Any review notes on this Workpaper?

    Posted: 07 Sep 2021 08:52 AM PDT

I’m seeing a lot of depressing posts on here today, so let’s have some fun: What is the worst bathroom wrecking experience you’ve experienced at a client site or work in general?

Post-holiday blues are bad today, hoping this question gets as many fun answers as I'm anticipating.

Does EY NYC office have a ping pong table?

I got an offer from EY and I will be accepting soon, but I'm wondering if they have any ping pong tables? I'm pretty good at it

    CPA or MBA?

    Posted: 07 Sep 2021 07:20 PM PDT

I recently got a job working as an entry level accountant at a bank. Mainly doing GL reconciliations. Honestly plan to try and jump to the finance side instead of staying in accounting. Is a CPA still worth it if I'm not working in PA? Or would my time be better spent working toward finishing an MBA?

New hire and WFH during busy season :/

    Posted: 07 Sep 2021 06:37 AM PDT

Im a new hire at a mid size firm, working fully virtual, started about a month ago at the start of tax busy season. This is so depressing. I sit at my computer all day for long hours, haven't met anyone in my firm in person, don't talk to the other new hires since Im the only associate on both engagements Im on. I'm given work that I've never seen before with no formal training and I feel like I'm just expected to know everything. And I have the pressure of needing to continue studying for the CPA but Im so tired from work and honestly feel like Im already burning out. How are other people handling starting from home because Im struggling already.

    I hate Acronyms

    Posted: 07 Sep 2021 09:56 AM PDT

Once upon a time ago, I learned that the proper use of shortened references, including acronyms, begins with the complete spelling of the word(s) followed by the shorthand within "( )" and the continued use of the shorthand within the document.

I have always hated acronyms. Some work because they are used in multiple fields and social groups, however, the niche groups that are only used by Audit or heaven forbid, firm exclusive (or worse, firm & practice exclusive) are too much

I swear I get corporate emails that use Acronyms with zero inclusion for what they stand for. As if it was briefly mentioned 12 weeks ago in an initial email and then acronym'd there after. I have no idea what they are referencing. Saying how they are excited to launch GTAAAEE1.0 and hope I (we) are excited too.

I'm not excited. I'm terrified, because I have no idea what that vague assortment of letters is and am horrified that it may be important that I know it, but should I really divert my time away from my engagement to do email history searches to track down this thing?

I feel like we can normally all type fairly quickly, so using an acronym in a broad email
    1. isn't saving you any amount of actual time

    1. isn't relevant to many

    2. I think a lot of people get used to the acronym but don't actually know what the letter represent (though they know how to do/perform/utilize it just fine)

This is especially difficult when I move positions in my firm from old clients to new clients where things are drastically different. Even though I'm no longer an associate, I've never used, nor seen 90% of the stuff, or if I have, it was once in a training 11 months ago which had no relevance to my work.

    Exit ops for tax

    Posted: 07 Sep 2021 04:23 PM PDT

I'm coming up on my third year in b4 tax and I've been casually looking for jobs for about a year now. The understaffing and hours are driving me insane and I really want to leave before the end of the year. However, I'm finding that as a tax person my options are pretty limited and I'm not really seeing any jobs that sound interesting to me. I feel like I'm looking in the wrong places since it's been almost a year and I've gotten nowhere. It feels like my only option is to go to a smaller CPA firm and hope that the hours aren't as crazy. Is anyone else in this situation as well?

Advanced Access, Excel, and SQL Courses?

    Posted: 07 Sep 2021 03:34 PM PDT

I'm looking for classes, videos, or books that can help advance my skills in Access and Excel. I currently manage my company's databases for our financial statements and I'm looking to become more knowledgeable and efficient in my assigned areas.

Does anyone have any recommendations for:

Database Management, Advanced Excel, SQL Programming

    Thanks!

    Taking FAR on Friday

    Posted: 07 Sep 2021 09:57 PM PDT

I am taking my first section (FAR) this Friday. I am super nervous and terrified of bombing it. I've went through Becker from start to finish but I'm still worried of making below a 50. Even if I fail it, I at least know what to expect the next time around. I don't know if that's the right attitude to have or not. But I'm just hoping for the best and accept the results either way.

HELP: Language and knowledge barrier between my senior and I

    Posted: 07 Sep 2021 05:50 PM PDT

Me (as a new staff) not having any idea what is going on paired with the fact that I can barely understand my in charge's English is a not a pleasant combo.

Any advice? I don't want to be rude, but I legit have no idea what she is saying to me, and she keeps having to repeat herself and is getting annoyed.
