I hired an answering service, and it might be the best thing I’ve ever done.

    Posted: 08 Jul 2021 04:51 PM PDT

I just wanted to post here because I know a lot of you are like me, in the fact that you are the whole, or at least a very large part, of your business.

I've hired sales people in the past, but nobody could ever do what I do. It was always just to alleviate the pressure of constantly having to answer the phone and getting side tracked from more important tasks.

And as we all know, if you just ignore the calls, you'll very likely just lose the business.

So the other day I'm driving, and I'm listening to this radio ad for the 300th time, and I have an epiphany… that's me, I'm the one that needs that service.

So I called them and got set up, which was so incredibly easy. I expected to need to train and verse them, but I provided a few FAQ's, and what information I'd like them to collect, and that was it.

Since then I have been taking calls when I'm free, and forwarding calls to them when I'm tied up.

    Total. Game changer.

I get these notifications now telling me who called, what they were calling about, and when/how to get in contact with them.

It's like a weight has been lifted off my shoulders, and I feel like there's probably a few of you here who could probably benefit from the same thing.

Plus it's very affordable. Only a few hundred dollars a month, which seems like a total bargain if your compare it to hiring someone dedicated to doing it for you.

I left out which service I used since it would look like a promotion for them, which this is not at all, even though it kind of is since it's been so helpful for me already.

TLDR: hired an answering service and I'm in love.

Friend has a small business and is getting a bunch of fake one star reviews

    Posted: 08 Jul 2021 07:08 AM PDT

Basically my friend let someone go cause of something unethical they did and that person is pissed. Suddenly in one day there's 6 one star reviews. Is there anyway to handle this? My friend doesn't even take on that many clients for that to be real people

Do you get paid from operating company or holding company?

    Posted: 09 Jul 2021 03:54 AM PDT

Let's say you and your friend own three LLCs taxed as a partnership. One sells toys, another furniture, and the third jewelry. You want to create a holding company. You transfer 100% ownership of each operating company to the holding company which is 100% owned by you and your friend.

Now the operating companies pay the holding company and now are you paid from the holding company?

What if you only transfer 50% of each operating company to the holding company? Where would you get paid from then?

Correct me if I'm wrong, but the operating companies are the ones that "do" the tax reports while the holding company just has the tax reports of the operating companies added together. And there's something else I'm missing. What is the holding company taxed on?

    "Preparing Products for FBA"

    Posted: 08 Jul 2021 11:01 PM PDT

I am watching the Seller University series designed to get me up and running with FBA.

At https://sellercentral.amazon.com/learn/ I search in "FBA" and i see in the menu on the left,

"Introduction to FBA, Policies and services". There are a number of videos in the series:

    "How FBA Works"

    "Converting Your Products to FBA"

    "Preparing Products for FBA"

And this is where I am stuck. The video, "Preparing Products for FBA" on mentions a page to

go to without explaining how to reach this page. Any advice?

How do I know what part of processing my SBA WOSB application is in?

    Posted: 08 Jul 2021 04:48 PM PDT

I submitted my WOSB initial application Feb 02, 2021. I just received an email stating that I needed to update a response to something. So I did. When should I expect to hear back? What does the process look like after this? It has taken FOREVER - their website is a flop and I am truly confused. On top of that there was a message that said

"Greetings WOSB program applicant. Thank you for your patience during this transition to implement a new formal certification process for the WOSB Federal Contracting Program. We have recently rolled out a technical fix to our system that will improve customer experience with our program's application. 1. Due to these updates, SBA is resetting your application. 2. We have retained your initial responses and supporting documentation. 3. However, you will need to re-enter your application and review your responses again to recomplete each section. Please review these instructions so that we may complete processing of your firm's application. Again, we appreciate your understanding. If you experience any technical issues, please submit a help ticket to: beta.certify.sba.gov/help"

This is bullshit. Does anyone know anything at all??? Please help.

SBA Tells me in writing that 4506-T Optional

    Posted: 08 Jul 2021 09:36 PM PDT

    Check it out;

    Hi SBA PERSON,

    For the record you mislabeled my loan number as 000xxxxxxxxxx, my loan number is xxxxxxxxx. So, that basically tells me something is messed up there. I even listed the subject as;

    URGENT:xxxxxxxxxx.

In regards to what you list. After I got the decline I emailed you guys to not accept the reason for the decline. The only item missing was the information from the IRS after 3-4 months waiting. The letter is listed below, I copied Ms. Guzman, Mr. Griffin, Mr. Kong, Mr. Rivera, and within 2-3 days received an invitation to the portal.

I was reinvited. But it did not work. Thus I emailed you about two weeks ago.. Now, I wait another two more weeks until anyone even sees this note. Since the only issue with my file was the IRS delay and the IRS providing incorrect information, now you just told me the IRS form is OPTIONAL?

" If you would like us to consider tax information, please submit a copy of your most recent Federal tax return and a signed IRS Form 4506-T.aspx?pt=Home&sp=1). Any request for reconsideration must include documentation addressing the reason for decline. ".

I received the 2020 EIDL, the two PPP loans. You have my 2019 Tax form. And you have the 2020 numbers showing the nearly 99% decline in revenue. If you take a moment and look at the correct loan, you will see it's all there, I would not have gone this far without it, In fact your own attorney said " All the paperwork looks good, you do not have to provide anything else. ".

And now since your saying an additional 4506-T submittal is optional, I would rather skip that 2-3 mth wait and go with what I have originally submitted.

    blah..blah..blah

    HR - Outsource or In-house?

    Posted: 08 Jul 2021 05:30 PM PDT

I serve as a mentor to small businesses through the non-profit SCORE and often have owners who want to hire their first employee look for advice on whether to do it themselves or seek out a payroll company to handle the HR side of things. For those of you who have gone either route, what was your experience and how did you execute? What were the pros and cons of each? I am looking to provide clients a balanced perspective to enable them to choose the right course for their situation.

Super Nerd Question: Does anyone have a shipping scale that they don't hate?

    Posted: 08 Jul 2021 05:22 PM PDT

Reddit is full of posting about scaling your business, but all I want is a shipping scale that works!

I've been using a $25 ACCUTECK scale for years, and it's fine, but sometimes the numbers jump around like crazy, and I can't figure out how to stop it. I'll move it around the room in case there's interference, smack it a few times, and eventually it works again.

Yesterday I said enough is enough, and I ordered a $50 scale from Amazon. This thing is a total piece of crap. It can't seem to weigh anything accurately under 1lb, which is the majority of my shipments.

So, now I'm on a mission! Here are my needs:

    1. Can weigh things that are less than a pound
    2. Displays in OZ (accurate to .1 oz) and grams
    3. Has a remote display so I can read it when weighing large boxes
    4. Small footprint
    5. Numbers don't jump around
    6. Would like to spend $100 or less

C'mon Reddit. Help me out here! Do you love (or at least not hate) your shipping scale?

Question about address listing for an LLC in ohio

    Posted: 08 Jul 2021 08:51 PM PDT

Hi all, I'm starting up an LLC in Ohio to enter into a joint venture agreement 60/40 split with a CA based freight brokerage.

I've determined that I would like to use a service to act as a registered agent for my company, I'm thinking Zen business

My questions is, is it recommended to get a PO Box address to use for the actual LLC address on the application instead of using my own, even if I have a registered agent? Would this address be made public record, or just the address of the registered agent?

How Do You Approach Business Service?

    Posted: 08 Jul 2021 08:47 PM PDT

So I've been thinking more about how to find and collect more information on our competitors and the industry. One of the services I had considered was Dun & Bradstreet's information-related services.

I was wondering how y'all approached learning and gathering information about the industry? I run a software agency and getting those kinds of details is very hard in my experience. I'd be interested in hearing about what it's like for other businesses.

Edit: Misspelled the title, obviously meant intelligence. But I can't edit it

    Reimbursing Self from Business ?

    Posted: 08 Jul 2021 08:46 PM PDT

    Hi all,

Currently opening a cafe. I am filing as an LLC ( S-Corp ) as when the business is open I will be taking a salary. I have a separate business bank account and have been diligently using and tracking all receipts. However, during the initial starting point I paid with my "own" money various items like the filing fee for the LLC, website etc whilst waiting for my bank account to be finalized. These are not huge costs but should I be "expensing" them to the business and paying myself back? Or is it best to just leave it alone?

    Thanks

Coffee Side Project - How might I approach marketing content for this?

    Posted: 08 Jul 2021 08:07 PM PDT

My main enterprise is a design and marketing service company. Last year I purchased a local coffee brand that was struggling with the intent to turn it around.

Almost a year later, I've relaunched it. New ecommerce site, a new and delicious product, Facebook & Instagram followings around 300 apiece, about 40 emails on my list. Online only, no retail locations or coffee stands.

The few people who've bought love the product, and I have coffee subscriptions ready to sell.

The problem is that the first week of relaunch has been so slow. I wasn't expecting much but hoping for more than one sale. I'm already running on a shoestring budget and I'm hesitant to start experimenting with paid media just yet.

I'm used to content marketing in my services business, and I know how to add value in that market. In coffee though, I don't know what to put in my content regularly that will be entertaining or useful, not just pitching product every day.

    Thoughts? Ideas? TIA
