Legal Advice I bought a car from a person and they refuse to give me the car's title

Legal Advice I bought a car from a person and they refuse to give me the car's title

I bought a car from a person and they refuse to give me the car's title

    Posted: 30 Jun 2021 06:37 AM PDT

I bought a car from a lady and at the time she said that she would mail the title to me soon (this was my mistake for buying a car with no title, lesson learned). 2 weeks later it turns out that the car was her dad's and the title is under his name. I spoke with the dad and he threatened to get rid of/destroy the title if I kept calling him; he told me he is a business owner and has no time to mail me the title. It has been 4 months and I still haven't received it. Every time I talk with the lady, she tells me "don't worry I will speak with my dad and tell him to send you the title" but I really don't think he will ever send it, and now I'm worried about driving this car with no title. I tried going to the DMV, calling attorneys, etc and they all tell me they can't help me because i bought the car from the lady, and not the original owner (the dad). Now they both refuse to take my calls and I'm stuck with the car. What can I do?

Edit: I am located in Orlando, Florida. I forgot to add that.

I am 17 so hopefully I won't be passing away any time soon, but my family is very religious and would never even consider the option of not burying someone. I tried telling them that if something were to happen I want to be cremated, but they don't listen what do I do? is there anything I can do?

Neighbor's roofing supplies were stolen from my driveway. Neighbor wants my homeowner's insurance to pay out for it. Can I tell them to kick rocks? IL.

    Posted: 30 Jun 2021 02:02 PM PDT

Neighbor is trying to DIY home repairs including a roof and stuff. He had $6,000 of supplies delivered to his house in one fell swoop - only problem is, the delivery truck incorrectly assumed that my driveway is my neighbor's driveway (neighbor doesn't have one at all). So, the supplies were dropped off in front of MY garage. They sat there for 3 days while I bugged my neighbor to move them, then they were gone. I figured my neighbor moved them to the other side of his house or something - turns out they were actually stolen. There is horrendous quality security camera footage showing barely a glimpse of several trucks show up at my house load them up and drive away.

My neighbor apparently went to his insurance about this, and says his insurance won't help because it wasn't on his property. His insurance supposedly told him to come to me for my homeowner's insurance, since it was theft from my property.

These supplies didn't belong to me. They weren't supposed to be there, my neighbor was just lazy and slow in moving them.

Can I tell him to kick rocks? Do I have any actual obligation to him?

My mom stole 15,000$ from me

    Posted: 30 Jun 2021 09:01 AM PDT

I sold a truck for 25,000$ and was paid in cash. I then went to buy another truck for that same amount and put the money into my account to transfer to the dealership. Being that I'm 16 my mom has access to my account info and she logged in to check the amount, saw the money that was in there, then transferred 15,000 to herself. She told me it was because I owed her for miscellaneous things when at the most I would owe her would be 2,000$ for a cello that I paid 5,000 of the 7,000$. Is there anything I can do being that I am 16 and it's not against the law for my mom to take my money?

Car stolen from the dealership and completely totaled, mechanic admitted to leaving the keys in the car overnight [Massachusetts]

    Posted: 30 Jun 2021 09:46 AM PDT

Hello! I had an average 20-year old car that was in great shape for its age. I took it to my local dealership for a repair and gave my 2 sets of keys to the mechanic, as they requested. They left one of the sets of keys in the car overnight, and it was stolen and wrecked beyond any repair. The thief fled the scene and they haven't been caught yet. The next day, the mechanic admitted to leaving the keys in the car, in front of me and the police. They handed over the security footage, but I haven't heard if they have found any evidence. I now don't have a source of transport or means to get another car. I'm pretty sure I didn't sign anything waiving the dealership's liability in advance of the appointment—I checked the website and their online appointment scheduler and didn't see anything to that effect.

How do I proceed from here? I informed my insurance but haven't officially opened a claim. Is there a benefit to just working directly with the dealership and not involving my insurance? And what am I entitled to in terms of damages? The dealership and I have not talked since they admitted fault, so what do I do if they walk back on their initial position? I don't think the estimated value of the car was too much, but I should also be compensated for the time I've taken off to deal with this and making my commute super difficult.

    Thank you so much!

[MA] husband & I are house hunting - but I just found out he gave me an STD

    Posted: 29 Jun 2021 06:38 PM PDT

I had symptoms that I thought were a UTI but turns out they are caused by an STD. So my husband has been my only sexual partner for the last 12 years (we are 32 and 34 yo)

I haven't told him yet that I know this.

We sold our house and paid off all of our debt earlier this year. We have about 100k in the bank. We are living with my in laws while we house hunt. We also have two young children under 5 years old.

I make 110k per year and carry the benefits.

-can I legally leave with the kids and find somewhere else to stay?

    • how do we go about getting custody figured out in the immediate time?

    • do I have to rent until the divorce is final or can I purchase a house while that is still in process?

    • what happens to the money in our savings ? Do I have to split it with him?

Edit: guys thanks, I will talk to my doctor but honestly I find it hard to believe I suddenly got gonnorhea after 12 years... I have had STI testing with both of my pregnancies too.

I got a citation by mail for setting up camp and camping between 6pm-8am

    Posted: 30 Jun 2021 12:29 PM PDT

We we're at the beach early i had brought ice chest 2 chairs and a beach shade for the little one toys and a wagon so its easier for me to bring things back and forth.

By the time 5pm hit I started packing everything up I was done about 5:40pm or so that's when I notice a cruiser just strolling by behind me at the parking lot after finishing up everything was already packed up. the last thing I put away was the sun shade because it has to be twisted in some ways to fold up. I don't own a camping tent we just had regular beach stuff I was never approached just glared at

I have a time stamp on my Google maps saying I left the beach at 6:07 can I use that as evidence?

I just feel like having a sun shade to protect a kid from the sun is different from having a camping tent were there is privacy and that whole 6 to 8 thing I was already done packing everything before 6 we were just hanging out at that point in the truck then left for long ride home.

Also would I be able to request for the cruiser dash video as proof that I was already getting ready to leave then maybe show the shade being put away or shown in someways? I really need advice in fighting this.

Being "investigated" and have been removed from my position despite it not being policy, HR is being very vague. What are my options?

    Posted: 30 Jun 2021 09:12 AM PDT

Background info: I am teaching summer school in my home town in Illinois. I am a licensed teacher, but did not teach with the district during the regular school year due to only just moving back here in March. I did sub with them for the last two months of the school year across multiple schools. I previously taught two years in the district as a full time teacher prior to leaving to pursue graduate studies (I graduated in December and moved back here in March). I am the only male, nonwhite teacher at summer school. We work with elementary students. I apologize this is long

    • Last Wednesday, the 23rd, the summer school coordinator (who, it needs clarifying, is NOT a principal. She is working on her administrative license, but this is her first leadership position of any sort) approached me and told me that "others" have witnessed me putting my arm on a student's shoulder and that it's "too touchy-feely" and "toeing the line" of what is appropriate, and that she was concerned about the "frequency and duration" of this happening. I told her there was one instance the week prior where a student was sent to me from another room because he was upset and having trouble focusing. He and I took a walk down the hallway to cool off and I put my arm on his shoulder, nowhere else, while I was trying to comfort him, much in the same way a coach might with their athlete after a loss. We did one lap around the school (which is small) and I sent him back to class. She denied it was the student I named and tried to name a few others, none of whom I'd had any physical contact with. She repeated these names and insisted it was one of them and that, again, "others" were witnessing this and were "concerned about the frequency and duration". I pointed out, in a normal voice, that I felt we would not be having this conversation if I were a woman. She said "Um, I think we would" and then walked away

    • I immediately contacted HR and asked about the process for filing a complaint. The HR specialist I spoke with told me to write a detailed message and email it to her, which I did. She said she would forward it to the HR director. I spoke with one of my colleagues soon after, who was as dumbfounded as I was and pointed out how much the kids enjoy me and how some of our students need a healthy male role model. It is worth pointing out that I work with this woman and two others all day in the same classroom. As in, if something had happened, they would have seen it. In my email I made sure to mention that this is the first concern of any sort the supervisor has brought to me, and that I've never refused anything she has asked of me, nor have I neglected my duties

    • I received a call at 9 PM that same evening from the HR director, which I thought was strange. I thought it'd be a follow up to my email. She instead told me I wasn't allowed back to work the following day, Thursday the 24th, and that I had to meet with HR first thing Monday morning. Turns out that she hadn't seen my email yet and that, some time after I had emailed HR, the supervisor also contacted HR with "concerns" that they had to "investigate". She said it was "due process". I said I'd be there. Cue four days of confusion and frustration as to what the hell was going on

    • The meeting this past Monday, the 28th, was with the HR director and associate superintendent of HR. They told me it was nondisciplinary. They brought up the physical contact, and I told them what I had posted above: this student was sent to me because he was upset, I put my arm on his shoulder coach-style, we walked one lap in the hallway. I didn't seek out the kid on my own and I've never contacted him (or anyone from work, coworker or student) outside of school. This happened only once. The supervisor did not witness this, is working from someone else's account, and even denied it was the kid I named. I also pointed out that, in my time at the district as both a full-time teacher and as a sub for the last two months of this school year, I've never been accused of any sort of "inappropriate" contact (there is nothing in my file). I told them there are three other teachers in the classroom that I teach in and they are always there when I am, and they can attest to not having seen anything "inappropriate". They ignored this

    • I reiterated that I've never had an issue with my supervisor previously, that I've never refused any request she's made and that this is the first concern she's brought to my attention. I also told them I have no issue with her speaking to me about the matter - she's the supervisor and if someone brings something up, she has to look into it. My issue is with how she's handled it and now blown it out of proportion, and that, once again, I did not feel any of this happening if I was a woman. I mentioned that, later on that same day she spoke to me, I saw one of the female teachers holding a student's hand as they walked down the hall (and have seen this several times during summer school). I asked what the difference is. They ignored this. I also pointed out that my walk with the student had happened the week prior to the supervisor speaking to me, so clearly she didn't think it was urgent

    • I made sure not to disparage or bad mouth my supervisor. I told them I just want to go back to work and teach my students

    • HR associate super basically spent the whole meeting trying to exaggerate how serious the "allegation" was without actually specifying what I'd done beyond put my arm on a student's shoulder. Inappropriate physical contact is obviously anything aggressive, sexual, etc, according to a handbook I found on their website. He also kept trying to label me as "argumentative", despite the fact I spent the whole meeting speaking in a calm, respectful manner. I said, "Sir, I'm not arguing, I am advocating for myself". He also flat out told me I'm not allowed to disagree with my supervisor - I had said that I don't think this situation is anymore than my supervisor disliking that I didn't automatically agree with her, and he said "Well you know what happens when you disagree with your superior". He was getting really condescending towards the end of the meeting. He said a couple of times that it's not hard to get rid of me since this is just a temporary position. I feel if they genuinely thought I'd committed something terrible, they'd have fired me by now (I did not say this out loud, obviously)

    • Before the meeting ended, they said it was "nondisciplinary" and told me that this is a "very serious allegation" and they'd continue to investigate and that I wasn't allowed to go to work until they were done. I was paid for last Thursday, but am not being paid this week. They also conveniently told me at the end that my complaint didn't count because I didn't fill out a discrimination complaint form. I asked them why the HR specialist didn't tell me about this step when I emailed her or why the HR director herself didn't inform me the previous week when we spoke on the phone. They ignored this

    • When I got home I followed another reddit user's advice and emailed them a summary of the meeting. They suggested I write in a polite tone and to assume it might be read in court someday. I did so. They did not reply to my email

    • I received the form the next day and sent it in

    • They told me they'd get back to me on Tuesday the 29th (yesterday). This did not happen

    • I looked into their policies for removing someone from a position. My situation falls under "Administrative leave with pay"; the policy states that the district superintendent has to sign off on any suspension without pay. I emailed the HR director asking for clarification. She did not answer me and simply replied this morning saying "This is still being investigated"

I am honestly unsure what is going on, and can't help but feel this has been blown way out of proportion. I still believe this wouldn't be happening if I were female (nobody would have "reported" me to begin with). I've been speaking to a friend of mine who is also in education (though not in this city/district) and has some knowledge of education management/HR and his feeling is that the supervisor just has a bruised ego, and HR realizes there isn't much to fire me over and might just be trying to scare me. This doesn't explain why I'm being removed from the position without pay given it goes against their policy. I should point out that, after today, there will be only eight days of summer school left (it's Monday through Thursday, off this Monday for the 4th, ends on the 15th) - my friend wonders if they'll try to drag this out until the end to avoid paying me. I'm wondering if they're scrambling trying to find anything else to accuse me of so they can fire me, but I'm not sure if they can do that since, as far her "complaint" to HR is concerned, and the only thing they spoke about in the meeting, was my arm on the kid's shoulder. There has been nothing else in writing, and they've been vague about what the "serious allegation" is and refuse to explain anything about why I'm not being paid. It did also cross my mind that HR knows they can't fire me, the supervisor is insisting on not having me back, and they don't know what to do

I should mention that I will not be working for the district after this summer - this was the plan all along, as I'm moving in August to begin my PhD. I am depending on this income to help me move

What are my options here? Or at least, how should I handle this moving forward? What should I look out for/avoid? And finally, I'd appreciate if you guys took it easy on me - I know some on reddit can be brutally honest, and while I do want honesty, this has taken a massive mental toll on me. I know I've done nothing wrong, but it doesn't make it any easier to deal with

Edit: I also wonder if they were hoping I'd just quit

Edit II: I took u/darkdollmaker's advice and looked into who the Title IX coordinator is for the district. It's the same assistant superintendent who spent the whole meeting exaggerating how bad this all is and talking down to me. So probably wouldn't be taken seriously if I did submit anything, given how they've handled everything else

Edit III: I reached out to the union by phone and email last Thursday. They've ignored me, probably because I'm not a full-time teacher and therefore not a dues-paying member

    Is it cybersquatting?

    Posted: 30 Jun 2021 04:12 AM PDT

    NJ, USA

I'm helping a friend get information, so this isn't my business.

My friend has an established business (since the 80's) and has had a website for several years. He mistakenly failed to renew his domain name and it went to auction and was purchased by hugedomains.com. To buy it back, it would cost $10k. The domain only has utility to my friend, since it's his name, which is unique. From my own research, it's considered cybersquatting if the domain is a trademark of someone else's being used to profit in bad faith.

It's certainly being used in bad faith, but my question is about trademarking. Does my friend need to trademark his name before initiating arbitration with ICANN or a suit under the provisions of ACPA? I read we should first try to negotiate a deal with hugedomain.com, but I heard they increase their prices once they find out someone's interested. I'd like to know what the next step would be in case that happens.

Landlord Demanding Entry to do non-essential/non-emergency renovations

    Posted: 30 Jun 2021 06:35 AM PDT

    Hello all,

My partner and I are in a situation currently where our (new) landlords are trying to enter our apartment without our consent to do renovations that would impede us from removing a lot of our furniture.

The house we live in (which was turned in to a duplex) was recently sold and so far we have had relatively positive experiences with them, until we asked politely that they hold off on renovations until our lease ends November 1st.

Essentially, here is how the timeline has gone thus far:

    1. They mentioned putting an interior wall and door in our apartment because the landlord will be living downstairs, and does not want to walk around the back entrance for the first floor apartment/doesn't want to walk around to get her mail.
    2. We did not agree or disagree to this renovation (especially not in writing) but stated it made sense to do it that way.
    3. We contemplated this renovation for a while and made the realization that by doing so, and also by doing electrical work, we will not be able to get our furniture out of the space it leaves by adding in the wall/door, and with electric being shut off we would not be able to work (we both work from home, I don't have an office)
    4. We sent a very polite and professional email to said landlords demonstrating our concern about being able to remove our furniture in November when we moved out, as we have relatively large furniture that was expensive and by adding in the wall and door, we would not be able to fit anything down the only entry point we COULD get things in when moving in here November of 2020. We also of course expressed concern over the fact we would not be able to work since they would be doing construction right outside of BOTH of our offices for what would probably be a week/two weeks. (We would also have to board our cats with special medical needs)
    5. They have demanded right to entry regardless of circumstance, and have stated it is LEGALLY within their right to enter and renovate the property as they see fit, even with us living in the unit. They did state that they understand legally they have to give us a 24 hour notice (Kentucky State Law)
    6. Our lease is up in November, they agreed to hold off on construction of the apartment until October.. and told us to "move our stuff out prior to construction beginning", which I feel in itself is illegal? Our lease would still not be finished, and we would essentially be living without furniture for what could be the month of October.

So that is the gist of the situation. Landlords want to tear down and build a new wall/door inside of our unit, we politely asked them to wait until we are done with our lease or if we could end the lease early giving them freedom to complete construction (and when I mean early, I mean October 1st rather than November 1st.) They've agreed to hold off on construction a few months, but have made it abundantly clear that they have legal right to enter our home without our consent to do unnecessary and non-emergency renovations. There might be something I'm leaving out but I'm trying to summarize this as best I can, so if you have any questions please feel free to ask.

We are also in Kentucky, and have looked at KY state laws and it seems the law is on our side thankfully.

Edit: My partner made a good point, when they bought the house they did not do a comprehensive inspection of our unit, and we have a feeling they are going to try everything they can to keep our deposit. Is there anything we can do to fight for our deposit back?

I am pretty sure I just bought a stolen phone

    Posted: 30 Jun 2021 04:24 AM PDT

I think I just purchased a stolen phone. It came to me dead and locked, the person I bought it from keeps repeating that it is her phone and she has seizures and brain damage, so she forgot the password magically and all the accounts she could use to reset the passcode. I factory reset the phone and it was blocked with an activation code immediately. At what point and how should I contact authorities and get the phone back to its correct owner? I'm not happy about paying the piece of shit scammer for a stolen phone, but at least I can get the phone to the original owner maybe. I also wanted to know if I should tell police the seller, or just leave her alone. I live in Washington state, if that changes anything

I possess evidence in the form of texts that she sold it to me, and that she did not know the passcode, although she did provide many fake ones. I have the phone, which with the activation lock I assume must be stolen

[CA] Is it legal for my therapist to prevent me from replacing her?

    Posted: 29 Jun 2021 06:27 PM PDT

Hi everyone, I have been going to therapy for my mental health for about 6 years. I got a new therapist 3 weeks ago and met with her once. I will just be calling her LJ in this post. During that single appointment, I expressed I wanted PTSD therapy (on top) of just regular therapy. I missed our second appointment because of technical difficulties, and the day before our third appointment LJ suddenly cancelled all of our appointments and told me she would no longer be seeing me.

I asked LJ to at least continue seeing me until I could find someone else to replace her, and she reinstated our appointments, but then cancelled them once again the next day. The receptionist contacted me telling me LJ had asked to transfer me to another therapist. I agreed with that, because I now didn't have much trust in LJ after she had mysteriously dropped me as a patient twice. Today, I finally found a new therapist through the same practice and I have an appointment with him on Friday. About an hour ago, LJ contacted me and said she spoke to the medical director at their psychiatric association and convinced him to cancel my appointment with the new therapist.

She said she felt like I needed a "higher level of care" (even though she only seen me once three weeks ago), and that I could either choose to go to 1 of the 3 inpatient psychiatric hospitals she texted me, or continue to see her and only her as a therapist so she could monitor me until I went into inpatient.

For the record, I am in a group therapy for 3 hours a day 5 days a week. I had a safety evaluation just yesterday and they think I am fine. I never said anything to LJ that would be a cause of alarm for my safety, a all of the inpatient psychiatric hospitals she sent me are voluntary hospitals.

I have no intention on going to one of these hospitals and also no intention of meeting with her again after these bizarre and unprofessional stunts.

I would really like to see this therapist on Friday, but looking at my patient portal it appears to be indeed cancelled.

My question is if it is legal for her to be doing this? She is also a LMT, not a psychiatrist if that makes any difference.

TLDR: I am trying to switch therapists but my old one cancelled my appointments with my new therapist and demands I either continue to see her or hospitalize myself.

Kicking out a physically/verbally abusive roommate

    Posted: 30 Jun 2021 08:24 AM PDT

A close friend of the family (we'll call him John) has a man who has been living with him for about twenty years (we'll call him Max), and John needs to kick Max out.

John is in his late 70s, Max is in his mid 40s. Max is not right in the head. My family and I fear that John's life is in danger.

Max started off as a guy just crashing at John's place for a few weeks while looking for an apartment, but because John is a pushover and Max can be very manipulative, the situation has gotten wildly out of control. John rents an apartment in New York City, and owns a house in Long Island, usually spending the week in the apartment and the weekend in the house. Max bounces between the two as well, paying no rent or bills of any kind. Max has a job, but we are unsure where the money goes. John supports him financially in a lot of ways. Max drinks all the time and is both physically and verbally abusive towards John.

Last night Max was screaming at and hitting John, and today John has bruises on his face and a split lip. That same night John sent a brief email to a few close friends from which it was clear that he believed his life was in danger. This has happened many times. John never fights back.

John has tried to remove Max several times, though never with legal intervention. The most recent attempt was John asking to look at apartments with Max, John even offering to pay the first several months of rent, but Max refusing to acknowledge it completely.

I believe a huge part of why this has gotten so bad is because John is afraid of what Max may do if John kicks him out, fearing for his own safety and the safety of those he loves. Maybe Max would go so far as to burn down John's house, we don't know. Max has no familial connections, Max doesn't really have anything to lose.

What is the legal action required to kick out Max? (Maybe a restraining order? Do Squatter's Rights apply here? What rights does Max have in the matter, if any?)

Please ask me anything, I will try to answer as clearly, quickly, and with as much detail as possible.

TLDR: What is the legal action necessary to remove an abusive roommate of twenty years?

[MN] Cut off and brake checked while driving, dash cam caught it all, looking for more information.

    Posted: 30 Jun 2021 01:40 PM PDT

Today I was driving in the right lane of a 45 mph road with two lanes going either direction. I was going about the speed limit when I noticed a car tailgaiting me. We were not in heavy traffic, so I took my foot off the gas and began to slow down to encourage the driver to change lanes and pass me on the left (this is what I was taught to do in driving school, is this incorrect?) The driver began to pass me on the left but then cut me off and slammed on his brakes which almost caused me to hit him. Thankfully I did not, and he flipped me off and sped away, but I have a few questions.

    1. I caught this all on my dash cam, is brake checking illegal in Minnesota, and would I be able to report him for this?

    2. If I had hit him, would I be at fault, or could he be charged with reckless driving?

    3. If I had hit him, would him causing an accident be grounds for a lawsuit?

Keep in mind this is all in the context of me being cut off and brake checked. I always make sure to keep my distance and never tailgate other drivers, which is part of why this bothered me so much. I'm a very defensive driver and almost being in an accident was very upsetting. If, god forbid, this ever happens again, I want to know what my options are. Thanks in advance!

Employer wont let diabetic girlfriend keep juice in fridge to help regulate blood sugar

    Posted: 30 Jun 2021 02:54 PM PDT

So, my diabetic girlfriend works at Walmart in the deli section. Usually, she takes a gatorade to work with her for if she feels a blood sugar crash coming on. Her general manager recently said she cannot keep a drink in the deli area, but candy is fine. Now, im a manager at another company and this sounds like denial of a reasonable accommodation, which is a big no-no. Thing is, she does work around food, while i dont, so there may be something that keeps her from keeping a drink. It just strikes me as odd that her GM would be fine with candy [a food], but not fine with a drink [also a food]. I should note she isnt always in a situation where she cannot easily get to the employee break area, which is where she is also forced to keep her insulin in an unsecured locker, shared by another employee.

    Do we have something here?

Edit: we live in Arkansas, USA

Ex-roommate won’t pay Apartment Company for damages they did. Please help!

    Posted: 30 Jun 2021 05:56 AM PDT

Myself, my girlfriend, and her cousin all signed a 1 year lease with a rental company to rent a home. We live in Washington, USA. We split the rent 3 ways evenly, acting as 3 separate tenants. During the time we rented the home, the cousin purchased a dog (big dog) along with an assortment of other animals. My girlfriend and I did not want a big dog around but we put up with it anyways to be respectful. When we moved out of the home we were hit with a bill for close to $5000 in cleaning fees and repair fees.

The apartment company gave us a breakdown which indicated some administrative fees and general house/carpet cleaning fees. We believe these should be split evenly 3 ways as is only fair.

The major portion of the charges are for carpet that had to be replaced and a cracked window. The ledger explicitly states the carpet had to be removed due to pet urine stains and being torn up from a dog. It explicitly states those as being the cause of replacement. This total is upwards of $2200. There was also a crack in a window of the master bedroom which was the one used by the cousin. This was another $600. All of this damage was caused by either her or her dog.

Now she is refusing to pay, completely denying that her or her dog are at fault. That is simply not true as it is stated in the ledger what the cause for each charge is… My girlfriend and I have lost many nights of sleep over this as we don't want it going to collections or on a rental history.

What are our options? Should we be taking her to small claims court? She has been very hostile and will not work with us. I can provide pictures and more information if needed. Thanks in advance

I've looked up the answer but I can't find anything regarding age restrictions on buying it in Texas.

Electric Company Cut Down Trees [TN]

    Posted: 30 Jun 2021 03:31 PM PDT

    This is located in Tennessee.

Yesterday, I received a call from our power company requesting access to our land so they could perform maintenance on a telephone pole that was roughly 15 ft off of our property as well as the power line that runs through our property. Our neighbors are building a new house and the telephone pole is on their property. There were no trees surrounding the pole on their property.

I was told that they couldn't access the pole from any other property and they needed to access it through ours. At no point was the need to remove any trees mentioned.

When I returned home from work I saw that they had removed a large section of our treeline. This greatly impacts the privacy we previously enjoyed due to the treeline. After inspecting the damage, it does not appear they needed to use our property to access the pole. Our neighbor's property is clear of any trees and would be the easiest way to access the pole.

Many of the largest trees were right on the treeline. We will need to have a survey done to identify ownership of some of the trees.

I understand that power companies have the ability to trim back trees to prevent them from interfering with power lines, however they removed the trees entirely. There was no effort made to save any of them.

Do electric companies have this much liberty to remove trees to maintain powerlines or should we contact an arborist and a lawyer?

Patients on Parole with poor living conditions

    Posted: 30 Jun 2021 01:56 PM PDT

I'm a chiropractor in Texas, US. I have a couple patients with a couple issues. Both are on parole and are living in a halfway house I believe. Their house is infested with bed bugs and they have tried filing reports without much resolution. It is affecting their healing as they can't sleep.

They are also having a difficult time attending recommended diagnostic testing at other facilities due to their parole officer forcing them to reschedule appointments.

Is there any route as their doctor to elevate the situation and make their house situation resolve and for the parole officer to lighten up so they can get what they need? My patient is keeping a log of appointments and such and why they are getting rescheduled. TIA

Can I get scammed setting up direct deposit?

    Posted: 30 Jun 2021 01:37 PM PDT

I don't know if this is a correct place to ask but I'm posting to different reddits because I've been stressed all day. I am also aware I might have done something wrong but I really would like help as to whether 1) I'm safe & 2) Can I recover if something goes wrong?

Hey y'all! So I'm in Canada as an international student and have applied for jobs and got a hit on an admin/customer service job. It was going fine and dandy and today was the first day of my probational training. The person i was corresponding with said I shadow them and said my first task was to process a customers' payment... which coincidentally happened to be via Bitcoin, which raised a big flag. They said since the corporate account for me hasn't finished setting up, I must do it through my own bank. I said I'd rather wait till I get corporate accounts. So far they said okay lets wait for Friday when I get my company laptop as 'accounting department is super busy.'

My issue is I signed a job offer with them and gave them only my direct deposit details. It's only been my second job here and the first time was back in 2018 so i physically gave and handled direct deposit stuff. Now I am worried if sending my direct deposit details can screw me over? Can they take money out of my account? I only gave the 5 digit branch transit number & the 7 digit account number.

To note: All these conversations have happened via Telegram, when the employer first corresponded with me on email which we then moved to Telegram for.

[CA] Grandmother has obvious dementia and PCP wants her to be diagnosed by a neurologist. Mom has power of attorney. Grandma refusing to go to the doctor to get a formal diagnosis. What can we do?

    Posted: 30 Jun 2021 02:12 PM PDT

Should we/can we force her to go? She doesn't bathe or clean her home and has hallucinations and paranoid delusions.
