Just got a 5k Electric Bill

    Posted: 28 Aug 2021 12:09 PM PDT

Been in business for over a year now and I just got a 5k electric bill. Average bill for the last year has been 200-400 depending on the month, no big deal. I had a meter read back in may which DIRECTLY lined up with their estimations from the last year from my movein read. According to their read I used more power in the last 3 months than this unit has in it's entire existence.

Also my meter multiplier is 6? Not sure what that is.

I'd love to talk to my provider but they're M-F 10-4 so I have to wait but what could have possibly happened here? The only noteworthy thing I've added recently was an electric dryer BUT I've had that for about 8 months now and as stated, estimates were dead onto the meter read that was 4 months ago. I also do not have access to this meter without the landlord which I can do. As mentioned, I'll be calling my provider but WTF.

    Anyone have any thoughts?

Is running a Business just not for me? the stress is killing me

    Posted: 28 Aug 2021 11:08 PM PDT

I've been running a small Lawncare/landcaping business for the past 10 months or so. Its really just been on an off as with covid its been extremely hard getting customers. I'm sure i could make it work as a fulltime gig but im kind of considering just getting a real job again and leaving this behind me entirely or (most likely) keeping it as a side gig.

The pay can be amazing especially for someone as young as me (25) with a fully booked week (4ish days) i can easily clear $2500 doing around 20 hours or less work it is bloody physical work but i NEVER came close in any other job working 3x as many hours. So it honestly sounds like a dream come true, start when i want, work whenever i want to etc but lately im considering throwing in the towel as my mental health has never been worst in my life really. The issue i find is without a set schedule my life feels like a mess and without a "structure" of some sort i dont know how to spend my time, same thing for sleeping in without "having" to be somewhere at a certain time im quite lazy if im honest. Another thing is i just hate is the constant "hustle" that you have to do when running a business, Advertising, Meeting new customers, meeting their requests and keeping them happy, Quoting/estimating, driving all over the place, answering the phone at home etc my head is constantly spinning and its impossible to just switch off and just trying to coordinate everything is so complex for me and i honestly dont think i have the "intelligence" to juggle all these different tasks and make it all work in my head.

I get home from a certain project i just completed and may be happy i just made $600 for a couple hours work but i cant switch off and then im thinking "I need to get more customers" and the cycle seems never ending. I cant enjoy the present moment much anymore. I remember couple years ago working a part time job and it felt amazing finishing a shift for the day and just coming home etc and relaxing, i felt like i could just enjoy my free time so much more. Of course there is more to it and theres soooo fcking much about jobs i hate but this business thing just feels like to much for me.

    Hiring parent as PA/driver

    Posted: 28 Aug 2021 07:55 PM PDT

    Hi guys,

I own a small business as a traveling veterinarian that requires me to travel frequently across Florida and to Louisiana or Texas. My dad is a retired veteran who was a cross country truck driver before retirement and is going a bit stir crazy now that he's home all the time. I'm thinking of hiring him as a personal driver/personal assistant for these longer out of state trips I need to take (I could fly but I'd like to be able to bring my dogs along as well). Often times I'm having to travel immediately after working an overnight emergency shift so having someone to drive while I sleep in transit to my next assignment can be huge.

I think realistically it would be 3-5 days of work once or twice a month.

Can I hire him as an independent contractor or should I bring him on as a part time employee?

I'm trying hard this year to reduce my AGI, need a way to maximize my sleep in between jobs, and I'm sure my dad could use some extra money so I feel like this is a win/win/win but I'm also very new to owning my own business and it's really expanded rapidly this year so I'm trying to make the smartest move.

What is the best Clock-in App?

    Posted: 28 Aug 2021 07:34 PM PDT

Right now I have my employees track their hours on physical paper time cards. I have an iPad that I want to use with an app to track their time. The only feature I need is for my employees to clock in and out. It would be nice if I could integrate it with Gusto as well. Thanks

I’ve had contractors doing work for me for months but never 1099d them. What now ?

    Posted: 28 Aug 2021 05:30 AM PDT

I'm only 22 and this is my first buisness. It took off unexpectedly and has pulled over 60,000 in the last few months.

The last 4 months I've had independent contractors doing work for my business but have not 1099d any of them, as I thought that was something they did on there end.

Is it too late to 1099 them for the work they already completed ? Thanks for any help

Edit : can they refuse to give me there ss number to avoid receiving one ?

How do you find a product to import and resell? Then how o you get manufacturers to take you seriously?

    Posted: 28 Aug 2021 11:42 PM PDT

I asked a Polish company a couple months ago how much it would take to import their product and get sole distribution rights. We'd build a social media & grassroots marketing plan to sell the product in existing markets, competing against known brands of similar products already here. Cashflow & initial investment, for all intents & purposes, isn't problem. I essentially was just dismissed, saying they get that offer all the time. What gives? Do some foreign manufacturers really have people offering them large amounts of cash to buy-in to their product?

who pays the tax on assets transferred to a startup LLC

    Posted: 28 Aug 2021 02:56 PM PDT

I've searched everywhere, is this REALLY that obscure of a question?!

I want to know who is responsible for the taxes of assets generated before the business officially starts. So, let's say I make a profit from buying and selling things online. since it was a side hustle I only transferred a small amount of the profits to my personal bank account. The side hustle has grown enough now that I want to make it into a business, I saved money to pay the taxes on all of the profits I made, but I want to start a business and give ALL of the money, assets, and goods to the business. If I do that, does the Tax liability get transferred to the business as well? Or will I still need to pay the taxes on the profits I made before the business was officially started. I don't want to give everything to my business and then be stuck with the personal taxes.

I'm going to get in contact with a lawyer and accountant eventually, i just want to kinda be prepared for whatever is the outcome. If anyone has done this before it would be a great help!!!

Does anyone run their biz mostly through Facebook? Trying to learn specifics of 'Boosting' Facebook group sale listings.

    Posted: 28 Aug 2021 10:59 AM PDT

There are mechanical differences between a group sales post and a marketplace post, and turning one into the other, as well as differences between local marketplace and items with shipping.

I'm specifically referring to posting to sales groups, and using the marketplace feature so that i can promote my posts with group users.

When you 'boost' a group sale post, you must crosspost to marketplace. It shows a preview of your boosted listing and how it will appear on news feeds, including the group name - so it will boost to more users of those groups?

When you boost, you use a 3 day campaign that ends when you sell the item. If you mark it sold in marketplace but not the groups, will it continue to boost to group users?

The business is quite profitable and the owner is having a hard time keep track of payments and clients and asked me to find an app or system to solve this problem The service delivery and payment /collection is a very lengthy process and for some clients, the entire service delivery takes around 6 months,

This is what we need : An app that manages clients payment information, For example, Client X walks into my firm, gives me his first 50% of the deposit in 2020, his balance is Xx usd,

We need an app that manages the entire profile of the client, and provide an annual summary like the following

    Bike rental company insurance?

    Posted: 28 Aug 2021 05:21 PM PDT

Hey all, wondering if anyone in here has experience running a bike rental company. Specifically I'm curious about how business insurance cost scales with size.

I've been doing delivery via e-bike in NYC for a while now and I'm thinking of going into business renting to gig workers. So far assets under management = (1) $1600 delivery bike 😂 But I'm thinking ahead. Thanks much

Why do I need to pay 10k + to some lawyer to franchise my business. I already have people that want to buy in.

Why can't I just draft up a simple agreement saying hey here's the initial fee for set up, and this % is the royalty, and from me you're going to get xyz. Signed sealed delivered….

    Any reviews on SPOD?

    Posted: 28 Aug 2021 10:42 AM PDT

Tried to place a sample order and it wouldn't go through, my bank said it wasn't a problem on their end and I spoke to the customer service rep for spod and never heard back. Also, my password was alerted as compromised a few days later. Is this typical of them or was it really just an odd occurrence? Thanks in advance for any responses.

    Need business valuation

    Posted: 28 Aug 2021 03:46 PM PDT

My partner and I are inquiring about purchasing a local coffee shop. Owner would like to retire and it's a profitable turnkey business; however the asking price is shockingly high. The owner has included "goodwill" as a little over 2/3 of the asking price. The building is leased not owned which to me feels like the customer base isn't promised if we lose the lease in a few years due to unforeseeable circumstances with the landlord. I've looked up comparables for buying actual buildings on the same block and they aren't that much more expensive than what she's asking for her business only.

The owner has turned over financial records from the past 4 years to us, but I need a business valuation and I'm not sure how to do that. Any advice about valuations and what "goodwill" is worth would be appreciated. Thanks.

If you had a business that you ran full time, and then you wanted to open a second business such as a coffee shop, how would you go about doing so?

    Posted: 28 Aug 2021 03:35 PM PDT

Say you have a business which you run full time, and you have the money and desire to create a second business such as a coffee shop or cafe. How would you run the second whilst you run the first full time?

Would you just hire a manager who doubles up as the barista? How would you find someone you can trust? Would you take a few weeks away from your first business to oversee the second?

    Thank you for any input
