Put on a PIP while ramping Sales and Selling

Put on a PIP while ramping Sales and Selling

Put on a PIP while ramping

    Posted: 02 Sep 2021 08:22 AM PDT

    Just needed to vent.

4 months in to an MM role at a young (barely series A after a decade) and put on a plan.

When hired it was to "build our outbound process, be creative and figure out what works"

2 weeks later I'm Being harped on activity even though I have the highest response rates from targeted strategic accounts and my pipeline building is going incredible.

Mind you, they consider MM 750-5000 employees.

We had security reviews that we sat on for weeks that a customer needed to purchase.

Now I have 30 days to close 30k (luckily I have more than that sitting in contracting and waiting for shit on our end)

But I'm not even out of my ramp period and our sales leadership is super inexperienced so it's just regurgitated "sales is a numbers game" and 2 yard line analogy's

    Fuck shitty sales leaders

    Paying new hires bonus??

    Posted: 02 Sep 2021 06:53 AM PDT

Someone on my sales team mentioned that at the end of the first quarter, new hires receive payout of the full bonus amount even if they don't hit their quota.

I'm curious if this is common practice for newbies to get a full payout in sales?

This would be enterprise sales. It baffles my mind that companies would do this but hey more money for all the new ones…

    Qualify out the pretenders

    Posted: 02 Sep 2021 11:51 AM PDT

just a PSA that will help increase your close percentage. lose the happy ears and the commission breath and start qualifying deals out of your pipeline. we're in the stretch run, it's crunch time and nothings going to fuck your accelerators more than chasing wood.

qualify often, qualify early and cut the losers.

I cut one ive been chasing since May this morning. they would have taken more meetings and done more demos, and i finally had an in with a direct report to the CFO. today's call made it clear there's just no on-ramp this year (territory issues, the actual problem we'd be solving would be handled in their Germany office) so they are gone and forgotten.

    Prospecting- Voicemails

    Posted: 02 Sep 2021 11:20 AM PDT

Looking for some feedback. Does anyone even find it necessary to leave voicemails? I don't think through 8 months I've received a call back from a prospect off a voicemail.

I've been told that it's another time they hear the company name, but when I don't leave voicemails I get 1-2 call backs a week. (roughly 250 dials)

It almost seems like a waste time.

Company wants to expand my role.....I am not sure how to respond

    Posted: 02 Sep 2021 11:12 AM PDT

I worked for company "A" selling to half the country and it was all fine till 2 years ago when we got purchased by company "B". Nothing really changed my role working for company "A" but a coworker quit and instead of half the country I cover the whole country and have been for the past year. Now in my role I have been working from home and doing just fine financially and when the coworker quit I got his commissions but my base did not change. I am pretty much left alone to sell and as long as things keep flowing it is just quiet and working from home.

Company "B" is now making some changes and about to offer a new product and of course they want someone to sell it. For this product if they wanted a "turn key" individual to sell it well I am highly qualified and already work for them but for company "B" and I am sure you can see where this is going. Company "B" is thinking about making me split my time with company "A" but we would be seeing drastic changes on my side. The would want me to go into an office, run a new CRM, and prospect large clients though a new pipeline starting up from scratch.

Should I be asking for a large raise in base? I am thinking in the realm of $20k raise from my $50k base as I will be in an office and working something from the ground up as well as attempting to keep my work load in company "A" as well. Even with that raise I would still be a pretty chap option for company "B".

    Quota concerns

    Posted: 02 Sep 2021 10:25 AM PDT

I'm the first bdr this company has ever had. My quota is one meeting per day.

Is this doable with larger companies? We're only targeting $100m/rev per year.

Is it possible to get one meeting per day with companies this size?

I was doing 10 meetings per week at my last job. This was small business though. Easy to cold call and get a yes.

I’m new to cyber security sales, can I make money?

    Posted: 02 Sep 2021 09:39 AM PDT

I had just a few months of sales experience. I just got a remote role selling a cyber security service (basically doing ethical hacking for companies to see that they're secure). However it is a small company, but in the interview they said there has been demand.

I think it's interesting and can't see why most companies wouldn't want this service. I'm also a female, so maybe the tech guys will want to talk to me lol.

Only thing is it's a small and newer company so I wonder if that's good or bad.

    Events for Government Employees

    Posted: 02 Sep 2021 09:19 AM PDT

Working to both acquire and/or retain government contracts at both state and federal level. We used to provide on-site training or events local to them that were catered. This was allowed.

We are doing virtual events this year and due to rules around government employees we can't buy them lunch or send them food.

What have you seen done to build good will with government organizations/individuals.

Not looking to bribe anyone, just looking to give them an positive experience along side our virtual events.

what’s the best way to get started with sales?

    Posted: 02 Sep 2021 09:14 AM PDT

i'm not particularly into the culture of business ,markets or economy. but i understand this is the only way to establish self sovereignty in this world. i started solar d2d, but not succeeding. i figure if i have a product or a service i truly believe in and can bring enthusiasm day in and day out on cold approaches/ calls…sales will be a lot easier. only problem is, i don't create goods and i don't have services to offer. what can i do to find either from either a company or just someone else who can let me represent their business?

26yo truly just feeling lost when it comes to self sufficiency. i want to escape the chains of employment but i've yet to realize what it is of value i can provide the world independent of provisional "masters" if you will.

the things i am passionate about are all centered around arts and humanities, and it's a very isolated road towards artistic freedom coupled with sustainability.

just looking for any and all advice or input. thank you all.

    Closing deals in other countries

    Posted: 02 Sep 2021 11:51 AM PDT

I'm a new business account executive at my company. We work with companies in our US-based territories only. Occasionally when our prospects put an international address in their contract, the deal gets ripped from us and given to another sales rep in that country (crazy I know).

Does this happen at your companies? Does address ever affect your sales process? What are the rules at your company?

What can you make doing cold call phone sales?

    Posted: 02 Sep 2021 10:38 AM PDT

I have a friend looking to enter the sales world and right now they're considering a job doing called call phone sales. I've had my own personal experiences with this subset of the sales world but I'm curious to hear what other people's experiences have been. Specifically, how much money can you reasonably expect to earn your first two years and how much would you expect to earn in 10 to 15 years in if you were to make a career out of it?

    Old School

    Posted: 02 Sep 2021 10:17 AM PDT

Currently in my first b2b role out of college, sold cars to pay tuition and fell in love with sales

My current role consists of selling software(Saas) and copiers (8.5k avg sale).

Traditionally, this role entails prospecting door to door, business to business.

Does anyone else prospect door to door? If so, how the fck do you do it during covid? What are the other avenues I should look into excluding LinkedIn, phone calls and email marketing for generating new business?

    Thank you for your time!!

Debating diving in head first with a start up - leaving security of my current role

    Posted: 02 Sep 2021 06:27 AM PDT

Trying to hear perspectives people have on this kind of situation.

I'm currently in pharma sales and previously was in hospitality sales. Both with large companies/benefits. Did decent, some awards over 5 years (combined), numbers stayed consistent, etc.

I've been ready to leave pharma for a while for a lot of reasons, but have passed on a number of opportunities mostly because they didn't match up to the benefits I had in my current role.

The opportunity is no different in that I'd lose just about every benefit I currently have (company car, 401k, health insurance, etc.), however the product is extremely interesting/exciting to me and it's in a good industry (immersive learning/AR/VR). They're also offering company equity, which I know is likely to be meaningless with early stage startups but still is the first time I've been offered something like this.

They're beating my current base by about 15%, commission is uncapped and is a gross % of every closed deal. They have a number of impressive clients (think Ford, GE, etc.) so that combined with the assumption that the CEO isn't totally full of shit it seems like there's a lot of opportunity. I know everyone hates on pharma in this sub and I honestly share most of the sentiments - but I do feel confident in my ability to sell this product.

Just looking for any insight/thoughts internet strangers might have! TIA

Give me a reason why I shouldn't do sales

    Posted: 02 Sep 2021 09:47 AM PDT

I'm a couple of years into working in public accounting (where I started my career) and am ready to make the move out of it to my next career step. Throughout my time since college I've considered getting into wealth management, real estate, corporate finance, etc etc. Just can't really find something that reeaally intrigues me.

Until I found softwares sales and started researching it for a couple of months... at this point I'm pretty sold on getting into SaaS sales with a company that provides accounting software (something that I can leverage my accounting knowledge to sell well), but some might consider this change to sales from what I currently do silly. Some might even consider it selling myself short.

The only things that make me hesitate are 1. Less job stability and 2. Difficulty getting into the right place

With the traditional accounting route, you usually kind of know what you're getting into with a job. $65k salary offer for a senior accountant role after 2 years of public accounting experience? No thanks. $80k offer to work under the CFO? Okay, I can get with that.

But with sales, I've learned that it's a game changer selling a product that, well, you'll actually be able to sell. Or with a team that will actually have your interest in mind and not just throw you against the wall to see how you do, and fire you if you don't produce after 3 months.

Anyway, I think I could do really well selling a legit accounting software. I understand the functions of accounting very well, and I think I understand and can read people/deal with them very well.

Knowing I could take quite a different, more guaranteed and traditional route with my accounting background (could get CPA as well), would anyone steer me away from SaaS sales? I've found a lot of reasons why I think I should get into it. Any reasons why I shouldn't?

    Bad Rep for Campaign

    Posted: 02 Sep 2021 07:40 AM PDT

Hi all, first time posting here and very new to sales in general.

I'm part of a campaign that does street-sales and recently we've gotten a bad rep due to someone who was unsavoury in their approach, and this has affected our campaign image as well.

The experience was uploaded to social media. How would this affect our sales going forward, and is there any advice for how we can work around it? Or just continue since the chances of people having seen it out of the entire population is <10%?

Lead qualification - Property - Advice needed.

    Posted: 02 Sep 2021 07:30 AM PDT

    Hello everyone,

I want some advice on how to get better at my job. I am in a business development role, this means I call old leads (years old) and try to reengage, and then, qualify them so they can have a meeting with a senior manager in order for them to try and make a sale. If this is successful I get commission on top of my basic (this is in the UK).

The leads I have often don't remember even enquiring (they did, there's no shady business here, its one of the oldest property companies in the country and they genuinely build high spec property) and this makes it almost a cold call. How can I get better, from the into to the close when it comes to this job? Tips, books, videos, everything and anything is welcome!

Here is how it usually goes:

Call - Intro (my name and company name) - reason for call, we are about to launch x and it costs x, we wanted to see if you're still interested (this is the gist, the intro is very to the point) - If they say yes I then have to convince them to arrange a second call and not only send an email (emails in this business are almost always dead ends, my manager with over 7 million in sales this year has said many times) - If they say no, I then have to try and convince them to say yes by addressing objections and then again, try to get a call going. All of this seems easy on paper, but in the real world, isn't. I did 500k in sales one month, then 330k dropped leaving 170k, and I'd like to do well in this job.

    Thank you all in advance.

If given the option, would you choose to go into tele sales?

Looking to get into sales and then sales management.

    Posted: 01 Sep 2021 08:58 PM PDT

Looking to get into sales then sales management.

Just to give a little background. Currently a mid level manager in logistics (director) but I just am not happy with the role. Looking to get into sales from the suggestions of close friends who are BDM, AE, AM, etc.

Current qualifications are as follows: 8 years management experience, project management, MBA. Worked in various industries such as manufacturing, government, and military (current army officer (captain) in the reserves).

So what are your tips for breaking into sales and then sales management? I'm a quick learner and as a director in my current role, I'm bombarded by different sales people trying to sell me a product (some are successful).

I'd love your tips and experience!

SaaS sales. What skills make you an “enterprise” AE?

    Posted: 01 Sep 2021 07:39 PM PDT

Working to move up market in current company and potentially externally for that promotion.

I'm not in "Enterprise" today, but just below it. How would you phrase this in interviews to show you're ready for Enterprise?

Also, what key skills differentiate a successful Enterprise AE over a mid-market AE?
