My ITT-Tech loans were forgiven Student Loans

    My ITT-Tech loans were forgiven

    Posted: 30 Aug 2021 01:40 PM PDT

    Hello All,

I have been paying off my student loans and with forbiddance starting paying off aggressively.I paid 10k and was about to pay an other 8k when I saw ITT- Tech loans were approved to be forgiven so I just put the money on the side just in case my loans got forgiven.

    I went to ITT-Tech 08/23/2011 - 07/23/2015 and graduated.I filed a Borrower Defense Case on 06/12/2019.

I then got an email on 08/10/2021 that my the Department of Education (Department) has approved my claim for forgiveness of my federal student loans under the borrower defense to repayment rules, 34 C.F.R. §685.206(c) and §685.222

I kept checking my student loan provider but it still showed I owed student loans. So today I checked Nelnet again and it showed all 0's.I called Nelnet and asked them about my loans they said my Borrower Defense claim was approved and all my loans were forgiven on 08/26/2021.

I hope this information helps someone.

-Edit I forgot to mention my Borrower Defense Claim still shows in review even though Nelnet and the email said it was approved

    Parent Spent My Loan Refunds?

    Posted: 30 Aug 2021 12:36 PM PDT

I've been a college student since 2016. I have been enrolled at my current university since Fall 2018. I can see my refunds from my loans; nearly $20,000 in student loan refunds since 2018 alone.

My parent has their bank account set up to receive all of these refunds. They spent it. It never went back to pay the loans down. I never realized until now.

They are "co-signed" on these loans. What would you do? Steep student loan debt for school that doesn't make sense.

if i took a class every year for the rest of my life, would i have to pay back my student loans?

    Posted: 30 Aug 2021 09:37 PM PDT

you know how some loans you have to pay back six months after you graduate. well this guy was telling me about how one of his professors takes a class every year so he somehow avoids paying off his loans. just wondering the actual validity of this? or if i got my bachelor's would i immediately have to start paying that off six months after graduating regardless of whether or not i take more college classes after that?

30k in delinquent student loan debt

    Posted: 31 Aug 2021 12:04 AM PDT

Will spare y'all my story, but I have 30k in student loan debt that's 10 years old.

I refuse to pay it for a number of reasons, but now is the first time I might actually be willing/able to.

I'm holding out for federal forgiveness but that seems unlikely. I have no other debt, just one charged off 3k credit debt from 2011.

But my credit score is a wonderful 506! Do I have any options? Like, any? Other than just pay "pay it off dude?"

I honestly don't even know who I owe money to at this point, who to call, where to start...it all just seems so mysterious and ridiculous but I just need to be pointed in the right direction to get back on track.

For real, I'm seeking some proper guidance. My situation sucks but I'm not an idiot and I just want to crawl out of this mess with some dignity...and credit. Any insight is appreciated, please spare me your snark ☺️.

    Thanks, good peoples

    ITT Tech Loan Forgiveness Question

    Posted: 30 Aug 2021 08:00 PM PDT

I briefly checked and didn't see my specific question answered so here goes.

I believe I qualify to get my loans forgiven, except that I defaulted on them forever ago. Does anyone know if that matters for this? I tried searching the internet for answers but couldn't find an answer

    Student Loan Refi Situation

    Posted: 30 Aug 2021 07:33 PM PDT

Hello everyone, going to break down my situation and wanted to hear any input. I am 22 years old, graduated this May with about $90k in student loans debt (60k private/30k federal). I am planning on refinancing this week, my average interest rate is 6% (wow!) and I've shopped around and looking to bring that down to mid-2s.

Started working in July, making a healthy salary for right after college. A couple of questions:

    1) I have about $23k sitting in the bank right now and have a suspicion I am sitting on too much money that should be used to bring my debt balance down. How much should a reasonable person have at my point?

    2) There is one promotional offer from a refi provider that is offering a 6-month 0% APR, followed by a longer-term loan around 3.5%... curious if there are any drawbacks to selecting this option, then simply refinancing after the 6 months again? Not sure if that works

Thank you for reading this if you've made it this far, and I appreciate any help!

Question about NelNet and loans in general

    Posted: 30 Aug 2021 03:20 PM PDT

    Hey everyone!

I'm currently a 23F in a 1 year masters program. I finished my bachelors with zero debt so I took the leap and got into the MSW (Masters of Social Work).

So I have a few questions: what are your thoughts about Nelnet? And when I look it says that I have $50 that I owe in 2023. What's that about? Also, how do I go about paying interest. Do I just go pay what I can every month or is there another way that I pay interest?

    Any information helps. Thank you!

Disability discharge, can't get a BPQY from SSA anymore

    Posted: 30 Aug 2021 01:15 PM PDT

I got a BPQY letter from SSA earlier this year but it stated that it wasn't a permanent total disability so I didn't qualify for the student loan discharge, however I was overdue for my SSA review and it was recommended to get a new BPQY after the review was completed. So I tried calling today and was told that I couldn't get a BPQY any longer, he wouldn't even tell me if my disability was considered a permanent total disability! He said that I would need to contact the Department of Education regarding a discharge because they are being given the information about SSDI recipients. I don't understand why he couldn't tell me this information about myself!! In looking at the TPD website, it looks like this exchange of information between Dept of Ed and SSA doesn't begin until sometime in September. Letters will go out to those eligible for the disability discharge after the information is processed. So I guess I'm keeping my fingers crossed for now. Will mention it to my Dr's in case I end up needing to get the physician certification instead.

    ITT Tech borrowers defense question

    Posted: 30 Aug 2021 10:46 AM PDT

I've noticed articles mentioning that the dept of Education extended relief for students who attended the school since Mar 31 2008. My last quarter ended 3-8-08, will the 23 days affect my claim? I've filed my borrowers defense claim 5 years ago and it's in review status. I've seen some recent posts that people are getting approved and filed their claims later than I did.. has anyone been approved who attended the school in 2008 or prior?

Should i get my payments back since covid started?

    Posted: 30 Aug 2021 07:23 PM PDT

Hi-i have a loan in default that i have been making payments on for years-at first the deferments for covid didn't help people in default but they changed that. My servicer says that i have the option to return the payments that i paid in the protected period. As far as i know, only a small portion of those payments went toward the loan. If i recall those payments and then put it all towards the loan in one lump sum would that be better for me? I apologize if this has been answered-there are so many posts here to sort through.

Trying to start repayment on my student loans but they're asking for two people (names and phone number) as reference or something? Just for me to attempt a repayment plan. Is there any way around this?

    Posted: 30 Aug 2021 06:53 PM PDT

My student loans are with American Student Assistance and I tried a month ago (maybe two now) to get back on a payment plan because it's been.. a while. My debt is less than 6k and I wanted to try and start tackling it right away because my goal is to be debt free by the end of 2020. Well, they wanted to put me on some repayment plan where you have two people vouch for your or as reference.. I'm still not sure.

Long story short: I honestly don't have two people. I'm not close to family and I don't have a lot of close friends. I have one person and they are hesitant because they don't know what it entails. I guess I should have asked more about it but depression/anxiety really prevents me from thinking straight.

Has anyone dealt with this or know what they want two names/numbers for? Is there any way around it? Do they even really use the people? I don't know what to do. I want to start payments again and keep myself out of an issue once the payment pause lifts. And to build my credit back.

Any advice would be great. Sorry for the word vomit.

Forgot to update Residency when I moved

    Posted: 30 Aug 2021 12:29 PM PDT

So I moved to a new state in June, and I forgot to update it on FAFSA. For my college, I will have in state tuition after being a resident for 1 year. The semester has already started, but the deadline to pay for classes is still in a few days. Is it possible to put on my FAFSA that I moved in June? If not, could I just change the residency right now and have in state tuition for the next fall semester?

Basically title. Found a nice job the requires workstudy, had it offered to me but didn't accept because of scholarships. Would I still be eligible if I tried to contact the school now?

Tried to contact financial aid but obviously they're booked way up

    Nelnet (Potential Scam Call)

    Posted: 30 Aug 2021 03:14 PM PDT

    Hello All,

I wanted to bring to light a potential scam that might be happening and make people with student loans aware of this.

This afternoon I received a phone call that looked to be from Nelnet and they were asking me for my account number or last 4 digits of my SSN. First of all, who knows what their acct number is off the top of their head and second you never give SSN (even just a few digits) over the phone. I asked the lady what it was for and she said something with updating contact info and I told the lady I didn't feel comfortable giving out my info over the phone. She told me go online and update my info then hung up immediately. I went online and checked my account and there's no message or notification to update anything!

I'm not sure if others have gotten this type of call before, but please just hang up on these people. Idk what her end goal was, but I'm glad I didn't fall for it.

    $52K in Parent Plus Loans

    Posted: 30 Aug 2021 01:34 PM PDT

    Hi All -

I graduated college in Dec 2017 with ~$23K in federal subsidized/unsubsidized loans (in my name) and ~$59K in Parent Plus Loans. I have managed to pay off the $23K in federal loans (in my name), but still have $52K in Parent Plus Loans (my parents took out the loans in their name & I agreed to pay the loans back). I've paused payments for the most part due to the COVID forbearance & have managed to - so far - save up $26K. I was just wondering if anyone had any advice on what they would do if they were in my shoes. Should I continue to save cash until the forbearance period is up? Should I apply all my savings to the loans after the forbearance period to cut the balance down in half? I'm not really sure what the best approach is, but I am ready to be done with these things!

    175k student loans

    Posted: 30 Aug 2021 01:21 PM PDT

How much would you be hoping to make if you took out 175k in loans for grad school at an average of 6%.

Not naming profession, just want to see your guess
