Anybody here a BDR or been one at Zendesk?

    Posted: 20 Dec 2021 03:27 AM PST

I checked on repvue already and their profile doesn't offer much in terms of specific insight and Glassdoor is a goddamn mess tbh.

I just wanted to get some insight on how working there is like? I've heard great things about the company but wanted some info that was role-specific.

-What are your metrics like? -Are people meeting their quota? -Hows management/leadership? -Do you see a path to AE? -Work/life balance? -Resources to help you?

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

What’s one thing you wish you knew on day 1?

    Lost 19yr old.

    Posted: 19 Dec 2021 03:13 PM PST

Hi everyone my name is Matthew I'm 19 years old and I live in Los Angeles. Not sure what to do with my life, I just graduated high school and I'm in community college right now but I know where I want to go financially in the future I just don't know where to put my efforts right now. And I have always been entrepreneurial but I'm not sure what industry to start in and be trained in sales or build a skill . I spoke to a mortgage company for an opportunity for me to get my loan officer license and to start doing loans but the owner of the company said everyone you're competing with a seasoned and I'm going to fail. Fuck that guy I'm a hungry 19 yr old. If anyone has any words of wisdom or advice for me on what to do that would be a blessing thank you everyone.

For those of you that sell big ticket items ($50k+), what's the commission rate you earn?

    Posted: 19 Dec 2021 07:53 AM PST

I know the average sales commission is generally 20%-30%, but I'm curious if that's still the average commission rate for big ticket items?

Final presentation interview- ever NOT get the offer?

    Posted: 19 Dec 2021 03:32 PM PST

Wondering how often the sales presentation is just a formality or if there are multiple candidates doing the final presentation interview to make a final decision. In this scenario I'm in there were two rounds of interviewing with direct manager and senior level AE.

Do employers usually treat the presentation interview as a "we need to get the blessing from upper mgmt/VP before following up with job offer?"

Those of you in the insurance industry, what license do you recommend for a newbie?

    Posted: 19 Dec 2021 07:52 PM PST

I'm changing careers and have decided on insurances sales. No previous sales experience. My plan is to get my license on my own and then join a larger company to just gain experience and learn the ropes. I'm in NY, so I need to take a course and pass the exam. What license do you recommend I start out with? Life is the quickest to get as its 20 hours, p&c is 90. Also what's the difference between taking the agent/broker exam for whichever license I decide on?

For what it's worth, I want to work remote and have a base wage + commissions. Money isn't my biggest priority. Even just 40k would be the most I've made in a year.

    Interested in trying sales!

    Posted: 19 Dec 2021 05:55 PM PST

I'm going to be entering my last semester of college this Spring, and I'm curious about the sales world. From looking through this subreddit and a lot of what y'all are talking about, it seems that IT sales and tech sales in a btb format are the way to go (but if there are other's you'd recommend please let me know!).

How would somebody with zero background in sales or these fields go about looking interesting to the companies that specialize there?

    How to keep going?

    Posted: 20 Dec 2021 01:11 AM PST

So as dramatic as this sounds I have to get it out. I have been at a cold calling job for almost six months now. I dread going to work everyday knowing I have to wake up and call the same business who has told me to literally kill myself two days ago. This is my first "real job" (M21) and it has been a struggle. I walked into this not knowing anything about sales besides selling sneakers at footlocker. I finally started to see progress last month. We had a 17 day selling month and I pitched on 13 of those days, since the beginning of December I only have two. I know the phrase "sales is cyclical" But how do you keep going if you feel you aren't learning any new skills or practicing? In fact it feels like I have been going backwards, as my number of pitches has fallen a lot and I haven't been able to keep people on the phone for more than 30 seconds. any tips or maybe words of affirmation?

Have your sales activities ever caused you physical pain?

    Posted: 19 Dec 2021 09:33 AM PST

I know this is a very weird question but sometimes I was so uncomfortable and stressed by sales activities like cold calling etc.. that I experienced muscle discomfort and pain, especially in the shoulders and adductor.

I was wondering if someone ever experienced similar problems.

Moving from 1k ACV to 20k ACV. Any tips?

    Posted: 19 Dec 2021 11:10 PM PST

    Hey guys,

At my current role, my average deal size is about $1k with very short sales cycles and high volume.

I'm moving to a role with larger deal sizes $20k+ with longer cycles and fewer opps to work with.

Any advice on how to handle this change? Should I be approaching these deals differently? Not sure what to expect but would love to be prepared for it.

    Thanks!

Question is What do I say to the inquiry "What are your other customers?" "Success stories?"

Any suggestion, quirky reply or book to look at?

---I could say, hey yeah, after a NDA, but then what?

I could talk about my experience, but not any client, as I just started alone

    solar sales

    Posted: 19 Dec 2021 06:57 PM PST

okay so i wanted to post this in the solar sales chat but it wont let me so here i am lol is moving to another state to try solar sales 1099 (i live in michigan the job is in cleveland and id be staying w my cousin) a bad idea? im currently doing final expense life insurance for various reasons want to leave, i talked to someone working at the company i am working at and he was also doing final expense and now is working in solar saying its worth it and has made 2 or 3 more than he was in final expense. he stopped replying to my messages so i cant get anymore info from him (i dont know him personally met him thru a sales group on fb). about 1 solar sale a week equals about 100k a year and the guy hiring me sad after the first week of training ill get appointments and should be able to close. is this realistic to those of you that have worked in solar? its a closer position so mainly closing appointments with a little bit of door knocking new home owners list. the company is fluent solar. highly considering this if its doable with the amount of money that is possible, but also a little scared moving to another state even though its close by, for commission only 1099 job

Tips for meeting this week between my boss and narcissistic manager?

    Posted: 19 Dec 2021 02:32 PM PST

Was about to quit a few days ago because my manager is a full blown narcissist who was constantly micromanaging me, being overly critical and having unrealistic demands, putting me down, etc. basically every abusive thing you can think of. I stuck it out a few months since Im getting really good pay, sales training and my boss was great. Finally had enough though and tried quitting. Boss was blown away when I told him what was happening and talked me into staying for a bit so we can handle it properly.

Funnily enough, my boss had a meeting with the narcissistic manager and he came out to me crying and claiming he had no idea he was doing that, then immediately stopped all the shitty behavior - so clearly he did know what he was doing. We now have a meeting next Wednesday to settle any conflict and tension.

I am wondering what tips you guys have or what I should and should not say when we meet? Thanks.

    Partner agreements and incentives

    Posted: 19 Dec 2021 04:59 PM PST

Hello hello! Also posted this in r/agency, but I'm the Director of Sales for a B2B marketing agency, and we've recently formed a partnership with a couple private equity firms who are feeding us portfolio companies for marketing support. We're hoping to get an MSA in place to make it more of an official partnership and the firms are inquiring about potential incentives or discounts for their companies. One of the suggestions was a volume based discount where their clients are getting discounts based on how many deals the private equity firms give us per quarter.

I'm wondering if anyone has any experience with partnership agreements and if anyone has any insight or suggestions on things to look out for and maybe some ideas for structuring a system for incentives.

    Appreciate the help, thanks everyone!

What do you do about invested RSUs when considering a new gig?

    Posted: 19 Dec 2021 12:42 PM PST

I was given a bunch of RSUs (we all were) at my company that don't vest til December 2023 and it got me thinking. What do people do when the time comes to consider a new gig? You're leaving that money on the table, so I assume people would try to negotiate that into equity at their new gig (if publicly traded like my current one is), or into a signing bonus right? Would it be useful as a bargaining chip to wherever else you're going? I've only been in SaaS a year and there's still so much I don't know about how things operate.
