    Cash or hold equity?

    Posted: 04 Jul 2021 11:44 AM PDT

I'm currently a software eng at a canadian startup with a comp of 70k +1.2% equity. I have an option of giving up .2% for a bump of 10k in salary. Do you think this is worth it? Few things to consider: - Company is valued around 40m - founder has no plans to sell, only IPO - started as 5th employee and we are now 15 after 2 years - no VC taken and we've been doing quite well with revenue growth (low single digit $M)

    Joining a startup

    Posted: 05 Jul 2021 01:03 AM PDT

    Hello everyone!

I am trying to find a platform that allows people to join a startup. While I have seen a few, they aren't convincing. If it can be a community based platform or website with a good search filter.

Does anyone have any clue where I can join a startup or community?

    Thank you in advance

Should I find an app development agency or an upwork freelancer for a react native / flutter app? What are some legitimate agencies?

    Posted: 05 Jul 2021 01:05 AM PDT

I currently have an app that is a barebones MVP version that runs but is not professional looking. It is a social media related app with a firebase backend for storing photos. I had it developed in Swift for iOS and now would like to redo the entire thing in react native / flutter for iOS and android compatibility. Basically, the app looks a bit janky and I would like to have a more sleek and user friendly version. My budget is around $10,000 to $15,000.

I am currently having difficulty in selecting a freelance developer. It would be great to find someone who can handle both the UI/UX as well as development but am not sure how to choose someone. The last person I chose created an app with a large number of bugs and with bad UI.

I am wondering if perhaps an app development agency might be better, in terms of a guarantee of a certain quality of work. If so, are there agencies that are legitimate and recommended out there?

    Thank you in advance!

I start working on something and then I lose interest fast

    Posted: 05 Jul 2021 12:43 AM PDT

I'm a developer and I can execute my ideas easily, which is awesome. So every time I have an idea I create MVP for it, but soon after I lose interest in it, even when I start promoting I'm like: "Nah, it's stupid, there is no point working on it". Then this product dies, I leave and move on to something else.

People usually say: "That's because you don't trust it enough" or "You don't believe in this idea". That is half true because I do believe but then I lose interest because I think it's not good enough, or I feel like I can't execute it alone.

Did anyone find themselves in the same situation? What did you do?

Tech Stack for a web app based startup

    Posted: 04 Jul 2021 05:40 PM PDT

    Hi All,

Need some advice. I am looking to choose a tech tack to build out a web app. I am familiar with following tech stacks:

    1. Node.js/Express with Typescript - I am very familiar
    2. Rails - I am very familiar
    3. Python + Flask - Somewhat familiar

A concern around Node.js While community support around Node.js plus access to talent is unquestionable, first class concepts such as promises, asyncs have always been a bothering aspect for me as an engineer and seen many of my colleague hate the asynchronous chains in Node.js. So, I am unsure of I would enjoy building the app as time goes on.

A concern around Rails While Rails is great at quickly spinning up an app from scratch with a lot of out of the box scaffolding available at your disposal I am worried about the community support and access to talent.

However with Python, When compared to Rails, I am a bit less familiar with Python. However, from what I hear from my friends and colleagues is that Python has a large community support and access to talent when compared to Rails.

At this point I am exploring to lean towards Python based stack. However, would love to hear the community thoughts round other options above as well as any other paths I could take.

    Thanks in advance.
