USAA Homeowners insurance premium increased 50%, is this normal? Posted: 04 Jun 2021 07:24 PM PDT In California, house less than 15 years old, zero claims ever filed. My homeowners policy premium was about $650 last year. I just received a renewal bill for $998. I see that they added a few extra coverages (without asking or telling me) but even if I adjust my policy to match exactly as it was last year, it still comes out to about $950. Is it normal to see such a huge jump in premium for no reason? Or is this part of the "sinking ship" of USAA insurance I hear people talking about? [link] [comments] |

Need help with an accident claim Posted: 04 Jun 2021 10:24 PM PDT Location is Missouri. Two days ago after eating at a restaurant, as soon as my family and I got in our vehicle the owner of the burger place slammed into one of our doors. We hadn't even started the car yet. He's clearly at fault. I got an estimate at the only collision repair place local to me, and yesterday they approved it. Today I get a call saying it's not approved because they are wanting to replace it with a scrap yard door, and the shop wants to order new to guarantee nothing is wrong with it. His insurance company is now telling me I will have to pay out of pocket if I use this shop, but I have no other options and I don't believe I should have to pay anything out of pocket. The man who hit me is even confused why they are wanting me to pay. How do I navigate this? [link] [comments] |

I wonder if the German car insurance is subsidized by the government because this type of insurance in USA will only be possible with a huge umbrella policy that will cost $1500+ per year. [link] [comments] |
Imeediate update - Insurance almost Doubled Initial Offer on Totalled Vehicle Posted: 04 Jun 2021 07:01 AM PDT Thanks to u/deadpotsociety for the tips on my post requesting negotiation advice, but I ended up not needing to negotiate at all. The first adjuster put a note on the file that I felt the valuation ($4,900) was too low yesterday, and a second one called back today offering almost $9,000, which I gratefully accepted. So a note to anyone, if the amount seems low based on the market definitely dispute it - they might raise it with literally no other added work. Also, just in case it wasn't 100% clear, I really was not trying to screw over my insurance company. I just want to be able to get a half decent car. ETA: for the record I do see that I mispelled "immediately" in the title. [link] [comments] |

Posted: 04 Jun 2021 10:49 PM PDT Hi.. I claimed my insurance once/year for the past 3 years to do minor repairs to my car.. So now, I have 3 at-fault accidents on my insurance record.. It wasn't like I hit another car or damaged someone else's property.. It was just me hitting curb or brushing sidewalk (Kinda happens with everyone).. I have a $250 collision deductible.. so I thought let me claim it from insurance since the body shops would always come up with an estimate over $1,000 everytime.. My insurance never raised my rates up until now…This time they declined to renew my policy.. I started shopping around for quotes and Progressive offered one which is over $300/mo.. This is over 3 times of what I pay today..I ran another quote with just my wife as the holder (not adding myself)… It came close to what I pay today.. My question is - Considering I don't add myself to her insurance, will insurance cover me if I (as driver) meet with an at-fault accident where someone's car or property is damaged? Hit a deer, claim rep is useless so far, app/website says totaled, what should I do? Posted: 04 Jun 2021 10:42 PM PDT No injuries Video/Pics Company is Progressive. State is WV/USA. Claim rep called me a few hours after I filed the claim and said they would call me back when they found a body shop. Said the damage from my pics didn't look too bad so they were going to wait and see before writing it off. I messaged the rep the next morning about how to go get my things from the car, rep didn't respond. I called tow company, tracked it down, got my stuff and waited. Today, after waiting all day, I open the app to get his number to call for an update, and the app says it's totaled, and they have their damage/repair estimate sheet. I call him, and first off, he just answers "hello", no professional greeting, odd, but whatever. Then he says he didn't get a notice about it and that sometimes they just put it as totaled while they do an evaluation and that it might get updated different soon. I think the dude is full of shit, but I don't even care really. Here's the real question: I got an excellent deal on my vehicle, and an excellent rate, right before the demand for said car started to increase. The damage estimate to write off the car, is $15100, and I owe $15600. Comparable vehicles w/ same features aren't even available in my area, but are priced at ~18-20k elsewhere. My questions are: Is my rep a moron? Is what he said about changing the total decision after the fact true? What should I expect if they value the car higher than it's worth, should I push for more, accept first offer? How does that usually work? When I go to remove final belongings (license plate, anything else I missed) can I take other shit like floor mats, or LED bulbs that I installed? [link] [comments] |
Posted: 04 Jun 2021 10:34 PM PDT Is it true COBRA coverage is retroactive to the coverage end date? Basically i quit my last job and have 2.5 weeks before I start a new one with health insurance. My understanding is cobra has a 60 day window to decide if I want to use it, and it is retroactive to the day my coverage ended. So, can I just not do anything in terms of getting cobra or short term insurance, and if I get hurt and need insurance then I elect cobra and it will cover my injury retroactively within that 60 day window? Does having your warranty voided qualify as a reason to not accept repaired electronics ? Posted: 04 Jun 2021 10:14 PM PDT I bought a lot of electrical items in the last few months. The warranty for these items is minimum 2 years. I had a kitchen fire and all these new items were exposed to soot. They have been cleaned but I've started experiencing some issues and I'm concerned because my warranty won't repair them so I'm stuck with a lemon. Could anyone with experience with this share some insight? Based in Kentucky, USA. [link] [comments] |

Purchasing a home in FL - issues with getting a HO policy Posted: 04 Jun 2021 05:38 PM PDT Hey all, I posted this over in /real estate but thought I'd ask here as well. We are supposed to be closing on a home on 6/18 in Florida. Everything was going seemingly well until today when the insurance agent I had shopping HO quotes for me called me to tell me the original quote he gave me wasn't going to work as they wouldn't issue the policy. Apparently there were four claims on the property, 3 for water damage on 2/2018, 3/2018, and 9/2018. None of these were listed on the sellers disclosure. When my agent reached out to the listing agent, they did provide all the information about the repairs, inspections and permits. However, the HO will not issue the policy based on the water damage claims. Is this going to be the case for the other HO companies in Florida and should I think about pulling this deal? I think premier insurance was the company that passed on the policy. I'm at a loss as I've never heard of this or dealt with this on my previous properties (all in WA state). Any advice is appreciated. Thanks! [link] [comments] |

Question: Do I have coverage between jobs? Posted: 04 Jun 2021 05:09 PM PDT I have 2.5 weeks between my old job and the new job I'm starting. I'm wondering if I need to do anything during those 2.5 weeks to continue keeping my health insurance? I'm going on a long car ride and want to be sure I'm protected. Thanks! I was rear-ended in a no fault state Posted: 04 Jun 2021 07:00 PM PDT I was stopped at a red-light and she rear-ended me going about 20 I'd guess. We pulled into a parking lot to see the damages I had a scratch on my license plate and the front of her car was smashed. She couldn't speak or understand English so she called her husband that could speak and understand some. We talked for a bit and I asked what they wanted to do and he asked if I was okay and if my car was and he said if I wanted to I could just go home. Knowing that if we report it in a nofault state it can get messy and the fact I didn't have any injuries besides a scratch I wished them a goodnight and left. Is there anything I should do? I'd rather not submit a police report or file a claim. I did get a picture of her drivers license her license plate and the damage to both cars which can clearly show it was rear-end. Posted: 04 Jun 2021 12:25 PM PDT Hello, I posted originally in r/legaladvice and someone thought the minds here might be able to offer me help. I have a faulty designed leach field for my septic system. The engineer knowingly told the contractor to proceed with installation and at a future date sent me an email agreeing to replace it, if after excavation the water table was at a certain level. It was at that level and he admitted it was in email. There's a lot more details to this story but I'm attempting to keep it shorter, for anyone interested you can find it under my username. Due to the engineer still refusing to replace my leach field I filed an OPRA request and found his insurance company, then filed a claim. I was communicating with the adjuster assigned to it frequently in the first few weeks, but then it dropped off. A few weeks ago I got ahold of her after multiple attempts over a period of a week and she informed me the engineer was no longer communicating with her and that was what slowed it down. Now I haven't been able to get ahold of her at all and I've been trying daily for 2 weeks. I did some research and it looks like in the state of NJ a third party property damage claim requires a response within 45 days. Today marks day 55. Finding where to report the agency to has proven difficult because they are out of state. Does anyone have advice on how to proceed? Thank you for reading [link] [comments] |
Fiancés insurance getting dropped due to my accident Posted: 04 Jun 2021 08:22 AM PDT A little background, I never take my boyfriends truck. Its massive and i hate driving it. Last winter we had friends over and i made dinner and i was parked in and his truck was behind mine. My mom was working late about two miles up the road and i was going to take her dinner. Sitting at a stop sign, i see a truck coming from my left. I let them pass and begin to make the turn, well there was another car behind the truck. She was a really old lady that was following him so closely i couldnt even see her headlights. Her car was scraped down the whole side, dented and there wasnt even the slightest dent to Fiancé's truck. My Fiancé just received a call from his agent that his policy is being cancelled in August due to my accident. Shes going to fight it on our behalf, but he's pretty mad at me. Not really sure what i can do, any advice? [link] [comments] |
Posted: 04 Jun 2021 04:28 PM PDT I have never not purchased GAP insurance on a new vehicle, however, I will be putting about 25% down. It scares me to think of not getting it but some research tells me it don't really need it. What are your thoughts? 2021 RAV4 XSE Hybrid on 60 month loan (will most likely pay in 48). I am in California, USA. I have State Farm auto and home insurance. [link] [comments] |
Business Liability Coverage $4m to $5m Posted: 04 Jun 2021 12:40 PM PDT Hey all, I'm working on an agreement with a large company for my small business in Oregon, USA. Our industry is manufacturing. The agreement requires a $5,000,000 general commercial liability policy. I currently have a $4m policy and an updated quote from my broker to move to $5m more than doubles my annual cost.
Edit: Broker clarified this -
Does this seem appropriate? Related, is this something to push back on the agreement with the company for undue cost? [link] [comments] |
NJ Travelers Pool Damage Claim Posted: 04 Jun 2021 04:19 PM PDT My brother bought a house with a pool in January. They did just visual inspection during the sale. It was winterized by a licensed pool contractor in October with no issues and my brother has paperwork and service records. The liner was replaced in 2005. When he just opened it up for the summer one of the walls sort of came off together with the liner. My brother has his house and property insured by Travelers (through GEICO). Travelers claims adjuster took his information, no inspection was done, and a month later his claim was declined due to "ground movement" not being covered. What steps should he take now? Should he hire independent insurance adjuster? And if yes, where does one look for an insurance adjuster? EDIT: photo of the pool https://imgur.com/a/uxL6bej [link] [comments] |
I (Canadian) need American health insurance Posted: 04 Jun 2021 11:56 AM PDT I have a life threatening medical condition that isn't treated/paid for in Canada. The surgeries in the US are $100,000-$300,000 and are 80% covered by certain healthcare providers. I have no way of getting citizenship and am wondering if I'm able to visit on a tourist visa in the US and apply for healthcare insurance as if I were a resident? I have a friend I can live with for free for as long as I need, but I need to find out if I could get actual health insurance when I'm down there [link] [comments] |
Posted: 04 Jun 2021 03:07 PM PDT So this is a two-part question: First, suppose a car is totaled by the insurance company and I find that car sometime later, maybe it's for sale, maybe it's in an auction. Is there any way to discover what insurance company someone used to insure a specific car when said company made the decision to total a car due to damage? Secondly, I ask this because it would help with full disclosure when purchasing a rebuilt car, would an insurance company ever divulge the information gathered in support of their decision to total a car? *Let me give you a little background - I went to buy a car (private party) and it was a nice car but right before I pulled the trigger I found out it was a "rebuilt" title in the neighboring state (New Jersey) before being sold to the seller. Now, I'm not buying the car, but this got me curious. In New Jersey, whenever an insurance company makes the decision to "total" a car, they usually convert it to a "salvage" title, meaning it was not economically viable for them to repair the car when compared to the car's value. In order to obtain the salvage title, the insurance company/junkyard/auction company must submit, inter alia, an "Insurance listing sheet (BA-28) and statement from insurance company as to how the vehicle was acquired. The insurance listing sheet must also include: actual cash value; type of loss; damage estimate; and year, make and serial number." So in order for any salvage title to be issued (under ordinary circumstances), the insurance company must provide some record of their evaluation of the circumstances surrounding the loss an estimated cost to repair. Is there any way possible that these would be obtainable from an insurance company by a private individual??? Anyone with experience know? (Also, just FYI, I submitted a Public Records request to the state Agency that handles salvage titles to see if I can get additional information that way, we'll see how that goes.) Posted: 04 Jun 2021 03:01 PM PDT ^ title. Planning to purchase a car and registering it under my name but because I still have a G1 license (learner's permit; won't get my G2 until August), the insurance company told me that I have to add a primary driver with a full G license. Family friend agreed to be the primary but she lives in a different address. The car will be sitting in a parking lot in my apartment building (will not be driven at all before getting my G2). Will be calling the company again on Monday, but if there's anyone who had the same issue before, I'd appreciate some insights. TIA! [link] [comments] |
