Non tipping delivery customer takes 10-15 minutes to come outside for order

    Posted: 03 Jul 2021 12:17 PM PDT

I'm sick of this guy. Not only does he not tip, But he takes 10-15mins to come outside his apt to get his order.

His apt complex is gated and he doesn't want anyone to come in to leave it outside his door. He prefers getting the order directly.

However because he doesn't tip and takes so long, my delivery contractor has no drivers willing to deliver to him. That means I have to deliver it myself which is a PITA. Any tips on how to deal with this?

How much trouble can I get in?

    Posted: 03 Jul 2021 10:56 PM PDT

For having someone work under the table for me? I was helping a friend with money and couldn't afford to put him on payroll but he worked a couple months once a week as a door guy for me, 5 hours per week, and then for about 2.5 months right before Covid he worked 1.5 shifts per week.

He was out of the state for 3/4 of 2019 so all told I think he only worked about 280 hours (split over 2019/2020). This state requires 680 hours for unemployment in a year. He's telling me between my place and other places he has that minimum even though he was out of state for at least 6 months if not more of 2019 and only in the state for 2 months of 2020.

Now he wants to report me to unemployment because he feels cheated out of unemployment. I'm not the only person who he worked for on the side and also, he wasn't physically in the state. I'm tempted to fess up and take the consequences but I don't even know if it's worth it because he won't get unemployment retroactively anyway.

    What should I do?

Open a bank account for an LLC

    Posted: 03 Jul 2021 06:59 PM PDT

Me and my friend want to form an LLC, one of us is a US citizen and the other is a non resident alien. None of us live in the US but we can go. Can we open a bank account if we form an LLC?.

    • We only have a mailing address (P.O. Box).
    • Using an online service to form the LLC, you can put all the addresses of the registered agent.
    • I've heard we can rent a UPS real street address

Has any of you done something like this?

    Thanks in advance...;)

New business needing advice on funding

    Posted: 03 Jul 2021 09:49 PM PDT

Hi everyone! Me and my brother started a party rental business 3 months ago. We have our LLC, and as of now everything has been paid for with our own cash, and then 2 bounce houses on a personal credit card which is already 50% paid off. Business has been great - but it's getting to the point where we need a trailer, a new tent or two, and a chair cart.

We don't want to put our own money out for this and have an emergency come up down the line, so we were thinking credit card or loan under the business. I've been doing some searching and seeing it may be hard without the business having any credit, and couldn't find any decent 0% intro APR cards the business would get approved for with no credit.

I'd love to hear some ideas or opinions if anyone has any! We'd be looking for an enclosed trailer between (3000-4000), and other rental equipment around $1000.

Accountants & biz owners in Australia: how can I setup payroll by myself?

    Posted: 04 Jul 2021 03:12 AM PDT

    Hey guys,

I have a relatively new business and have just been setup as a company in Australia. I will soon have 1 employee and am wondering - what is needed to correctly setup payroll by myself? I do have an accountant, but want to avoid paying them to do it where I can, as its just 1 employee (my mum).

I use xero. Thanks in advance!

How do I advertise my pickup truck service? I'm having trouble getting customers.

    Posted: 03 Jul 2021 12:19 PM PDT

I have a work truck and I move what I can by myself or with another person if the other person is provided.

The customers I do find love me. But I spend a ton of days with no work. There's a huge demand in my area as I live in a retirement city in Florida.

I have business cards, and I was thinking fliers would be nice. Facebook ads is doing nothing for me. It's so early though I'm not even sure what my target market is besides women. Most customers are women.

I've gotten stuff from Home Depot a couple times, both times for women that paid well. Men tend to make me a temporary employee and pay me very little, which I'm not too happy with.

It's almost always home improvement jobs, but small moves pay the most. I honestly don't care what I get as long as it's not a guy with a lawn service and a DUI (long story). I just want to get hired and don't know how to spread awareness.

    Use mica or no ?

    Posted: 03 Jul 2021 11:34 PM PDT

Hey guys, I was thinking about starting a handmade business and make product like body scrubs and body butter. The only thing I'm not certain of is if I should use mica to colour my products. Mica would make them attractive but it's also not that good and could cause health problems if you're not protected enough. I was wondering if my business would attract less people if I didn't include colorants or mica in them.

How to find a good accountant?

    Posted: 03 Jul 2021 04:47 PM PDT

So I'm at the point where I really need someone to keep track of the books. Should I hire someone in house or hire an accounting firm? For those of you that hired a firm what are you paying them and how do I know if they're good?

    Help handling project scope creep.

    Posted: 03 Jul 2021 05:55 PM PDT

My brother and I have a small landscaping business that primarily focuses on lawn maintenance. One of my friends parents had their driveway refinished and added curbs to either side that sit approximately 6" above the existing lawn. He asked if my brother and I would be interested in regrading the area around the new curb so it would be a slope down to meet the existing lawn grade. When I went to check out the job to see if it was something we could handle the client said they would like the grading to be done about 2 feet off the curb. Because our business is 90% lawn maintenance we don't own equipment for moving large amount of soil around but I thought we could easily regrade around the curb using about 6 yards of soil so I accepted the job. Cut to Friday when we begin working the client had ordered 10 yards of topsoil which surprised me but is still doable by two men with hand tools. Once we started working however, the client who was outside began to almost micromanage us and had us regrade the lawn out 15 feet from the curb. The originally agreed upon 6 yards would have been adequate to do the whole project and 10 should have been more than enough but by the end of the day the project started to look more like they wanted their entire front lawn regraded which would probably require closer to 50 yards of topsoil to do. This is way past our capabilities and it would most likely need a bobcat or large tractor with a box scraper to do. I really don't think we will be able to complete the job to the customers expectations so what is my best course of action? Thanks.

TLDR: Job is way larger than client made it out to be initially. No longer capable of completing the job best way to handle situation?

Worried email responses to clients landing in their spam folder. Any advice?

    Posted: 03 Jul 2021 07:28 AM PDT

    Hi all,

Wondered if anyone had experienced a problem similar to this and/or could offer any suggestions:

I get enquiries for my service-based business that come in via contact forms either on my site or various directories I'm registered with.

Send a reply making sure I have the client's email address correct and send..but getting a reply back from people who initially seemed very keen to work with me- is very hit and miss.

Very early on a few emails I sent to people I knew went to their spam folders. I've tested this on a few of my own email addresses and don't seem to be having that problem any more but I do worry it's still happening with new client enquiries.

Aware this may be more of a tech support question but since it's probably costing me business I felt to share here.

    A few things to note:

Added a note next to my contact form on my site advising people to add me to their contacts.

Going phone-only doesn't seem appropriate. I'm a therapist and a lot of people I work with have some degree of anxiety. I want to offer them the safety/comfort of not having to call a stranger on the phone.

Making sure not to add downloads/links to emails.

    Anything else?

EDIT: the likelihood that clients just aren't that interested after my reply has also crossed my mind

Moving over to Zoho CRM - Sales IQ Question

    Posted: 03 Jul 2021 04:24 PM PDT

    Hi All,

Looking to monitor prospect activity on the website, and I'm curious - do I need to get them to opt into something, like a form or a download in order to attach an IP with a contact that's already in Zoho?

Or is there some other client identifier that goes on when they are surfing the website.

I know the cookies are stored automatically, but I don't have the computer acumen to understand if those will work.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

What's a better title for the "blog" page on my website?

    Posted: 03 Jul 2021 05:46 PM PDT

That always makes me think of someone's personal journal and it just leaves a bad taste in my mouth when it comes to business.

The blog deals with graphic design FAQs for clients, info about the process, and branding tips.

All I can think of is "articles," or just the word "read."

Maybe I'll just stick with one of the above, but if anyone can think of something more clever or interesting that would encourage clicks...let me know.

    Thanks y'all. Happy 4th!

S corp through my business. Am I considered self employed?

I'm owner and employee of my s corp, and I get monthly W2 income. Am I considered self employed? The reason I ask is because I'm looking at refinancing my mortgage, and documentation requirements for self employed vs W2 people are very different.

    Business are not for everyone

    Posted: 03 Jul 2021 01:26 PM PDT

I see alot of people are switching to owning there own company now which is good but alot of people don't know how to run a business. Alot of people think its easy money and it could be during certain times but what happens outside of those times. I know there is alot of money floating around right now so people can invest in there own business but I done seen people put there last penny in it and came out broke. Those who been around awhile probably has seen the same. Just approach businesses with caution. Make sure it makes sense. It might be more beneficial to some to invest in other companies if it makes sense long term. That's all I wanted to say. Don't get upset when you can't find workers or you have a bad month and want to quit after but just use common sense.

Question: why would people buy from drop shippers when they could buy from Amazon for faster shipping?

    Posted: 03 Jul 2021 11:03 AM PDT

I know that drop shipping takes time form manufacturing to shipping cuz the whole point is to not stock on inventory, but why would anyone buy stuffs from drops shippers if there's a (I assume) longer delivery time than Amazon Prime?
