How Do I Find Out Who Now Owns My Son’s Student Loan Debt? Posted: 28 Nov 2021 08:00 AM PST My son defaulted on his federal student loans ($11,000) and they were sold to a company in early 2013. In late 2017 he received his last notice from the company that now had his loans and owed ($16,000) My son is very sickly and gets nervous even talking about his debt and asked me to help him settle, so here I am. I pulled out his TransUnion credit report yesterday and it has the original lender and date they sold the debt, but it doesn't have the name of the company that bought the debt. My son doesn't have the last bill for the new lender, nor does he have the information to get into the National Student Loan Date System. I'd like to find out who owns his debt and how much he owes so I can help him get back on track. Can anyone tell me any easy ways to help him discover who now owns his debt? Thanks [link] [comments] |
Can refinancing my loans have any bad impacts on my spouse’s application for citizenship? Posted: 28 Nov 2021 08:47 AM PST I am planning to refinance my loans soon. My spouse is currently applying for citizenship. You never know but we think the review process should not be a problem, we just have to wait and see. Because my spouse just about to begin the citizenship process, I am just thinking of refinancing my loans, since they're a a big debt, would have any negative side effect on his application? I do not think so but because this is obviously an important time for us I want to make sure me refinancing my loans wont somehow hurt my spouse's process. Loans are only in my name. I haven't thought of how this could hurt. Anyone been through this before and can tell me what happened, or anyone else know? [link] [comments] |
Is there a way to reduce student loan payments, but not face higher interest in the long run? Posted: 27 Nov 2021 04:03 PM PST I have held public interest employment for approximately four years now, so I am certainly considering PSLF as an option. The problem, however, is that I don't want to chain myself to public service and not feel able to consider private employment. With that said, here is my dilemma: Having not made any payments during Covid forbearance, I have a lot saved currently, money that would be very helpful as I am planning for major life purchases soon e.g. a house. I am weighing whether I should hold onto that money, or make a lump sum payment to get current on where I would be if covid never happened. With that in mind, the answer to the following question is instructive: If I am doing PSLF, then I want to make minimum payments because the interest will be irrelevant once I hit 10 years. If I opt out of public service, however, I don't want to find myself in a position where I have hardly made a dent in my debt. So my question is this: is there a mechanism by which I can greatly reduce my student loans (in the event I meet the 10 years for PSLF), but not find myself in a crap situation with a great deal of accrued interest (in the event I find private employment before hitting the 10-year mark)? Need advice for parent plus loans Posted: 27 Nov 2021 06:27 PM PST Hi, we signed parent plus loans for our kids their freshman year as we couldn't afford them to go to college otherwise. They know they will be paying us back eventually but it is causing me a lot of stress knowing the burden they will have one day. I'm so clueless with financial aid and the best financing options. Even if we should start making payments now while they are in school. We need someone to talk to but I don't know who? The financial aid office at their school? I feel like they wouldn't know how to answer questions regarding a parent plus loan and they would also be biased towards the school? Should I speak with a financial advisor? If so, how do I find one qualified in student loans? And not biased. Thanks for any help. I'm losing sleep! [link] [comments] |
Should I pay back some of my loan before the freeze ends? Posted: 27 Nov 2021 10:34 PM PST Hey everyone, I'm sure similar questions have already been asked but I hardly ever come on here so I apologize if you've already seen questions like this 1000 times. I'm in grad school and I'm about to finish my 2nd-to-last semester before I graduate. I've taken out ~$30k in unsubsidized federal student loans. I'm fortunate enough to attend a university in my hometown so I live with my parents and didn't have to pay for rent or food. Because of that, I have around $15k unused just chillin in my bank account. In hindsight I should have just never taken out the full loan amounts but here we are lol. Anyway, I understand that the interest freeze is ending at the end of January 2022 and so my question is the following: should I pay back the excess $$ that I have before the freeze is up so that I would only accrue interest on like half of what I initially took out? I know I don't technically need to pay anything back until after I graduate but I'm under the impression that you still accumulate interest while in school. Does that make sense? Any advice would be sick. Thanks! [link] [comments] |
Student Loan History through ACS/Conduent Posted: 27 Nov 2021 03:29 PM PST I'm trying to put together my complete loan payment history to move toward PSLF; I'm currently refinancing my FFELPs to Directs through Navient, but I had paid off an additional set of loans through ACS (now Conduent, apparently) before they sold the rest of the loans to Navient. Here's where I'm stuck: the Conduent student loan site appears to be a shell of it's former self, and no matter how many times I try to reset the password, it won't send the email allowing me to do so (tried across three browsers, and no dice). Is my payment history with ACS stored somewhere else? There appears to be no direct number I can see to speak with Conduent about student loans (they dumped all of them in 2019). Or is my payment history with ACS lost? [link] [comments] |
Biden Scam: Don’t extend or forgive. Pay your loans. Posted: 28 Nov 2021 08:07 AM PST How does everyone feel about the idea of paying back student loans early next year. The administration that ran on the promise to forgive loans will be demanding that you pay them back early next year during an economic pandemic. No extension on forbearance and no forgiveness. Just setting the stage to get back to payments. Since those are the facts, how does everyone feel? [link] [comments] |
Moving to an expensive city to pay loans Posted: 27 Nov 2021 11:23 PM PST So, I'm 23 and have 100k student loans from my master's degree. Anyway, I live in the South right now and make 90k. My rent is 1,000k. I have been working for a year and haven't paid my loans due to the pause. A job in SF just offered me 140k. Should I move to SF to so I can pay my loans faster? I am single and gay, and I don't plan on buying a house anytime soon. I understand Cali has high tax and rent is more, but I'm totally fine living with students and paying 1k for a rent for the next 5 years. [link] [comments] |
FAFSA Parent Income From Work Question Posted: 27 Nov 2021 05:06 PM PST Hello. My parents are married and filed jointly. I have their W2's but I am wondering if I am suppose to include what they received from unemployment.
