Is my VUL worth it? Insurance

Is my VUL worth it? Insurance

    Is my VUL worth it?

    Posted: 31 Oct 2021 04:00 AM PDT

    Hello,

So, my mom pressured me to get a VUL from our relative when I was still a fresh grad and new hire back then, I still don't know a single thing about it. I was sure she doesn't know about too, but she still pressured me to get one because my tito's effort to come to our house would be wasted. He talked about it but I don't understand a thing about it.

Till now, I don't really know how VUL works. It's been two years since I got it. I'm still skeptical.

Here are the details, I'm still not sure if this is okay to continue, please help me:

    SUN MAXILINK PRIME

    Issue date: November 2019

    This is paid quarterly: 4,644.39

    Face amount: 350,000

    Cash surrender Value: 11,826

Suplemmental benefits: 1. Critical Illness (500,000); Maturity date: Nov 9, 2068 2. Accidental Death (350,000); Maturity date: Nov 9, 2068, 3. Total disability (regular premiums will be paid during total disability of life insured beginning before nov. 9, 2029)

    Beneficaries: Parents (Father & Mother)

    Life insured: 10 years

I'm not sure because the face amount is kinda low? Help me, please. If it's not worth it to continue anymore, will I get anything back and do I still need to pay for something? I also don't want to let my relative know, is there a way to ask to cancel this without letting him know and what are the requirements?

    Thank you.

Let's talk collector car insurance claims

    Posted: 30 Oct 2021 05:56 PM PDT

I've been insured with Grundy for the last 4 years. Prior to that, I was with Hagerty for a decade and a half. Never made claims with any of them. In fact, in my 25 years of driving, I've never had to make a claim (knock on wood!). Also, totally clean driving record (again, knock on wood!).

Something fell on my car, damaging the fender (dent and deep paint damage) and hood (minimal dents and paint damage). I wanted to take care of the damage out of pocket, but every shop I've taken it to has quoted me numbers that aren't the most palatable. Also, spraying just those two panels would leave the other fender and bumper in pock-marked condition (rock chips, etc.). The most proper way of doing would be to obviously blend into the other fender and bumper, but the shops are telling me that, given the color (non-metallic black), the lack of blend won't be too noticeable if I decide to out-of-pocket this.

So, I'm left with A. weighing whether I do the work out of pocket or B. making a claim with Grundy and risk a potential rate increase and/or drop but getting a more proper repair out of it. Given that I have two cars insured with them, and given that they are way cheaper than Hagerty, I'd rather not be dropped. I also don't want my premium to jump sky-high as a result of this.

So, has anyone made a comprehensive (not collision) claim with Grundy? How did it work out? Did the rates go up? Did they drop you on the next go-around?

Are there any agents who can tell me what will likely happen to my premium in the event I do make a claim? This is in California, by the way.

Daughter had a very minor accident while practicing. Should we sort this out without the insurers? In UK.

    Posted: 31 Oct 2021 01:10 AM PDT

Per the title. Yesterday my daughter was practicing for her final test (with my wife in the car) and scraped along the side of a parked car. Minor damage to a rear door (scratches)and very minor scratches to the wheel arch. Damage is likely to be around £500 to £800, our excess is £250. There were no witnesses.

We have made contact with the owner of the other car, but nothing more at this stage.

I was wondering whether whether I could offer to settle and pay for the repairs to the other car without going through the insurers.

Could this backfire on my daughter / on us? Is the Insurer likely to accuse us of 'hiding' an accident from them? Will she still be insurable after this?

We are obviously keen that this doesn't affect her insurance in the future.

Can vision insurance be applied if bill is already paid?

    Posted: 31 Oct 2021 12:48 AM PDT

Hello. I have a question and was hoping somebody could give me some advice on what to do.

This is my 3rd time going to any doctor as an adult. I visited the eye clinic yesterday and placed an order for contacts lenses. I just looked more thoroughly at my invoice and they did not apply insurance. I didn't think to ask if insurance was applied. I didn't think that was to even ask. They should have my insurance on file so I thought they would automatically apply it. I'm thinking "if they have my insurance on file I should be ok." So the thought never popped up in my head.

Since I already paid for everything, is it too late for insurance to be applied? If it isn't too late, who do I call to get it applied? Since this was done over the weekend I should have time to cancel the order and reorder and have insurance applied? I'm so confused on what to do

Edit: if this helps, I just looked at my invoice for when I bought my glasses back in September and they applied my insurance for that visit. I remember while I was talking to my actual eye doctor that she remembered seeing me a year or two ago but she had a hard time finding my file. She found it and said there were two profiles for me in the system for some reason. Maybe one of those profiles doesn't have insurance and the other does and the receptionist brought up the profile that didn't have insurance?

Hit friends car with no insurance

    Posted: 30 Oct 2021 08:21 PM PDT

    Hey, r/Insurance

I was hosting a party with a few friends over, one parked in my driveway. There was no drinking involved at all. I pulled my (uninsured) farm vehicle out of the garage and dented his door. The farm vehicle being uninsured is legal, it was never driven on any public roads. He was also not in the vehicle. I live in Canada British Columbia. How fucked am I? Thanks

    Billing Questions for Health Insurance

    Posted: 30 Oct 2021 11:13 PM PDT

    Hello,

I'm kinda new into the world of insurance and how everything operates. I just had a few quick questions about how I'm billed, how the insurance system works, and what I should expect to receive in terms of mail/bills/claims.

    1. Earlier this year, I had a routine visit with my doctor, who requested I get some bloodwork done for lingering issues. Yada Yada, got it done, got an explanation of benefits a while later explaining everything. Here's where my confusion sets in. At the time, I had my primary insurance from my job, while also having health insurance under my parents. The letter from my primary explained I still owe X amount as a deductible. After this is done, will this amount be sent to my secondary insurance to see if they will cover the rest of the deductible? Or am I stuck paying whatever my primary doesn't cover as my deductible when the bill comes?

    2. On the same topic, how does having a primary and secondary insurance generally work? I had primary insurance from my job along with insurance from my parents for a while, and didn't know how it worked.

    3. I eventually had to leave my job due to health complications, and some of the claims I had went through my primary insurance and got denied because I had lost insurance from not being able to work. Will the claims automatically be re-billed to the insurance I have from my parents after being denied? Or do I need to contact the places and inform them they need to contact my secondary insurance even if both insurances are in their system?

    4. How does billing even work? When should I expect to receive a legitimate bill from a hospital? I've heard it can take anywhere from weeks to months to years, so that answers nothing.

Tl;dr - 1. Used to have primary+secondary insurance. How does billing work when you have both? Will secondary cover deductible from primary? 2. Lost primary insurance due to health complications and being unable to work. Few claims went through primary and got denied. Will my secondary insurance pick up the bills? 3. When do I receive actual bills?

    Thanks.

Fender bender, and other driver is trying to convince not to go through insurance

    Posted: 30 Oct 2021 07:42 AM PDT

Hi all, was hoping for some guidance on behalf of a friend. He (31y.o./M) was in a small accident yesterday on the highway. We live in Ontario, Canada. My friend had to slam on his brakes to stop due to a sudden stop in front of him and when stopped the car behind his rear-ended him. There is physical damage to his bumper and he wants to get it replaced due to safety concerns in case of another, more serious accident. He exchanged info with the other driver and then called me for advice. I'm a paralegal but don't have any professional experience with auto insurance. We discussed his options and he feels his best option is to go to the collision reporting centre and then through insurance. He let the other driver know this and the other driver is now trying to convince him not to. He showed me the text message he recieved and it's written in a very "friendly" tone of 'you don't understand the actual costs to you is if you do that,' etc. I get the impression the other driver is thinking he's a young, dumb guy and is hoping to take advantage of that and possibly have him go against his own interests. His insurance is through the Cooperators and the only thing on his record is a speeding ticket for 30 over about 3-4 years ago.

I'm not certain, but I believe it would be worse for the other driver to go through insurance than my friend. The other driver would be at fault, correct, as he ran into my friend from behind? My friend would appreciate any insight to help him before he makes a final decision.

    Attacked by dog last night

    Posted: 30 Oct 2021 09:28 AM PDT

Hey everyone . So I live in a HOA in Florida and was attacked by a pitbull last night . I am 29 years old and needed a few stitches on the back of my leg as well as my arm . The person walking the dog has Asperger's and let go of the dogs leash . The owner of the dog told me he would pay for any expenses

I don't know if I should settle this with his insurance , or just on my own with him . I have no idea if I could get compensation . I'm thinking $1000 just for pain and suffering on top of medical bills and missing work

Hit a deer-- what now? [Auto, Progressive, WA state]

    Posted: 30 Oct 2021 12:49 PM PDT

Hi all, I think this belongs here maybe.. on google I found a post here about someone hitting a deer.

I've never hit anything ever, and I've never done an insurance claim, so I'm not entirely what I should be doing or asking or anything.

It happened at about 9am this morning, I immediately called them and put in a claim under comprehensive (engine steaming, fluid leaking, driver door bent in and can only open with significant force). They called a tow truck and said the tow is covered under comprehensive, etc (I do not have Progressive's roadside or Rental reimbursement). It's being towed to my house because they said most collision places are closed or busy today. But what do I do now? I have a $500 deductible, who do I pay that to? I bought my car in 2014 new as a 2015 Subaru Forester, he had 155k miles, I imagine he might be totaled? If he isn't totaled, is the integrity of my car still ok after repairs? I'm kind of panicking because I wasn't exactly prepared to buy a new car (I've always had terrible luck buying used and won't do it again), I just got 4 new tires, brakes, rotors, wheel bearings, etc, and was hoping I'd be set for a few more years. Now I feel really panicked. I need my car. Does a rental get covered under comprehensive or am I screwed because I don't have their rental coverage (I forgot to ask and the hold times are insane)? Is there anything I should be doing? help, ty. :(

p.s. deer was still alive but very injured, wildlife services (?) came out and shot her and took her. physically my 3 dogs & i are all fine at the moment. airbags didn't deploy. just pretty shaken up.

Disability Insurance - Did I purchase a terrible plan?

    Posted: 30 Oct 2021 10:22 AM PDT

    Hi Everyone.

Current employer offers an employer sponsored DI (disability insurance) that covers up to 60% of pay. However, my Financial Advisor (FA) sold me on a DI insurance to get that up to 90%ish.

It's a policy via Principal with a monthly disability benefit of $1,545 (gross income 98k annual). With an annual premium of $274.86.

From my understanding it seems all the riders that I have are:

    Benefit Update Rider

    Future Benefit Increase Rider

    Presumptive Disability Benefit Rider

    Regular Occupation Rider

Residual Disability and Recovery Benefit Rider

Anything that stands out or I am missing in this policy?

Rate went up due to stolen ID claim on a listed driver on comprehensive; is liability only an option while we fight this?

    Posted: 30 Oct 2021 02:50 PM PDT

    (I am in Texas)

So I carry my 75 year old mother on my insurance.

Suddenly my rates have doubled (I carry 3 cars and comprehensive). My rate quote claims my mother has 1 comprehensive claim and an at fault accident, worth 4 points. I know she hasn't been in any accidents, especially one that would had a comprehensive claim. The claims are not on my policy, they came through the CLUE/LexisNexus service. So my own insurance company likely wouldn't be able to help with resolving it. They just jack up the rate based on what they receive.

Unfortunately, there is a high possibility that someone in the family who has had access to her info in the past has stolen her DL/SS# to fraudulently carry insurance. There have been cases of ID theft for several family members in the past and we have never been able to pinpoint who was doing it. In the past it was minors whose IDs were used for credit. Apparently now they've targeted MOM.

So I've ordered the LexisNexis report to try to figure out where these claims came from. But while we wait on this probably lengthy and not likely to be successful process to resolve this, there's the issue that now I have to pay $100/month more to pay for some asshole freeloading on my mother's name.

So my question for you guys, other than maybe general advice... Since the claims under her name are Comprehensive, and I only carry liability on the car she drives (she drives maybe 100 miles a month), how much would comprehensive claims affect her liability rate alone? Would it save money to take her off my insurance (where I have comprehensive) and have her on her own policy with liability only?

EDIT: Including all I know about this fraudulent claim in the image below. Now for anyone wanting to say "maybe your mother had an accident and didn't tell you" you can go away. I know 100% she did not make this claim, nor was she involved in any accidents she didn't tell me about. Nor did it come from a "previous" policy as she was on my insurance at the time, and had been for a while. On top of that note that there is a KNOWN identity thief in the extended family (connected to my sister) we just haven't been able to pinpoint who it is.

Can I claim expenses for getting my car repaired (not at fault)?

    Posted: 30 Oct 2021 09:10 AM PDT

My car was hit in my company's parking lot by one of our vendors. I went through my insurance and my vehicle is getting repaired. The problem is, I live in a remote area and had to travel to the auto body shop, then get a rental (which is covered by insurance). Can I go after the company that hit my car for all the expenses of my travel? I also had to take a day off without pay. I asked my insurance company they told me I have to get their policy number - seemed odd that I have to do the leg work. Any advice, recommendations are appreciated.

    Edit: I'm in Canada.

    Rear ended

    Posted: 30 Oct 2021 08:33 AM PDT

So I was rear ended a couple months ago (August) and the at fault persons insurance accepted liability. My car was drivable after the accident and was an estimated 2k in damage.. I have 10 k worth of bills from just the chiro, er visit , radiology from X-rays and the ambulance bills.. I am now seeing a pt as the chiro helped but I am still experiencing pain. The insurance company offered me a settlement of 10k, 8 for medical and 2 for pain and suffering. The pt has prescribed 6 weeks of pt first and then he wants to do a reevaluation after the 6 weeks.. the policy limits are 30k and if I get an attorney most want 33 percent.. should I take this to court? I know I'm not done with treatment technically but from what I can gather about the situation it may be hard to get them to pay for an mri as they've already made cuts to my medical bills for things they feel are unreasonable.. I've literally only been to er and a chiro for the most part and I'm already at 10k in bills .. an mri probably is 2-4K and if something is found that needs treatment that's a future expense too.. not sure how I should proceed

Is there a difference between getting car rental insurance from desk vs online companies like sure or insuremyrentalcar?

    Posted: 30 Oct 2021 08:20 AM PDT

I'm planning ln getting a rental next week through my insurance company until my vehicle is repaired, and while I have full coverage that extends to my rental it doesn't cover loss of use in any way.

Hertz's insurance covers it which I was planning to get, but it's about $30/day. Yesterday I found some online websites that also provide rental insurance (cdw) for less than $10/day and they seem to cover everything like Hertz's.

Is there any difference between the two options I have?

    Minor accident question

    Posted: 30 Oct 2021 07:47 AM PDT

Hello everyone, I was recently in a minor accident. I was stopped for a light and a lady rear ended me at a very slow speed, maybe 5mph. We checked for damage and it was minor. Basically just minor gouges where her license plate screws hit the bumper. I wouldn't have cared on my truck, but this is a newer car I'm still making payments on. In this case it's a 2019 MX5 RF.

I made a claim with her insurance because my insurance wanted me to pay the $500 deductible. I went and had an estimate by a local body shop and they came back with a surprisingly low estimate of about $800. Basically they plan to repair the existing bumper even though the plastic looks a bit damaged. I had expected a bumper replacement due to the plastic damage.

    My questions are as follows.

    1) if the damage is minor like this would you be ok with a repair rather than replacement?

    2) Should I be concerned about diminished value? If so any suggestions on showing evidence of diminished value? There are not many mx5s that I've found for sale with an accident listed.

    3) Is there a way to get the repair and or the money without this being marked as an accident on a carfax? And would that even be ethical based in it being such a minor accident?

If I can figure out how to upload a picture of the damage I will do so.

    Thank you,
