Minor accident, other driver is falsifying information to pin 100% liability on me.

    Posted: 06 Jun 2021 09:51 AM PDT

Edit: Thank you all for the advice. I have contact the local precinct and the officer that took the report will be calling me on Monday. I will ask for an amended report. I have also let my adjuster know.

    New York, USA.

There are two lanes, one to go straight and one to make a right turn. I was waiting to go straight and the other motorist was waiting to make a right. When the light turned green I proceeded to move forward and so did he. He made a wide right, which caused a collision.

I didn't really interact with him. He came out of his vehicle screaming "Why did you hit me?! How could you hit my car?" Etc. Just filed a police report and called it a day. Maybe $300 of damages to my vehicle, $1k+ for his.

In the report he states that he was waiting at a right red arrow and that I had a green, and that I was the one that side swiped him. I heard him lie to the officer but didn't say anything at the scene because I doubted that it'd do any good.

So at this intersection, there is no right red arrow. And it's also impossible for me to have a green light while he has a red. Because it doesn't exist. Very easy to prove. I have video and pictures of the traffic pattern.

So he is lying, and lied on the police report. Any suggestions on how I should move forward?

Insurance Not Paying For Medic Bills

    Posted: 06 Jun 2021 07:38 PM PDT

This is for my mom, what can be done about this?? So my mom was in a car accident a while back when a sales person from a car dealership pulled out in front of my mom causing injuries and totaling her car. She had to go to the hospital and get x-rays done, which obviously cost a lot of money. My mom had to pay out of pocket to get a car rental each week for the longest time, and had to repeatedly call them and pester them to reimburse her for the costs. I believe they eventually paid her for the car rentals. But they still have not paid her medical bills! Now, when she calls them, it says her number has been blocked, and when she tries to email them, it shows as undeliverable. On top of that, she got a letter in the mail saying because she hadn't paid her medical bills, a lien was placed on her home. She is beyond frustrated and so stressed out from all this. She's already been through a lot, and it wasn't even her fault, yet she's paying the price. Any advice on what she can do?

My name is not in the insurance, and got hit while i was in stop light

    Posted: 07 Jun 2021 12:07 AM PDT

Arizona While i was driving a family car, i got hit at the stop light that's a multiple car accident. The car behind me left after asking if i am okay. I was able to get the plate# and called 911. They located the person and gave me all info. I was asked if i wanted to press charges and i said no. I thought i was okay and was planning to fix the damage of the car out of pocket since it's minor. Unfortunately, i started to feel pain and just to safe reported to both insurance. While talking to friend, i was told that since i am not the owner of the car or i am not in the insurance, i wouldn't be able to get treatment. My question is that would the insurance of the other party would avoid responsiblity even though it's 100% the person fault? Also, did i cause a problem for the person who let me drive their car by reporting to insurance companies? If so would me not claiming or calming any treatment for the injury i got would increase their payment or create any problems?

Temporary car insurance UK for deceased relative

    Posted: 06 Jun 2021 01:45 PM PDT

Hi all, I hope this is the right place to post this.

A close relative of mine just died of Covid. I have to travel to England to make arrangements. During my stay, I will need to make use of my relative's car. The car will be essential, and I cannot afford a hire car for the duration I'll need to be there.

Can I legally use this car? It is now mine according to the will but this will take time to sort out. Relative died two days ago and I do not know when I will be able to arrange probate. Also unsure of who their insurer is, but I am hoping I can arrange my own insurance without this knowledge. Can I?

Any help or advice greatly appreciated.

Why did insurance send a check for repairs they already paid for?

    Posted: 06 Jun 2021 11:27 PM PDT

2 months ago my car's catalytic converter was stolen at school, it was fixed at an auto repair shop, and insurance paid all of it minus $100 deductible

    2998 total, AAA paid 2898 and I paid 100

Today my dad came back from the mailbox, and told me that they had sent a check for my car for about $2800. He told me to read it since his English is not very good, and it is in fact a check ready to be deposited, not a receipt or a summary.

He tried calling them to ask about it, but the lady that managed my claim is only available M-F so he will try again tomorrow.

So yes, this is surely a mistake right?

But yet again I have been injured. Can I file another personal injury claim even though I am currently in one? Thanks In advance!

What options would i have if i wanted to go into insurance.

    Posted: 06 Jun 2021 10:54 PM PDT

Claims really interests me. However, I'm not sure I'm physically fit for the job. Is it possible to find a claims job that's completely remote/work from home. With my disability i can't really drive long distances let alone climb up ladders and inspect properties.

what would be my options? I currently i have a finance degree in insurance/risk management. I have educational knowledge in claims process, the different coverages an insurance companies offers, risk analysis, and finally financial analysis.

How would you go about finding said job?

Should I appeal the adjuster's decision? -- Alberta, Canada

    Posted: 06 Jun 2021 10:18 PM PDT

I got into a minor accident parking lot accident. My vehicle was parked perpendicularly; I was leaving the lot to get to my brother's school. I was backing up and the other party was backing up in the straight road too. I stopped and noticed the other party was still reversing and then I honked at her. She kept going back and managed to hit my car.

Moreover, I got out to make sure nobody got hurt and everything was well. Fortunately, there was a witness who saw everything and she also told me that she yelled or waved at the other party to stop reversing.

The other party was very hesitant to go through insurance and she wanted me to settle in cash; I rejected their offer. In addition, she accepted the fault and blamed the sun glare as a cause of the accident. Later, the other party insisted on a claim through insurance and file a police report. I did go ahead to make a police report, but they refused to make a statement as there were no damages above 2000$.

After getting my claim assessed they deemed me to be at 50% at fault after having it reviewed by an insurance liability specialist. The adjuster's response: " It has been made that we would have to accept 50% liability. It was understood that you and the witness tried to warn the other driver, but we were still in their way and that doesn't change the fact that you had backed up; which was in the way of the other driver. With both drivers were backing up, even though you stopped you were in a backing up position and it would place us 50% at fault, but the other insurance company will only accept 50%."

Later, I got a quote from an autobody shop; my car repairs were above 1800 $. In the end, I have tried my best to avoid the accident and I believe that shouldn't have been at 50/50 fault. As a young driver and a student, this could affect my insurance premium to increase. Should I appeal the decision or settle with the claim?

    Thanks!

Advice needed: My car got dented in a parking lot, I know who did it

    Posted: 06 Jun 2021 04:08 PM PDT

I discovered a dent on my Tesla Model Y last week and reviewed the Sentry footage to find someone (I think a kid) opening their car door aggressively after their car parked and dented my car. The mom (I think) then checked to see if anyone was in my car, got in the driver seat, and drove away to move the car. I was able to get the license plate and called the police for advice. They told me it was a civil matter, but gave me the name and address for the car owner.

Through a Google search, I was able to get in touch with the owner's brother, who said the owner would call me back, but haven't heard from him since. I'd like to give them an opportunity to pay out of pocket, but will go through insurance if needed - I'm unclear if my insurance company can even find and hold the person responsible. Any advice on next steps? I'm considering knocking on the person's door, but that seems sketchy. They live in a nice house, so I'm not that concerned with my safety, but not my first choice. Any other ideas? I'm getting a quote this week. I'm in Washington state FYI. Thanks!

    Roof insurance claim question

    Posted: 06 Jun 2021 07:45 PM PDT

I am a newer homeowner. When I bought the house I had the roof inspected and after patching a couple of spots (which I paid for) I was told that the roof should last another 10 years roughly. Recently I have been getting quite a few roofing solicitors at my door. I allowed the first one on my roof to see what he would say. He found a lot of damage. Mainly shingles which were creased from wind damage exposing the underneath. This was the problem with at least 50 of the shingles (some had rusty nails underneath). Each solicitor has said that it is better for them to put in an insurance claim and get it replaced than to leave it. The one from today was saying that insurance companies were canceling policies because of old roofs. Does any of what they are saying sound correct? Should I go with one of the companies and let them file a claim? Or is this just them trying to sell me a roof?

    Manhole Cover Missing, who pays?

    Posted: 06 Jun 2021 06:46 PM PDT

I was driving home today when the police closed the road in front of me due to a missing manhole cover (it had popped out and was ~100 feet up the road).

I saw a string of suspension damaged cars on the side of the road. What happens with insurance? Are they at fault? This is seemingly beyond their control.

Can you shop for health insurance before you're elligible to purchase a plan? 26yo losing insurance on Jan 01. Big expenses coming up, want to be prepared.

    Posted: 06 Jun 2021 11:54 AM PDT

    26m - Michigan USA

Basically the title. I went to marketplace.gov and it seems like as I'm filling out the info that it wants me to be currently elligible and looking, but I'm not quite yet. I usually back out before submitting because idk if you are supposed to be shopping before you're elligible. I turned 26 in march and my mom's insurance covers me thru the end of the calendar year. However, I just discovered that I will likely need a second knee surgery for an ACL/meniscus 10 years after an injury, so I am trying to rush into that to get it done and covered before I lose her coverage and have to go it alone. I also want to be able to afford PT and get as much of my rehab/recovery covered before losing coverage as well. I also asked my pharmacist when picking up my meds today how much it would be without Insurance, and a 30 day supply of my meds is $280! (Currently $30 with insurance and a manufacturers coupon.)

My employer offers insurance which is pretty terrible TBH. it's a high deductible plan with a 6900 deductible and 140ish monthly premium. It comes with an HSA but that HSA maxed out covers about half of my deductible in a given year. Granted, my first year I might hit that deductible since I will need PT for who knows how long, but in an average year I would likely never hit the deductible. I'm not experiencing significantly disability from my knee and if not for the fact I'm losing coverage, I'd probably try wait and see approach. I can still run and lift and do most daily activities just fine. I feel like Physical Therapy and surgery recovery aside, I'd otherwise be better off without insurance than with my employers insurance because why pay for something prohibitively expensive if it doesn't actually reduce my normal healthcare costs? I can't afford to light $8600 on fire every year before my insurance does anything.

Do you think I'd be likely to find a better plan on the marketplace? Can you shop around before you are actually elligible? Does having the option for an employer sponsored plan and rejecting it effect what you can get on the marketplace?

Does insurance history help in the long term?

    Posted: 06 Jun 2021 03:14 PM PDT

I'm looking to buy my first insurance, e-bike insurance. E-bikes are usually not covered by renters insurance even for theft.

The premium for the first year is very high, more than 10% of the cost of my e-bike. But I think that's because I have no history with insurance and in California they can't use my credit score.

Think got me thinking, should I purchase the insurance from a company from which I can later buy insurance for a car, or a dedicated bike insurance company like Velosurance?

Or is it cheaper to get renters insurance from a company that covers e-bike thefts.

I will probably get insurance for a car or renter insurance eventually so maybe I can use the e-bike insurance to build history with the right company?

    Pet insurance recommendations?

    Posted: 06 Jun 2021 08:12 AM PDT

What pet insurance companies would you recommend for serious medical situations? Surgery, etc.?

I am looking for a company that generally does not give customers a hassle in terms of approving claims, because that could be really anxiety-inducing. Looking specifically for my 2 year old, healthy dog.

    New build, home policy

    Posted: 06 Jun 2021 09:22 AM PDT

I currently go through a broker for my insurance and Inquired about a new policy for our new home we are purchasing. The home is about to be finished and the purchase price is 269k. They asked what the sqft was for the home not including the basement. I stated 1200 but it's a split level home so it's not a true basement. They said thats fine. The next day I got a policy that was 196k for rebuild and 17k for other structures. This was way below purchase price and what I would consider rebuild for the current market. They sent me the sheet showing the details they considered and the rep entered 1200 sqft for livable space. I advised that this was incorrect because the total livable sqft is 2000. I'm still waiting to hear back but did they mess up or do they not consider split level different because the walls are mainly the foundation?

WHOLE LIFE insurance question :/ Should I keep all 3 policies? 1-2 policies? None? Are they worth keeping? Advice needed…

    Posted: 06 Jun 2021 12:45 PM PDT

31 yo male (engaged to 29 yo female). We are both healthy, combined income of 350k, and plan to have kids in a few years.

My dad had bought whole life insurance (3 policies) for me and has passed on the payments to me now. I am thankful but trying to decide if I should keep these policies, or just 1-2, or none and switch to term life when we have kids.

    Policy #1:

    • Policy start date: 2018
    • Base Plan Death Benefit: $100,000
    • Annual premium: $963.41
    • Net cash value: $108.16
    • 2021 Dividend: $5.05

    Policy #2:

    • Policy start date: 2014
    • Base Plan Death Benefit: $50,000
    • Annual premium: $457.57
    • Net cash value: $1384.89
    • 2021 Dividend: $7.75

    Policy #3:

    • Policy start date: 2013
    • Base Plan Death Benefit: $100,000
    • Annual premium: $943.43
    • Net cash value: $3534.53
    • 2021 Dividend: $23.38

I am thinking about dropping policy #1 (this is the most recent one) for sure but not sure if I should drop #2 and 3. Policy #2 has a death benefit of only $50,000…

If I drop the policies, I plan to return the cash value that I get back to my dad. And the money saved would go towards our student loans. Any advice?

Thank you in advance for your input

    I need help asap

    Posted: 06 Jun 2021 09:21 AM PDT

2 days ago I purchased a used car, I didn't have have insurance so the dealer I bought it from used his policy number on the car which I guess was supposed to last 30 days. Later on that same day I took it for a test drive along with the guy and my brother. We were on the way to buy new break pads, unfortunately I got into a accident.. I crashed into someone's bush everyone was okay but the home owners came out screaming "ARE YOU FUCKING SERIOUS" etc. The police were called and then questioned us I also have to say I'm 17 I don't have my permit or license but my brother does so he said that he was driving and basically took the blame for me. The cops called a tow truck just for them to not use him so he left and the car was taken out the property by us. We weren't given any tickets but the cops gave us a card so we can take to the station and see where it goes, if they want to take it to court. The guy is urging me right now to buy insurance because he gave the cops HIS policy number. We are going later to speak with the home owners about the situation with a contractor to see if we can work something out. I am so lost and don't know what to do I seriously need some advice. I don't really understand this situation what should I do?
