Took my child to the ER to get stitches. Insurance is not paying the bill because the Dr. who stitched him up was out of network and now we must pay $1,750. What are our options?

    Posted: 02 Nov 2021 06:22 PM PDT

Our child needed stitches for a large gash on his forehead. Since it was stitches on his face, the on call plastic surgeon performed the work. Now the insurance company is saying we are responsible for the full amount because the plastic surgeon was out of network. The ER wasn't out of network, but apparently the on call doctor can me. Good figure.

We haven't met our out of pocket deductible which they used as their argument.

What are our options? How do we argue with the insurance company? Any suggestions with the plastic surgeon? Why can't they at least cover the cost of the ER doc during the work? Is that even a thing?

Man I'm tired of getting screwed over by insurance companies…

    Edit: We are in Florida.

Car is totaled insurance low-balling me, how do I get a fair $ettlement (GEICO)?

    Posted: 03 Nov 2021 05:50 AM PDT

My car was totaled (while parked unattended a moron slammed I to the side of it) Initial payout offer from GEICO to replace is $7k. Quick perusal if like kind inventory shows I would need closer to $13 to get into a comparable vehicle.

What is the most effective approach to take with the company in order to get myself whole?

Notes: I hold title to my vehicle (no car payment and don't want one)

At fault party has GEICO insurance out of FL which I understand may have a max payout of $10k

I am also geico insured out of CO with a $15k max payout.

Adjuster hinted at possibly using my policy, but then mentioned $7k total loss based on comps they found (I disagree)

Trying to help my 70+ parents navigate Medicaid and help them find supplemental insurance

    Posted: 03 Nov 2021 05:25 AM PDT

My parents, though quite on the older side, still run their own small mom and pop shop. They currently have Medicaid and use a broker to find the best supplemental insurance but he charges hundreds of dollars . Is that considered normal ? Is there an app, number or online resource I can help them use to find supplemental insurance so they dont need to use the broker or is this broker charge and use of one standard? Thanks for any help!

Accident, other parties insurance called me?

    Posted: 03 Nov 2021 05:13 AM PDT

My son had a minor accident back in July. We filed a claim with our insurance and had repairs done etc.

My insurance informed me they would be trying to subrogate.

I got a call from the others parties insurance stating they had a few questions for me.

Do I need to talk to them? What is the risk if I do or don't?

Bicycle/car accident - damage to car & insurance

    Posted: 03 Nov 2021 04:16 AM PDT

My wife had a bicycle accident with a vehicle in September. It was a blind intersection (trees blocking looking right), and she had a stop sign and the other road did not. She swerved to miss the car and scratched up the side, and possibly dented the bumper (I do not know how she could have hit it where she did and dent it that badly). Police & eyewitness stated she was at fault for not obeying the stop sign.

The bike seems ok, but she went to Urgent Care afterwards, and saw her primary after. She had a concussion and was out of it for weeks. She will probably go see an ortho since her hip/back still hurts.

The other party's insurance wants to collect $3000 for the damage. My car insurance (LM) filed a no-fault medical claim (I was told no deductible and no premium change), but I don't think that would cover any of the property damage, only our OOP medical (~$150 as of now). The person from our auto insurance said that a bike is considered a person in the case, and hitting a pedestrian is immediately the vehicle's fault.

I have a $1000 home insurance deductible (LM as well). Is it worth it to file a home insurance claim to cover the damage to the car (~$3000)?

It will "save" me $2000, but my insurance would not tell me how this would affect my rates.

I'm scared that for a small amount, the insurance premiums would go up a lot, since that shows that you would be more likely to file in the future if just above the deductible, plus the administrative work that goes into filing a claim.

After X amount of time you are with with your insurer, do insurer still put out significant effort to keep with with the company?

    Posted: 03 Nov 2021 03:48 AM PDT

I have minimal exposer to the insurance world (young, and not working in the field).

As I understand, when your accumulated premium is higher than the pay out of your policy, the company can start write off any future premium as profit.

Therefore, if someone has been with the insurer a significant amount of time, and has paid a significant of premium money, does it make sense for the company to not put as much effort to keep that person with the company longer, compare to someone who's newly joined? As I understand, if someone cancel their policy before the pay out event, all past premium can be written as profit for the insurer without deducting the pay out money.

But one can argue that the insurer values loyalty of their customers more and would like them to continue using the service?

Let me know what you think!

Hit a deer two days after getting brand new car.

    Posted: 02 Nov 2021 07:25 AM PDT

I'm probably cursed. Had a total loss on a new car a few months ago and last night hit a deer on a new car I just picked up. The damage is pretty severe on the front but no air bags deployed. My new car is a 2022 Silverado. Here are the damages below. I had the trade equity I used as down payment from a different vehicle and also had some pretty hefty discounts. Is there any chance I'll get money back if it's totaled? Does it look totaled? Thanks photos of accident

What would be the cost of an insurance appraiser & umpire? (Ontario, Canada)

    Posted: 02 Nov 2021 09:51 PM PDT

My auto insurance company's appraiser is refusing to consider the used car available in market with same trim as my car. This causes the value to be lower by about $1500-$2000 + taxes.

They keep saying that the vehicles without the trim are adjusted (by adding $300-500) to make up the difference. But when I look at the used cars market, the ones with the trim are consistently $1500-$2000 more expensive by listing price.

    --

I think this process will reach the point where an umpire would be needed. How much do they cost? I have to split the cost of this person with the insurance company so

I am wondering if the $1500 will get eaten up by me hiring 1) an appraiser of my own, and 2) an umpire who will break the tie.

Should I get supplemental dental insurance to prepare for extensive reconstructive work?

    Posted: 02 Nov 2021 06:29 PM PDT

My teeth are very very bad. I recently went to the dentist and got a quote for everything that needs to be done to get them fixed and have healthier teeth/gums going forward. The quote is sitting at about 18k. I have delta dental through my employer but they only cover up to $2000 per year. I have care credit that I can use but I don't want to be paying for this for the rest of my life (care credit's interest rates are insane) if I can help it. I couldn't find a lot of detailed info for their other payouts, but I saw that Aflac pays about $375 for crowns, which would cover almost half the cost for them at my dentist. I plan on calling them for a quote, but insurance stuff isn't easy for me to understand, and I always feel like the people who sell us our insurance at work are trying to convince me of something (like they get commission?) so I just want to make sure I'm getting some unbiased opinions. Thanks y'all, hope everyone is having a good week so far!

Temporary third party liability card expired - no physical pink slip in mail yet. Advice?

    Posted: 02 Nov 2021 08:37 PM PDT

So I just bought auto insurance last month on the 12th for a car which was activated on the 15th of October. Insurance company (TD) sent me a temporary liability card which expires on the 30th of October while they work on sending me the pink slip(proof of insurance). I've been following up with them on this for the past 2 weeks thinking I'd receive it in the mail soon, but I haven't received anything in my buildings mailbox. Does this mean I can't drive until I call them up and have them send out another temporary pink slip until I get the physical one? I live in Ontario and an auto insurance policy is required for registration.

Car was hit on the side in apt. Parking lot

    Posted: 02 Nov 2021 09:05 PM PDT

    Location CT

So I was heading to work early in the morning and the rain, as I was on my way the lady came out of an adjacent complex and ran into my side, her car had barely any damage mine is totaled.

A cop came and ultimately he turns out he didn't file a police report because it happened on private property. Anyway at the scene she admitted full fault, however later she told a different story to her insurance company. I don't have collision, so my insurance company is not much help.

Her insurance is now basically offering me 50%, saying that it was both our faults also they will charge me fees if I don't move my car within a few days, the car is not worth much but I'm not in a position to turn down any money right now .

Is this worth getting a lawyer to fight? Definitely learned my lesson though, collision is a must have, no matter value of the car

    Insurance trying to recoup payout

    Posted: 02 Nov 2021 09:02 PM PDT

I got into an accident last December.

I ended up hitting a pickup which ended up flipped and backwards when we both managed to stop.

The police didn't charge me with anything or write a ticket.

The bad part is I hadn't upped the coverage on my insurance in a decade. My insurance paid out the limit to the guy I hit but there was $7K that wasn't covered that his insurance paid out.

I just got a letter from the insurance company of the guy I hit asking me to pay them back the money they paid out since they found me at fault.

Do I need to pay this or us there something else I need to do?

Thanks for any help! I've never had to deal with this before.

    Car insurance drastic price drop

    Posted: 02 Nov 2021 08:50 PM PDT

Just wanted to state the drastic change in my car insurance quotes. At the beginning of the year I only had my license for 4 months and insurers like geico and State Farm were charging me $300-500 for liability insurance at 20. Now that I've had my license for 1 year and almost 21, I'm looking to buy a used car and finance it. Did some rough estimates online and now they charging me $190-260 for full coverage. Like damn y'all really hate new drivers huh 🤔

    At fault car accident

    Posted: 02 Nov 2021 08:17 PM PDT

I rear ended another vehicle recently, low impact in traffic. There was clear damage to their bumper, some scratches and dents. We pulled over and after they said they were not injured, we both exchanged insurance information but neglected to take any pictures.

I talked to my insurance the following day, and since nobody called yet, they started the claim.

The claims adjuster is asking me for photos of my car, but since I do not have any collision on my policy, I don't see why he needs them. It's a pretty clear cut case for determining fault, and they other driver I'm sure has already submitted pictures of his vehicle.

Why is he asking for these? Is it crucial to the claim? TIA

Advice for talking to medical insurance re eating disorder

    Posted: 02 Nov 2021 03:00 PM PDT

My adult daughter is in residential care for an eating disorder (anorexia and bulimia) and the insurance company wants her to move to outpatient because she is being "meal compliant" despite three incidents of purging and both her and the staff agreeing the she isn't ready, esp. as nighttime is her documented worst time.

Looking for suggestions of language to use with insurance to buy her more time. Thanks!

Should I use my coverage if I'm not at fault?

    Posted: 02 Nov 2021 06:16 PM PDT

I was in an accident two nights ago. Got t-boned by a guy. Anyways, the police officer said I wasn't at fault, guy told me he was sorry, and my insurance agent said I wouldn't be at fault either.

All that said, my insurance agent suggested I try a third party claim through the other drivers insurance, or I could use my coverage and the deductible would be waved.

I've read that third party claims can be tricky. That you have to watch what you say and such because they'll look for any reason not to pay.

Is it worth trying to call and make a third party claim? Or should I just use my coverage even though I'm not at fault.

Sorry if this is a silly question, first real accident I've been where I'm the driver.

    Edit: I'm in Vermont.

Paying out of pocket through insurance?

    Posted: 02 Nov 2021 05:52 PM PDT

I was just in a minor rear end car accident that was at fault. Driver said he is willing to let me pay out of pocket but prefers to have a paper trail of some kind. He said he will contact his insurance to see if I am able to reimburse them out of pocket. Is this possible at all? Me paying out of pocket but the driver is still contacting his insurance? Thank you for your time.

    Shocked by the Dental Insurance

    Posted: 02 Nov 2021 11:33 AM PDT

I didn't aware of this until today.

I went to a dental specialist for a root canal. The dentist told me that during the procedure if there was a crack found in my tooth: thus, the root canal could not be performed, I will be responsible for the $700 bill because dental insurance would not cover the failed procedure. (This was the consent that I signed before I had the procedure. Luckily, my procedure went well, so dental will pay for 80% of the cost)

This is so shocking... Dental insurance only pays for successful procedures?

Why are dental insurance still surviving...This doesn't make any sense. I know that 1k or 2k benefit maximum is already ridiculous, but only paying for successful procedures is something I couldn't imagine...

    Thinking about changing health plans

    Posted: 02 Nov 2021 01:30 PM PDT

I am looking for advice about my current insurance. I have employer paid insurance with BCBS PPO HDHP. I pay for my spouse and kids. My monthly premium is $1458 or $17498 annually. I am looking at keeping my coverage since it's paid and moving my family to a new plan offered here in TX on the marketplace. It's Friday Bronze Basic for $656/mo or Bronze HSA for $691. I don't know anything about Friday Health but assume this would not be as good as my PPO but maybe bearable (it's an EPO). We have no ongoing health issues. Saving $9000 a year would be very helpful.

    Thanks for your input.

Is being an agent really this depressing?

    Posted: 02 Nov 2021 03:06 PM PDT

I started at a small captive agent office recently and there's so many.. depressing things that I hear about with insureds. My boss had a woman break down in her office because their child committed suicide, I hear about spouses that died and people being extremely emotional over it, losing animals or having ones and going into how they used to be abused and stuff. A coworker told me they had multiple people break down in their office in a week before and someone mentioned "You're an agent and a therapist now!" God, do I really have to handle all this depressing stuff on daily basis with people?

Car insurance has gone up massively! and what is last year's premium?

    Posted: 02 Nov 2021 03:03 PM PDT

Hi all, just had a question regarding a renewal quote for my car insurance. I'm based in the UK in case that's relevant. My renewal quote has increased by 94% and I'm in need of calling the company bright and early tomorrow to try work out a lower quote. It's odd as I recently changed vehicles and was charged an additional £30 for the change (larger car plus admin fee). Nothing else details wise has changed and I have 3 years NCD. In the renewal email, it mentions a 'Last Year's Premium' figure that is about £100 more than the price I actually paid last year. The wording below describing it is "...a representation of your premium for the past year using the current details of your renewal offer. As a result, your Last Year's Premium figure may differ from what you paid last year if changes have been made". Does anyone know what this actually means or what the purpose of this figure is?

    Question regarding claim

    Posted: 02 Nov 2021 02:59 PM PDT

I have an old, beat up, 2005 Honda Accord. I had my Catalytic converter stolen and have filed a claim. My question is, will the condition of my vehicle impact the repair of the only thing I am claiming? This is things like bad paint, cracked bumper, and non working windows. I am only filing to repair the converter.
