Denied SHORT TERM DISABILITY claim after c-section due to pre existing Condition? Posted: 10 Aug 2021 01:33 PM PDT Can someone help me understand if there is a way or loophole to get my claim decision overturned? My insurance start date was the first of January 2021 and they said because I had an appointment with my OB for registration for my pregnancy that I was denied. My initial appointment was in January but my registration fell within the look back period. Can someone help me this is very stressful considering everything. [link] [comments] |
Car insurance on paid off vehicles Posted: 11 Aug 2021 03:39 AM PDT I have a SUV that is paid off worth about 25k (I plan to run this in the ground I use to transport my kiddos). I also have a car I drove pre kids worth about 14k that's paid off. This vehicle needed a new engine and I just fixed it. It gets better gas mileage than the SUV so I'm thinking of just keeping it to drive when I don't have the kids. Question though I'm wondering if I need full coverage on both or if liability is ok? I'm not sure the difference right now I have full coverage on the SUV and hadn't had coverage on the car since it wasn't drivable. I need to add coverage so was looking at everything as a whole and unsure what to do. Thank you! [link] [comments] |
38 weeks pregnant and Aetna is charging me per appt? No proof of pregnancy?? Posted: 10 Aug 2021 10:21 PM PDT My husband got a new job and our new insurance began on August 1st. At the time the new insurance started I was 36 weeks pregnant. I called Aetna to make sure I didn't need to do anything special to confirm my pregnancy. Now on August 10th I've received three claims for my prenatal care. First claim is for the doctor who saw me on August 3rd for my 36 week visit, Second claim is for my lab work which is a urine culture they do at every appt, and third is a DENIED claim for a breast pump which has a note saying NO PROOF OF PREGNANCY DENIED. I also got an ultrasound done this day and haven't seen a claim come through yet. I saw a doctor again today as I'll be getting a c section August 18th and am so pregnant I have to be seen weekly now. Now I'm freaking out that I won't be covered or that something crazy is going on. I did get a call from the hospital I'm delivering at last Friday going over the total cost of the surgery and care after insurance so how can they not know that I'm pregnant? Motorcycle insurance for a 16 year old. Too much? CA Posted: 11 Aug 2021 02:00 AM PDT Hi I am looking forward to getting my m1 leaners motorcycle license at 16. Reason is with the M1 you can drive on the road by yourself. I work early in the morning at a golf course so this is realisticly for my parents. I was looking at a Honda Cbr250r as a good starter bike buy yet my insurance is still very high. The quote we got told us I would be paying 7300 a year at 16 near the off season which I find crazy. Am I right or is this how insurance generally is. [link] [comments] |
Wrong procedure done at hospital Posted: 11 Aug 2021 01:07 AM PDT Hi, so this isn't about me, so I'll refer to "patient". I'm not sure whether this really goes here or may be better somewhere else, if I could get pointed in the right direction I'd appreciate it! Patient has cancer. After chemo, his dr sent in a preauthorization for a Chest CT, patient received a letter from health insurance stating Chest CT was authorized. CT is scheduled, patient receives a Chest/Abdomen CT. Insurance kicks back the claim stating they only authorized Chest CT, will not cover the difference (several thousand dollars). Dr office said they sent in the correct script, meaning the doc ordered the correct exam according to them. Hospital billing was super unhelpful. Patient managed to keep himself alive, barely, but now the bill is in collections. What can we do here? The most frustrating aspect for me is that I have worked at this hospital's CT lab, I know exactly how to navigate patients chart to figure out the exact step the exam was switched from Chest to Chest/Abdo and I need to know this because I really feel like that party should be responsible for the bill insurance denied. But alas it would be highly illegal and unethical for me to do so. I'll point out as well that performing the wrong exam on a patient is grounds for at minimum a "red rule" write up, and I know one tech who was fired for not verifying patient and exam one time. It's kinda a big deal. I suppose I could perhaps make a stink about the additional unnecessary radiation to patient due to whoever's negligence if I thought it'd get me somewhere, but I'm not sure who to talk to about making this bill go away. Am I too late now it's in collections? Can I ask insurance to go to bat for patient? [link] [comments] |
How long does a "Do not write this customer a policy" note on an account last? Posted: 10 Aug 2021 07:06 PM PDT Washington state. Called up Geico to draw up a quote for motorcycle insurance. After the quote was drawn up, I asked about commercial insurance (doordash) since I was considering doing it down the road, and was informed that they carry no such policy and as such Doordash is prohibited. Called back 30 minutes later and spoke to a different agent and asked to go ahead and pull the trigger on the original quote, and was of course told that they would not be writing any motorcycle policy for me due to a note under my account, presumably previous rep writing: "DISCUSSED DOORDASH, DO NOT WRITE POLICY" How long, on average, do these things stay in place? Should I just keep re-applying every 6 months? Am I banned for life from ever holding any motorcycle policy with Geico now? Thanks for your help [link] [comments] |
Posted: 10 Aug 2021 06:36 PM PDT A Geico-insured vehicle rear ended my vehicle. Their client has refused to cooperate with the claim I submitted. It took them 4 business days before they called to say that they would be closing the claim due to them not being able to corroborate the story despite having ample photo evidence. What kind of recourse do I have at this point? Have my own insurance company go after them? Small claims court? This all occurred in Salem, Massachusetts. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 10 Aug 2021 05:54 AM PDT Hey everyone, I'm a bodily injury adjuster for an auto insurance company and I'm overloaded and overwhelmed right now with workload. I'm looking into other companies but I'm wondering if anyone can tell me what company they work for and what the workload is like because I don't want to leave my job and my tenure just for another position that's just as bad in another company. So I guess I'll go first: I'm at Geico in Fl. I have a workload of 191 Bodily Injury exposures last time I checked and total activities of 233. We're currently WFH until at least October (they keep pushing the date a couple months at a time). So where does everyone else work and what does the workload look like? Also let me know if anyone knows a better sub for this post. Edit: I'd just like to thank everyone for your input. I know I didn't reply to any specific comments but I was working all day(shocker, lol) and honestly, I'm just too emotionally overwhelmed right now to try to make a logical replies. what to do with a salvaged car? Posted: 10 Aug 2021 05:48 PM PDT I was recently in a collision while driving my girlfriend's 2005 Honda CRV. I was rear-ended, so the other driver's insurance (State Farm) accepted full responsibility. After the mechanic that State Farm referred us to declared the car totaled, we decided to keep the title to the salvaged car because when we dropped the car off it was still fully drivable with only cosmetic issues. My gf went to pick up the car today, and the mechanics had completely taken the car apart, and it is now in way worse condition than when we dropped it off (ie it isn't drivable now). It feels ridiculous that the car worked before going to the mechanic and now it doesn't, but I guess that's how these things go. I think we have a few options:
Any thoughts from anyone on what we should do or how to do it? Neither of us are care people, so I'm not even sure what the right questions to ask are. Our goal is to have a working car without spending too much money, but I just don't know what is feasible. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 10 Aug 2021 10:57 AM PDT Has anyone been through this and do you have any advice for how to get my doctors office to file it correctly? They said they don't have a separate billing code for "determining the cause of" infertility it just all gets filed under infertility. And apparently whatever billing code they use for that is not considered covered by my plan. But I have now had two separate agents at Anthem tell me that testing and diagnostics to determine the cause of infertility IS covered (including treatment of those causes), just not infertility services such as IUI, IVF, etc. They told me since it's a covered service I needed to call the doctor's office and have them refile it under the appropriate billing code. I asked anthem to provide me with the appropriate billing code for that type of appointment and they wouldn't give it to me. My doctor's office is saying they don't have a separate billing code for diagnostics. Has anyone had experience with this kind of situation and can help me figure out my next steps? Doctor won't file it under anything not related to infertility because that's insurance fraud so that's a non starter as well. I am preparing to file an appeal if need be, but if I can just get them to refile it under the appropriate code that would make everything a lot easier. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 10 Aug 2021 05:33 PM PDT I had my vehicle stolen from right in front of me. Did a police report stating there were personal items, cash and tools for work in the vehicle. Insurance company when I reported theft were very helpful, got me a rental and said go ahead and buy replacement items and keep the receipts for the claim. Now they are saying that the items weren't specifically listed on police report i.e. I didn't tell the officer every single item just said tools. And that this is enough to deny the claim. All the tools are reasonable to my occupation, gave them a copy of tool contract with my employer (what I need to supply). Mind you the total for tools was 6000k but my coverage is for 3500$ max. Located Ontario, Canada Is this right? Thanks [link] [comments] |
Did I mess up talking to Claims adjuster for other drivers insurance instead of attorney? Posted: 10 Aug 2021 08:14 PM PDT I was in a motorcycle accident last week. I was driving down the road in a car merged across two lanes of traffic and cut me off and I hit the car in the rear wheel well area. The bike slid across the road and I rolled the opposite direction. Three witnesses gave statement as well as the cop deemed the other driver at fault, and the other driver admitted to merging in front of me on body cam. However when the cop sided the driver with reckless driving and failure to yield the driver stated that they were not going to accept fault. I unfortunately forgot to update my motorcycle insurance when summer started, so it still had winter coverage which was liability. So I started a claim with the opposing drivers insurance and they had me give a statement. Some of the questions asked were definitely trying to manipulate the situation, but I was careful it did not admit fault, as I was not at fault. Should I have contacted in attorney instead of speaking to the insurance? I am just worried that the insurance are not going to have my best interest at heart since I am not the one insured by them. The insurance provider is one of the larger providers in the country. Thanks for any thoughts or feedback. Edited to add that I am based in South Carolina. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 10 Aug 2021 08:10 PM PDT Is there a cheaper option? 200 a month is insane along with gas. There has got to be a cheaper option. Any advice where to start? If I find an option they'll go along with it. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 10 Aug 2021 11:15 AM PDT Hi everyone. I am currently a police officer but am looking to leave the profession and am interested in being a claims adjuster. I have about 4 years of experience in local law enforcement and as a result, have dealt with countless instances of damage to property and bodily injury, whether in auto accidents, storm damage, fires, etc. Do insurance carriers value this sort of experience? Or would I only be qualified for entry level roles/trainee positions? I have a bachelor's degree and will be completing a Master's at the end of the year. Any insights you can give would be helpful. Are we out $1000? Alberta Blue Cross Posted: 10 Aug 2021 07:18 PM PDT My partner who is visiting me in Canada visited the doctors for a check up and tests at the recommendation of health link. What she did not do was call her insurance prior to going to the hospital. T&C's state that we need to call immediately before receiving treatment/consultation or it may invalidate the claim. She is planning on calling tomorrow when the blue cross line opens to explain the situation. Is there anything we can do, or are we out $1000? Thank you for your help [link] [comments] |
My car was totaled overnight while parked. Posted: 10 Aug 2021 09:24 AM PDT Maryland 2 months ago I woke up to my truck smashed up where it was parked. The other driver tried to flee but i found the car abandoned up the road a bit because it was not drivable. Waited for the owner (who did show up) and called my insurance company and the police for a report. My truck was in the body shop for 50 days before they declared it a total loss. Her insurance company called me yesterday and basically said they are washing their hands of it because her collision coverage is only 25k and my truck/rental costs are much more than that. My insurance company calls me and says they will handle everything from here on out. Then proceed to tell me that my uninsured motorist property damage isn't enough to cover it so it has to go through my collision coverage which has a $2000 deductible. Why TF am I paying anything for any of this? I WAS SLEEPING WHEN SHE TOTALED MY TRUCK! What are my rights here? This does not seem kosher to me. Is this how it works? I need options. Any help is appreciated [link] [comments] |
Using the Accelerated Benefit Rider on a Term Life Insurance Policy Posted: 10 Aug 2021 06:02 PM PDT There's a vague sounding paragraph on the form that has the following statements: "A 12 month discount will be applied which reflects the early payment of amounts held under your Policy."..."The Policy's loan interest rate (7.4%) will be multiplied by the benefit amount to determine the amount of discount." Soooo... we're looking at cashing in a $150,000 policy due to terminal cancer diagnosis. They're going to keep $11,100? Is that what this is saying? What is the logic behind this (other than being greedy, that's a given) What is the reason *they* give for keeping so much of it? Edit to add location: Iowa [link] [comments] |
Mandatory disclosures? Is that a thing? Posted: 10 Aug 2021 05:55 PM PDT I have insurance with a provider that does not carry insurance for anyone who has a DWI or DUI. I got a DUI 8ish years ago, but it was in another state. My insurance company never found out about it as far as I know. I've been going through a transition period and moving to a different state and I mentioned this insurance issue to a friend of mine. They told me I was required under law to tell the insurance company about the incident that they didn't know about. Is there any truth to this? [link] [comments] |
First at-fault accident - how much will my premiums increase? Posted: 10 Aug 2021 05:45 PM PDT I just moved to Miami from CA two weeks ago and picked up a new leased car last week. I got into a fender bender yesterday. No one was injured but the damage to my car was quoted at ~$2K, possibly the same for theirs. I was determined to be the at-fault driver by the officer on the scene, so the other party is going through my policy for their damage. I have progressive insurance, and My deductible is $1k. Because I am a new member with them, they won't qualify me for accident forgiveness. That said, should I use my collision policy for my repair or just pay out of pocket? Will my using my collision policy when the other party is also using the policy impact the premium raise a lot more significantly, or does it not matter? A little background info, I am a PhD student living off a student stipend, so money is tight. I might be able to cover the repair cost myself but not right away. I just want to weigh my options and decide what's the best thing to do to minimize the impact on my insurance premiums. Thank you so much! [link] [comments] |
Bumper scraped by guy going in reverse in aisle Posted: 10 Aug 2021 05:35 PM PDT My first time getting into any kind of car accident, so hoping someone can help. Was pulling out of my parking space when I saw that a guy was going - IN REVERSE - down the aisle at a high-ish speed (for a parking lot). I stopped and honked. He kept going and hit my car. Scraped my bumper and cracked the bottom piece, lower estimate (of 2) is about $1200. I know that normally when you reverse out of a space and hit a car in the aisle, you're at fault, but here 1) I was stopped, and 2) he was going in reverse! That changes who's at fault, doesn't it? I just filed with his insurance. Thanks for any insight/advice. EDIT: This is in California, other driver is with GEICO, I'm with Metromile. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 10 Aug 2021 03:47 PM PDT I am providing the adjuster with the receipts for the 2 pairs of glasses that were part of the theft claim. One pair is about $794 for lenses and frames and the other is about $580 frames and lenses. But I purchased them during a sale period and I had discounts applied to both pairs of glasses. I did not have or use vision insurance for these glasses either. Will the discounts reflect in the price for RCV? [link] [comments] |
Posted: 10 Aug 2021 11:59 AM PDT Located in Virginia and insured by USAA Over the weekend my septic backed up and while scoping the line after the blockage was removed it was discovered that the septic line from the house to the tank is orangeburg pipe that is failing (roots growing through it and beginning to pancake). As part of my homeowners insurance I opted to include 'Water Backup or Sump Pump Overflow" coverage. The description for this is: "This provides coverage for non-flood-related water back-ups through sewer lines and drains, and overflow from sump pumps (machines used to remove water from the foundation or basement of a home)." I am wondering if the line replacement is covered under this water backup coverage or if we will need to pay out of pocket. The septic tank is about 50 feet from the house in a very wooded area so digging the old line out and putting a new line in will likely be around $8-10k. TIA! [link] [comments] |
Help! I DON’T want to commit (renters) insurance fraud. Posted: 10 Aug 2021 09:36 AM PDT Basically, I don't know what I'm doing. I have insurance for replacement cost and my insurance company is covering the thousands of dollars of water/mold damage that all of my stuff came with when we moved in. My insurance guy is on vacation this week, but my daughter starts school next week and we want to try to get things back to normal. I'm rebuying things we need (they had all my sneakers, all my sweaters/dresses, my daughter needs therapy items, we lost a kitchen island)… but I don't know if it's going to look bad if I don't buy identical items. Examples: We had a nugget. It only came in grey when I bought it but my daughter pitched a fit and wanted it in green. It's the same price and item, so I just grabbed it. If it's not covered- it's ok. I just need the thing and was way too tired to deal with that fight. There is a similarly priced/sized island on Amazon to the one we had from ikea, but ikea is going to charge me $50 shipping and Amazon isn't. Do I have to pay the extra shipping for the identical thing? This isn't immediate but I had a name brand designer purse I got on sale (gifted…maybe $200?) that isn't available anymore. It's 7 years old, but it WAS pristine because I only used it for business and I've worked from home for 8 years (so it got used for one week a year). Can I replace it with the same designer and similar style even if the price is stupid (something like $350)? My sneakers are now somewhat collectors items. Ugh. I don't care that they're the color they are, I just want the function. If I don't try to replace them with the same thing even if I can (let's say they're $300 now) but replace them with another in the same brand for say $150 (still more than I initially spent) is that a problem? If I submit for these things am I going to get in trouble or look like I'm trying to game the system somehow? I'm not trying to work around anything- I just want to do the thing right. I literally don't know how this works. If I say something like "let me know if this isn't covered" is that going to look bad? I'm tired and want my life back. TLDR: I know I can submit replacement for similar kind and quality if things ARENT available. But what is similar and what if it IS available? [link] [comments] |
Progressive canceled my policy because of a car accident that was not my fault Posted: 10 Aug 2021 07:37 AM PDT I am a new driver (M 23) and had Progressive for 3 weeks. I'm in Phoenix, AZ. Then a guy hit my car on my 3rd week of being insured. The guy had State Farm and they admitted fault. They will be liable for all damages. I have a driver's license. Yesterday (4th week), Progressive decided to cancel my policy. They're not giving me a clear reason. They said it's because I had a car accident and they had to go after State Farm. What should I do? Auto insurance for out of state college student Posted: 10 Aug 2021 03:04 PM PDT I've trying googling for an answer to no avail. I'd appreciate any suggestions or insight. I'm in Illinois. I have an auto policy with three vehicles, all titled to me and my spouse - he drives one, I drive one, young adult daughter drives the third. Daughter is going to college in Wisconsin and will take "her" car. My insurer is telling me I have to transfer the title and registration to Wisconsin. This appears contrary to Wisconsin DMV guidelines which conclude that neither my daughter nor I would be considered Wisconsin residents - I will remain in Illinois and my daughter will have no permanent address in WI (she will live in a dorm and keep her Illinois drivers license). Insurer is insistent that the transfer is necessary to provide appropriate coverage for Wisconsin. Does this sound right? What am I missing? I have a call center insurer. Is it time for me to grow up and get an agent? Not sure it's relevant but I have 100/300 plus a PUP and want to be sure she remains fully covered by that. Thanks! [link] [comments] |
