Shoutout to every seniors out there Posted: 19 Nov 2021 03:26 PM PST I am not kidding when I say y'all are the backbone of public accounting. I know things can be bad, but just know that us new hires are so damn grateful for your mentorship. My senior out here telling me good job after he fixed 50% of my workpaper. Mf out here telling me to log off at 5:30 when homie himself is probably gonna be grinding until 10pm to wrap up the planning. You guys are the real MVP. [link] [comments]
Pretty much what happened at our company regarding our return to the office Posted: 19 Nov 2021 07:18 AM PST Management in the beginning: "OH NO! what are we going to do, how will we manage without being in the office and working from home remotely!?" Management 2 weeks later: "WOW amazing job everyone! We can't believe it! We are so impressed with everyone's ability and flexibility to work remotely. Everything getting done just as fast, if not faster than before" Management 3 months later: "WOW you guys really nailed it. Idk if well even need to go back to the office lol. Great Job!" Management 12 months later: "I know most of you enjoy working from home, since things are cooling down, we are thinking of returning to the office, nothing serious, just a few days here and there. We don't want to have everyone in the office just to say "we have everyone in the office". Well find something that makes sense! Great job, your ability to work from home has proven and shown us that you can do this job remotely and be trusted" Management 15 months after: "Effective immediately, you will be required to report to the office four days per week, no excuses! Be sure to update the new "in-office-tracking-file" which will show everyday you report to the office so that we can obsess over it and use it as a punishment tool to heckle you if you don't have your ass in a seat 4 out of the 5 days! Anyone who is not physically present in the office will be emailed with your supervisor, your supervisor supervisor, and HR CCed on the email. You will be required to explain yourself via 1000 word essay. Disciplinary actions, including termination, may be warranted for such an offense. Please update the "in-office-file" immediately!" ....well that escalated quickly. [link] [comments]
Can we all agree to promote a healthy, flexible work style when we hit that VP/CFO level? Posted: 19 Nov 2021 09:34 AM PST So many of us complain here, and we have 258k people on r/Accounting, with a few thousand on at any given time. Can we all agree that we push remote/flexible work, suitable hours, non-abrasive environment, transparent hiring practices, and proper coaching/training/mentoring? I know a majority of us here are junior - mid mgmt, but there will be a transitionary phase between now and 10 years where all current director/VP/CFO/CEO jobs will be open for people like us. When we all become decision-makers for our departments and companies, we can make a healthy work environment the norm. Doesn't matter if you're Big4, boutique, industry, government, or entrepreneur, just take the problems you see here and be the change. Thanks for reading, now I'll go back to meme posts. Posted: 19 Nov 2021 06:48 PM PST When I was a freshman I turned to this sub for advice and I want to return the favor as much as I csn. So aside from regularly commenting here, I guess AMA if you want! Yes I know it's Friday and I should be doing something better, but my GF is in Florida and I have the house to myself so I am drinking, smoking, making a mess, watching fucking blockbuster movies with the volume all the way up, and posting on r/accounting. Sue me. [link] [comments]

I started my career at the absolute best time in Deloitte history - (in terms of comp) Posted: 19 Nov 2021 06:58 AM PST Salary on start date in Sep.2019 - $55,500 Updated salary starting Jan.2022 - $82,700 With the $35,000 retention bonus, my 2022 gross income will be at least $117,700. Not including any AIP, special awards, etc. that may come in 2022. Yes, I know the retention bonus is only a one time thing. But still - as an Audit Senior 1 in a MCOL, after just 2-3 years out of college, my total comp this next year is insane to me. [link] [comments]

Got chewed out pretty bad by boss today. Posted: 19 Nov 2021 10:09 PM PST Hey, everyone. I had a terrible day at work, first off I'm gonna admit that I'm somewhat of a forgetful guy and my organizing skills need a little improvement. As a result of that I messed up a foreign inbox by setting up a wrong currency exchange when making the payment, I figured out I fucked up as soon as I saw the payment summary and told my boss. When I told him, the guys was fuming and started yelling and cussing, I figured it was because I sometimes have messed up some invoice detalla such as dates, or missing costa centers. Still, I fucked up and I really wasn't feeling like doing anything. I finished my tasks and went for a wall, I still feel pretty bummed out about this while situation. Any way I can quickly improve my attention to detail and organizing skills? [link] [comments]

Posted: 19 Nov 2021 07:46 PM PST Let's say an imaginary person has two job offers on the table. Same commute, same salary, same benefits, same bonus, same everything. The only difference is that one job is at a small, 2 CPA private practice, and the other is at large national firm (not B4). Which would you take? Hypothetically speaking, AND purely for the sake of fantasy, I'm the aforementioned imaginary person. Btw, both firms depreciate land SL, so that's not a deal breaker for either. Careers to transition to as a CPA Posted: 19 Nov 2021 05:14 PM PST Pretty much what the title says. Have any of you transitioned out of an accounting field or know somebody who has. What was the new field and how did you (or they) do? I'm currently about 5 years in, did 4 busy season in public before I went private and I still kind of hate my job. [link] [comments]
Posted: 19 Nov 2021 02:17 PM PST Hey all, I have received 3 job offers, wondering what you would choose:
About me: 1 year post graduation, 1 year staff experience in industry, no CPA Let me know your thoughts! I was also contemplating if I can do 1 and 3 together haha 😂 Edited to add more info. [link] [comments]

Posted: 19 Nov 2021 02:40 PM PST Since so many people are leaving public now I'd like to know what sorts of offers people are getting. I have 3 years experience at a midsize firm and was asked what my expected salary would be. I said $100k and it sounded like that would be no issue. Now I am wondering if I lowballed myself.

Posted: 19 Nov 2021 04:34 PM PST Hello all! I'm interested in accounting, and since I'm planning to go back to school soon (in my original field), my brain is telling me that I might want to try another career (since I'm going back to school, let's see all the options). Om interested in a few things, and accounting is one of them, I'm honestly not sure why. I love math, numbers and organizing so I guess I always thought it's a career that I would potentially love. But I don't actually know what it is. I'm slowly reading through the wiki page, and doing some research, so I won't ask you to tell me all about it (but if you do have advice for someone like me who might want to do it, don't be shy). But, there is one question I have: is it possible at all to work that job part time? I'm not closing any doors, but I might be interested in helping people with their end-of-year taxes (and I'm in Canada). I understand that some months are busier, of course, but generally do some accountants work part time? Maybe being self employed and choosing fewer contracts? Thank you! [link] [comments]
Thinking about switching careers. Any help needed! Posted: 19 Nov 2021 01:42 PM PST I am currently a social worker, I am rethinking my profession. I love it but it's been hard financially. I was looking into accounting as my next career path. However, I don't know how this process would work. Or if it is even worth it? I have my bachelors in Social Work. Any help would be helpful! What’s the compensation for M&A roles? Posted: 19 Nov 2021 04:16 PM PST My goal is to work an advisory role involving M&A at a Big4 or a firm like RSM/BDO/GT. How much is compensation for these type of roles? [link] [comments] |
