Posted: 07 Nov 2021 07:45 AM PST I have been at a company for 2 weeks. The company has(d) 6 accountants of which 5 have left (I am a replacement for 1 departure.) The company does not appear to have immediate plans for placing new hires, and the work is going to be split between myself and the one remaining employee. Being that I have only two weeks of employment with this firm, would it be acceptable (not to them) in your opinion to leave without 2 weeks notice? [link] [comments]
Posted: 07 Nov 2021 06:14 PM PST Will be having my first interview for an internship role at a big 4. Just wondering, what are some common questions in interviews for accounting roles that I could watch out for ? [link] [comments]

Am I doomed because I work in AP? Posted: 07 Nov 2021 04:14 AM PST I read the recent post from the church AP guy and even though the post had mostly a positive reaction, people still highlighted that AP is just a stepping stone and he would need to move somewhere else as quick as he can That made me really insecure because I work in AP and I feel that everyone treats me as the inferior human despite me dealing with a lot of IT crap (our systems are ancient) and high volume of Invoices. I also train people, make the provision report at the end of the month, do the bank reconciliation. I'm currently in the process of clearing up the received but not invoiced stock on the balance sheet, I was given recently the task to manage and forecast the cashflow. I also did the payroll for 2.5 months because the payroll girl left, on top of my normal duties. I'm kind of Jack of all trades but master of none. Or maybe I am just really stupid and don't deserve a good pay I'm enrolled in the Bachelor of Accounting which should be completed in 2-3 years (it's an online course). I really want more money and career progression, but not sure where can I flourish and whether I would always be a low tier AP girl.. I don't know what I want to hear. I just don't know who to talk to because no one in my social circle can give me a solid advice. And that post made me feel even more inferior. [link] [comments]
Career Expectations after the CPA exam Posted: 07 Nov 2021 11:10 AM PST Just wanted to see if anyone would mind sharing their experience with life after the CPA exams (promotions, raises/bonuses, etc.). Waiting on my final score, with about 1.5 years of industry experience and 1 year experience in public with my current job. Trying to see if/how I can leverage this or what to expect as I feel I'm underpaid for my position with my experience. [link] [comments]
On average, how many candidates make it to the final interview? Posted: 07 Nov 2021 01:57 PM PST I have a final interview tomorrow and was wondering how many people are still competing for one position. [link] [comments]
When are you returning office? Posted: 07 Nov 2021 06:57 PM PST I think most companies say November to start go back but would expect at least 2-3 days in Jan 2022? What's your company or teams communication? Is anyone actually excited going back? [link] [comments]
Any news on all-remote work for Deloitte and EY? Posted: 07 Nov 2021 04:07 PM PST I'm graduating in the spring and have an offer in advisory for a Deloitte delivery center and another advisory offer with EY. I've asked recruiters and my interviewers if there is an expected WFH/remote plan post-covid but none could give a solid answer and guessed it would be hybrid. I know PwC recently announced all US employees can work remotely, and there was a lot of speculation that the other Big 4 would follow suit to attract talent. For those who work at EY/Deloitte, has there been any talk of a fully remote option in the future? The offer deadlines are approaching but the option to work completely remote is the biggest factor for me [link] [comments]

How were you able to land your first accounting gig? Posted: 07 Nov 2021 02:59 PM PST I'm currently an undergrad student in Alberta majoring in accounting and don't have any kind of office or accounting experience on my resume. I made a career change from industrial jobs to this and I'm not really sure how I could get my foot in the door. Anywhere I look online accounting firms require you to have accounting experience! Any advice as a newbie? [link] [comments]
Posted: 07 Nov 2021 09:16 PM PST TLDR: Do any of you find accounting to lower your sex drive? Just cause I find the relationship advice subs trash I'll post here 😂 So I 30M went from graduating college with 150 credits in 4 years to finishing the CPA before I started in public accounting that fall. 3.5 years of public and 4 years in industry. My partner 25F (been a year of dating) asked me why I never initiate sex as it makes her feel unattractive (which is fair). And I was thinking, all the CPA studying to insane year round public burn out hours to now mind numbing, soul crushing industry work Monday through Friday, 8 years of accounting just has changed me… or just getting old haha but genuinely curious if any of you had something similar. Are you working hard or just a long time during busy season? Posted: 07 Nov 2021 07:28 PM PST I'll be graduating in December and most likely starting be starting in January or Summer(depending on which offer I accept) in Big 4. I know the hours are terrible and I'm prepared for the worse of what I've seen on here of 80, 90, or even 100(prepared as in I know the comet is going to hit me, not I'm ready to take on the comet). So, the length of time working I can already wrap my head around but I'm curious about the actual work. Is the work any different(harder stuff) or is it just even more of the work that you had before? As a campus hire, I'm expecting this will be hard regardless since all of it will be new to me, but for the seasoned vets of the accounting world, do find that the work is any more difficult to do? Also, if anyone has been a new staff over the past couple of years how was your first busy season? Especially those that started in busy season. [link] [comments]
Could you be hired as an account and/or be a CPA if you are a felon? Posted: 07 Nov 2021 04:15 AM PST I recently got a job offer at a accounting firm, and then I realized they were going to do a background check when I accepted. So I told them I have a felony on my record, I described it as pretty much just a misunderstanding. Not related to money or theft. Do you think they'll still hire me? They said they'll get back to me after the results come in. Also can you be a CPA with a felony on your record? [link] [comments]

Canadian undergraduate student seeking US CPA designation Posted: 07 Nov 2021 06:39 PM PST I'm a third-year university Accounting major from Canada with the dream of one day living in the state of Arizona with my US CPA designation. However, I've never understood the process of achieving it and am only familiar with the Canadian process, to an extent. I currently work in my hometown in Canada as an intern for a public global firm, but I've always wanted to live in the states. I enjoy the profession and my studies thus far but I'm wondering what my next steps are to achieving this endeavour and what is the fastest way to do it? My parents recently purchased a house down there, and my grandparents have been there forever. It would be a dream of mine to spend the remainder of their declining years with them somewhere that isn't cold 8 months of the year. Additionally, I've always had a passion for golf so a warmer climate is definitely my calling. For someone who graduates in a year and a half, what do you recommend? Is there a graduate program available to help plant my feet down there? Thank you for reading. [link] [comments]
Posted: 07 Nov 2021 11:47 AM PST Hi all, I have been working in a small accounting firm for about 4 years focusing on tax and got an offer to work in a top 10 mid size firm. I will be coming in as a senior tax associate focusing more on the high net work individuals, but also some entity returns as well. I decided to part ways b/c I have been working in a small firm since college and I want to experience working in a larger firm and grow in my career. Maybe even at the B4. (Nothing negative transpired between me and the firm or the coworkers.) I got a counter offer and the salary is about 20% more than what I will be making at this midsize firm. I will also be getting a total bonus for 25k if I choose to stay. Annually I will be making 17k less if I leave. Am I making a big mistake not taking the counter offer? In the next 5-10 years I am sure I will still be in public accounting. Please let me know what other detail will be helpful. Thanks, [link] [comments]

Career help for a soon-to-be college student. Posted: 07 Nov 2021 09:32 PM PST I am going to graduate in 2021. Have been really thinking about my future, and I'm currently leaning towards a degree in accounting or finance. My dream (sort of ) is to get into the big 4 in the accounting industry as soon as possible after I graduate from college in the UK. I also plan on getting a CPA in the US ASAP after graduating. What is the fastest course to get into the big 4? I know that this ambitious endeavour is no walk in the park, but I consider myself to be really studious and think I can endure it. Any advice?
