(I'm a newbie over here… not an SDR but trying to support sales as an SME in a company. I have loved what I've learned browsing here so far, so thank you all so much 🙏) [link] [comments] |

What option do I have in this situation? Posted: 29 Aug 2021 08:59 AM PDT I recently completed my MBA and joined by first corporate job 2.5 months back. The placements were badly affected due to COVID and out of fear I sat and got selected for a role I absolutely hate now. I Working as an account manager in corporate banking, with 90% of the role being sales, I am not good in that and having never studied any financial or banking subject makes it worse. I definately don't want to make a career in this industry. The work culture is also super toxic, there is lot of micromanagement and we get yelled at many times in a day. My mental health is getting severely affected, I have to drag myself out of bed every morning and I literally shed tears while I get ready for work, I also break down few times in a day at work. To add to that, there is no WFH and even Saturdays are working. I was handling my own insta and YouTube page before the work, which I loved doing and it was growing steadily but now due to exhaustion(I work 9 hours plus 1 hour travel) and mental stress I can't put my mind to that anymore too and haven't uploaded anything in a while. Further the mental stress is also not helping me to prep and search for another jobs Everyday I just feel like quitting, but I don't know how would a gap look on the resume considering it can take 3-4 months or more to find a job. I am 24,F and based in India. [link] [comments] |

Being assertive vs being “Salesy” Posted: 28 Aug 2021 08:26 PM PDT Hey guys, I wanted to get other salespeople's opinions on the phenomenon of being "salesy." I work retail sales and sell furniture and mattresses. A couple days ago I was with a guest who was looking at a bedstead. While we were writing up the bedstead order, she tells me that she'll need a new mattress eventually and I suggest that we look at some mattresses while she's at the store. She tells me that she likes a firmer mattress, so I put her on a firm luxury mattress, start to qualify, and then highlight features and benefits of the mattress that are relevant to her needs. She hits me with a price objection, and I wound up closing her on a mattress that was a step down from what I was initially showing her. Still, a very respectable sale. My assistant manager happened to be in the vicinity when I was with the guest, so after the guest left I asked him what he thought of my customer interaction. It's not often I have a superior within earshot for an entire mattress pitch. To my surprise, he told me that he thought I "came off as a little salesy." I'm honestly not sure what to make of that criticism. I think it's fair to say that most salespeople, myself included, are regular, conscientious people who want our customers and clients to be happy with the solutions our products and services offer them. Having said that, our job is to get people to buy, and that oftentimes doesn't happen without a overcoming a few objections and powering through a few no's. I speak with enthusiasm, always explain why my products will meet my customers' needs even if they're on the expensive side, and I don't let people brush me off because I'd never sell anything if I buzzed off every time someone hit me with "just looking." To me that's not being "salesy," that's just doing my job. Where do you guys draw the line between being salesy vs just being a good, assertive salesperson? [link] [comments] |
I'm a retailer looking to sell products through other retailers (is it called consignment?) Posted: 29 Aug 2021 06:58 AM PDT Hello! I hope I'm in the right place to ask a question about selling retail products through other retailers. Let me start by saying I'm not a salesperson. I don't mind going out and talking to people and am knowledgeable about my products, but I don't have a background in sales. A little background on the business: I have an online business selling CBD products. We did a lot of research and work to pick really good, high quality products and they're a little pricey. They are not self-branded (but I'd LOVE to get into that). They're known vendors in the market. We got started in May of 2020. I was diligent about social posting and paid for a little online advertising. No social advertising. Most of the social platforms don't allow advertising of CBD products. We had a few newsletter signups and I stayed on top of that too. We sold a few topical products here and there mostly to family and friends. Eventually even that died out and I started slacking off on posting, advertising and newsletters. Early this year we stepped back and looked at the few sales we had and realized we completely sold out of topical and bath products and hadn't sold a single unit of anything consumable. We decided to drop consumables and go strictly with topicals. Then a funny thing happened: The hairdresser my family uses knows about the business and asked if she could have a few products to sell to her various customers. I got some stuff in and she started selling a few things here and there. We're still talking about 4-5 units in the past month, but more consistently that I've ever sold online. I'd really like to explore this and maybe add a few bath products and find one more salon to try this out with. This first salon is someone I know and trust and right now she has my products in her store and passes me money when she sells. I run this through my sales and accounting software, so everything is 100% on the up-and-up. I want to be running a real business here, not some "cash under the table" thing. Here come the questions:
I'm wide open to suggestions and advice. I think this avenue is worth exploring. I was literally just about to close the whole thing down and all of a sudden she started selling a few units. Thanks in advance for reading and your thoughts and ideas! I'm happy to expand on anything or answer questions. [link] [comments] |
Which cold call approach would you prefer? Posted: 29 Aug 2021 10:40 AM PDT My approach is to tell prospects the issues people in similar roles face and ask what they're doing to avoid those issues — usually leads to them opening up and a chill conversation that doesn't involve me pitching in an obvious way. I watched a livestream Josh Braun recently had where he cold called sales execs and invited them to an exclusive event he was hosting after qualifying them, and threw in a free case of craft beer they could drink during the event. That approach netted him a few "meetings", so I'm wondering if it might be worth inviting people to relevant webinars my company frequently hosts and offering to launch a free question for them (work in market research) vs me calling to book a demo. Any thoughts? [link] [comments] |

Advice on salary for commercial cleaning sales position. Posted: 28 Aug 2021 08:21 PM PDT I live in British Columbia where min wage is currently $15.20 cdn for reference. My employer is offering me a sales position with a base salary of $2500 a month + $500 for expenses (gas) and a commission structure of x2 the gross profit margin of the first month of any contracts sold. I would get a 10% sales revenue commission for one time services like window washing, carpet cleaning, wax work etc There is essentially zero marketing in place. Currently we have a $500 a month budget for google ads and some very minor SEO in place but that's it. There is essentially nothing in the sales funnel at this moment. They would also want to restrict / control my access to any posted RFP's / government contracts which are generally the larger sales because the GM wants to manage those himself. Any advice on the quality of this offer? I've been with the company for 3 years so I am familiar with the estimate process when giving quotes but there's really no set structure on how to price a job which leaves me somewhat anxious to even consider taking this offer. Need advice on salary + bonus or commissions expectations Posted: 29 Aug 2021 08:16 AM PDT There is an Account Management position available with 70k base + >25% bonus (annual) if quota is exceeded. Im wondering for the type of work should i be pushing for commissions instead of bonus? I feel like i would be missing out on a large piece of the pie. The position also has a certain amount of business development for new customers. [link] [comments] |

Two job offers. Edtech VS Fintech Posted: 28 Aug 2021 09:12 PM PDT I have a "happy problem". On Friday I got two job offers. One from one of the biggest startups in Latam in Edtech as a Senior Account Executive, and another one as a Sales Development Representative for the biggest Open Banking startup in Latam as well. I know, two very different roles, but surprisingly very similar salary (the AE is higher, but the SDR is a great offer). I know it sounds like a no brainer, but somehow the culture of the Fintech one seems much better than the Edtech one. The Edtech is now in hype mode, and everyone in the industry is talking about it, which might make it easier to sell. The Fintech one seems to have a better structure and collaboration. And so on, and so forth. What should I do? Somehow I don't want to base my decision only on Job Title and salary. Thank you for any insight! [link] [comments] |
Best certifications for an aspiring SDR? Posted: 28 Aug 2021 04:51 PM PDT I am a recent (2021) grad with a social science degree from a decent state school thats looking to transition to an SDR role within a tech company. I have some sales experience as an MT with Enterprise rent a car, but no tech sales experience. What are the best certifications for me to get to set myself apart on my resume? [link] [comments] |
Pre-sales, How do you sell a product before you build it? Posted: 28 Aug 2021 08:29 PM PDT How do you perform pre-sales? How do you sell a product before you even build it and for them to actually qualify as legitimate sales? [link] [comments] |
How hard is it to get a job as a Microsoft Azure SDR? Posted: 28 Aug 2021 07:04 PM PDT I have 1 year of SDR experience at another Fortune 500 cloud company, hit quota, probably top 1/3 of performers. Is it super competitive? Working on getting a referral from an alum from my school if that helps [link] [comments] |
Posted: 28 Aug 2021 04:38 PM PDT I'm in the interview process and I had a hard time getting a feel for the place during my interview. The hiring managers had to cut the interview off after 30 minutes so I didn't get a chance to ask as many questions as I'd like. Anyone have insight on working there? [link] [comments] |
How to modify the compensation structure for my employees Posted: 28 Aug 2021 12:49 PM PDT I am not a salesperson but I am a startup founder and I really enjoy the subreddit because it helps me understand the sales field and be a better boss to my employees. When I first started my company we brought in a salesperson after developing our MVP. Because it was only one salesperson and we were fairly small, the compensation structure I set up was a good base salary ($115k) and a fixed percentage of all sales (uncapped). Right now their total compensation ends up being about $170k. It is a very complicated product to sell and our current salesperson does a good job. Since creating the structure, sales have gone up significantly and I would also like to bring on more sales people. I created the current structure because it was simple at the time when we were smaller, very busy getting going, and would have been very difficult to define a more complicated structure. We didn't really know how the business model would function at the time. I don't think we can do a percentage of all revenue anymore. That means that the system will be more complicated. I also do not want to make my current salesperson feel like this is a demotion of any kind. It seems obvious to me that an uncapped percentage of revenue to one individual is not feasible going forward if we have multiple people doing sales. Thanks for any advice, compensation suggestions, references, or experiences shared. [link] [comments] |
Is going to local businesses to sell insurance a good idea? Posted: 28 Aug 2021 03:34 PM PDT First off, I appreciate this sub for helping me realize my last job was poopoo, the office still hasn't opened (check my last post if you want for background) and I've now found a company I'm much happier with. I'm now in final expense insurance sales. The company does the typical mail out a card and those that are sent back are sold to employees as leads model. This is all well and good (except for the 50% of people that don't even remember mailing back their information in the first place) but I got a suggestion for making sales without buying leads which would save me considerable money. The advice is to go buy a box of donuts or some other universally loved food and then take them to a business and give the sales spiel while everyone eats. I was told a mix of just walking in and setting appointments for presentations is the best approach. I'm wondering if anyone has done or is currently doing this and how effective it is. I'd also appreciate advice from anyone who has done it on how you went about it, what you'd do differently than what my dad suggested, and what the best places to approach are. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 28 Aug 2021 03:26 PM PDT Can anyone point me to good resources to research best practices for managing high value return buyers, strategies for maintaining cordial relationships without caving in to unreasonable requests, that kind of thing? Thanks [link] [comments] |
