    How dividend stocks work?

    Posted: 02 Aug 2021 04:59 AM PDT

I would like to invest on dividend stocks at some point in my life, so i would like to know (as simple as possible) how do they work. Let's say a company pays 0.72$ per share annually. Does that mean that if I have 100.000 shares I will get 72.000$ per year? Sorry for my ignorance, I'm totally new in this field.

When will Square (NYSE: $SQ) be added to the S&P 500?

    Posted: 02 Aug 2021 02:47 AM PDT

I have a special stock screen where I search for large caps outside the S&P 500. I look for companies with strong balance sheets, and are relatively undervalued based on DCF on either sales, earnings, or free cash flow. I need the company to pass two of those, so I have some sense of margin of safety. It has been a very successful screen for me over the past several years, and consistently yielded nice returns.

Square looks really attractive right now. It has a Z-Score over 9, positive free cash flow, earnings (finally), and growing sales. Their recent acquisitions should jack up their top line. My calculus has them worth over $400 right now.

Now that they are actually turning a profit, it will be a matter of time before they're added to the index.

How should a reverse split work if I don't own a multiple number of shares?

    Posted: 02 Aug 2021 06:57 AM PDT

GE did a 1:8 reverse split over the weekend. So if you owned 8 shares worth $13/share, you now own 1 share worth $104. (Actually, it's up a bit today, so it's worth $106.)

    But I owned 100 shares. Today, I own 12 shares. (12 * 8 = 96.)

What happens to my other 4 shares?

$ABML American Battery Technology, Mini DD.

    Posted: 02 Aug 2021 03:18 AM PDT

American Battery Metals Corporation $ABML, or soon they will change their name to American Battery Technology Company $ABTC is a materials company headquartered in Nevada, USA. Created in 2011, ABML core businesses are based on recycling, mining, and extraction of lithium-ion battery materials.

In my opinion $ABML is currently oversold as it is back to to the value prior to their Nasdaq application submission 1.56$ so it has much room to go up vertical in the next major catalyst which is expected to be on this month. I believe very soon the stock will go beyond 3$ which represents a 100% gain from here, and I also believe that everyone who made the DD on ABML is confident about that.

Some of the recent events related to the stock:

    • Hiring a new COO Andres Meza.

    • They submitted the last application on Friday 23/07 to get permit in order to start their pilot plant construction, once approved this month if everything was ok, this will send the stock above 2$ in my opinion, and once we start the construction as planned right after the last permit granted we may see +3$ share price.

    • Tesla was mentioned few times, and their plant is planned to be built next to Tesla's Giggafactory. This was posted recently on their website and they brought up Tesla name:

"as Fernley is located approximately 13 minutes from the new Tesla site, the Pilot Plant will further reinforce the community's commitment to sustainable solutions"

    Source

Summary from last media interview in proactive investors with the CEO Doug Cloe:

    • ABML is strongly hiring people and doug cole in the interview invited people to apply for jobs in ABML.

    • he mentioned that they will be asking the government for money to create jobs, and will have meeting with them this month (August) probably they will get some grants (they already had a grant from the government few months ago).

    • Everything is going as planned, and they are ready to start construction of the pilot plant as soon as they get the last required permit, hopefully on August.

    Some other information about $ABML:

    • ‌Pilot Plant is expected to generate 200M$ a year revenue.

    • ‌Commercial Plant is expected to generate 2B$ a year revenue.

    • ‌Pilot plant will pay for commercial plants.

    • ‌EX Tesla top dogs on the board, designer of Giggafactory and Battery Technology. Ryan Melsert.

    • ‌Recent analysts price target 3.50$.

    • ‌Debt free + 19$M in cash + grants from the US government are expected.

    • ‌Pilot plant to be operational by EOY Q4.

    • ‌Nasdaq uplisting, expected to be anytime this year.

Being conservative my price target for this stock is 5-10$ in 2022, with exponential growth on the following years.

TL;DR Starting the construction of pilot plant is one the major catalysts for $ABML and it is going to happen soon right after they get the last permit from the city of Fernley as per the management, which is expected to happen this month. PT for September, October +3$.

    Recent article related to $ABML:

Best Penny stocks to buy for August

Position: 5000 shares average price 1.77$ Subject to increase.

Moratorium on foreclosures and deferred mortgage payments ends - what next?

    Posted: 02 Aug 2021 12:02 AM PDT

    • A moratorium on single-family foreclosure and eviction ended July 31, 2021
    • A deadline to request mortgage forbearance is Sept. 30, 2021

Considering a still relatively high unemployment rate (compared to the pre-pandemic period), what do you expect the ending of these two programmes will have on the finance sector?

How many households will be negatively affected?

Do you expect this to have a wider ripple effect on the economy?

EDIT: so my quick maths says that ~6-7% of US households are facing eviction. That seems like a lot.

What is the bull/bear case for AMZN

    Posted: 02 Aug 2021 08:35 AM PDT

I have large position in AMZN. It has been #1 holding in my portfolio for last 4 years. We saw significant growth in 2020, share price jumped from $1800 to over $3000 within a year. Since then it has been consolidating side ways. Even after delivering great 2020 Q4 and 2021 Q1 results. Even in Q2 beside the revenue miss, their most profitable business AWS and Ad grew by good %. But we are now back to mid end of the consolidation.

I own MSFT, AAPL and GOOG. But my position is half of what AMZN is, because I just love this company and feel like they have lot of room for growth with disruptive products Self driving cars (zoox), Internet Satellite (Project Kuiper), store automation, increasing amazon warehouse margin by more automation and less workforce and obviously continuing the AWS success. They are operating at huge scale if the new CEO focuses on efficiency it would be game changing.

I am sort of looking for confirmation bias if I should still keep AMZN as my top holding, or slowly reduce the position. What are your bull and bear case for AMZN?

If I put half my money into the SPY and half my money into SSO (2x leveraged spy) - would this be the same as 1.5x leverage?

    Posted: 02 Aug 2021 07:50 AM PDT

I want some leverage with the SPY as I'm a young investor and want to take on risk, however not too much. The interest rates my broker uses for leverage are rather high but unfortunately I have to stick with said broker.

    Maintenance Fee on reverse split?

    Posted: 02 Aug 2021 11:42 AM PDT

I was charged $38 when GE did their reverse split the other day. Can someone explain why TD would charge a maintenance fee for that but not a regular split? It seems like either way it's the same dollar value in my account, but the number of shares simply changes. I even had an evenly divisible number of GE shares in my account so I didn't have any fractional after the reverse split.

Edit: @mods sorry if the flair is wrong. Took my best guess for something like this.

Vote on $1Tn Infrastructure Bill Could Come Within Days

    Posted: 01 Aug 2021 06:43 PM PDT

Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer said Sunday afternoon that the text of a $1 trillion bipartisan infrastructure bill would be released "imminently" and that a vote on the measure could take place "in a matter of days."

Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) speaks during a news conference about climate change outside the U.S. Capitol on July 28, 2021 in Washington, DC. Schumer said Sunday that a vote on the $1.2 billion infrastructure could come in a "matter of days."

Senators have been working over the weekend to finalize the text of the legislation, as they plan on passing it ahead of an August recess.

The $1 trillion plan that's key to President Joe Biden's agenda includes new spending on bridges, roads, broadband rail and water infrastructure.

On Sunday Morning, Sen. Susan Collins, a Maine Republican, said the bipartisan group of lawmakers negotiating the bill were "just about finished."

"We've been finishing up the spending provisions, the appropriations provisions and marrying them to the bill, and we really are just about finished," Collins told CNN.

Senate negotiators have been close to finalizing the infrastructure bill for days.

On Friday, Sen. Krysten Sinema, of Arizona, the lead Democratic negotiator on the bipartisan infrastructure bill, Sen. Rob Portman, of Ohio, the lead Republican negotiator, said they hoped to make the text of the bill public that day.

"When legislative text is finalized that reflects the product of our group, we will make it public together consistent with the bipartisan way we've worked for the last four months," the senators said in a joint statement.

Senate Democrats also plan on bringing forward a second, $3.5 trillion bill that is expected to include new spending on and environmental programs, health care and several other initiatives.

ELI5 General Electric reverse stock split.

    Posted: 02 Aug 2021 08:22 AM PDT

GE was worth around 11-12 dollars per share. Now is worth 101 per share.

I bought one share of GE to see what happens. Why didn't it become a fractional share, and why can I liquidate a stock I bought for 12 dollars for 100? Where did the 90 dollars come from?

Is it possible to trade shared in GE today?

    Posted: 02 Aug 2021 10:15 AM PDT

Just been watching GE in the background today to see what impact the reverse split has. The trading options in my brokerage (I'm in the UK using HL) are just gone on both mobile and desktop. You get a notification about the split on desktop but mobile app makes it look like its just a bug.

Should trading be possible today? Different trackers are indicating a fair amount of volume, 20m. Shares outstanding is showing the correct 1.1b. There is no mention in GE notification that any restrictions should be in place following the completion of the reverse split after hours on 30/07.

-Is it restricted because HL are work shy (you can't even see any company data on GE right now with them and they still haven't brought back bed-and -ISA) or

-is this a UK thing or

-is it essentially a global market thing?

I'm curious to see what the market impact is here. I have experienced a split in the past for RR. and saw no restriction on trading in between commencement and completion.

    GE Stock Split Help

    Posted: 02 Aug 2021 09:00 AM PDT

So, first I'm using Robinhood for this, so I want to know if this is a Robinhood bug or how it works on that platform. (Using Robinhood because it was easy to dip my toe into the stock market. I have grand total of $600 in the stock market through Robinhood.)

So I had 5 shares of GE before they split their stock. I understood that after the split, I'd have less shares than I currently do. That makes sense to me. I'm pretty sure that since the split causes the stock price to go up, I didn't have enough shares after the split to own a full share. I had thought that I would have had 0.xx shares? The way it states right now, all the money from those shares are no longer in my account and I have no shares at all of GE.

Did I think this wrong or is Robinhood either taking a while to process this or have an issue in their system?

Sell individual stocks to buy ETF or mutual fund

    Posted: 02 Aug 2021 06:31 AM PDT

    Hello,

Been on this sub for awhile just soaking in information. I bought some individual stock (AMAT @ $50.85 and ENPH @ 18.35)when I didn't have a lot to play with in the market (just one share of each company). I wish at that time I had more money to actually invest haha. Would it be beneficial to sell those shares and just invest in a similar ETF or mutual fund? Or just buy more? I do own shares of SOXQ which owns shares in AMAT for an example. I could use advice for green energy funds for an alternative to ENPH. Thanks!

    Morning Update for Monday, 08/02/21

    Posted: 02 Aug 2021 05:53 AM PDT

Good morning everyone, I hope you enjoyed your weekend.

This list is geared towards day trading. With the momentum watchlist especially, I am typically in and out very quickly, only occasionally longer than a couple minutes, usually faster scalps. Always have a plan when you enter a trade (for profit taking and for taking a loss), and use proper risk management for your account.

    Main Watchlist:

    Gapping UP:

    • TSLA: Looking to open right around the 697-700 resistance level (from daily chart). If it's able to break through resistance, I'll be watching for opportunities to go long. If it fails, it could provide shorting opportunities.
    • XPEV: Holding up over relevant SMA's. I'll be watching for more upwards movement, particularly if it can hold up over 42.
    • BIDU: Still below relevant SMA's. I'll be watching price action around the SMA(9) (~169.73). Could reject and provide shorting opportunities. If it can get up and hold over 170, there could be opportunities to go long.
    • MRNA: Looking to open near ATH. I'll watch for any further momentum, but it could provide shorting opportunities at some point in the near future; daily chart looking over-extended.
    • AFRM: Looking to open around SMA(20) at ~60.80. If it can hold up over that level, I'll be watching for opportunities to go long up towards resistance at 62. Could provide shorting opportunities if it fails to get back over 61.
    • FCX: Holding up over relevant SMA's. I'll be watching for opportunities to go long, particularly if it can hold up over the 38 level.
    • LEVI: Gapping up over relevant SMA's. I'll be watching for it to hold up over 28, could provide opportunities to go long.

    Gapping DOWN:

    • SQ: Could test a couple of SMA's at the ~234.30 level as support. Potential support level at 230. Could test 240 as resistance if it sees strength.
    • KDP: Seems to have failed to get over relevant SMA's in last week's trading. Could provide shorting opportunities if it continues to show weakness. Potential resistance level at 35.

    Market Outlook:

Stocks are looking to open higher this morning. Going into August, we have seen 6 straight months of gains in the market. Having said this, we could be in for some more volatility this month. UVXY, which tracks VIX short-term futures, has been picking up in volume on the daily chart, while volume has been drying up somewhat in other areas. This could be people hedging against an upcoming correction. Inflation rates are continuing to rise, which could cause the Fed to take action. With multiple indices hovering near ATH, I'm feeling cautious.

SPY is trading just over 440, and could test that level as resistance/support this morning. DIA is trading a bit over 350, and I'll be watching price action around the SMA(9) at ~349.29. QQQ is trading a bit over 366 and could test ATH levels this morning. EV stocks are seeing some strength in premarket. TSLA is trading right around the 700 resistance level and is worth watching closely. XPEV and LI also worth following closely after they reported strong numbers (NIO was a bit weaker for reference). Meme stocks are up a bit in premarket trading, worth following for potential breakouts, just remember to not force trades.

Remember to use proper risk management, by making sure you size appropriately for your account and have a plan for every trade you enter (both for taking profits and cutting losses). Happy trading everyone :)

The Bull Case for DKNG ahead of Earnings on August 6th (Original)

    Posted: 01 Aug 2021 09:26 PM PDT

    • Why? I see a lot of haters on DKNG and even more doubters.
    • Who? I'm a researcher in my (boring) day job and like to put my skills to the test in the Gambling and Gaming area
    • How? Investor presentations, earning transcripts, reading between the lines and the occasional message to those in the know
    • What? Deep dives with a focus on hidden facts and opportunities.
    • How much: 188 shares

    Rev/Net Loss figures of interest:

    • 2021 revenue - $1.15bn (predicted)
    • 2020 revenue - $614.5m
    • 2019 revenue - $323m
    • 2018 revenue - $226m
    • 2017 revenue - $191.8 (Pre-PASPA)

    • 2021 net loss - unknown
    • 2020 net loss - $850m ($1.2bn if include extra items)
    • 2019 net loss - $147m
    • 2018 net loss - $76m
    • 2017 net loss - $73m

In Q1 of 2021, DKNG posted $323m - a 175% YoY growth for Q1 and matched their entire 2021 revenue. So, they're on a good trajectory, but we can only believe in a $30/40bn valuation if they can get to at least $4bn revenue and become a profitable company in no more than five years.

But let's examine their claims from their most recent earnings] presentation and Investor Day Presentation and see if even $3bn is possible.

Statement 1: Our latest estimate of the US OSB is $22bn at 100% legalization

This is more than reasonable based on GDP and Population methods. Let's look at New Jersey which is scheduled to generate $800m in Gross Gaming Revenue (GGR) in 2021. Goldman Sachs predict an 11% CAGR, so just based off NJ, they will be at $2bn by 2031 and NJ is just 3% of the population (albeit with many NYers betting in NJ). As of now, just 27% of the population has access to legalized OSB.

Statement 2: iGaming is tracking to be at least a $40B market in the U.S. at 100% legalization

Again, they cite the example of NJ at $1bn in Igaming in 2020. Based on extrapolation, the market is worth at least $37bn. I am skeptical here on the growth relative to OSB.

Statement 3: Canadian OSB and iGaming TAM of $5B to $8B is a meaningful upside opportunity

Now this is somewhat of a stretch as we simply don't know Canada's appetite for OSB or iGaming. PwC estimates between $1.5B & $2.4B for OSB slightly lower than DKNG's $2-3B

    Statement 4:

    OSB

    $22B - Implied Total U.S. Market

65% of U.S. Population with Legalized OSB

    20-30% DraftKings' OSB Market Share

= $2.9-4.3B in Gross OSB Revenue

    iGaming

    $40B Implied Total U.S. Market

30% of U.S. Population with Legalized iGaming

    15-20% DraftKings' iGaming Market Share

    $1.8-2.4B in Gross iGaming Revenue

    Canada

    $5B Implied Total Canadian Market

    64% of Canada Population with

    Legalized OSB and iGaming 10-20%

    DraftKings' Canada Market Share

$300mm-600mm in Gross OSB and iGaming Revenue

= $5-7.3B in Gross Gaming Revenue

So do we believe them? I think they're close enough to reasonable expectations although the legalization roadmap is a huge unknown. NY might not do it right; Florida may never legalize; California is long overdue and Texas might still be years away. OSB at 65% is a good target and I'll give them it. The lobbying behind blocking legalization has slowed down and it's only the tribes heavily objecting. I also believe in DKNG's market share which stands at 30%. I don't think it can increase due to the competition, but 20% is also too low considering all the great work (and spending) and the UX of their incredible website. $3.5bn OSB GGR just works.

Regarding their iGaming, they have gone for lower estimates, but due to the enormous competition, I am chopping this to just $1bn. Their market share is just 19% now and I haven't seen anything to suggest this will increase.

And for Canada, I will take a half-way split PwC and DKNG (for sports) as it is such an unknown

So we have a total DKNG estimated GGR of $4.8B, but by when? It all depends on the legalization of both OSB and iGaming. They don't say but this TAM figure is likely to be for 2026 as on page 30 they discuss a 5 year plan. 1.15 → 4.8 ^ 5 years = CAGR of 33.9% which compares nicely with their CAGR from 2017 to 2021 of 42.7%.

In fact, on page 39, DKNG are aiming for $3bn Gross Profit and $1.7bn Adjusted EBITDA.

Would a 2026 $4.8bn Revenue/$1.7bn Adjusted EBITDA/$1bn Net Income be worthy of a $100 stock price i.e. a valuation of $40bn? 8.33 revenue multiple and 40x EBITDA multiple doesn't sound too bad for a company that keeps its promises?

So the big question is whether they can continue to grow > 30% CAGR without the incredible spending on costs (mostly marketing).

I guess I should cover that in part II if folks are interested (hint: they can). I would also add a description of all their competitors from what I can find: 888sport, bet365, BetRivers Sportsbook, Betfred, BetMGM, Barstool Sportsbook, BetAmerica, Caesars, DraftKings Daily Fantasy, DraftKings Sportsbook, Elite Sportsbook, FanDuel Sportsbook, FOX Bet, Golden Nugget, Hard Rock Sportsboo, Oregon Lottery Scoreboard, PointsBet, Resorts Sportsbook, SportsBetting.com, Unibet, William Hill

    What do y'all think?

A friend of mine bought into an option trading service, and I just have a question about it ROI claims from the guy who runs the service.

    Posted: 02 Aug 2021 01:26 PM PDT

FYI, I'm not talking about the user experience, only seeing can anyone tell me if these numbers look.

I realize that people that follow the service cannot get these returns, regardless of legitimacy, because of price fluctuation. This is not a question about that. I am just wondering about his profit margins.

I did very, very quick math, not looking at his decimals, and over a 6 week period, it shows to have had about a 44% return, on average. Is this doable for someone very talented, on a good 6 week run?

I feel weird asking, because if you look at his private Twitter (i have), 100% of these buys/sells are there and they are exactly what it says in this sheet, at the time of purchase, so unless I am just missing something in my naivety, at the very least, these should be his real numbers, correct? It does not seem like there could be any way to lie about this. Obviously we can't know if he made other trades that he did not post, but this is mostly just confirming that these numbers are legit.

I only ask because an average of 44% over 6 weeks seems insanely high, but I also do not really know what a good 6 weeks period looks like for someone very, very smart.

This post is not to ask about why you shouldn't use a trading service, I am well aware of all of that, I am just asking because these numbers are wild, and also, unless i'm missing something, 100% accurate/verifiable.

Here are the last 6 weeks numbers from the site. https://imgur.com/a/OOKWKMh

    Can anyone chime in?

    Noobie question

    Posted: 02 Aug 2021 12:38 PM PDT

I'm new to stocks and I have a hard time understanding how is it possible to predict for example when a stock has a trend change coming? How can you determine that from a chart? Don't stocks mainly rely on real life events? Sorry if this question is extremely dumb.
