurance coverage document says: "We will pay your reasonable expense, up to $500, for the removal of fallen trees from the residence premises if: (a) Your tree(s) felled by the peril of Windstorm or Hail; (b) Your tree(s) felled by the peril of Weight of Ice, Snow, or Sleet; or (c) A neighbor's tree(s) felled by a Peril Insured Against Under Coverage C; provided the tree(s) damages a covered structure. The $500 limit is the most we will pay in any one loss regardless of the number of fallen trees." I have a general $1000 deductible on my home insurance, but I assume the deductible doesn't apply here since this is under the "additional coverages" section and since the coverage amount is lower than the deductible. Worth it to file with our home insurance? [link] [comments] |
Farmers/MetLife made a mistake causing my license to be revoked. Posted: 03 Jan 2022 11:41 AM PST I have had continuous auto coverage with MetLife from 5/1/2020 and I pay my bills on time automatically. I live in NY state. When I purchased a new house back in November 2021, they added it on to my existing policy and changed the effective date to 11/1/2021. Then they reported a lapse of coverage from 5/1/2021 to 11/1/2021 to the DMV resulting in my license being revoked for 6 months. I have had a policy with them since 5/1/2020 with no interruptions. I did not get the letter from the DMV until 12/19/2021. I need MetLife to fix it in their system before I approach the DMV. I am desperately trying to get this fixed, but every time I call they just say to wait 2 days and call back. What is my recourse here? Is there anyone who can help? I have called MetLife on: 12/19/2021 12/20/2021 12/21/2021 12/22/2021 12/26/2021 12/27/2021 12/28/2021 12/31/2021 01/03/2022 [link] [comments] |
Arsonist in town, how can I know if I am covered in case we are affected Posted: 03 Jan 2022 05:54 PM PST There is an Arsonist in my town and he has burnt 37 cars as of last night, mainly attacking apartment complexes and a few homes with cars on driveways. The neighbors affected have expressed that their car insurance is not covering damages and mentioned all the financial issues they are having trying to replace their valuables. What information should I be looking in my policies to make sure we are covered in case we are affected? I have an umbrella policy, home insurance, and full coverage in the autos. I do not want to call my insurer as I don't want to trigger any price increase due to my inquiry. We really hope he gets caught soon but he is taunting the fire department as he lit a fire right in front on the station last night and as they were busy he lit another one a block away. It's really scary and any help would be appreciated. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 03 Jan 2022 11:17 AM PST When applying for optional life insurance (group insurance through a large employer), I answered "yes" to questions on the "Short Form Health Statement" asking if I currently have or take medication for any disease. I assumed they'll then send some follow-up form with more questions, but instead they quickly (automatically?) approved the application. Is this normal, and is such approval valid, or is this a clear mistake on their part? My actual condition and medication are very mild, but the "yes" answers could have meant much worse things for all they know. Can I rely on this approval being valid? The insurer is Prudential. Thanks for any help! [link] [comments] |
Posted: 03 Jan 2022 04:38 PM PST I recently had an accident in my car which has left me making a claim against my insurance policy. Before the accident, my car had a check engine light due to a catalytic converter issue which I was already aware of and in the process of sorting with the warranty company. Will the insurance company insist on making this part of their repairs to repair the car even though I can fix it without having to go through insurance. I am asking due to catalytic converters not exactly being cheap and may make the car a write off if they take it into account. Similarly with the wheels, they was quite heavily curbed which I am assuming they will try repair at a brand new cost when they could be refurbished at a lower cost than a whole new set of alloys. Can I pick and choose which repairs they make and which ones I can sort? Or do I have to go through the insurance company to sort it as one full package? My worry is that they will just try write off the car as it is easier for them, which isn't going to help me next year with my insurance due to me being 19. [link] [comments] |
Getting new homeowners insurance policy with half finished deck Posted: 03 Jan 2022 03:46 PM PST Long story short I am in the process of inheriting my grandmothers house. The back deck was rotting so I have been replacing it with the help of a carpenter friend. We have the frame of the new deck built but with current wood prices it will take me a month or two to save enough money for the actual decking. The homeowners insurance has lapsed and the bank bought insurance on the estates behalf, which is significantly more expensive than the insurance I can get through geico. From what they have told me I'll be able to get my own policy, however I am wondering if it would be more advantageous to finish the deck first as I'm aware they do a home inspection with new policies. Thanks in advance this is all new to me and I need all the advice I can get. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 03 Jan 2022 03:15 PM PST What is happening at Geico right now? I have both home and auto insurance paid full there and I'm worried Geico might be going out of business or something. Had very minor snow damage to drivetrain and have not been able to speak to anyone since early December. Body shop just told me they don't expect to hear back from Geico until February. Wtf? General usage question. Leaving job Posted: 03 Jan 2022 02:34 PM PST Hi I will hopefully be accepting a new job soon but the insurance through my current place is very good. I was considering scheduling some appointments before I left so that I could utilize it and then quit. Would there be any back charges for this or repercussions? Thanks for the help! Minnesota Insurance increase after deer accident? Posted: 03 Jan 2022 01:56 PM PST I am looking for Minnesota experience with insurance rates increasing (or not) after deer damage to vehicle. First Party Auto vs Personal Medical coverage? Posted: 03 Jan 2022 01:56 PM PST Hi Folks- Was hoping someone could explain to me the advantage of having First Party Medical Benefits (PIP) on an auto policy. Wouldn't personal medical costs be covered by the health policy? I'm just trying to get an understanding of why I might want this coverage. I live in PA, which is considered a no-fault state. So would that mean even if another driver struck me and regardless of their liability coverage (and my Un/Under insured coverage) that no personal medical costs would be paid by either policy, if I were injured? But wouldn't these costs be paid via my own health insurance? Thank you! [link] [comments] |
