How do you manage the serendipity of sales? So many emotional ups and downs Posted: 18 Jun 2021 02:40 AM PDT Hey all, I'm working in IT/engineering services selling b2b. I'm a full cycle AE and have to generate my own leads and close. Recently I've been adding more and more opps to my pipeline, I'm also getting much better at qualifying and closing. So the range of behaviors I'm seeing is becoming more narrow as I exert more control over the sales process. However, one of the things I'm struggling with this the serendipity, unpredictable nature of prospects and the emotion I feel as a result. Here's two examples:
It's a real thrill - I love this job. I just need to figure out, how do I manage the emotion? One day I'll be disheartened that I lost a prospect I cared about, then 3 hours later I'll have a dead deal come back to life out of nowhere. I assume this is common across all of sales? I find the fluctuation in emotion is fine 95% of the time, then there's that 5% where I'm almost in disbelief at how much it comes down to the emotion of the buyer with these decisions. Two offers: Closing AE role at fintech startup or BDR SaaS role at big company: which to choose? Posted: 18 Jun 2021 09:59 AM PDT Hi everyone, I would appreciate if anyone could give me some advice. I recently received two job offers and am having a hard time choosing which to take. 1st job offer: Fintech company that started in 2014, base pay 50k with OTE of 25k and 7k expected bonus. I would be in a closing AE role. Expected to go into office 5 days a week (no remote). Team of 20 people at the location I'll be at. I feel that my work-life balance here wouldn't be great given the bigger responsibility but being in a closing role with potential to earn more is very exciting to me. 2nd job offer: Huge company that rhymes with coracle: base pay also 50k with 2k sign on bonus, OTE 25k. This would be a BDR role so I would only be doing lead gen and not get to close like the other role. Fully remote through the end of the year. They have an amazing sales training program and are a well-known company so it'd be amazing for my resume and experience. I would expect work-life balance to be better, but potential for promotion might be small. I had great conversations with both companies and if it wasn't for the other offer, I would have gladly taken any of them. For you folks that have been in sales longer, which company do you think would be the best to jumpstart my career with? [link] [comments] |
Posted: 18 Jun 2021 06:25 AM PDT Got into SaaS and worked my way up from SDR to mid-market AE and the grind just doesn't feel sustainable mentally forever. Throughout my journey of SDR, BDR and AE the favorite part of my roles has always been building, implementing and improving process where I can. This led me to doing a bunch of HubSpot and Salesforce trainings in my spare time to help understand the back end of the platforms we use. I've talked to leadership at my company about different career paths I can go and they all tell me the same thing : You're more valuable as an AE on the front lines and we want you to keep doing what you're doing and eventually take over an AE team. Have any of you made the transition from sales to ops and if so, how has your experience been? I feel like it would align a ton more with what I'm passionate about career wise but obviously with that comes a huge pay cut (likely over 50%) going from MM AE to a Sales Ops Analyst or similar role too… [link] [comments] |
Are “thank you” emails necessary after interviews in 2021? Posted: 17 Jun 2021 07:40 PM PDT Does it actually affect the hiring managers decision? Do they read them at all? Does it disqualify you if you don't send one? I'm interviewing with many SAAS companies currently. Previously I always sent thank you emails. But now I have sent exactly zero, and have gotten very far in the interview process for multiple large companies. What's the opinion on thank you emails? Especially if you're a hiring manager on here. [link] [comments] |
Establishing clear NEXT STEPS in sales? Posted: 18 Jun 2021 02:47 AM PDT I know having clear next steps is important. How do you guys successfully lead the prospect to the next step? What has worked well for you? [link] [comments] |
Anyone familiar with a company called Revolut? Worth an opportunity? (Fintech) Posted: 18 Jun 2021 12:57 PM PDT Appears to be an SDR/AE hybrid role B2B sales, $45k base with $65k OTE uncapped. It's a UK company that is expanding to the US in the financial services market. Here's: their website. https://www.revolut.com/en-US I'm not sure what to make of it or the product. Currently interviewing atm. [link] [comments] |
Was promoted to sales manager recently Posted: 17 Jun 2021 11:21 PM PDT Been at this job for a little over a year. The previous manager went into politics & based on my experience & attitude I was the next runner up. Fun part is I get to sell too so it's closer to a training position while dealing with my own pipeline. $65k salary + comissions. Currently I get a small percentage of other reps sales and a sliding percentage based on my own sales. Currently the highest comission is 30% for $70k+ sold. When I was grinding out 12 hour days + weekends I was around $65k in sales, so I have high expectations I can push for $70k We're a marketing company that deals in coaching & mentorship programs in the Janitorial industry. The company is wild & unpredictable sometimes but the money has always been there. Just had to share some success. Went from making $40k annually in retail to well over six figures in a couple years. Going to ride this wave as far as I can & I wish you the same luck! [link] [comments] |
Posted: 18 Jun 2021 02:56 AM PDT How to realign peoples expectations in the prosperty market. Most clients come in expecting things that are way out of their budget. How do I realign their expectations to settle for something less than originally expected [link] [comments] |

5 Goals that are not just focused on Quota. What do you guys think? Posted: 18 Jun 2021 07:49 AM PDT I co-authored this blog. Do give it a read and let me know if goals like these make more sense. As a rep, I feel it would be apt for me to have more process-focused rather than revenue breathing down my neck all the time. https://www.everstage.com/sales-organization/5-unconventional-sales-goals-for-long-term-focus [link] [comments] |
Posted: 18 Jun 2021 07:23 AM PDT I am looking for an installer in Florida mainly, other states that's a bonus, that can average 3-5 weeks install time with a reasonable redline and track record. Does anyone want to help? [link] [comments] |
We created a lead follow up platform. Posted: 18 Jun 2021 07:03 AM PDT I'm a realtor and it's common knowledge that a lot of realtors don't like to make phone calls or outbound prospect, which is totally crazy to me. But this is the truth. So and me and two realtor friends built an automated lead follow up platform for agents and mortgage lenders. It has prebuilt campaigns with ringless voicemail recorded by the user, text and emails for instant lead engagement and long-term nurture. You can use the prebuilt templates or create a campaign of your own and then simply upload a CSV file and broadcast a campaign or seamlessly and instantly integrate through Zappier or email parsing with any new leads come in to your website or web forms. It works particularly well with Facebook leads. We're thinking this could also help other sales people besides real estate agents. Thoughts? [link] [comments] |
Has anyone sent out a care package as part of your prospecting campaign? Posted: 18 Jun 2021 06:26 AM PDT What was in it? What note did you leave? What step in your prospecting campaign do you send the packages and how effective was it? [link] [comments] |
Let's talk drip campaigns KPIs ! Posted: 18 Jun 2021 06:19 AM PDT Hello my fellow SDR/BDRs ! I'm curious about how well you're B2B outbound email campaigns go, I get on average 30-50% open rate and only 1 to 2% of positive replies and my emails are heavily personalised (name, company, job title, market intelligence insight specific to the leads company). What about you guys how do your emails perform? I'm asking this beccause recently I see a lot of influencer content online claiming to get insane open rates (70-90%) and 20-50% reply rates and this just seems fake to me but I might be wrong. Posted: 17 Jun 2021 06:22 PM PDT I have an interview with a payroll company doing small business sales. I'll be meeting with 6 team members, 30 minutes (roughly) 2 team members a time block. I've never had an interview like this, whats the best way to go about doing it? I was also thinking about asking to the last two reps, " i would really love to work here and I know that I have the drive to step in and do really well. What do I need to do to get this role?" would this be appropriate? I imagine they'll all be talking to each other about me afterwards. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 17 Jun 2021 11:21 PM PDT Starting a new job on Tuesday and never sold pest control before but really liked the family owned business. I am nervous and excited, any words of advice? Pray for me, it is 118 degrees right now! [link] [comments] |
Merch by Amazon BANNING applicants for LIFE... then marketing their Saas tools.. Posted: 18 Jun 2021 09:03 AM PDT Selling merchandise or E-merch is getting more and more common these days... so I applied for Merch by amazon! Little did I know they would BAN ME FOR LIFE for some undisclosed reason. This actually happens quite often believe it or not. And they decided to THEN send me tools that I couldn't use and wanted to set up a sales pitch. Dangle the carrot why dontcha. I was so peeved I made a video about it: [link] [comments] |
Posted: 17 Jun 2021 07:59 PM PDT Hey folks! I joined r/sales about a year ago and have been lurking and learning ever since. I'm hoping to get some career advice/direction out of this post. Some backgound: I'm 44 and have worked as an Occupational Therapy Assistant the last 9 years. Previous to that I worked for Dell in small business sales for just short of a year and in route sales for a local wholesaler way back from 2002 to 2006 helping to grow Red Bull in our market shortly after it first entered. Other jobs I've worked have been in beverage delivery, retail, TV camera Operator, sprint tech support and customer service and as a medical paraprofessional in a group home for developmentally disabled adults. I've held a couple of management roles (not in sales). And I've got a Bachelor's in Filmmaking. In my sales positions I did pretty well I was typically able to make my commission, but I never really applied myself and I tended to get to emotionally involved in the sale. Getting pissed at my customers when they didn't buy :D. After 9 years plus 2yrs in school I am burned out on occupational therapy and unfortunately have seen my annual take home salary decline every year for various reasons. I am ready for a change and considering getting back into a, hopefully "higher level" sales position eg med device, SaaS, dental etc, to increase my pay without having to go back to College (again). I've applied for various medical device sales, hospice sales and home health sales positions with only a couple of interviews that didn't go anywhere. I have a friend who is my age and come to a similar crossroads. His background is in running his own fitness training business and a family business shotgun range. He, in the last year, finished his MBA and is now a sales manager in SaaS after going to a SaaS training program where they guarantee job placement and "only make you pay for it if you make 60k+ for a year." His advice when I asked about the MBA was to skip the MBA and do the SaaS program he did (Prehired). He felt like the MBA was more for the credential than anything else. I have toddler age children and I'm the primary caregiver and because of that, job flexibility is important too. So my questions for you sales veterans, sales and hiring managers are: What, given my experiences and background, industries should I be targeting? What can I do to up my sales IQ, training wise? Are those types of courses helpful? How do managers see "old" sales experience especially those b2b roles I held, when hiring for those more relational and big ticket sales roles? If you've started or returned to sales mid career how did you get there? I know I've got a lot to learn about the contemporary sales environment with Salesforce and linkedin (that's still a a thing right? :p) and all, but I think I'm up for the challenge. Thanks for any and all input in advance! [link] [comments] |

Seriously need some advice from you guys regarding a job change and offers. Posted: 17 Jun 2021 09:58 PM PDT Have SDR offer with a slightly fancier title (inside sales manager) for a 40 employee cloud spend management saas company (60 base 80 ote). I will probably get some other SaaS offers that are also remote WFH with around 85k ish OTE (70k base). Here is the problem. I have gathered interest from a CEO in the bay area with proptech saas. He wants to move me out there and take me under his wing (go on flights with him for investor meetings, have a lot of responsibility, etc). I expect he'll offer me 95k+ OTE (+ relocation)- he said he'll guarantee i hit OTE just if i hit metrics in terms of emails/calls because his product is new and he said he believes if I don't get demos it'd be his fault. He's very open minded and on the younger side for a ceo (30). They have an investor who had sold his company for 1bil+ and is an advisor. The issues: No WFH, Bay Area rent, Less than 20 employees, going to lose an awesome rent controlled apartment in seattle. The pros: Great CEO, will help me in my ambitions to becoming an entrepreneur, will get me great connections (His company has an investor who exited for 1b+) and much more people in the bay. Also equity in company (.1% but negotiable and will increase with time). I hate Seattle weather, and have always wanted to try living in california (have been in LA area and liked it much more than seattle - but i know bay is diff). Other things to consider, he said he wants to let me try flying out for 1 month with an apartment he'll pay for to see if I still like the job, and if not there would be no hard feelings if I wanted to go back home, but again going to lose an awesome 1600$/mo rent controlled apartment that is worth 3k/mo. Both companies I'd be first sales hire, fast track AE.. My experience: 7 months SDR experienc. [link] [comments] |
