Am I entitled to a rental when my car is being repaired? (Pennsylvania)

    Posted: 04 Jul 2021 06:10 PM PDT

My parked car was crashed into so the other person was at fault and I have all their insurance info. While my car is being repaired which may take weeks, is the other driver's insurance required to provide me with a rental car? I've been spending half my paycheck on Ubers and I'm getting frustrated. I'm only 19 so my parents are dealing with the insurance but they said there aren't any rentals available or that they're too expensive. We have Nationwide they have something called General insurance

Insurance adjuster writes "I'm not convinced"

    Posted: 04 Jul 2021 07:16 PM PDT

    Country: USA

    State: CA

    Region: Bay area

While I was away on a 2-week trip, my rental house flooded due to a failed tube underneath the kitchen sink. The kitchen floor was ruined, along with the bottom floor of the house where our home office and exercise equipment was. Luckily, I had neighbors come every few days to bring in packages. They actually caught the leak. Our neighbors took videos of the event where it clearly shows water raining from the ceiling.

Our renter's insurance is saying they will cover some inexpensive items, but not others (such as our peloton ($1800) and herman miller Aeron chair ($1500) ).

The response the adjuster wrote was:"Please call Peloton at 866-679-9129 and ask for a technician to diagnose your Peloton. If it can be repaired I will pay for the repair or the tech stats it is not reparable then I will pay for replacement. As for the Aeron chair, I am not convinced the chair was damaged by water. I feel the people moving the chair and broke it should be held responsible for the damage."

Our property management team did not break the chair, we trust them, and in addition, our neighbors also can attest that the lumbar support of the chair cracked probably due to water damage and extreme temperature changes in the Bay Area (bay area ranges from 50-90 degrees some days).

Any suggestions for how to respond to this adjuster? I'm pretty annoyed because our policy covers up to $200,000 of damage, and we just want the $3-$5k amount of stuff that was damaged while we were away.

TL;DR - insurance adjuster is saying chair damaged from flood was not the result of flood, but rather property management company, but I was away on vacation when flood and repairs happened.

    Progressive claim adjuster trainee questions

    Posted: 04 Jul 2021 09:36 AM PDT

Hi guys I recently did the hirevue video interview (honestly have mixed feelings of if I did well or not) how long did it take to hear back from them about next steps? Also, if I do pass do I have to do another interview in person? I saw some people had to do three interviews or do the video then an in person. But my friend was just recently hired for the position and I think she just did the video. How common is it to do just one interview?

P.s. I never want to do a recorded interview again in my life. It was 10x more nerve racking than face-to-face.

    College Health Insurance

    Posted: 04 Jul 2021 09:33 PM PDT

Hey everyone, so i have a question for the military folks here.

I'm a beneficiary for my dads medical insurance, 21 turning 22 this month. Currently I'm on the Tricare Student plan, and at the time i enrolled i was a full time student.

I'm going home for the summer break and with that, getting my military ID renewed. They're asking for a proof of enrollment, but since I'm on summer break, I'm not sure what they'd be checking for. Along with that, i was planning on taking a semester off this upcoming fall (my school does 3 semesters instead of 2).

For my health insurance, i have a few concerns. I haven't been a full time student for 2 semesters now, but when i enrolled i was taking a full load. I also paid for a years worth of enrollment fees when i did apply for health insurance.

So i guess my concern is, am i still covered? If i don't enroll for fall semester, will i even be able to get my ID, and medical insurance?

Do I even need an agent?

    Posted: 04 Jul 2021 12:32 PM PDT

Not sure if this is a dumb question. Would I save money by ditching my agent?

I've had a Traveler's homeowners policy for years (California). My original agent sold his business years ago and I never talked to the new guys, just kept renewing every year. They've since sold again, and I don't even recognize the broker name on my policy, and they're not even in the same city as me anymore. I've gotten competitive quotes over the years, but the current coverage I have is still, as far as I know, my best option.

Now I have a question about adding jewelry coverage and either need to talk to Travelers directly or contact my agent for the first time. I'd like to use this moment as an opportunity to either ditch my agent, find a new one, or maybe just keep them.

Would I save any money by dealing directly with Travelers, or do they require me to have an agent? If I'm required to have an agent, should I try to move my policy to someone local, or just deal with whomever is listed as my agent, even though they've never contacted me?

Question about renters insurance and getting married

    Posted: 04 Jul 2021 07:06 PM PDT

    Location: Seattle WA

My partner is currently living with me in the house I own, and has renters insurance. We are planning to get married soon. They will not be on the lease or deed. Will the homeowners insurance apply to them and their possessions, or should they continue to maintain a renters policy?

Do you think insurance will cover exogenous ochronosis (pigment disorder) caused as a result of hydroquinone given to me by a dermatologist?

    Posted: 04 Jul 2021 09:54 AM PDT

    This is my insurance: https://docs.ucare.org/filer_public/f5/00/f500c731-d748-4f03-a8b3-36ec48671444/reconstructive-cosmetic_health_services.pdf

My doctor gave me hydroquinone to use for my melasma, it pretty much gave me EXTREMELY dark pigment on the areas I applied it to, now I have to spend $1,000+ just to look like a normal woman.

It has degraded my quality of life significantly and they didn't educate me on how there was a possibility it would darken my skin because I have a dark complexion. Do you think I can get my insurance to foot the bill on paying for lasers and chemical peels for my skin? I'm not posting a picture, but it's a very dark pigmented splotch on my face.

Edit: Not surprised this was downvoted, you can't cover up my dark splotches with makeup since it's dermal pigment and it's still here after a year of tretinion. My skin was permanently damaged by the crap my doctor gave to me, this isn't some minor thing, it's like having a very public birthmark that takes up part of your face.

I can not drive cause I am not put into the family's car insurance, I read something about being a "permissive driver" and wondering if that can apply to me, however since I live under the household, I don't think it does. Furthermore, I really want to be able to drive a few times this summer. Also I'm 18 we have 3 cars on the insurance (however we are surrendering one as I am writing this), and Im just curious if yall can help me.

Queation about contents insurance in australia

    Posted: 04 Jul 2021 05:19 PM PDT

Im looking at getting contents insurance for the first time and trying to calculate how much to get.

I saw on reddit a few years go where a inslsurance adjuster posted about how to get the most out of a claim. What he was saying (from memory) was that when you get insurance, you need to be a bit vague about what you have, in regards to model numbers, so they give you the better models price, or something along those lines anyway.

So my question is this, what should I do in regards to detailing what I have? Should I detail everything, or be a bit vague?

Also, regarding my PC, I brought some parts second hand and the thing still cost over 5k. Now, if I wanted to buy it all again, it would be way less, as the parts are old tech (sort of). How would that work out, would I get the price that I paid or the current value of the parts?

Same with my toolbox full of snapon tools I suppose.

Small Business with Employees in Multiple States - Only group option has benefits greatly reduced form last year. Feel like we're screwed?!?

    Posted: 04 Jul 2021 11:22 AM PDT

    Hi All,

I own a small business. Four of our employees get health insurance through our small group with United. It is (or was) a good plan. I take care of my employees as I don't want them to have to worry about staying safe or healthy.

    2020 plan:

    • Deductibles $1000/$2000
    • Copays $20 / $40
    • 90% Coinsurance

Two employees in PA, one in IL, one in MD. Written in PA. United won't let us write a group in another state because we have more employees in PA than any other state (we are 100% remote / virtual and have been for over a decade).

In 2021 they are canceling our plan and refusing to offer a comparable plan. The BEST plan they will offer me is

    • Deductibles $6000/12000
    • Copays $15 / $100
    • $70% Coinsurance

So firstly, this is total BS. I have eHealthInsurance and I asked my agent to look into what my other options are.

The only options I have are:

    1) National General. Deductibles stay the same. Coinsurance would go down to 70% and copays raise $20. Not ideal, but at least we keep deductibles reasonable. However I have read that National General determines future rates based upon claims utilization and if someone makes significant claims, we could be in big trouble come renewal. I have also heard that they make you do more of the legwork in fighting to not pay for treatments that should be covered. Sounds like a mess.

    2) Care First: Copays stay the same. Other benefits reduced slightly. Rate increase of 25%!!

So what do I do in this situation? Are their other options to explore? My priorities are:

    a) Make insurance simple for my team. I don't want them to have to fight tooth and nail with our insurance provider to have their claims covered.

    b) Keep their coverage (copays, etc.) reasonable. They shouldn't be afraid to go to the doctor due to costs.

    c) Keep things consistent. United Healthcare finds a way to raise rates and whittle away coverage every year. They are truly horrible. This year takes the cake. I also don't want to have to hop between healthcare providers each year.

Any suggestions? Is my agent playing it straight? Is there anything else I could be considering? Thanks for any advice you may have.

Why do my specialist visits have a $0 copay, based on my plan specifications?

    Posted: 04 Jul 2021 02:28 PM PDT

I'm more curious about this than anything. Basically, the information on my Florida Blue plan says that a specialist visit is "deductible + 0% coinsurance." I thought this would mean I'd have to pay towards my deductible in order to get 0% coinsurance. The plan specifically says that copayments/ coinsurance generally kick in after my deductible is met. So, is my doctor's office an exception?

I'm new to having my own policy so maybe this is a dumb question.

Why has my UK car insurance gone up so substantially more

    Posted: 04 Jul 2021 12:35 PM PDT

TL;Dr So it's just come to renewal time on my car insurance, and after a phonecall to my current provider I got it down slightly on last year, all good. So I then just thought I'd check other providers on their websites and comparison websites, and they're all unbelievably expensive (3 or 4 times what I'm currently paying).

The facts: I'm a 24yo male, clean license since 17yo, 7 years NCD, nothing ever referred to insurer except a couple of windscreen cracks along the way. Living in London with car parked on driveway, along with partner's car which I also have access to. Business use as a CAD designer, approx 5k personal, 5k business per year.

I'm currently driving a 2020 BMW 330i since January this year - a nice car for someone my age sure, but it is a 2.0 petrol engine with 258hp so nothing crazy, and all the modern safety stuff.

Currently with Admiral. When I bought it, it was midway through my policy with my previous car and only added about a couple hundred pounds for the change. The total premium for last year for the BMW would have been £950. This year at renewal they quoted £1050, I got them down to £850, all is well.

So I started shopping around as well just to see if anyone could renew cheaper, and was shocked to see Aviva (who I usually use) quote £4000. So I ran the comparison sites, and the absolute cheapest anyone would quote is about £2500. This is for a policy word for word the same as the Admiral one costing me £850.

So then I ran a comparison site check for me on my previous car, a 1.5 Honda Civic, which when I had it 2 years ago (so less driving experience and NCD) I paid £650, and they were quoting a minimum of £1300. I then even ran quotes for my partner's car, a little 1.0 Fiesta, which came back at over £1k minimum. For reference, she lives at the same address and has a similar job, but 2 years less NCD, and pays about £600. That £1k for me is more than I was paying in my 2nd year of driving for a similar car (reminder I'm now at 7 years driving and the other details have barely changed).

So I'm now paranoid there's some sort of black mark against my name or some issue causing my premiums to be quoted so high. I checked on the Gov website that my license is still all clean just in case, which it is. What could be the problem??

I've checked the summary for my current policy and it all looks correct. I'm going to be reading the full T&C's shortly. It's totally affordable and as expected for now, I'm just worried that come next renewal, or even this year, it's going to skyrocket up to like £2k + which I really don't like the sound of...

    Cheers for any advice!

Car totaled, but I plan on getting a new one by the end of the month. Should I cancel insurance on the old car?

    Posted: 04 Jul 2021 10:42 AM PDT

Car was totaled. State is Illinois. I pay every 6 months. The car was taken away, so I have no car now. Looking to get a new (well...used) car by the end of the month. I have a couple of questions:

    1. Do I simply cancel my insurance policy on the old car? Geico says, "Most states require you to surrender a vehicle's license plates prior to removing insurance from a vehicle. Please check with your state's Department of Motor Vehicles in order to avoid a possible fine." I looked at Illinois DMV, and it looks like they do NOT require it, but maybe that means for something else.

    2. Geico has an option to replace the car on the policy. Since I plan on buying a car relatively soon, is that just a quicker option? I know it's a new policy, so it wouldn't be the same, but it seems like more steps to cancel and then start a new policy within a couple weeks.

    3. Not pertaining as much to insurance, so no worries about answering. Is there anything I need to do with my registration of the (now totaled) car to the state? Like turn in the registration card or something? I just sent a form from the title that acknowledged the totaled car and sale to Geico.

    Thanks!

Does bent wheel repair go on Carfax?

    Posted: 04 Jul 2021 10:05 AM PDT

I am thinking about having insurance pay for my bent wheel repair due to hitting uneven surface on highway. This should be a relatively small repair (~$1000). I don't know if Carfax will consider this as an accident or damage on my car (IMO it shouldn't since wheel repairs are very common, just like glass repairs) and consequently hurt my car's value?

Question about “Reimbursement Provision” - damaged items in flood

    Posted: 04 Jul 2021 06:12 AM PDT

My basement had a flood and caused damage to everything I had down there. Furniture/computers/household items/etc. We have "Reimbursement provision", which to my understanding gives us full price for our items, with no depreciation. We put in our list of damaged items and estimates and they replied with their own, undervaluing our items and including depreciation.

For example: $1500 MacBook they depreciated it to $400. They will now give me a check for $400 and then I need to buy a new MacBook for $1500 and they will reimburse the $1100 difference.

    This sounds ridiculous because

    1. What if I don't have the 1100 difference to buy the MacBook? How will I get the full money back.

    2. If an item got damaged and they reimburse me for it, do I need to buy the same product again even if I don't use/want it?

Looking to see if anyone had a similar situation, and if the insurance agency is just bsing us to save money, or the just don't know the answer because this doesn't seem right.

How to get insurer to tender the limits?

    Posted: 04 Jul 2021 08:08 AM PDT

I had a water loss event with probably several gallons over several days or weeks seeping into the walls. We didn't find out until it began to seep back out. My insurance got a drying team here for free -- gods bless them. Well, now I'm trying to get the $10k limits but the adjustor is down in the $6k range, minus deductible. I'm awaiting a free professional quote for remediation, but I didn't do a $650 professional mold assessment out of pocket to shop with the remediators with. The adjustor seems to have just "eyeballed" it without a pro's assessment and, surprise surprise, says the a/c unit doesn't need to be removed and reinstalled to remedy mold in the wall behind it, where the loss occurred. He's pushing me to take their offer, begin the work, and supplement my claim as needed, which I'm sure is much harder and more uncertain than he's making it sound.

I'm going to call the adjustor back once I have my pro's remediation assessment. Any and all advice highly appreciated.

I'm trying to maximize my into-pocket and probably never remediate.

    Floriduh if it matters.

Edit: Lots of buttannihilated adjustors in the comments. Some good advice from people who know what they're talking about though. Appreciate it!

Looking to get Car Insurance/Liability Auto insurance (MN & 19)

    Posted: 03 Jul 2021 09:40 PM PDT

Hello! I have been looking around trying to figure out what company I should use for pretty decent and cheap liability insurance. Noticed in another post someone in CA apparently is/was paying about $800 a year for 250k/500k for bodily injury and 100k for property i believe?

I'd like to get something somewhat like it, Pretty much just insurance that covers me fairly decently and others property guess, I don't care if my car itself isn't protected (I don't have a car yet but plan to get one very soon, Almost 100% some late 80s-early 2000s car, Likely a Toyota, Honda or something like that.)

What should I go with to achieve these prices or something like it? I live in Minnesota. And am 19 years old.

It would be my first car I'm trying to get and I heard insurance is extremely expensive cause I'm a young adult and a male. At least from people around me lol.
