My dad is on strike and we no longer have health insurance

    Posted: 29 Aug 2021 11:02 PM PDT

Hi all! My family and I are pretty stressed out right now… My dad has a good-paying job and a really great health insurance. But now, his workplace doesn't want to sign the contract with union, so they're on strike. We're cut off from health insurance starting tomorrow…

What can we do? He took his vacation days and is still getting paid, but we have no health insurance. I'm still working and get paid decently as well, so I'm not sure if we could qualify for any government health insurance?

I had a surgery planned for November as well. But this was planned ahead months ago, with our insurance giving us the green light months ago as well. I don't know where to navigate from here…

For reference, we have UnitedHealthcare Signature Value MCO in Oregon. Thanks for any insight and/or advice!

Thinking of becoming a claims adjuster.

    Posted: 29 Aug 2021 04:43 PM PDT

This was something I thought of a couple of years ago but after taking a collections job instead and being there 2+ years, the urge to start has come back and I want to move forward. I've been reading on what the requirements are and the daily responsibilities, and I feel like my experience in customer service and being able to handle different types of customers could come in handy. I know thats a small part of it, but I think its a good way to start. I have a degree in marketing with years of sales, customer service and collections experience.

My state of Connecticut requires me to pass a test to obtain a license. Im not very good with tests but I believe in myself to prepare for it. I have a few questions to ask...

How long is the process? On average, how long does it take to get from point A (taking a course, exam) to point b (finding a job).

How hard is it to land a job with a claims adjuster license but no insurance experience?

How often do you work from home or in an office compared to in the field?

Is it commission based? What is the average pay 1st year?

Again I'd like to stress that I have never worked in insursnce before, so im not sure if thats something that will hurt me along the way.

    Settlement Fair?

    Posted: 29 Aug 2021 11:23 PM PDT

    Hello Everyone,

I recently got into an accident (rear-ended) and am not at fault. At first I was under the impression my car was fixable and left it at the body shop. After not hearing back for 2 weeks, I called my insurance and then they told me it was totaled and provided me a settlement of $18,477.00 CDN for a 2017 Honda Civic EX 4DR Sedan (I live in Canada, Ontario). I think it's worth 15.5k - 16.5k.

Since this is my first accident, I am worried about a few things and wanted to understand if this settlement is considered fair. I'm worried about the following:

    • I would need the rental car at least 5 business days after the settlement is received (I was told this would take 3-5 business days). Is it reasonable for me to ask for 10 business days? It sucks they told me this 2 weeks after my accident… I brought it up to them but they said I had 20 days… but I never knew it was totalled until last Friday.
    • Does the settlement include my new car's registration fees, tax, and maintenance on my old car? etc? Is this fair to ask?
    • My finance with my old car was at 0.99% and now I can't find any dealership with that offer. Is it fair to raise this point as well?

Thank you everyone for the advice!

    Insurance/auto dealership repair problem

    Posted: 29 Aug 2021 07:58 PM PDT

    NC

I have geico, other party has progressive.

End of July, someone hit the back of my vehicle. No injuries/damage to any other property. Simply, he wasnt paying attention and slammed into my car when he was driving too fast. Caused my trunk latch to stop working as well as internal damages i could see with wires hanging out. His insurance company took the entire blame, no problem. His insurance company is who i filed the claim through so i didn't have to use my deductible.

I took my vehicle into the ford dealership on the 18th for repairs. They fixed the back of my car, however when I went in on the 28th, my car was having a hard time starting. I immediately went back inside and told the guy this. He came out to listen and said "cars don't like sitting for long periods of time, you probably just need to run the car for a little bit"

okay. started driving home, my power steering was so, so stiff to where turning my wheel was obnoxiously hard. As in I have to use both my hands to turn left and almost come to a complete stop to straighten out my car. I call them back, they ask me to come in for a test drive. Okay.

15min later as I arrive, the guy hops in and he starts driving. He noticeably has a hard time turning it. but he says I'm just used to driving the rental car(I have been driving this car for 3 years, i know this isn't normal. I take 2k mi trips across the country 2x a year and drive about 300mi to and from work every week.) so, we look at my engine, and he said "yeah you have an electric power steering system, since your battery is struggling a little that probably has to do with whatever you're talking about, we didn't touch the front of your car, and a little old bump like that would not cause front of the vehicle damage at all"

the 28th, saturday. I go to turn my car on and it barely starts. worse than the day before. I go to advanced auto, they tested(emailed me the results) and stated that I shouldnt even be able to turn my car on because the battery is so low. THey said since i just changed out my battery, they can replace it for free since i have warranty. however I only have one battery replacement and since i havent had issues with my car, i should go to the dealership and demand for them to fix the problems that are happening post-picking my car up from them.

29th, Sunday, today. I cant start my car, period.

I personally changed out my alternator/battery 2 months ago, as it is a 2013 vehicle and I was having issues with them. After changing those out, I never had a single electrical issue since. i have the receipts for everything.

I called progressive and left a message with the agent handling my case explaining all of this. they open tomorrow so i am waiting to hear back. What steps do i need to take? hire a lawyer?

I'm so frustrated, i need my car to work. I can afford a lawyer but I would rather not do so. I'm also in the military so I'm going to check if our base lawyers can help me. Do I take someone with me to the dealership tomorrow? do I wait to hear from the other parties insurance company to call sanders ford on my behalf, do i ask to be put in a three way call with them?

    Insurance situation

    Posted: 30 Aug 2021 12:42 AM PDT

Just today I noticed that I was charged over 1000 from my insurance and I do further digging in and turns out my insurance agent who signed me up for the policy put false information about me to bring the premium down to what she promised me. They updated my information, charged me the difference since the creation of the policy, and gave me a new premium! What I'm confused about is what to do? Is there any way to get my money back? I had no idea this was going on till now when the charged showed up.

Travelling to home country from the US

    Posted: 29 Aug 2021 06:38 PM PDT

I have just arrived to my home country (EU, Schoengen) and realized that I have no health coverage here.

I live in the USA on a work visa (non-immigrant, no green card) and have Aetna Choice POS II via my employer. I already wrote to them to ask they cover visits abroad but they tend to take some time to reapond so i tried to buy a travel insurance for a peace of mind. And I'm failing. Travel insurances dont cover the country of residence, and for me that's technically europe, since i dont have a green card, even though I lived in the USA for 2 years now and don't have europe based insurance.

Also, if i buy something onljne now, can the fact that im already here and wasnt covered while flying affect my coverage?

Please help I got in accident earlier and I didn’t know what to do

    Posted: 29 Aug 2021 08:27 PM PDT

Earlier I accidentally scraped a car because I'm not very experienced at driving. I didn't know what to do so I apologize and offered if I can just pay him cash instead of getting police and insurance involved. He said 250 so he drove me to an atm and I gave him 250 and he said that we're good. He did take a picture of my license plate. Did I do anything wrong am I still screwed because he took a picture of the license. I already know I'm an idiot..

Will Insurance Cover Damages in this Situation?

    Posted: 29 Aug 2021 07:46 PM PDT

A father insured his son's car. The car was purchased and registered under his own name, but the father still covered it under his name as the primary driver and no additional drivers on the policy.

Car Title + Registration: Son Name Insurance: Father Name

So let's suppose the son is driving said car, and gets into an at fault accident. Will the Father's insurance cover the damages/fees?

I've tried to look into what policies have to say about non owners, but there's some that suggest the son's accident would be covered, but a few others that suggest something about legal or financial interest in the car (as it was purchased by him) may result in insurance denying coverage.

    What happens here?

Why is car insurance so expensive and how can I get it for cheaper?

    Posted: 29 Aug 2021 10:27 PM PDT

I just turned 21 years old and I got a car for my birthday it's fully owned so the only thing I'm required to pay for is the insurance and tags and what not. I've never owned a car before, just got my license and I don't have a credit score. All of the online quote things say my insurance will be about 400-600$ a month and I just don't have that much extra money a month. Is it always this much money for first timers? I live in Louisville, KY if that helps.

    Drunk driver

    Posted: 29 Aug 2021 08:23 AM PDT

Hello, last night my leased vehicle was hit by a drunk driver while it was parked out on the curb. The driver passed out at the wheel and was awoken by police who did not seem to find insurance in the vehicle. Police are saying a report will not be ready for 7-10 days and that is when I will know for sure if the driver is insured. My vehicle is undeliverable and needs to be fixed. My question is if I file a claim under my insurance but later discover the other driver is insured, can I apply his insurance retroactively or am I just accepting paying for the damages?

Someone hit my car, minimal damage but it is a lease car and paintless dent repair guys can’t fix it, what should I do ?

    Posted: 29 Aug 2021 09:10 PM PDT

Some #$%^@#$% didn't know how to reverse even though I park my cars side by side with at least 2-3 feet gap and this is a brand new lease and I am even more careful

Happened on the driver side when on a road side parking with an angle and just back onto the road only by turning the steering to right when reversing, so don't understand how in the hell they turned this badly to rub the tire to the car!!

    https://imgur.com/a/b7H1wBV

After using bug and tar removing cleaner, the marks are gone but there is a very very slight dent rarely visible and needed to touch to be felt, long time for lease to be over but what do you think of chances of getting charged during return?

Checked with local paintless dent repair shop and they say they can't repair the door part which is easily seen or felt if observed keenly, what are my options now? Too late to complain hit and run ? I cleaned off the marks but have pictures.

My insurance raises premium even for not at fault accidents I had and worried this will effect that if I can take it to insurance claim

This is in Illinois, US btw

I work for them so I know this firsthand but remember the Drivewise commercials that mention that safe driving can help you earn money back? Well, the savings will only be added as policy credit, instead of having the option to receive it as a check/direct deposit.

Oh and the mobile app is ass.

    Question about claim filing

    Posted: 29 Aug 2021 04:44 PM PDT

So me and my girlfriend were visiting a museum today, and we went to leave, and we were in line waiting to validate our parking and exit the museum parking lot. The car in front of us randomly decided they wanted to go to the other line, and they began to reverse, and I laid on the horn for a good 5-6 seconds, and they just kept reversing and ended up hitting us.

The guy got out, said he was sorry, accepted blame, and said he thought it was another car honking at him (didn't really understand that part, but anyways) we got his insurance, took pictures, and now i'm just wondering what to do at this point. We've never been involved in something like this, so we're not really sure how to go about this. Do we call his insurance first? Do we call ours? Helpful tips and tricks to make this go as smoothly and efficiently as possible, etc.

    Thank you guys so much!

Am I at fault for rear ending a boat trailer with its hazards on

    Posted: 29 Aug 2021 04:59 AM PDT

I rear-ended a boat on a trailer being towed by a truck on a highway in KS. The accident happened near a lake campsite. I was going down a single lane highway at 60mph into a long curve near the entrance to a lakeside campsite. As I entered the curve I saw a truck towing a large trailer moving pretty slowly in my lane and with hazards on. There was a clear road ahead and no oncoming traffic so I slowed down a bit but moved to overtake.

To my surprise the truck and boat trailer veered into the lane I was overaking them on and I slammed my brakes but did crash into the trailer. The trailer driver never signalled that he would turn because he had the hazard lights on. My car is probably totalled and the boat trailer took some damage but it's still very useable.

We are working it out with insurance but did I really f up here? Did I f up for not anticipating that the truck would turn or is it the trailer driver for not properly signalling?

EDIT: forgot to mention that he was trying to turn right into a driveway

Received a medical claim for a doctor I never saw

    Posted: 29 Aug 2021 06:56 PM PDT

I recently went to get an ultrasound done by a tech. Never saw a doctor my entire visit and was told by the tech the doctor would call my PCP to hand over results. Now my insurance sent me two claims — one for the ultrasound and one for the doctor I never saw. Is this normal or can I dispute the claim with the doctor? I'm from Massachusetts.

    Loss of use car accident

    Posted: 29 Aug 2021 05:56 PM PDT

Hi everyone! I was the victim of a car accident like a month ago. During this time a friend was able to give me rides to my university, but during this week he's not going to be around. Can I take a Lyft/Uber and keep the receipts so his insurance company can issue me a refund since they haven't provide me a rental car yet!?

The thing is that I got hit by a door dash driver that was in an active delivery, so until Geico (his personal insurance) doesn't finish their investigations and deny coverage (which is most likely to happen since Geico is for personal insurance, and not commercial) Doordash's insurance company cannot provide me a rental

    Thanks!

Currently in the midst of a level 3 water loss claim in our condo. The city accepted full liability. Should I use their repair and restoration company? Should we hire a lawyer?

    Posted: 29 Aug 2021 05:12 PM PDT

[California, USA]. We had a sewage backup that spilled out of the bathroom into the hallway, and about 1/4 of all 3 rooms, resulting in a Category 3 Water Loss claim. The other party's insurance accepted full liability and are in the process of remediating.
The sanitation department did not arrive until approximately 3 hours after my parents came home. During that 3 hours, my parents were bailing out the water and cleaning it up with towels and shirts and the like, as well as a shop-vac on the carpet. My parents aren't native English speakers, are in their 60s, and blue collar workers. They see a mess, they clean. At that time they were putting wet items on any large surface available, due to the sheer amount of items they have, and the size of their home, that was most of their furniture.
It wasn't until the sanitation officials arrived that they were given a claim form and a guide, at which point they read that they should not try to clean it themselves. They were never told this by the officials, they only stopped after reading the one page pamphlet they were given. About 45 minutes later, the water cleanup company came and started to cut carpet, set up air scrubbers, etc. We've already been told by the adjuster to throw away the shop vac, the clothes and towels were tossed the day of the incident before they left for the hotel. He also told my parents to go to the doctor as soon as possible, which will also be covered.
Before they start the demo, we were told they need to do a full "pack out", which starts this Monday. We just received the work authorization form today. They will be taking photos of every item and checking if there is any damage, if it can be cleaned, or if it needs to be written as a total loss.
So far, we know that all of the carpet in the condo will be removed, in every room. In the bathroom, they'll be removing pretty much everything; the tub and tiles, the toilet, the vinyl flooring, as well as the vanity cabinets, and then all of the surrounding drywall up to about 2 feet I think. They will also be removing the doors and the drywall in the hallway.
My big question right now is do we need another outside group to take a look before we sign the work authorization for them to start the "pack out"?
Our biggest point of concern is how they decide what to keep, what to toss, and what to clean. This process is supposed to start on Monday. They said they have a separate team that does the inspecting of each item. Ideally, we'd want to replace everything, but they said that because the water didn't actually flood the condo, there isn't much legality in replacing everything, and the adjuster wouldn't approve.
The example they gave was in the living room, we have a piano in the corner of the room. They said because it was over 5 feet from where the sewage water reached(they measured from the area of cut out carpet that had touched sewage water) and it was sealed wood, there was no way the insurance agency would replace it. Here is a photo of the room in question, with the piano circled in blue in the back. You can see where they cut out the carpet:
    https://imgur.com/Av2zs2S
Now I understand not replacing it, but what about getting it cleaned? I mean, our place was flooded with sewage, ideally, we'd want anything we are going to keep to be completely fully sanitized! Another example is one of the bedrooms that shared a wall with the bathroom. That room is an office, with several cabinets. They are tossing both pieces of furniture that were against the bathroom-sharing wall, but not the other furniture further away. Here is a photo, with the cabinet being written as a Total Loss with an "X", and the items that will probably put in storage without doing anything circled in blue.
    https://imgur.com/Wuq0liD
Again, if we can't get them replaced, we'd like to have them cleaned. How do we argue for that?

One last example is this closet full of clothes and some other items:
    https://imgur.com/2CUOSI9
There is still a ton of stuff next to where they cut the carpet. The items circled in blue will probably not be cleaned or thrown out. Can I fight that?
Also, before they throw anything away, or send them away to get cleaned, will we receive a cost breakdown of how much each cleaning of each item will cost, or an item that's a total loss? I could see a bunch of stuff that my parents would rather throw away and take the cleaning cost as a payout instead. They would write off everything as a total loss if they could, they don't want most of it now that their home was contaminated with raw sewage.
Any tip/insights on things we should do/ask/look for/avoid are greatly appreciated!

Need advice about my car being flooded.

    Posted: 29 Aug 2021 02:16 PM PDT

it won't let me post pictures or video so I will try my best to put it in words. Our street got flooded which resulted in water going into my car. The water came up to the bumper. When I opened the door there was water almost up to the bottom of the pedals. I wanted to know if it is a good idea to call insurance and tell them about it. I have full coverage on progressive but I am not sure if they will cover it. I have a Volvo s40 2006.

    Location: New Jersey, United States.

My mechanic said Fuel Pump Electronic Control Module has water in it so it might be worth it to replace it. So I ordered one.

To Buy or To Wait (with my accident)

    Posted: 29 Aug 2021 02:08 PM PDT

    Hey all,

I was involved in a moving violation in 2018, but because of certain laws and the nature of the accident if I don't make any violations until November this year then this violation will be removed from my record. If I buy car insurance now they will quote me at something like double the price because of this accident.

My question: If I buy insurance now and pay double the price, when the accident is removed from my record will they decrease my insurance cost or will they still remember the accident?

Any State Farm folks who know about Home Systems Protection endorsement? Did I mess up?

    Posted: 29 Aug 2021 07:52 AM PDT

I had a water heater go out suddenly. I called my agent and asked about filing a claim to fix it. The cost to replace the unit wasn't very much and the deductible is 500. I have a claims free discount on my home owners insurance.

When the policy was sold to me they said that the endorsement was sort of like a home warranty but not quite the same thing, and that claims made under that endorsement don't count as normal home owners claims. When I filed they said it wouldn't cause my premiums to go up, but now I'm questioning if that's true or not because of the discount I get. It's my understanding that if you have a second home owners claim in seven years you'll be dropped. And I don't want to do that just to save money.

So do HSP claims count as normal home owners claims and will my premiums go up?
