Posted: 09 Jul 2021 06:31 PM PDT Is this going to be reported to the insurance company regardless? Or is it better to just deal privately? I was also driving my fiancées car (which I am not insured under) when this happened. the guy slammed on the breaks and I rear ended them lightly but caused a notable dent. This happened in NY and the 'damage' is probably less than $1000 [link] [comments] |
Posted: 09 Jul 2021 11:55 PM PDT I was driving in a busy intersection when a husky ran into the road and smacked the side of my car. My car has a dent on the rear door and a streak. This happened in Hollywood on Santa Monica Blvd. The lady with the dog said the boy who was with her was the one holding the leash. The boy was about 8 years old. I got the owners information and was wondering what the next step should be. [link] [comments] |
What resources do I have to deal with insurance and delay? Posted: 09 Jul 2021 09:25 PM PDT My rental house had water damage back in May. In Charlotte, NC. I filed a claim with my insurance since 5/20. A water mitigation company came out to stop the leak and removed affected areas, which are the carpets in 2 bedrooms, part of carpet in the hall, removed toilet and the flooring in the bathroom. A restoration company sent my insurance a $12k estimate for repair. My insurance also sent an estimator out to check for repair estimate. The insurance estimator said it's about $5700. The insurance company sent me a check for $3k based on that estimate so I can use it as deposit for repair. The restoration company refused the insurance estimator's $5700 estimate. It's in negotiation with my insurance adjustor. The adjustor had sent him an amendment to remove things from the estimate. The restoration company did remove the things insurance adjustor rejected and sent it back to her. However, she kept saying that she has not received it. It's been over 2 weeks. The restoration company guy said he sent it. The adjustor said she has not received it. I'm really frustrated with the process. Today, the mitigation company told me that insurance hasn't paid them. My adjustor told me that part of the $3000 they sent me included water mitigation. They do not pay the mitigation company directly. I don't think that is fair. The water mitigation bill is almost $3000. This means that the $5700 estimate was really only $2700 for repair, which is not enough at all. I'm very frustrated with the claim process and ready to throw in the towel. But I really do not think it's fair at all. My lease ends this month so my tenant will move out. I cannot rent it out again until the house is fixed. I already gave the tenant half month off in rent. I was told that I can't claim that if I give half month of. My questions are: 1. Should I get a second company to get second estimate? 2. Should I get public adjustor? Or a lawyer? 3. Shouldn't the insurance company pay for the water mitigation separately? 4. Can I ask for loss of rent based on half rent off which I gave this month? Thank you. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 09 Jul 2021 02:11 PM PDT I got hit by another driver and was in a rush to start the claim process and they offered me a settlement on the phone on a recorded call and I accepted it. However, I went to the doctor because I started to notice pain and got sent to physical therapy. The insurance just sent me a release form and will be mailing my settlement check in the mail. The release forms states once I sign it I'm closing the settlement and all claims and accepting there offer for my property damage settlement and injury settlement. I haven't signed any of the paperwork and was wondering if I could back out or renegotiate? Maybe obtaining a attorney would be the best route. Can I change my mind on a settlement offer without signing anything? [link] [comments] |
insurance payment from escrow possibly lost in mail Posted: 10 Jul 2021 02:07 AM PDT Fla. Polk county here. Well technically not lost yet because the insurance policy due date is the 15th of july so there's still a little time. They sent me an email saying they had sent my insurance co. the payment (my premium on renewal policy) on the 25th of June but it hasn't arrived. Called the mortgage company they gave me the number of the bulk check they sent out through regular mail which hasn't arrived. A 92k check of which my part was -2k. We did a 3 way calling with the insurance co. to let them know they details. My mortgage company offered to send them an overnighter from my escrow(not enough funds there) and that afterwards all I'd need to do is wait for the check from my insurance company and put that money back into the escrow. But the question is, what If I do the overnight payment and the insurance company never gets the check sent to them because it was lost in the mail? How do I recover the lost funds? thanks for your time everybody. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 09 Jul 2021 07:45 PM PDT Was on the receiving end of a jet ski accident (not my fault), and unfortunately suffered some serious injuries racking up hundreds of thousands in medical bills. The jet skis were not mine, they were my friends, but they were insured, and the jet ski owners as well as my family have home owners insurance, health insurance, etc. Where my worry stems from is I received a call from Progressive (his insurance for the jet skis) saying they're only going to pay up $10,000 worth of injuries. This total is far less than my medical bills and is even under the minimum liability insurance for my state (MN). Are other insurances such as my/jet ski owners home insurance going to step in or am I going to have to declare bankruptcy? [link] [comments] |
When do I file a claim? Renters Insurance - Property Damage Posted: 09 Jul 2021 06:32 PM PDT I made a post earlier this week and deleted it. However, since then I think I need to file a claim, but not sure when to. For context, I have Lemonade Renters Insurance. summary of facts: water was shutoff in my apartment complex for a couple days due to an emergency pipe fix at the complex. I had plugged my kitchen sink with a stopper to prevent any bugs from crawling up my drain because I had dirty dishes in my sink and I was leaving town for the next 4 days. The water came back on while I was away and flooded my apartment for about 3 hours. I don't know how the sink faucet was open. Maintenance went into my apartment and had a crew come out to remove the water and drilled holes into my walls and removed baseboards. They also rented fans and a dehumidifier for 7 days. Water also entered into my neighbors apartment and the hallway outside. Holes had to be drilled there too. My apartment claims there is around $4k in damages so far (will very likely increase) and need to file a claim against my insurance because their insurance doesn't cover this. My policy with Lemonade has 100k personal liability coverage, but doesn't cover damage to the apartment property. There is a provision that says they'll pay up to $1000 for damage to others people's property. Not sure if that can be used here. The incident happened a week ago and I didn't know the severity of the damage until Monday since I was told everything was probably okay from the apartment. I haven't attempted to file a claim yet because I didn't think I was at fault here since there was no water in my apartment and I don't recall leaving the faucet open since there was no water for me to use anyway. I'm not sure when to try to file a claim with Lemonade because the repairs aren't completed yet and I don't have a bill or anything to show damages or cost of repair/replacement. I know the claim will be denied for the personal liability coverage but I'm hoping that they'll cover at least $1000 if the apartment's insurance actually doesn't cover this first. Any advice? This is in Texas. [link] [comments] |
I was at fault in an accident and neither insurance covered damage what’s next? Posted: 09 Jul 2021 05:54 PM PDT I was declared at fault by police in an accident recently. My insurance company informed me that I was not concerned for the accident nor was I covered for the damages to the other persons car. They also said that they assumed the other person must not have had coverage because they called them. My insurance company said that sometimes people force the person that hit their car to pay for damages of their insurances cannot. Is that what I will have to do? How long before time runs out for that person to get their money? I live in Michigan. [link] [comments] |
Claims adjuster is unhelpful or, at the very least, incompetent Posted: 09 Jul 2021 04:15 PM PDT I just want to say this right off the bat, I understand it's probably a high stress job dealing with high strung people. However, I don't think my adjuster is doing everything they can to help me or is, at the very least, incompetent. Context: I was in an alleged accident sometime ago in March. Alleged because I'm not even sure if I hit the car or not. The other driver called out to me and said I had transferred paint to her right back wheel when I had changed lanes. We exchanged information and went on our separate ways. I got a call from the adjuster a few weeks later asking about the accident. I told her I was in the third lane of a 5 lane street trying to go left when a car drove by me. She told me that she needed pictures of my left rear view mirror because if it wasn't damaged it proved I didn't hit their car. I send her the pictures and she tells me after she received them that the pictures didn't matter because I had indicated I was changing lanes so I was at fault. I don't hear back from her for 2 months and then she calls me to inform me that the total payout is $1300 dollars. For a paint transfer. I asked her to recheck the information because that can't be right. She goes silent for a few minutes and then tells me she got the price wrong. It was actually $150 for the payout. We both hang up and I think that's the end of that. Then, a couple of weeks ago(4 months since the accident, 2 months since her last correspondence) I receive a bill from my insurance with the $1300 tacked on. I called my adjuster to ask about it and she told me that she had gotten her recheck wrong and just didn't tell me about it. She then proceeded to tell me there was nothing i can do now because I had already been considered at fault. It is then I learn that the other driver had told her that she was in the far right lane of a 3 lane street and I was coming out of a parking lot. I dispute that our testimonies are completely different but she says it doesn't matter? How do I even deal with someone like this? California, LA area [link] [comments] |
Posted: 09 Jul 2021 11:29 PM PDT Has anyone worked for USAA in the claims department who has knowledge of their claim practices? Reason I ask is I am helping a friend on an Uninsured Motorists claim and they are completely undervaluing the claim value to the point it could be considered bad faith. Especially with a pro se insured. Just curious. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 09 Jul 2021 07:11 PM PDT Should I report hail damage to my vehicle? I know it is covered because I have comprehensive. The car is worth over 5k. My concern is they will raise my rates for the next 3 years and that rate increase will exceed the amount they give me for it. Or they will only give me something if I agree to give them the car. Or by simply calling and telling them they will raise my rates or drop me even if I refuse to file a claim. I have State Farm. I am in USA. Pretty light hail damage (no busted windows). Any advice? Dishwasher flooded apartment. Apartment management says I'm responsible! Posted: 09 Jul 2021 02:03 PM PDT Hello! I was at work and got a call from my apartment management that my apartment is flooded with water from dishwasher. I had no damage in my apartment other than wet floor than needed to be dried with fans. Apartment maintenance guy told that the pipe that connects dishwasher to water inlet spontaneously broke and flooded my apartment. This dishwasher was existing and installed by the apartment and not by me. However, the neighbor living below me had water leak through the roof and some damage to furniture. I do not know the extent of their damage, but I'm assuming it's not a lot. I got a notification from my rental insurance company (Travelers) that the neighbor filed a claim against my insurance. On further inquiry, it appears that the neighbor never actually wanted to file a claim against me, but was pushed in that direction by our apartment management for the damages. My insurance company denied the claim as they deemed it wasn't my fault that led to the flooding but rather it's the apartment management's fault. 1) Is this common for apartment management to claim using tenant's policy instead of them taking responsibility? 2) Am I in any way responsible for this? 3) Any advice on what should I do next? Location: Arkansas Thank you! [link] [comments] |
Could my weightlifting injury be classified as an accident for insurance? Posted: 09 Jul 2021 09:59 AM PDT Several months ago I got hurt doing deadlifts in the gym, and I recently paid out-of-pocket for some physical therapy to help me recover (about $400 if that is relevant). I'm also having to pay about $500 for an xray. My insurance has a "Blanket Accident Certificate Claim Form" that I am hoping will help me with the therapy costs, etc. But because I basically had the workout accident during my leisure time at the gym and not at work I am wondering if the insurance company would consider it a real "accident" and pay. There wasn't any equipment malfunction in the gym or anything, just bad luck really. Thank you for any help! EDIT - The accident occurred in Georgia, but I have since moved to Alabama where I got the xray and physical therapy. EDIT II - Sorry, I am apparently horrible at providing relevant details. A lot of the minutia of insurance is alien to me. It was a severe muscle/tendon tear and I am asking about Health Insurance that I pay for, not an employer. I got the insurance through US Health Group, which I guess is underwritten by Freedom Life Insurance Company of America. The injury occurred in an LA Fitness that I was a member of. I got into a car accident with an under insured driver while being under insured, am I doomed? Posted: 09 Jul 2021 08:50 PM PDT I got into a collision with another driver and totaled my car. To add to that this happened in the wonderful "no fault state" of Michigan. I have PIP auto isurance through State Farm and my adjuster said they won't cover any of the damages due to my lack of coverage. He said I could either go after the other driver's insurance company, Esurance, to make an UMPD claim, or small claims court. I contacted Esurance and they told me that the other driver basically has the same PIP coverage that only covers property damage and not collision damage and because of that I can't file a claim against him. So, is there really nothing I can do to get either mine or his insurance to help me pay for a new vehicle? I'm not going through the useless, slow, and expensive lawsuit route. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 09 Jul 2021 02:07 PM PDT Hello Reddit! Here is my situation. About 9 months ago I went to a dermatologist with my mother and we both got special compound medication prescribed. At the pharmacy they ran it through insurance and got rejected. Back then I didn't know of the pre-authorization process so we paid cash. We refilled it multiple times and it all came out to $1200. Months after I realized I can go back and file reimbursement. I did it for both of us and got $200 back but there is still $ on the table, most likely $500-$700. I was told I need to go through the pre authorization process which I did, and it took great effort making my doctor do this. It seems as tough the nurses in the doctors office are very unpleased to do this - as I am assuming they don't want their time to be taken by this since they already made their money and are looking to get new patients to make more money since they are a private clinic. I was also told and experienced this in person that this doctor comes in, looks at you for 2 min, prescribes you the drugs, and keeps moving on to the next patient, as the more patients he sees the more he makes. Anyways, the pre authorization got denied partly because the doctor office didn't respond to a fax of additional information that was sent over to them. So I called insurance got doctor office on the line and they said they will fax them the docs for an appeal. This seems very time consuming and energy wasted, as I have to keep checking on my doctors office if they are doing the work and have to go through all this process to have MedImpact insurance approve these drugs as they are giving me a hard time since I am guessing they would obviously like to keep more $ in their pocket. Would love to hear any thoughts on how I can go about this! [link] [comments] |
Had to pay the estimate cost before surgery. Is that included in my EOB total? Posted: 09 Jul 2021 07:41 PM PDT |
Posted: 09 Jul 2021 09:19 AM PDT So I'm in a bit of a predicament. I have a very shitty driving record (1 accident in Sept 2016, 2 in Feb 2019, and 1 in Feb 2021). The big issue is that my current policy expires on 8/1, and my current company chose not to renew it. I've been speaking to a couple of independent agents and they weren't able to get me a new quote due to underwriting. What can I do in this situation? Any recommendations for companies I should try? Or if I can get some amount of coverage until that one accident falls off my record in September? Do I keep trying independent agents or try calling the companies directly at this point? I'm in NJ so legally I need to have auto insurance and I'm starting to get concerned that no one will cover me. [link] [comments] |

Should I stay working in Insurance? Posted: 09 Jul 2021 05:43 PM PDT I posted this in the Insurance Agent subreddit, but I thought I'd post here to cast a wider net. Any advice is appreciated even if you yourself haven't worked in insurance; In fact, advice from a consumer might be helpful in steering clear of a bad company. I'm currently working in Customer Service at an Independent Agency. I'm trying to figure out my next move. I'm not sure if the Agent route is the route I should go. I'm currently licensed in P&C and Life (I'm not licensed in health). I've just been pigeonholed in my current position and am not learning anymore insurance related things- particularly I'm not learning any agency level things anymore. I'm thinking about getting on with a captive agency (leaning towards State Farm) because I think the structure and having to only work with one carrier would help me. Does anyone have any input? My main concerns are that I don't want to be put in a position that is too much pressure on the sales (because I do not have hardly any sales experience-I may can be trained to get better) and I'm looking to be a professional at something (28F, I'm running out of time) and have a career. Edit: I'm in the United States, Tennessee [link] [comments] |
For the producers on here, has anyone used CompuCram to prepare for their licensing test? Posted: 09 Jul 2021 05:07 PM PDT I have my NJ Producer exam tomorrow and I was wondering if anyone on here has used CompuCram to prepare for their licensing exam, and if so, did you pass on the first try? I've been taking the Simulated Exams and have gotten in the 80s at least four times but I have gotten in the 70s a couple times as well. Since I did get at least three 80% scores, I would qualify for the refund if I failed but still, I don't want to have to go through the trouble of retaking. Just seeing how everyone on here prepared for their exam. Thank you! [link] [comments] |
Stolen car found after insurance payout Posted: 09 Jul 2021 12:33 PM PDT What happens here? Insurance actually paid out at least 2x what I would have expected the car to be worth and we already sent them the title. Can they take back the payout, or reevaluate the cost of the car and charge us the difference? [link] [comments] |
At fault driver claims he is not at fault Posted: 09 Jul 2021 11:10 AM PDT WA State. I was in an accident 7/2. I was stopped at a red light. My light turned green, meaning the people turning left opposite me had a green light, not green arrow. Someone turned left in front of me anyways, I stopped and honked and continued. The second person then turned left in front of me as well and we collided. Ive talked to both insurance companies, my insurance ruled the other driver at fault, and his insurance ruled me at fault. He said he had a green arrow and I ran a red light and hit him. I called my insurance and they'll be opening up an investigation, but said it could take months and I could possibly be found at fault (even though i am 100% sure I had a green light and the other driver is at fault and my insurance stands by their rulint). I have no idea what to do, this is my first ever accident. What will happen if they somehow rule me at fault? My car insurance will go up, but what else? [link] [comments] |
Posted: 09 Jul 2021 12:52 PM PDT Hello all I am a bit lost… are one of you claim manager for an insurance company ? A friend of a friend was not insured and his house went fire. The house of the neighbor also took fire. This friend of a friend is breaking up with his girlfriend. They purchased the house together. My friends friend (not me !) wants to buy back the house. The girlfriend agreed to sell but one of the condition set in the contract with the notary is that the insurance of the neighbor doesn't sue her. The damage of the house has been estimated by the insurer. The amount claimed by the insurance has been paid by my friends friend. However, the insurance doesn't want to give a paper saying that the insurance will close the car nor a paper stating they will only sue my friends friend in case of issue. Is that normal ? Are there any work around ? I am a bit helpless… [link] [comments] |
Posted: 09 Jul 2021 12:04 PM PDT I have a friend how just got his life and disability insurance in Canada. I warned him about lying in the application but he did it anyways beachfront I didn't have enough "evidence " thats what I am say is true. So my friend's dad has brain cancer and has the specific cancer gene. So when he did his application with the insurance, he said that he is estranged with his dad and know nothing about his medical history. Is it ok for him to do that? Will this affect his insurance/ benefit if he got the cancer or the genetic test for the cancer was positive? Do they investigate after the person to know if he is telling the truth or not?
