The Most Nerve Racking Text I've Ever Gotten

    Posted: 05 Nov 2021 09:04 PM PDT

About a week ago I got a text from one of my SEO clients saying "Hey do you have time for a phone call" now normally this client is a very hands-off client so I was pretty worried that he might cut off my services despite us making some great progress with his ranking over the past months. I called him back right after the text and was met with a "Hey I'm a little busy right now I'll call you back later"

Now if you knew me in person you would know that I tend to get bad anxiety so this wait made things a little harder for me and my mind began to wonder. Eventually, hours passed, then a day, then multiple days until my client finally shot me another text saying "Hey I'll call you in an hour" finally the moment I had been waiting for and at this point, I just wanted an answer whether it was positive or negative as the suspense was killing me. I finally heard my phone ring and it was him, I answered and by his mood, I can tell nothing seemed to be wrong but maybe he wasn't trying to tip me off to the bad news. After some short small talk he finally said "Hey Justin, I'm actually looking to get some extra marketing done for my sister's businesses think you could help out?" At this point not only was I relieved but I was ecstatic. Not only was my client staying but he was also bringing in two new referrals. This was some of the greatest news I had gotten all month and honestly, I'm so happy the situation finished with a happy story as this week has been a tough one for me. Hopefully, some of you can either relate or get some inspiration from this story as this near heart attack experience finally concluded for me in a positive way.

$3M in sales, where to go from here?

    Posted: 05 Nov 2021 07:45 PM PDT

I'm at the point where I probably need to raise capital or something. My brand has done $3M for 2 years in a row, but I'll need funding if I want to add more products and expand my catalog.

The leverage I have is my huge customer base and a 7% ecommerce conversion rate. I also do a decent about of B2B. I'm more of a creative and logistics type, so I have little idea how to raise capital, sell a business and/or find investors. Has anyone navigated finding investors or sold a business on here?

    Need help

    Posted: 06 Nov 2021 11:03 AM PDT

As an independent consultant do you regularly share your powerpoint slides with the company you presented at? What if your presentation was with a client company that was set up through another larger company and now the larger company (who also are in the same kinda work) is requesting you for your power point slides. Is it okay? Am I feeling insecure for no reason? As some background, the slides don't contain any proprietary information or groundbreaking research. But the slides represent what I share with my other clients and are a product of my own research and work experience. I don't want to lose opportunities to work with either of these companies in the future and yet not feeling too certain about sharing my power point especially also because they have indicated i should remove my own website from it. Much appreciate for anyone's input. Thank you so much.

Help needed - How do I teach myself to become a better manager??

    Posted: 06 Nov 2021 01:17 PM PDT

Brief summary: been running a successful and lucrative business since 2016, in the personal service industry and Ive at most had 2 employees at the same time. I absolutely suck at managing people - but have realized I need to stop saying that and change the narrative if I want to scale this business. Im a behind the scenes person or one-on-one with clients kind of person, that's my real strength. Im great at the creative marketing/branding game and a closer when it comes to sales and relationships management. So those are my strong suits. How to encourage, build and manage a team/staff - have zero skills at that. I have put together concise and good operations manuals and an easy but clear Employee Handbook to be transparent about objectives - but if I can't get anyone to actually read this and care about following whats in them then its all useless, right. This has always left me frustrated and defeated as I feel I have such a strong and established business that I just need to SCALE and then Im golden. I grew up in Scandinavia so Ive been told my communication style is pretty stoic and matter of fact - which at this stage of my team building seems pretty non effective. I get that not everyone can be great at everything but I feel like I can't even trust myself to manage a manager to oversee others. I need guidance. How can I teach myself to become a better and more intuitive manager? Do I need a mentor who is specifically good at that? (Ive had business mentors in the past but not focused on this issue specifically). I can read books on this topic all day long but if it just doesn't shift anything in my managerial style then all that literature is useless. Help!

    Trying to start up (Rant?)

    Posted: 06 Nov 2021 10:21 AM PDT

So im trying to start growing my business organically and im taking my time with it. I am a professional window cleaner and its super hard.

I figured id start with asking family if theyd want it done and so far i had my brother say yes. Well this is where my rant begins. IVE NEVER FELT SO INSULTED IN MY LIFE.

My brother has a way bigger than average house meaning lots of windows which correlates to a lot of money.

Well after calling him and setting up a time he asks how much and jokingly said "not like a thousand certainly"

I was taken aback. A thousand was a BARGAIN for doing his windows. I kind of laughed nervously and didnt know what to say and he continued on saying he has a maid that cleans his windows. Well what she does and what a professional window cleaner does are completely different. Shes not getting 30-40ft in the air doing the outsides of the windows. I was even more disgusted that hed waste my time. Who does that?

Long story short at the end of the call he offered me an OZ of bud like im some kind of junkie loser that needs to work for drugs. Keep in mind he owns a construction business and thats all he hires is losers. I admit this offended me more than it should have but it made me feel like my job is for losers.... This was yesterday and im actually depressed about it. I dont know what to do right now but that really hurts.

That would be like me saying hey build me a house for a couple bucks. Its insulting. Its really eating at me because i already have no family as is because im the black sheep and never thought id hear that from someone let alone someone i had considered family.

I know being a business owner you cant be sensitive and im working on that but i dont want to have no feelings and be like a robot. Its not healthy...had it been a customer i obviously would have said no right on the spot and kept it pushing but this is different....

How do i brush this off and keep going...?

Got Capital but scared to spend

    Posted: 06 Nov 2021 03:26 AM PDT

So, I started Dropshipping a while back and literally put my mind and effort into it.

I put so much effort into it making sure everything was perfect; even made an LLC in the US, but once I launched it and saw that I got no sales, I've been very very demotivated.

I have the money to start another business but I'm just very scared it also won't work.

Any ideas on how to overcome this? I even have the time to work on it too. Or maybe any ideas that come into mind?

Are all online money making strategies variations of three main themes?

    Posted: 06 Nov 2021 11:03 AM PDT

I've been looking into finding a side hustle to earn money from home. And we've all seen the Top Ten (or 50, or 100, or 1,000) Ways to Make Money Online articles.

But I've put a few dozen hours into researching this, and so far every single strategy I have found for monetizing my online time has fallen into one of three categories: writing, selling stuff, and getting a job.

Right now I'm leaning towards selling, via dropshipping or amazon or another method. I've either owned my own business, or been a freelance consultant, since I was 25 (in the 80s). So working for someone else at this point would be a last resort. And since I'm currently writing a fiction novel for my full time career, writing for a side hustle as well would risk me burning out. I'd rather work for someone else online, doing user testing or such. But selling will give me a break from writing, and avoid me getting an online job (or gig or task or contract or micro-task), while letting make some money on the side. Also, I find technical challenges like building a website and working with a CMS (like Drupal, I really loved using Drupal) to be a marvelous break from my full time writing.

I'm wondering if possibly I am missing a lot of other methods because my Google Fu is weak? Does anyone here know of a way of making money online that does not involve writing, selling stuff, or getting a job? If so, please let me know, and if possible post a link to some credible source material.

I have thought a tons of idea of what to do with the company: doing dropshipping ( don't really need a company for that ) or selling oem food from china , which I later found out is actually quite hard as you need a (brand in China to make it work . ) So right now .. basically I could do anything with it but I have no idea what or where to start.

    I've received my invitational RFP

    Posted: 06 Nov 2021 10:27 AM PDT

It's overwhelming to me as I sort of fell into being self-employed but I don't want imposter syndrome to talk me out of applying and actually succeeding in the RFP and doing the work. The client only sent it to the 4 of us and I'm the only who is not apart of a firm/team.

If this is redundant admins feel free to remove. Thank you in advance :)

Beginner Entrepreneur Seeking Recommendations, Ideas and Support for My New Online-Business Idea

    Posted: 06 Nov 2021 04:58 AM PDT

I'm on the first few steps of creating my own online business. For secrecy of my own idea, I'll take the LEGO Factory as the business model. In short, LEGO Factory allows costumers to assemble their very own LEGO kits and sell them online.

The three* things needed for that are 1) a platform that connects LEGO fans with LEGO designers and allows the fans purchase the designers' LEGO kits. (an e-commerce website) 2) a design platform that allows designers design their LEGO kits. 3) an integration of those platforms for ease of use.

I need to create two such platforms and integrate them. For that I need to develop a design app, an e-commerce website and the integration.

I know this is a big project to take upon myself, but for now I prefer to work on it alone for a few reasons. 1) I take it as a journey on discovering entrepreneurship, web-dev, and so on, and I'm enjoying so far. 2) I'm scared of investing money on this project. 3) I don't want to get a freelancer from which I'll receive a product that I will not know to alter when I want to. 4) I'm terrified with sharing my idea, because there are many people who can do it so much better than me and the only leverage I'm gonna have is to be the first one to have a MVP.

What I'm asking for is 1) most concretely, I'm looking for reccomendations on management apps that will help me get a clearer vision on my idea (such as Miro) and managing my the entire thing (such as Clickup). Any other recommendations will be highly appreciated! 2) Please bring up any more points that I'm missing for a MVP. 3) just looking for support and wanting to feel part of a community.

It's great to slowly open up and ask for help, I'm excited of the future!

Do you believe in a dream job / dream entrepreneurship field?

    Posted: 06 Nov 2021 01:57 PM PDT

I don't. All the successful people I know, or just the people who didn't sink, including the one in the mirror, were chosen by their specialisation, not vice versa.

I mean, yeah, I've chosen once to be a programmer - at my 8's, when I asked daddy to buy me a book on how to code with Java. That's it. 6 years of education, 8 years of working as a developer, now I'm doing pretty fine, but it's nothing like "a dream job".

I wanted to be a professional composer, ended up writing 5 songs that made about 1k views in total, and never coming back. Why? Because to make the money I'm making in CS field right now, I have to be a celebrity composer, which isn't about sole skill, but luck and initial money and connections.

The winner isn't the one who works on something that he loves, IMHO - it's the fittest. You don't say to customer what you want him to buy - it's the customer who tells what he needs, and a bunch of competing businesses that are making their best to satisfy them.

How to spend marketing budget for dropship store | Marketing Budget

    Posted: 06 Nov 2021 11:29 AM PDT

A great product description is a key to a successful eCommerce business. If people can't find out what you're selling, they can't buy it. However, most store owners struggle with writing engaging descriptions that sell their products and instead opt for a boring copy that doesn't even convert )

    What is a marketing budget?

A marketing budget is the sum of money that you expect to spend in order to promote your online store and grow a business. It should include everything, from ads on social media sites like Facebook or Instagram all the way down to creating personalized offers for customers who visit at different times of day when they're most likely looking; these can help make sure people know about new arrivals before it's too late! The goal here isn't only long term success (although this will happen if we work really hard), but also shortening lead times so buyers don't have such an urge to buy something else while waiting around patiently by their phones every morning after opening hours end…not even kidding

As a rule, the digital marketing budget covers such areas as:

    Content marketing

    Social media promotion

    Email marketing

    Branding

    SEO

    Affiliate marketing

If you're on a budget, it's important to experiment with different marketing areas. You might be surprised by what turns out best for your business!

How to plan your marketing budget?

    Set your marketing goals

What's the difference between a goal and an aim? A goal is something you work towards, while an aim can be short-term or long-term. To understand what I mean let's have a look at 2 examples

    1. I want to increase the popularity of my ecommerce store
    2. I want to attract 500 unique store visitors every month

As you can see, the first goal is very broad and general. Actually it will be impossible to measure the success of my marketing activities because I don't know what "to increase popularity" means in this context? Making a store reviewed by Forbes or earning $10k monthly profit are both viable options but not exactly related when examining how popular an individual became through social media channels like Facebook & Twitter etc...

As for my second goal, it's ok because the objective is very specific and measurable. It's also attainable with time limits on when I can achieve these goals - if not then something needs changing in marketing strategy

Setting goals is a great way to break through barriers and achieve success, but it's not as simple as just picking one goal. The best strategy for marketing budget distribution? Choose 2-3 important objectives with your money spent wisely!

    Determine the overall marketing budget

We all know that marketing is important for the success of your company, but how much you invest can depend on what stage of growth or maturity level. If it may be considered a young startup with lots going on already, 5% total revenue could suffice as an initial budget to maintain market position and 11-12% would work well when trying not only grow rapidly by expanding into new markets while also increasing visibility through external appearances such as trade shows etc., but if slowing down doesn't sound too appealing after rapid expansion then 24+/-2%.

Marketers recommend spending about 12%, however some say investing up 20%-30

Choose the marketing channels you will use

Marketing is more than creating a beautiful website and posting on social media. It takes time to figure out how your target audience uses the internet, but it will be worth it in the end when you find new audiences for yourself which makes up an important aspect of business growth with these days'.

‍It can seem overwhelming at first glance because there are so many tools available - Facebook ads versus Google Shopping campaigns-but we recommend starting small by focusing just one or two channels until you learn what works best for YOU!

    Divide up your marketing budget

To get started, you need to create an advertising campaign on Facebook. The platform is easy and users can't be too hard for first-time advertisers since this will help them learn the ropes of how things work before investing large sums into more expensive platforms like Google Adwords or LinkedIn Marketing Solutions advertisements

The key thing that every marketer should know about marketing through social media channels such as Twitter etc., especially if they are new in business world with no experience yet - don't spend all your money at once! You may find yourself wasting time because not everything works right away which means quitting prematurely rather than trying different tactics till something really sticks

    Test your advertising campaign

You need to track the progress of your marketing campaign regularly and analyze it. The main thing is keep an ear open, otherwise you'll have a great chance spend much money on unnecessary or outdated things like Reddit; monitor such websites as this one! If understand that something is going viral - think meme- use them in order get more likes/shares for next month's expense report with yourself so there won't be any surprises when comes time to submit numbers at year end!

Analyze your results and make all the necessary changes

The last step is measuring your marketing campaign and optimizing it based on the results. We recommend you use UTM codes to track where traffic comes from, measure open rate for emails sent out with unsubscribe buttons included in them (or not), evaluate social media posts that are liked/shared etc., then analyze what worked best by focusing only on one goal per time period during this process--i.e., if there were 10 goals but an emphasis was put solely into Facebook Retweets instead of Twitter LIKES & SHAREs; these measurements would be made within Analytics tool built-in services like Google Analytics or Social Report Plus

Six channels that we spend most of our marketing budget on

Running our personal self-owned dropshipping stores, we surely experiment with their promotion by spending a lot of effort. Let's look at what we focus on and how much budget is available!

    Facebook advertising

If you want your ad campaign to be a success, it is important that the price of products matches customer expectations. If people think something will cost less than what they actually do then there's no way for them get excited about buying from you and promoting their new discovery on social media!

When establishing our advertising budget we always take into consideration how long an advertisement should last as well as its frequency - spending more time upfront saves us money in the end because potential customers don't forget anything if advertised often enough or have been sufficiently impressed by earlier efforts

    Instagram marketing

We're always looking for new ways to promote our stores, and we've found that Instagram shoutouts can be a great option. They let us save money while still providing customers with the best experience possible!

    Google shopping ads

Google Shopping is a great platform for experienced marketers to create ads and get their message across. For those who have some experience in this area, it's not difficult at all set up an ad on here but you need an understanding of how much money will be spent if someone clicks your advertisement before diving right into Google's marketplace with hopes they'll find success as well - because every click costs something!

It may sound crazy high budgeting when we recommend our clients start off small- maybe just 1 cent per each time one person views or visits one of our dropshipping stores from the very beginning instead paying what seems like more than reasonable rates now days considering many companies offer upwards around $20-$30 daily given enough promotion time which isn't

    Email marketing

Emails are the basis of your marketing campaign. Emails can be sent for free, but it's better to use special services such as MailChimp or Aweber which help you collect emails and divide those who subscribe into groups by goal type (i.e., people interested in taking a class together). We prefer this second option because they offer plans with different pricing options based on how many subscribers we have at any given time - from 2000 onwards our needs grow considerably!

    YouTube advertising

When advertising on YouTube, we usually spend money in 2 ways:

Buying products to promote and ordering shoutouts for them. We don't want anything too expensive because of the nature of this platform - not only are there fewer ads per day but they're also cheaper than what you would pay with other channels or advertisers! As a general rule-of-thumb though? An ad through Google can cost up to $200 USD according to your budget preference (or even lower!), so make sure it fits before committing fully).

How can I get a business idea that is safe and easy for just gaining experience?

    Posted: 06 Nov 2021 05:29 AM PDT

Im 21 years old and still studying. I want to start my own company and even though I already have a business idea, I think my business idea is not a good idea for a beginner with no knowledge and experience. (Because of huge startup costs and monthly costs also)

I want to go slow with my first business just so I can gain experience and learn how to be an entrepreneur. Something safe which will not get me in huge debts if it fails.

But what are some good business ideas for beginners like me, or how can I come up with a good business idea? I really want my own company but I don't have many interests, therefore its hard for me to come up with good ideas.

In the last year, I’ve quit the workforce and finally discovered my PURPOSE

    Posted: 06 Nov 2021 11:16 AM PDT

The couple of years has been challenging for pretty much everybody, but it's also served grounds for reassessment of one's life and discovery of what truly matters. This has been so widespread that it's even lead to millions of workers quitting their jobs, ie The Great Resignation.

Things like more flexible hours, better pay, career advancement have always been important… it's just now that people are pushing for it much more. That's a good thing. Leaving your job in search of greener pastures and discovering your purpose can be truly rewarding, but there are a few things to consider, which I discuss right here - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yp_grmFK09Y

In my case, I've been able to slowly move towards becoming a full-time content creator and entrepreneur. Perhaps this might be the shift that was needed in order for many of us to reset our careers, and for companies to meet their workforce a little bit more towards the middle.
