Will my car insurance cover in laws hospital bill?

    Posted: 24 Dec 2021 08:14 AM PST

2 weeks ago my in laws were involved in an accident driving my wife's car. They had permission to drive the car and it was just the two of them in the vehicle. My father in law had a syncopal episode which has never happened before and the car hit a curb and rolled over. Car was totaled, geico has already paid us for it and that part was dealt with. My mother in law got the hospital bill today for $30,000 and was wondering who to contact. Neither of them live with us or are dependents. They were just in town and borrowing the car. We have basic PIP and live in Florida if that changes any aspects of the coverage. No other vehicles were involved in the accident thankfully. Both of them were okay. Just shaken up and she spent a night in the hospital as a precaution. Just curious how this may play out as far as who is responsible for the medical bills

    Lost business in tornado

    Posted: 24 Dec 2021 03:53 PM PST

Last week my business was destroyed in a tornado. I'm in the process of working with insurance. Things I'm calculating as a loss so far: inventory that is missing/destroyed, building, lost business income. Am I missing anything else? To put this in perspective I had 1 FT employee. The business was ran out of a building on my home property. Sales are 250k. We manufactured most of what we sold.

Some issues I see so far is business asset coverage looks like it's 11k. I'm out to 55k in losses.

Also is demo of the building including in the rebuild? I think that cost will be $15k

    GEICO claim question

    Posted: 24 Dec 2021 12:03 PM PST

Earlier today I was involved in a solo vehicle accident. During heavy rain I hydroplaned and hit a wall rolling over. The vehicle caught fire and becoming totally engulfed. I am pretty positive they're going to call it a total loss.

My question is; I had some fairly expensive belongings inside the vehicle. I can prove I purchased these things with receipts. I have comprehensive/ full coverage on the vehicle. Is it likely that GEICO will re embuste me for the cost of the items I lost when the vehicle went up in flames?

I am incredibly happy to have made it through okay, I'm just trying to prep for the claim process and getting life back to normal.

Thank you so much for any help!

Will insurance cover custom vehicle parts

    Posted: 24 Dec 2021 03:40 PM PST

Recently go into an accident in my dodge 2500. Got forced off a snowy road and rolled it onto its side. The truck had a custom two tone paint job as well as rock guard paint protection applied to the bottom half. Also custom mirrors that are not original. Will insurance go out and find a perfect match for the mirror and will they spray on the paint protection or will they just do paint matching and replace with OEM parts.

Losing House Insurance Over A Speeding Ticket

    Posted: 24 Dec 2021 02:54 PM PST

Preface: First ever speeding ticket, I and my younger sister are included in a family insurance plan. (Wisconsin)

Long story short, my friend had no way to get home from college for Christmas so I made an 8 hour round trip drive to bring him home. I was ticketed for speeding on the way there. I haven't told my parents yet.

Today my sister mentioned to me while driving to be extra careful of speeding as, apparently, due to her horrendous driving record, if anyone in our family even gets so much as one speeding ticket, we will lose both our car insurance and house insurance.

So, suddenly I am facing losing my entire family's insurance over my first speeding ticket. I don't understand why or how this is the case, but I'm terrified. What do I even do?

    Insurance for Forum Website

    Posted: 24 Dec 2021 02:45 PM PST

    Hey all,

Thanks in advance for any replies to this post. Let me preface this by saying I'm a psychiatric nurse practitioner. I get the unique opportunity of having a front row seat in the world of mental health, and I treat mental health conditions every day in a hospital and outpatient setting. One of the biggest voids in our community relates to mens mental health, and I plan to do something to take a step in the right direction.

    My idea:

To develop a website, not all that different from Reddit. However, primarily focusing in on being a space for men to share mental health related experiences: divorce, depression, inadequacy and emasculation, etc. Certainly, the end goal would be to become popular and maybe make a few dollars from advertising.

    My fear:

Of course, being sued. Maybe someone comments and says they are suicidal, then actually commits suicide days later. Maybe someone takes some advice given to them by another member, and it turns out to be harmful. As only one man, I feel like it would be very hard to mitigate all of the possible risks, therefore I will need a terms of service and insurance.

    What I've found:

Nobody seems to be able to give me a straight answer on what kind of insurance I will need. Will I need to file for LLC and insure that? Or can I just insure the website? Of course, I plan on creating an LLC when cash flow opportunities like advertising come up, but at this point I would rather just see how things turn out before going through all of the trouble. Can anyone give me some advice here?

wrong data in mitchell report ( car total loss cash value )

    Posted: 24 Dec 2021 09:59 AM PST

    Happy Holidays to Everyone!

My car was totalled and the at fault insurance company gave me a figure

based on Mitchell report of several comparables with 75 miles of my zip.

One of the comparables is listed with local dealership address, but per VIN

checking it's sold in another state 2000 miles away. ( In the report, it's desc

is sold locally, which is wrong ). In another comparables, the listing price

was a listing price last year in 2000, couple of grands lower than the recent listing price.

Could this be a computer program glitch, like maybe it's system generated?

Or the adjuster could have modified the input data?

    Car wreck advice!

    Posted: 24 Dec 2021 09:12 AM PST

I don't know if this is the right place for this, if it is not I'll delete and move to the right subreddit just let me know!

Disclaimer: I've never been in an accident before so I'm pretty clueless on what to do.

So I got hit by some lady the other day. I was just sitting at a red light and she ran right into me, clear as day who is at fault. I had 3 witnesses and the lady even admitted it was her fault as well to the officer. She was a very nice lady and I was very nice to her. My car had to be towed off to the wrecker site because the whole driver corner was damaged and hanging off and stuff (officer deemed unsafe). Her SUV was barely scraped on the side and she had a back flat that the officer changed on scene. My leg was injured a bit but it's been okay and I didn't need any hospitalization.

We both have statefarm insurance as well. Yesterday morning I called statefarm and filed a claim under her policy (because she was at fault/etc). I've never been in an accident before and don't really know what I'm doing. Called again throughout the day to try to figure out what's going on and now basically I wont hear ANYTHING until Monday (because of the holidays) because they need to verify with her policy or something like that.

I've missed 2 days of work so far because I cant get a rental until they verify that on Monday, so itll basically be an entire week without driving. This especially around the holidays is stressful, but also not knowing what is going on until then is going to drive me crazy.

Another thing that was weird is I called statefarm again and they mentioned needing to move my car off the wrecker site asap because it costs per day which is understandable. Then they mentioned "we will have to talk to you monday about possibly getting it on your policy if we cant verify by then so we can move the car sooner".. why would I put it on my policy if she admitted it was her fault and I literally did nothing? How is that fair? Is this just the claim person trying to change the at fault even though were both statefarm insurers? What's going on?

Also, my car was brand new. I paid 33.5k for it in May 2021 and have paid down 20k on it already. Ive consistently looked it up on KBB and its basically appreciated due to covid and the microchip stuff. I've been working so hard for this vehicle trying to keep it spotless and honestly its heartbreaking knowing this happened. I'm worried about it decreasing in value since this wreck will be on its history.

I guess the main advice I'm looking for is how can I make sure I get a fair check for my cars value when I dont know how much the repair will cost plus the other things including days I missed at work for no rental, depreciation, overall stress from not having a rental for a week possibly more? Also advice on them suggesting I put it on my policy? Again, I have never had any accidents before so I'm pretty clueless to what's going on, I just need help! Thanks!

Also posting this on advice reddit for more perspectives.

    Pregnancy covered?

    Posted: 24 Dec 2021 09:26 AM PST

I am 25 yo on my dad's insurance as a dependent. My husband and I are considering having a baby but are worried about the insurance aspect. I turn 26 in about 8 months and will be enrolling for in employers health care plan (large global company). Will my pregnancy (prenatal & delivery) be covered if I'm already pregnant when I enroll in my employers healthcare plan?

I have already confirmed with my dads insurance that prenatal appointments and delivery are covered as a dependent on his insurance.

Any advice would be great! Thanks!

    Grease fire vs. non-grease fire

    Posted: 24 Dec 2021 09:23 AM PST

I thought I'd turned off the stove but had not, and a pan of oil caught fire. There was significant damage to the kitchen and the firemen axed a big hole in the wall behind the stove. People and pets are all okay. This happened a few days ago in Maryland.

The general adjuster I spoke with on the day of the fire specifically asked if it was a grease fire. At that moment, I didn't really understand what he was asking, so I told him exactly what had happened and left it up to him to categorize. The complex adjuster who I've been assigned also asked what happened and I again described exactly what had happened. I've also sent plenty of photos.

Yesterday, I noticed on my insurance company's app that the incident is described as a "non-grease fire."

Does this need to be corrected or clarified? Or did the adjuster (who was charming) do me a solid by calling it a non-grease fire and I should just leave it alone? Or does a grease fire vs non-grease fire designation impact the amount the insurance company is willing to pay for restoration? Or does it not matter either way?

Thank you, r/insurance. This place is a rabbit hole. I've learned more about insurance in the past few days then I knew there was to know.

    Vision insurance calendar year question

    Posted: 24 Dec 2021 05:54 AM PST

This year is my first year having vision insurance through VSP. It is a calendar year basis insurance so the 2021 benefits will reset on December 31 which then the 2022 benefits will start.

If I schedule my annual exam and order my contact lenses on December 29 but I don't get billed until after December 31, will the cost for the exam and contacts count towards the 2021 calendar year cycle or the 2022?

    Possible suing scenario

    Posted: 24 Dec 2021 05:25 AM PST

I'm in a situation where my coverage likely won't cover all damages done to the other car I caused in a crash.

If I were to be sued, would they see a financed car, or a rent to own home as an "asset"? Could the insurance or the other party come after these kinds of things even though I don't technically own them yet?

This might be a reach, but I just want to prepare myself for worst case scenario.

If I go to an appointment, can they run insurance to see if I'm covered or how long I'll be covered?

    Posted: 23 Dec 2021 08:21 PM PST

Okay, so I will keep it as short as possible without being confusing (hopefully).

I'm 25 and I'm on my parents' insurance until I'm 26 in 2022. I wanna get counseling/therapy through my doctor's office. They have a therapist in the same company. Company isn't the right word.

Well, my parents only like one counselor ever. She's a Christian counselor which is probably the only reason my mom and dad approve of her.

This counselor has been playing doctor. She made me feel awful about myself. I have an eating disorder, depression, anxiety, social anxiety, borderline, history of self-destructive behavior. She's known me since I was 14, but at the end of being there, I would actually feel worse. We'd talk about my diet and she'd tell me how awful it is even though I'm trying harder than I've ever tried. Like I was cutting down on carbs and chips and all of that. I mentioned I had 5 potato chips and she went off on a rant about how unhealthy that is. Or if I had a piece of ham steak how awful that is. She also said stuff like I need to exercise at least 6x a week, in weather unless it's colder than 15-20. So I haven't been there in over a year, but I do need to talk to somebody.

I went back on my parents' insurance until I'm 26. I have an appointment on Monday for a new counselor, and until the 1st, I'm insured there Meridian Health Medicaid. So it's fine until then. If on the 1st I want to continue counseling if I give them the new insurance card, can they run the insurance to tell me how much they'll charge out of pocket and how many sessions?

I wanna just ask my dad and mom. But they're extremely stubborn, religious, judgmental, etc. If you knew them you'd understand. You can't argue with him about anything. You'd have been luck talking to a brick wall. You can't convince of anything. If he thinks something, he won't change his view or opinion, even if being proven wrong, he pretends he didn't see it. So please don't tell me to stand up to him or whatever.

I can't be myself around them but I can't afford to move out because most jobs have cut hours and even if I had a roommate or 2, I'd still be pretty short on money. So I think maybe if I can get insurance to work out, I'll be happier. I hold my emotions in and need this!

[MD] I hit triaged and blood drawn, Covid test, and urin sample because I cant walk 10 ft without shittting myself. Saff refuse to give any window about wait time, besides “up to 20 hours”. Today is extremely important to me and I can’t be stuck. My insurance BCBS won’t answer. Guesses on my bill?

    Posted: 24 Dec 2021 07:57 AM PST

I don't think conditions are life threatening. They just make daily life difficult. I shit the bed twice (had towels down). I am keeping hydrated but most of it comes out my ass.

Today is extremely important to me. I am not sure if I can see friends or family today, but I definitely won't if I stay.

What do you think their costs will be for: 1 each of zofran and Tylenol (I already have a ton, thanks), triage, urine sample! And blood draw?

Will insurance really hang you out to dry if you are leaving early (no one used the world medical advice with me)

Experience with Liberty Mutual Claims Reps?

    Posted: 24 Dec 2021 12:26 AM PST

    Hey y'all,

I'm having an AWFUL experience with LM's claims dept and am curious if anyone else has had a similar experience. Accident was in a no-fault state, some idiot ran a red light and completely T-boned me. The car is inoperable and was towed to a LM storage facility/vendor. I had to file a claim with LM under my phys dam covg before going after the other party (USAA).

It took LM 2 WEEKS to initiate contact with me. The day after the accident, I sent an email to the adjuster (already assigned) with the police report number and basic info about where the damages are. No answer. A week and a half later I followed up asking about the status and included the copy of the police report (after making appt with the police department for a copy). No answer. After 2 weeks I complained to the appraiser who provided the damage estimate about where tf my rep has been. He gave me the managers contact info and only then did I finally got a half assed response from the rep. My written statement was taken 2 weeks after the accident. Unacceptable.

I told the appraiser (and cc'd rep) to take the car to my car shop of choice 1 week after the accident and when the estimate was complete. By the time the rep answered me, the shop was at capacity and couldn't take a vehicle. Rep supposedly called all their contacted facilities and they were all 'full'. I called around and found one shop with capacity and told my rep to have it towed there ASAP. The shop kept telling tow company to delay the delivery (i get it, not LM's fault) only to have the vehicle towed there AND THEY TURN IT AWAY. Supposedly they don't take inoperable vehicles (again, TF?!?!) LM notifies me the vehicle was turned away and has provided me NO alternatives.

At this point, it's been 3.5 weeks, almost 4 and the car has not made any progress towards repairs. I am getting ONE RESPONSE per day from this rep who has done absolutely NOTHING to help. I have done all the leg work. He ignores my calls, emails, and only communicates via text. I am paying out of pocket for a rental and the only silver lining is that USAA accepted liability so I will be reimbursed (whenever that may be). His working hours are also 3 hours ahead of my time zone, so he's calling shops before they even open and then quitting work mid-day (my time) further slowing down the process to repair anything.

Y'all have similar experiences? Tips to get this shit done? Are vehicles being towed into shops seriously scoffed at?

    Claim for Lost Jewelry

    Posted: 24 Dec 2021 12:14 AM PST

I was working in the kitchen early Thursday afternoon and put my ring down by the sink. When I went back several hours later it was gone. My 9yo admitted to accidentally knocking it into the sink and it going down the drain. My ex gave me the ring and I am listed as an insured. I really love the ring and would love to have it replaced. Can I file the claim or do I need to involve my ex? Do I have any responsibility to get a plumber out to my home to pull apart the plumbing under the sink or do anything else as part of filing a claim? This is the nicest piece of jewelry I've ever had so not sure how to handle this situation at all.

Medical code billing differences between Medicare vs private insurance

    Posted: 23 Dec 2021 08:13 AM PST

I went to a new doctor last month to finally get medicated for ADHD. Just got the bill yesterday and it's $551 which is crazy for a visit that took about 15 minutes from check in to leaving the building (maybe 20 minutes max).

I called and asked for a billing audit and was told that since it was a "chronic condition" with a medication request, it was billed as a level 4 code and that's that. I haven't seen the code number but I'm assuming that they coded it 99204. When I look online for the cost for that code, I see that Medicare reimbursement is approximately $180.

I have private insurance through my employer and a large deductible to meet. I am able to pay this bill but I'm a bit salty about it. Can someone explain to me why there's this large price discrepancy for the same code between Medicare and private insurance? I understand that Medicare is subsidized by the government to reduce costs but that is a huge gap.

Attempting self-repair before filing a claim; bad idea?

    Posted: 23 Dec 2021 08:49 PM PST

My fiancé' backed into some sort of "wood bollard" (as she described it) on our brand new (6,000 miles, 5 months old) CX-5, scratching the paint on the rear bumper taking it down to the primer and/or plastic in one spot. I'm on the fence about what to do, either A) bring it to a body shop and have it repaired properly and just eat the $500 deductible and accept the higher premiums in the future B) apply some touch up paint where the paint was chipped and buff out the rest, or C) do nothing.

I'm wondering: if I attempt to repair the area myself and am not satisfied with the results, will I have forfeited my right to file a claim later by altering the condition of the vehicle post-loss?

Insurer is Geico in Virginia, if that matters. Claim-free for 9+ years. Received one speeding ticket ("driving at a speed not reasonable and prudent") more than 5 years ago. Deductible is $500, which I assume is less than the cost of repainting a bumper cover + blending adjacent panels. We currently enjoy a $56/6 month "Good Driver" discount as well, which I'm assuming will go away for the next 5+ years if we file a claim. Our declaration page also states our policy includes the "free Accident forgiveness benefit", which I guess means they won't adjust our base rate just because of this claim.

Also wondering: If I file a claim now how likely is that going to impact my options if I go rate shopping in January? Will I be stuck with Geico with the free accident forgiveness because every other insurer will be pricing the claim into their rates?

Fender Bender, Car is Insured but Title Not Transferred Over (OR)

    Posted: 23 Dec 2021 07:33 PM PST

My partner got into a car accident last week. He was driving what used to be his mom's second car, we received it in November and added it to our insurance but he never ended up turning in the necessary documents (registration card, bill of sale and title application). Registration card has a dated signature where it says "If you sell your vehicle, complete this card and return to DMV at the address below" but that's it. Never turned it in.

If he is deemed at fault will our insurance cover the claim or refuse/go after his mom because she owns the vehicle? Freaking out a little bit here.

We're in Oregon if that helps - I know things vary a little bit from state to state.

No primary car insurance but have GAP insurance…

    Posted: 23 Dec 2021 07:23 PM PST

Last month my car was stolen from my apartment complex. A police report was made and the vehicle was marked stolen. Auto theft was able to locate it and I have recovered it from impound. The car is severely damaged/ wrecked (windshield broken, entire front end missing etc). At the time of the theft, I did not have primary car insurance because the vehicle was not in use. Unfortunately, I have learned my lesson to never let your insurance lapse.

I do have GAP insurance that was provided with the auto loan. After contacting them, I was told I can file a claim despite having no primary coverage. I am now waiting on a repair estimate report from mechanic and a total loss valuation from gap.

The vehicle is a Kia Forte 2017. It's financed and I'm currently making payments. However, my loan is upside down. The original amount was $11,500 with 22.7% interest. My current payoff quote is $12,000.

I'm still confused how gap insurance works. If my claim is accepted I'm unsure what they would cover. Is it enough to payoff the current loan?

Also, how likely is it that gap will accept my claim without primary insurance? Looking for some knowledge on all this. Any helpful information would be greatly appreciated.

car accident. other driver has no insurance

    Posted: 23 Dec 2021 07:21 PM PST

Hi there. I recently got into an accident. It was my fault, I was trying to make a left turn trying to pass the yellow lines in order to go the opposite direction, however I was trying to yield from oncoming traffic from my left side but 4 cars on the outer most lane was blocking my view so I couldn't see the other lane. So I stupidly went for it and I barely got hit. The other driver didn't see me as well and couldn't brake in time. After we exchange information, I brought it up to my insurance company and they said that the other driver does not have insurance, even when I uploaded his registration, insurance card and drivers license. BTW this was not at an intersection so no lights. what is the best course of action to do? any advice would be great thank you

I uploaded the damage of my car
