Posted: 06 Jul 2021 08:04 PM PDT I have a great opportunity where I will receive 10% of the business per year for the next 5 years until I am a 50% owner. This will be a huge change in my life financially. I am not buying the business. I'm being given this instead of my yearly pay raise by my boss who plans to leave the company eventually. And I will receive % of profits on top of my consistent salary. I'm wondering how this will affect my taxes this year? Because I'm receiving something with a lot of value. Example: say the business is worth 300k I receive 10% valued at 30k. How am I taxed on this? Are there any good ways to go about it to minimize taxes? Loopholes? Advice, help, and brainstorming would be greatly appreciated. Edit: Also, if there is a better subreddit to post this that would be helpful also. I wasn't sure where to go with this sort of question. Small business running 80% plus gross profit. Is that good for tax purposes? Posted: 06 Jul 2021 08:18 PM PDT Hello. I just started a counseling private practice. I've intentionally kept my expenses low and I'm seeing huge profit margins. But Is that a good thing for tax purposes? Would it better to spend more on expenses to lower my overall taxable income or is that only based on the bracket I might be in at the end of the year? I don't know. It feels cool and I might be overthinking it but curious to the feedback. Glad I found this sub. [link] [comments] |
are permanent sales actually good? Posted: 06 Jul 2021 03:54 PM PDT I really hate websites that have all their products on sale 24/7 Like, it shows the price as $99 but next to it shows $249 crossed out to show it's on sale. And it does that for everything. Personally, whenever I see this I get a "scammy" vibe from the website. I view it as a sign of untrustworthiness -- not sales in general, but when every product is showing this I perceive it as it's likely always like this. Especially for repeat customers it looks sus That being said, I understand my POV may not be ideal to be judging marketing tactics as to what works on the masses [link] [comments] |
Posted: 06 Jul 2021 08:47 PM PDT I've posted this in the business page but thought this might be a good page as well :) I am a business consultant in NJ and am working on creating a 20 hour seminar for small businesses and entrepreneurs. What are things you wish you knew when starting up or questions you still find yourself asking? What road blocks do you find your business facing or things you wish you had a better system for? I want to compile information and tools that real people will benefit from! [link] [comments] |
Posted: 06 Jul 2021 07:32 AM PDT I'm 19F and for whatever crazy reason I love cleaning, I'm on the road to getting a medical discharge from the military and I'm excited to get home and do something I love that'll help others too. My only issue right now is I'm not sure how to get started, do I need to dress in a "uniform" or can I show up in shorts and a T-shirt? Will I need to insure my small business (if it can be called that) or can I just put my trust in the public and hope they don't accuse me of anything such as theft. I'm not quite sure how to start doing this but atleast I have an idea what I want to do! I was just going to self advertise on Facebook and hope I get some hits but I'm afraid this won't work out how I imagine it to so I'm coming to y'all for any help or tips you can give someone. The reason why I want to do this over an actual job is the schedule. I like to think I'm an almost responsible adult but I don't like schedules. I was probably going to try to work as a mechanic then do cleaning on the side but I would rather work on my own than for someone else trying to meet their standards. [link] [comments] |
Being trolled on Twitter by former employee that was fired Posted: 06 Jul 2021 08:47 PM PDT A former employee who was fired in 2017 is trolling my business currently, making claims that he was fired because of discrimination. He was fired because of repeated, documented failures to do his job. So, has anybody dealt with this before? If so, what did you do? [link] [comments] |
Posted: 06 Jul 2021 06:35 PM PDT Looking for advice about how to structure a seller financing deal of a small business. The selling price of the small business is around 2.5 million. The seller is reaching retirement age and wants to stay with the company in some capacity. He is open to creative opportunities and just really wants it to be a win win for both of us and wants to see the business be successful more than anything. I am well read in the technical aspects of the company and products but lack the in depth financial knowledge, so I am just starting down the rabbit hole of this end of the business. Thanks in advance. [link] [comments] |
Keeping Track of Software Renewals Posted: 07 Jul 2021 04:05 AM PDT Hey, interested to know who in small to mid sized businesses with no need for a SAM tool would be interested in using something purpose built to store their software licenses and get notified when a renewal date is coming up. No frills or additional features. Would you use it, and if so, what would be important to you? [link] [comments] |
Accepting Visa/Mastercard (Debit & Credit Card) payments from my mobile app Posted: 07 Jul 2021 03:32 AM PDT I have looked into services like Stripe but I don't understand why can't I just integrate with Visa/Mastercard directly from my app? Why do I have to opt for a third party service like Stripe or others that are in the market? [link] [comments] |
[help] Online business for leather and leather like goods or marble items? Posted: 07 Jul 2021 03:23 AM PDT I have a few friends that make leather goods and marble items and can export them to me for a low cost. I wanna turn this into an online business through Amazon or my own site. I've searched up leather goods items on Amazon and there are so many people selling things like gloves. I'm looking for advice on what I can do with the items I have access to. Should I start selling different leather and marble items on Amazon and see what sticks? Is there a demand for certain leather items thats not being met? What are some resources or any general advice you y'all have? Thank you in advance! [link] [comments] |

Posted: 06 Jul 2021 06:51 PM PDT Hi All, I am planning on starting a jewelry business. I will not be selling online but will be hosting pop-up style events throughout the year where the consumer can come and purchase my jewelry. There is a service component as I will customize the jewelry on the spot, etc. What kinds of license would this require? I am seeing a bunch of different things. I will technically be operating out of multiple cities in my county and will not have a designated brick & mortar location. Any help would be great. [link] [comments] |
Do custom sized products cost more, on Alibaba? Posted: 07 Jul 2021 12:42 AM PDT I want to have a range of sizes for my pants business and so I'd need custom measurements. Would that mean I'd have to pay more than the cost for the sizes that they already have? Their unit price is $17 and custom sample is $50. Does that mean I'd pay $50 per custom size pants? I want to get 2 pairs for each size, I'm not really sure what this means. [link] [comments] |
Free programs for e-signatures Posted: 06 Jul 2021 02:03 PM PDT Hi Everybody! I was wondering if there are any programs out there that are free that can help me get e-signatures on some PDF contracts. I need my clients to sign a couple documents but everything that I have been looking at charges a monthly fee. Is there any free ones or do I need to suck it up and pay for a monthly subscription? Much appreciated. [link] [comments] |
Teenager wanting to start a small business Posted: 06 Jul 2021 10:52 PM PDT Hi. As the title states, I'm a teenager who wants to start her own small business. My products are all handmade (macrame, tie dye, etc.) so naturally I'm looking to start on Etsy. My plan is to grow a customer base, then create and slowly transfer to my own website. Facing this head-on is pretty crazy, and I'm really lacking a role model (or really anyone in my life who owns a business). Does anyone have tips on starting a business? And is there anybody who could spell out a list of priorities for me to work on before jumping into this? Thank you so much for your time! [link] [comments] |
What’s a good alternative to Dropbox? Posted: 06 Jul 2021 10:04 PM PDT I've been using Dropbox for years now to store my business files and have them available on a variety of devices. But I'm looking to cut my business expenses. What are some good, affordable alternatives? [link] [comments] |
Posted: 06 Jul 2021 09:35 PM PDT I put together this calculator, feel free to use it and adapt it as you need if it works for you... however, I am seeking feedback. Do you agree that this, while a little oversimplified, is a good guide? Have I done this correctly? ( https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1uSctUMcloWkAmIRqMuUzBlnWLzk60Rb_tKxlHHqBdf0/edit?usp=sharing Why I'm sharing this: I was very active in my BNI* group for 3 years (brought a visitor each week as well as two one-to-one meetings). passed the occasional referral as often as I could, as did my visitors... This ROI knowledge prompted me to quit it. Suffice to say that the ROI the group was giving me was woefully negative. \(BNI is a membership driven networking group - Google BNI for details)* TLDR: Do you agree this is how I should treat my time spent on marketing? Also, sharing this in the hope this helps others too... In small business you need to know all these things up front. The concept of ROI crystallised for me too late to objectively appraise whether I should join a group like this. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 06 Jul 2021 09:27 PM PDT Good day, I'm looking for some small business advice relating to a UK real estate company that has overseas holdings. Questions related to tax, financing and business development. If anyone happens to have any good idea about who I could talk to relating to the above it would be highly appreciated. Many thanks. Can’t get past the naming phase Posted: 06 Jul 2021 07:19 PM PDT I have spent WEEKS looking for the perfect name. I got so frustrated recently I even paid someone close to $100 on fiverr to help me. I got 8 names and I hate all of them. This has stopped me from getting started because I can't really do much without a name. How do you get out of this phase? Any advice you can give me? I'm desperate to move on from this stage so I can get my business going. [link] [comments] |
Digital Marketing Agency- Lead Generation Help Posted: 06 Jul 2021 06:38 PM PDT Hello everyone, I figured I'd post here for those that may be interested. I run a DM agency and am more than happy to discuss with any business owners how we go about things. And just to be clear, I'm willing to discuss your business and see if I know of any ways to help further grow your business or generate leads. Sure, if you don't want to do it yourself, I can help you out. But that's not the point at all. When I first started it was hard for me to figure out everything while wearing all the hats. I'm purely doing this as a way to help some others get things rolling like all my research and testing did for me. Feel free to message me if interested. [link] [comments] |
Inventory Management Software Needed Posted: 06 Jul 2021 09:51 AM PDT Hi all, I work for a nonprofit where I order food from Walmart, Costco, and get donations so our clients with disabilities can come with their staff member and shop. I'm looking for a simple, easy to use, inventory software system like Inflow On-Premise. I tried Inflow, but I think it's really clunky and I don't feel right having my company pay the $400 for an outdated, unsupported program. We cannot afford any subscription based software either. Free/Open source is preferred but if it is affordable and a one time cost, that is okay with us as well. Our clients do not pay for anything, so we would not have to keep track of how much everything costs. We just want to know how much stock we have, add to our stock when we order, and deduct it with sale type bills (like Inflow does). We need it for auditing reasons so we can show how much food we gave to each house. Thanks so much for any suggestions you guys have. :) [link] [comments] |
How would you go about getting dedicated labor work? Posted: 06 Jul 2021 08:49 AM PDT Hello all, Currently have a moving company that needs dedicated work for crews, would love to know how people would go about securing contracts or if you guys know of any jobs we can do with our trucks to generate more income/hours for our crews. Please let me know as I have been pulling my hair out trying to find something. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 06 Jul 2021 01:46 PM PDT Hello, I am in the process of launching a womenswear clothing line, but I am having a hard time reaching and finding quality manufacturers. I know many people don't like sharing their manufacturers but if anyone can assist me I would greatly appreciate it! I don't mind if they are overseas or in the US. [link] [comments] |
