Please attempt to name one thing you enjoy about audit

Went to Office Depot to buy 5 boxes of paper for the season. The cashier responded with: “what for a bonfire?” Needed a good accounting laugh during a tough two weeks.

How to be a good coach to an intern?

    Posted: 29 Dec 2021 06:58 PM PST

I have seen lots of posts on this sub from interns asking how to make the most of their internship. However, I can't recall seeing many posts about what the full time employees can do to help the intern's experience.

So, as a first year associate, how can I help the intern have a good experience?

What do you do when your boss (senior, manager, partner, etc) yells at you?

    Posted: 29 Dec 2021 09:44 PM PST

How do you even respond to this professionally. Personally, I feel like I'm also a little hotheaded so if anyone yells at me, my initial reaction is defensive or also as rude. I know I can't yell back, so I literally want to know how you guys react or have reacted when your boss yells at you (especially in front of other people!)

Something that would probably end your career or prevent you from future advancement.

Starting public accounting compensation through the years?

    Posted: 29 Dec 2021 01:48 PM PST

Hoping to get some insight from the vets on this sub. With prices of homes and inflation being such a hot topic lately, I'm curious to see how starting public accounting salaries through the years compare to now when adjusted for inflation. If anyone's interested, we can use a similar format as most other threads:

    • Year you started
    • Firm size and service line
    • Region/COL
    • Salary

Making mistakes because too much is on my plate

    Posted: 29 Dec 2021 02:28 PM PST

Senior Accountant, 6 years experience in industry

Towards the end of last year, we opened more locations and we have a total of 23 now. I was the only accountant up until June when we hired a controller and another accountant. We've also had a ton of turnover in leadership and other departments and I am now the most senior person working on our cross departmental tasks, so that means, when someone in HR doesn't know how part of our payroll process works, or wasn't trained properly, I have to step in and help or spend time fixing an issue that wouldn't have happened if all of the processes were followed properly to begin with. Additionally, because of the large turnover across all departments, the majority of processes were lost and since they end with me, I'm the one having to spend time to fix whatever wasn't done properly.

On top of that, I have my actual job to do, and I am falling so far behind, especially with it being year end.

I've got way too much on my plate which is leading me to make so many mistakes because I have so much to do and deadlines to meet or else people don't get paid. If I want to keep my sanity, I don't have time to triple check everything. I'm losing my confidence in the work place and making these mistakes is really killing my self esteem at work.

Does anyone have any advice? I know am responsible for my mistakes, but I am rushing through everything that I'm not sure how to stop making them.

Best way to skip audit days.

While having a lunch, just tell them you can't taste anything. That will send you home quickly and decisively. My company requires you to stay home for at least two days and proof of negative covid test before returning to work. Enjoy time off and party for new years eve!

Which line of best fit for predicting income over the next year?

    Posted: 29 Dec 2021 08:24 PM PST

Since you guys always answer my dumb questions ( just a small business owner who wants to control their money) I am looking at my income over time (For the business) and am doing some line of best fitting to attempt to predict next year. At the moment, a generic linear projection looks like I am going to be Elon Musk so I am wondering if there is something else more.... realistic? (Sales HAVE been increasing m/m for a while now); Just figured somebody might have some opinions on some of the other fits like Gaussian or others (this is intended to be fun) thanks people

That Time of the Year for CPE...?

    Posted: 29 Dec 2021 07:50 PM PST

Wrapping up my CPE for my CPA renewal. Anyone have links to free on-demand webcasts I can watch? I've seen some public accounting firms that have them, but it looks like for the Big 4, they only offer credit for live participation.

Has anyone moved to Canada and found a new accountant role? What were your transitional challenges, besides the accounting principle differences?
