Rant of the day, don't be my friend.... Posted: 01 Oct 2021 07:50 AM PDT (Location: Colorado but I don't imagine it making much difference) So myself: Gets insurance for both cars including comp/collision and good liability with rental car as well. Also an Umbrella policy on top of that.... Friend: Buys a car for $5k, financed, lending company doesn't require comp/collision. She maintains a bare minimum liability policy. Friend can't afford to replace this car. Friend works at an office 50 miles away when she purchases this car. Is dependent on car for transportation. Friend gets a better paying job a mere 30 miles away, still dependent on car for transportation, 3 days before start date she gets in an accident, is at fault. Car is non drivable and totaled. Friend can't afford rental (and no rental car coverage of course), leans on me for rides to work, I oblige her some, but have my own commitments. She can't make it to work on time, she gets fired.... She tries to fight her insurance and their insurance claiming it wasn't her fault, they don't believe her (neither do I, really) no money forthcoming for her car. She is now stuck with car payment and no car, and no job. For time being she gets hired at old job, and gets Lyft rides there, once in awhile I oblige her and take her to job. I can't imagine this job is worth the cost of Lyft rides and she's probably going to have to walk on her car loan, let them repo a wreck and damage her credit. Don't be my friend.... Insure your stuff....insure it properly too. I couldn't imagine comp/collision costing much on a 5k car....would have saved so much heartache. Rental car coverage would have kept her employed and is dirt cheap... I don't see this going well for her at all barring a miracle bailout. [link] [comments] |
Does my co-signer insurance policy cover the car? Posted: 02 Oct 2021 02:46 AM PDT (California) I help my sister get a car with my credit which was better so I ended up being the main Signer for the car, she became the co-signer. The car will only be used by her. I wanted to ask will her insurance policy cover the car even if she's the co-signer? I don't have a insurance policy on my own I am under my parents insurances but the new car won't be on their policy because none of us will be using her car. I ask because I notice that all the paperwork says my name as the owner and her names not on the co-owner section. [link] [comments] |
Not at fault accident, don't know other party insurance and can't get it from police, what to do? Posted: 02 Oct 2021 01:08 AM PDT Location NY. Following up on this post with some other questions I thought of. Apologies for posting more than once, this has never happened to me before and I'm definitely out of the loop. tldr of previous post I was in an accident where I was not at fault, witnesses who can corroborate that spoke to police. Suspect the car is totaled but hoping it's not. So basically I've run into a few issues. As a "starving student" I have the absolute bare-bones insurance so I do not have collision coverage. In theory, this shouldn't be too much of a problem since I'm not at fault. However, the at fault party was taken away from the scene by an ambulance relatively quickly and I have no idea what her insurance company is or anything about her identity. I talked to my insurance company, and they said that they can't do anything until they know the at-fault party's insurance and identity, which they should get whenever the police report is released. I also won't have a car rental covered and I can't repair it in the meantime. They advised me to call the police department for a "face sheet" which has the key details. However, I called the police today and they said they don't do face sheets at all, and that the report will be released in 7-10 days from after the accident. I'm hoping this is a conservative estimate but I suspect that will end up being the true wait. To make matters worse, since my car was not drivable it was towed and is sitting in the tow lot accumulating $26 a day in storage fees. I've been reading about how you supposedly have a duty to "mitigate your damages" meaning I should try to get the car out of the yard ASAP. But like...where would I put it? I park in an alley which a tow truck definitely wouldn't fit into, and then the car would need to be re-towed to whatever body shop/salvage yard the other party insurance company wants. The car is definitely not drivable. It feels like a chicken and egg situation. I need the other party's insurance info because I was in an accident that caused severe damage, but because the accident was so severe she was whisked away in an ambulance and I have no way to get that information. So basically here are my questions: 1) Do I truly have no recourse until the police report is released 7-10 days after the accident (after which I'm sure there would be further delays for the insurance companies to talk to each other etc etc)? Not even a way to get a rental? 2) How long can I leave the car in the tow yard? I guess there's no point asking because there's really nothing I can do about it unless y'all have a better idea than I do. For what percentage of the storage bill will I be on the hook? 3) At the risk of stereotyping, the other party was over 40 and had an expensive-looking car, so I'm hoping she has reputable insurance. Say the police report is released within 7 days, roughly how long after that should I expect until the car is either at the body shop or in the salvage yard (read: out of the tow yard)? Thanks! Posted: 01 Oct 2021 02:37 PM PDT Received a settlement offer on the contents of our house after a total-loss. Two options: 1) Replace all items up to replacement value (RV), submit receipts. 2) Receive Actual cash value (ACV) plus 20% as a one time final settlement. We've decided to go with option 2. ACV is 66% of replacement value, so when bumped up by 20%, their settlement offer under option 2 is paying 80 cents on the dollar (of RV). Is this reasonable? Is there any realistic cases to be made to push for more? Does it make sense to bring in a third party adjuster? Location: Canada. [link] [comments] |
Car insurance and monthly premiums question. Posted: 01 Oct 2021 05:38 PM PDT I'm new to the US and wonder how car insurance policies in California work… in the event that I'm in a small accident (get side bumped from a driver coming out of their driveway) and both parties with insurance decide to use insurance to cover for expenses… a) if no party assumes responsibility, will both policies go up? b) If only one party assumes responsibility will only their policy go up? c) policies will go up / down with time, and worrying about who's fault is it prior to making a claim is almost irrelevant? BCBS Trying to avoid paying claims Posted: 01 Oct 2021 07:03 PM PDT Okay so like 4 years ago my family met its max out of pocket around the end of October. Right before we met it, insurance started denying every single thing and then the appeal process kept "getting delayed". Then my dad broke his ankle and it sent us over the max OOP and they approved everything. This year, we are about to hit it again and all of a sudden, everything has been getting denied. The appeal process has begun but I'm concerned they'll push us off until the end of the year and our coverage will reset. Is there a way to fight it? My brother was in an in-patient treatment center covered by our insurance and met the criteria BCBS sent us regarding coverage. After he started treatment they denied it and he's been sent home. When my mom pointed that out that he meets all criteria and they had approved before he went, they told her she can appeal. In the mean time he is without care that he needs. It seems like when we get close to a milestone (deductible or OOP) they suddenly try to deny everything. Is this common practice? Is it even legal? Do I have any recourse? Edit to add: they also have denied my echocardiogram, despite it being doctor ordered and should be covered [link] [comments] |
Fire in commercial are of Walk-Up Apartment Posted: 01 Oct 2021 02:58 PM PDT Hello friendly people! I live in a two-story walk up above a business, there was a small electrical fire in the business this afternoon which as you can imagine means there's quite a bit of smoke, smells, and residue left over. I have renter's insurance, but curious since the fire was not actually in my apartment unit (nor did it spread there) should I file my own claim or try to become part of the businesses claim where the fire took place. Sincerely appreciate any help/thoughts, thanks! [link] [comments] |
Weird health insurance letter has me a bit worried Posted: 01 Oct 2021 06:15 PM PDT Location: Washington state Hi there, I've been getting a lot of medical treatment lately because I was recently diagnosed with a neurological condition (idiopathic hypersomnia). A third party apparently affiliated with my health insurance company has started sending me letters that appear to be trying to get me to admit that my medical treatment is due to a workplace or car accident, or accident on commercial property. The letter comes with a form to fill out that lets you say that you're getting treatment for an illness, but then it says, "where did the accident or injury occur?" and it doesn't give you the opportunity to point out that the illness didn't "occur" anywhere. I feel like filling out this form is only disadvantageous to me. I realize that health insurance works way differently if you are injured at work, in a car accident, or on commercial property. Even being aware of that, I feel like I can't win if I fill it out because of how it pigeonholes me. They give you the option to call, but that makes me nervous, too. The form is so shady, it doesn't give me a place to explain I have a lifelong medical condition. It forces me to say "where and when" the illness occurred. I started filling it out but stopped, because it feels like I'm just going to get myself into trouble even when my medical bills are completely legitimate. Do I have to turn this form in? What happens if I keep ignoring it? Will they go away? Can they "assume" I had an accident/injury and cancel paying my bills? Are there any consequences if I do not fill out the form they want me to fill out? I have included the second letter they sent me and the form. I hope to get some help. Thank you for your time. How does homeowners insurance work with a claim? Posted: 01 Oct 2021 05:20 PM PDT Lets say i claim flooding and the insurance covers $20,000 of it. Do they just send me a $20k check and thats it? Or do they require i show proof of hiring contractors to fix the place? [link] [comments] |
Posted: 01 Oct 2021 06:45 AM PDT Hello, I was hoping someone could help me out or point me to where I can find the answer. My wife and I were approved for 100% coverage of IVF through her insurance plan with her company, which we are very grateful for because we know not all insurance companies cover it in our state. Unfortunately her company was just sold to another large company and subsequently her benefits including her healthcare plan is going to change. My question is, since we're approved for IVF already, can they just stop paying for the treatments once her policy ends? Does anyone have any experience with this? [link] [comments] |
Mandated insurance vs optional insurance Posted: 01 Oct 2021 05:09 PM PDT Hello r/Insurance Coworker and I got into a discussion regarding health insurance and it got me to thinking. Generally speaking for mandated insurance like car insurance, if you were to drive of course, is there a limit for which insurance can charge you? But for optional insurance such as life insurance, is there no such thing? My theory is that for mandated insurance it cannot be cost prohibitive for most so if you are going to force people to buy it. But for optional insurance there is no price ceiling generally and companies will charge you as per their risk assessment. And I assume that is an actuary's job? Is that generally true? Hopefully this wasn't difficult to read. Thanks for your time. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 01 Oct 2021 09:08 AM PDT How do I even start. I was on my phone this morning just checking my bills and what not. I went onto my car insurance app (StateFarm) and noticed my bill was over x2 times the normal balance I pay each month. I have automatic payments on, and was and still am very confused as too why it is so high and why I have a balance. I also noticed my past 2 automatic payments were not taken out of my bank account. I called my agent and she noticed a car was added to my plan that's in Missouri.... I LIVE IN TEXAS. I've never even visited Missouri! I drive a minivan for Christ sake, not a 2012 Volvo. I don't understand how a car was added to my policy without my consent. My insurance agent doesn't know how it happened either. Does someone have answers? [link] [comments] |

Dental insurance - orthodontics Posted: 01 Oct 2021 10:10 AM PDT So when I was 16 I got braces. I did not have any type of insurance back then so my mom paid out of pocket. I'm 32 now and I need braces again (because I unfortunately didn't wear my elastics first time around). My place of work doesn't offer insurance so I have to get medical insurance through the marketplace, they don't cover orthodontia. I'm thinking about getting a dental policy from cigna, humana, whoever that has orthodontic coverage. But my question is, if I get a dental policy will they even cover orthodontic care since I've had braces before? I'm seeing that a lot of these dental policies have a lifetime limit on orthodontic care. But I don't know if that would apply to me or not since the first time I had braces I didn't have or use dental insurance. Can anyone help answer this for me? Also does anyone have any recommendations on good dental/orthodontic policies? [link] [comments] |
Household employee - car insurance what to do? Posted: 01 Oct 2021 06:22 AM PDT Hi all, I have a nanny who takes care of my kids. With one kid starting school she is going to start driving them in our vehicle for pick ups, etc. Do I need to carry any special type of insurance to ensure the vehicle and liability is covered in the event of an accident while she is driving? Does she need to be listed as a non-household driver or anything like that? we are with Progressive in Florida, land of the uninsured. edit: added her as a driver, $850 increase in annual premium, oof! Thanks in advance! [link] [comments] |

Should I file an insurance claim for a chipped windshield? Posted: 01 Oct 2021 09:20 AM PDT I have a small chip on my windshield. Located in CT, have State Farm and a $0 glass deductible. Are there any downsides to filing a claim for this, or should I pay out of pocket? [link] [comments] |
Doordash Insurance Adjuster NOT Being Responsive With Resolving Claim. Posted: 01 Oct 2021 08:46 AM PDT My friend got into an accident on the first of last month that was his fault. Since he was Doordashing and put that in his claim, he must obtain a document in writing saying that Doordash will not cover him so that his insurance will cover him (DD is covering the victim's car). Throughout this process, the adjuster working for Doordash insurance has been unresponsive to him. It mostly consists of calling his number with him either answering then immediately hanging up, putting him on hold and then hanging up after 20 minutes, or not responding at all. Out of the several times of him calling, he was able to reach DD insurance only twice. However, his insurance was able to reach out to DD insurance and they said that they will send the necessary document(s) to go through with the claim within the next few days. I am worried about the validity of that statement since the DD adjuster has not been answering him at all. We are now in October. This accident happened on the first of the September. For a call to action, i was suggesting to him to send an email to that DD adjuster stating that he has been trying several times to reach him during the course of the month to no avail, and if he doesn't respond by x day, he will assume that he will continue to ignore any communication attempts and he will subsequently file a complaint with the Texas Department of Insurance. Is this a way to go when it feels like he is getting so close to getting what he needs? If not, what is the best course of action from here? [link] [comments] |
Posted: 01 Oct 2021 12:14 PM PDT I'm switching jobs and will have a six-week gap in insurance. Cobra is insanely expensive ($1400+). I have 60 days to sign up, so my plan is to just not sign up and be careful crossing the street. One question -- say on day 20 I get into an accident that sendes me to the hospital. I can still sign up and have that emergency room visit covered retroactively so long as I pay? [link] [comments] |
Getting into insurance sales, have an interview with Farmer’s Insurance (NEED ADVICE) Posted: 01 Oct 2021 11:51 AM PDT So I am 22 and currently working retail, but want to move on to something more lucrative and less physically demanding. I'm not going to school right now and don't see that happening for a while so I want to get into a career field that has high earning potential; I am highly driven and motivated when it comes to my work. There are a lot of insurance agencies hiring around me and Farmers reached out to schedule an interview with me next week. I see many mixed employee reviews online and have read that they have low customer satisfaction, so that is a bit concerning considering I have no experience in the insurance field and very little sales experience, so I'm probably already going to struggle with building my clientele at first. I was wondering if anyone with experience could give me some real feedback on Farmers (anyone know the base salary and how their commission structure works? I could not find that info), suggestions on other insurance agencies that are good to work for, and share with me any tips for getting into and succeeding in this field. Or really any field that would be worth looking into. My family is pretty much absent in my life and I am in desperate need of some guidance. I live on my own and I just want to make something out of myself, I do not want to be stuck in retail for the rest of my life. Thanks. [link] [comments] |
Carrier work from home internet requirements Posted: 01 Oct 2021 11:42 AM PDT I'm considering getting out of the office and applying to some remote jobs. I see that some job postings have the internet requirements listed. Allstate gets even more detailed with their technical requirements: Access to hardwire (plug-in) ethernet/network cable to your modem/router during your shift. • Wifi connection is not allowed • Cannot use satellite, hotspots, MIFI devices, wireless AC wall plug-in extenders, repeaters, boosters and/or pods nor wall outlets (smart home feature) My conundrum is that my modem is in a very inconvenient location and far from the bedroom that would be my home office and wouldn't be feasibly easy to hard wire into. Those who work from home, is your equipment directly wired into your modem? Any tips for making this work but not making it a trip hazard for everyone in my house? 🥴 [link] [comments] |
Are GPA (Group Pension Administrators) - PHCS Multiplan A Scam? Posted: 01 Oct 2021 11:23 AM PDT ***Sorry in advance I do not understand insurance very well***My employer has us enrolled through an institution called GPA (Group Pension Administrators) and we have what is called a PHCS Multiplan. I am a Florida resident who's trying to find a Psychiatry & Behavioral Health professional, specifically a psychiatrist, so I can treat my depression. I am trying to find someone that's in-network. Both:https://www.multiplan.com/webcenter/portal/ProviderSearch And:https://www.floridamedicalclinic.com/specialties/psychiatry-behavioral-health/ Have outdated registries. All the offices I call, after speaking with their offices and checking the insurance, do not accept PHCS multiplan. Is this normal to have such difficulty finding an in-network psychiatrist in Florida? I just want to get better. Counselors' visits are about $100 on average. I can see one whose out of network (because non are) and then send what is called a "superbill" to the insurance. After paying a $60 copay they may cover the difference. Psychiatric evaluations + ADHD exams can run in excess of $650. Should I budget out the time and money to do this out of pocket? Is that just the way it is? Is my insurance competitive? Can I find better coverage at another company? [link] [comments] |
